@@drexlspivey5828 Neither DM nor Erasure were techno bands. DM was still synthpop whether or not Clake left! You could say early synthpop in general had a different sound, look at early OMD and Alphaville. Later eighties synthpop sound evolved into what you hear with New Order and Pet Shop Boys as well as DM and Erasure. Techno music at the time was a whole other genre which came into existence during the late eighties and nineties, mostly. And if you don't believe me, listen to Vince in this interview saying this is the first time he's delving into techno which has a very distinct sound from other synth music.

Yeah, that's it! Martin had forgotten, Vince was too introverted and brooding back then to ever bring it up, and Martin was too introverted and brooding to ever ask what was wrong. It wasn't about the five quid, per se, though, it was about the whole principle of the thing. Vince couldn't stand it anymore and left. Now that he's older and, dare I say it?, wiser, he simply asked for his money back. Things could have been so different! ;)

Never really watched these types of things before but as a lifelong fan of both musicians it is really heartwarming to hear two lovely funny guys in conversation. Bit lonely at the moment as abroad for a few months and this video felt like being with two mates for twenty minutes. Thank you!!

Alan Wilder's audition became awkward when the band asked him to remove his shoes and socks. They had to be sure of one thing. To this day, he has no idea why they did that.
I have a Dream…. Martin, Alan, Vince and Dave together…. This would sound unbelivable. a whole album. What ever it costs. No Timeline, no Projectmanagement… only Fun. Its not to late. I never knew about this record before yesterday, and I listened through it last night. Its the best Techno record I have ever heard. Definitely playing a tune of it next time I DJ.

Vince is a cool guy. But for me Depeche Mode started for real when Alan Wilder joined. Depeche Mode would have sounded like Erasure if he stayed. No Stripped, Never Let Me Down Again and no Enjoy The Silence. That thought horrifies me!

Andrew Fletcher is essential to be seen when the song 'Something to Do' gets played But for real Fletcher is still a important part of the band, I don't see how the band could've lasted as long as they did if he would've left instead of Wilder.

Without Vince ever leaving Depeche Mode we would have never known Alan Wilder or his talent ( Alan leaving DM just left a weird void and they lost a huge largely ignored talent that most didn't appreciate until he was gone ). Depeche Modes music and sound was changed as Martin Gore started writing . If you listen to Depeche Mode with Vince and sans him you notice just how much the music changed . I think they were better without him as far as their sound went even though some of their best songs were with him . BUT I have always loved Vince . I aways knew how vital he was to Erasure ( synth -pop still but they were great in their own right ) and am glad he felt comfortable in Erasure as he left Depeche Mode because he was uncomfortable with their massive growing fame . The man was part of two groups that were so important to the 80's and were the soundtrack to all our parties , dances, hanging out in our bedrooms , just driving and so much more . +marci mars Yeah, they lasted from late-81 to mid-83 - big in parts of Europe, massive in the UK, and a cult following here in Canada and the U.S. I kept wondering if Vince had lost his mind, leaving two incredibly successful bands just as they were achieving superstardom, but he's proved so incredibly versatile he's been able to mesh successfully with a virtual plethora of other talented musicians.
TheGodParticle very different genre but the one band that comes to mind that also had several good writers was The Clash . As i got older i noticed the songs were all written by different members and sang by different members . Ever Topper Headon and it is great. But Vince being in Depeche Mode was unique because they sounded so different with him .
I believe both Alan and Vince made new remixes of Depeche Mode tracks for a huge greatest hits package somewhere in 2011, so they did stay in each others orbit over time.

I aways knew how vital he was to Erasure ( synth -pop still but they were great in their own right ) and am glad he felt comfortable in Erasure as he left Depeche Mode because he was uncomfortable with their massive growing fame . The man was part of two groups that were so important to the 80's and were the soundtrack to all our parties , dances, hanging out in our bedrooms , just driving and so much more . He is funny as heck and it was great watching this . Vince and Martin are both total treasures . Thanks for posting this .

+marci mars Yeah, they lasted from late-81 to mid-83 - big in parts of Europe, massive in the UK, and a cult following here in Canada and the U.S. I kept wondering if Vince had lost his mind, leaving two incredibly successful bands just as they were achieving superstardom, but he's proved so incredibly versatile he's been able to mesh successfully with a virtual plethora of other talented musicians.
I still can't get over the fact that there was 2 genius song writers in the same band in the first place.
TheGodParticle very different genre but the one band that comes to mind that also had several good writers was The Clash . As i got older i noticed the songs were all written by different members and sang by different members . Ever Topper Headon and it is great. But Vince being in Depeche Mode was unique because they sounded so different with him .

Anybody actually know that he started Depeche Mode, Yaz, was in Erasure, and is still currently touring. I am going to go see him tonight.
I believe both Alan and Vince made new remixes of Depeche Mode tracks for a huge greatest hits package somewhere in 2011, so they did stay in each others orbit over time.
