    Let me get this straight; You ride around in only Turbo mode and are disappointed in the range, yet if you had it to do all over again you'd get an SL?

    • @LivingInTheBayAreaToday
      @LivingInTheBayAreaToday 6 месяцев назад

      THEORETICALLY, yes if I can have 2 or 3 extra batteries. NOT extenders. The extenders defeats the purpose of having an SL. So technically that won't be a Heckler SL. The Relay would the choice. THEORETICALLY.

    I have both the Heckler 9 and Heckler SL. Both INCREDIBLE bikes. Heckler 9 has been problem free, but the SL had to have a new updated motor. If I were going to start over, I would still buy the same bikes. No regrets

      I struggled deciding but ultimately went with the r and built up the rest with parts from previous bikes. I also bought the new SRAM XO transmission for the SL. These two bikes are along with my analog Tallboy are so much different from each other. One does not replace the other. Before I owned the SL I thought I would sell the Heckler full power, but ended up keeping it after all. I love that bike too much! That red heckler you own is killer. Such a great platform. I purchased 2023 Heckler cc MX AXS RSV from Mike’s also. Got a really good deal 42% off so it was $7999. Only issue I had was it not turning on after my 3rd ride. Called SC and took it to local BS. Turns out to be just a firmware update that was required. Haven’t had any issue since. I’ve also been riding in wet PNW conditions and have washed it after every ride. No issues. My batter also fits flush w frame and no movement. Maybe your batter latch wasn’t torqued correctly? Coming off Yeti SB150, the heckler feels right at home w me. Love it and looks sick w the Avacado green color!

      Was it a 2022 or 2023? There was a top of the line model that they were selling for that price but it was the 2022. I wanted the EP801 motor. I havent had any issues lately. It's been raining a lot here in NorCal and I've washed it a couple of times. I have been super careful around the motor. I literally wrap plastic and then cloth around the motor before I start washing it. I know its overkill but I'm just paranoid.
      As for the battery They tightened it and its flush again. However when riding I have the strap on around the battery just because I don't want to have to go back to the bike shop and have them adjust it again.
      I did notice a new thing. 🤯🤯🤯. Around where I had my strap the paint fishing was peeling. It almost seemed liked its because of my strap which is weird because the strap doesn't move.
      I love how it rides but its the fit and finish that is leaving me scratching my head.

    I'm hearing this alot when the bike is new you will get an error code also Does your battery have its own power button aswell as being able to turn it on from the controller? I've seen a couple of people do this with bosch battery if it doesn't turn back on from controller press the power button on battery and it fires straight up it must be a safety thing, I'm guessing shimano would have some power backup on the battery itself?

    • @LivingInTheBayAreaToday
      @LivingInTheBayAreaToday 6 месяцев назад +1

      No separate power button. The more I join different bike forums, the more I hear about problems about ebikes. One reason I went with a Shimano system was I thought it was going to be issue free. I was really thinking about a Levo but read so many horror stories about the Brose motor. I also looked into the new SRAM powertrain (also Brose) but thought that being the first gen it could also have issues.

    If you are not happy on the Heckler CS 9, you likely won't be happy on any full powered eMTB. You're also comparing apples to oranges wrt the Heckler CS 9 and an SL. I have a 2024 Heckler MX and it's a great bike! That said, I haven't had any issues with the battery release and I've never had any issues with the bike not starting even after riding in wet conditions. If you have expectations of riding an SL in Turbo mode for an extended amount of time, you'll also be disappointed. I'd also say that replacing the Fox 38 with a Zeb isn't necessary due to the fork being a Fox branded product and the shock being a Rockshox branded product. They work well together. I'm puzzled by both your expectations and review. I question whether you will ever be satisfied but wish you well in your journey.

    • @LivingInTheBayAreaToday
      @LivingInTheBayAreaToday 6 месяцев назад

      Steve you are not way off. Like I have said it was an expectation issue and then when you add some of the problems that I have encountered that made the whole experience a little bit on the downside. Like I said at the end. The bike rides well.😁
      As for the SL, I know I'll also be disappointed with the battery. The one thing that sticks with me when I was trying the SL was how it really felt like just like my Ripmo in terms of weight. I rode it without the power and it just seems like a regular bike.
      As for the ZEB that's just a preference thing. I was actually going to take the Fox factory fork and shock from my Ripmo and move it to the Heckler but a lot more work. Since the shop had a $600 card promo plus gave me a discount on a new one, I figured why not 🤣.
      I wish I could ride the damm thing. It's been raining like crazy and havent ridden in 2 weeks. Hopefully for the next week there will be no rain, so I can start riding Sriracha( I named her) again. 🤣
      Thanks for watching.

    Going from an ibis Ripmo to a 50 pound E-bike is very different. I did the same thing purchasing a full powered specialized levo. The bike is so heavy and capable. It doesn’t take that much skill to ride very technical steep trails. I was also using it almost exclusively in Eco mode, so I definitely didn’t need all the battery power. Most of my rides are under three hours, but I was able to ride the Levo from well over four hours, and still have battery power left. I ended up selling it after six months and buying a levo SL, which feels much closer to my regular bike. The new crop of lighter weight E bikes are getting very good like the Santa Cruz heckler SL and levo SL version 2. I put the scram code RSC brakes on my Levo SL and it made a huge difference.

    • @LivingInTheBayAreaToday
      @LivingInTheBayAreaToday 5 месяцев назад

      Wow really? The Levo SL only has 350 battery correct? You good with that? I've been playing around with the battery profile or power levels and found out that there was a profile 2 which had 7 levels instead of just Eco-Trail-Boost. Now most of my rides I am on power level 3 of 7 and it works perfectly fine. A 2 mile climb with 700 feet of climbing on full boost takes me 10 minutes. On level 3 of 7 It takes me 14 minutes. Still much faster that the 30 minutes on my Ripmo.

    Interesting watch. Just picked up a used SC bullit for my local SC dealer. the bike is an absolute weapon and im having the most fun on it. But feel the range is a little down on where it should be and where im told it should be. Im lucky to have a great sc dealer and we have tested a 2nd battery in the bike with worse range than mine!!! But they are looking into it all for me so fingers crossed. I always think ebike videos shy away from the actual reality of owning and using ebikes, and coming from a normal bike to one of these is a big learning curve. You have to brake different and use the trails differently too...up and down! This would be the same story on any brand of ebike. I think in the long run if you own this bike for a while you will appreciate the build quality of the SC carbon and engineering that goes into their pivots. If you ride 2600ft uphill in 13 miles, you could ride another 13 miles downhill and it would use very little additional battery power. That means it is capable of a 26mile 2600ft ride, not too bad at all. Seems like you had high expectations for typical e-bike range in turbo mode. I have a Specialized Kenevo with 700wh, and I am 300lbs, I can just barely make it through 2 Fullerton Loops in turbo mode, which is a total of 22 miles and 2200ft of climbing. Those little paint chips are going to happen, get some touch-up paint and just ride it! I have had a scratch or chip on my top tube within the first month on every e-bike I have had, and I am very careful with my bikes, it just happens. It's usually my friends fault, while loading or unloading especially, so I don't let anyone handle my bikes anymore LOL The more work you do yourself, the less likely it is to get damaged at a bike shop, so invest in tools rather than paying for someone else's labor. They will never treat your bike like you would yourself. Also, these bikes are assembled as fast as possible at the bike shop, usually by someone making minimum wage, so I would EXPECT it to need immediate maintenance, and a 100% bolt torque check. Bleeding brakes is easy, a $25 Amazon kit makes it a breeze. Every singe bike I have bought was built no where near my personal level of attention to detail. Get a little 1/4" drive digital torque wrench, a good quality allen and torx set, and do everything yourself, all the tools you need costs less than one trip to the bike shop, and it gets done at your home, on your schedule. Just my .02.

I do agree with you that someone else (especially bike shops) handling your bike won't be as "gentle" a you handling your own bike 🥲. I have a love hate relationship with bleeding brakes. Sometimes I get it done really good but then there's the occasional crappy job 😜. That 22 miles & 2200 ft of climbing seems much better than mine. Battery doesn't remove because the seal is bent without a screw driver, rear hub failed in a week so it never got repaired as an online order, Front forks were shit sun tour ones as well tuning the ride and no tubeless as stock, I didn't wing and whine about it I bought a Fortus 30 pro 5 rear wheel and turned it into tubeless (front and rear) upgraded the front fork to a Fox 34 Performance, upgraded the pedals too V12 mags and used silicone spray on the battery rubber seals so it removes easier.. It's like a different bike.. you'll never buy a bike off the rack and be happy because it won't have the parts you want.. coming from a 2001 Kona stuff with all Chris King stuff on it I know... All E bikes have issues you just have to accept it's tech that will need replacing just spend money on the suspension and wheels and buy the base model then when it's time to upgrade you service the good items and move across tbh.. Battery is overlooked on Bikes and Giant has the best as its Cobalt based so they last much much longer.. Atleast Specialized sells frame only options even though its only the S works version. I actually almost pulled the trigger on one but it was going to come out more expensive for what I budgeted.

    You are one of the bad guys why internal routing and integration got popular. It is a fricking nightmare if you have to work on cable management, install new brakes, changing batteries etc. Who cares how a bike look, you can't see it while riding.

      I'll take that as a complement. I guess 😜. I do visualize myself riding so in my mind I can see myself 🤣.

    I will not accept a bike when batteries cannot be locked in properly. Also when you have codes on a new bike there is a contact issue and shud be returned. You took delivery of a defective bike and made a deal with the devil.....get rid of it and get something else.

      🤯🤯🤯🤯 Holy crap. That's a little bit over the top don't you think? It never occurred to me that I took delivery of a defective bike. Have you had experience like this before?

    Well you’re gonna have to stick with it because you won’t re-sell it for anything but a huge loss.😂

      Oh yeah most definitely. I did think about it for a hot minute 🤣. But the loss would be too much. It is fun.

    Transition Relay over a Santa Cruz....no way. SC makes way better bikes

      Transition was actually one that I really considered. However they weren't selling extra batteries (not an extender) and I kind of knew that I would be needing another battery for how I use it when by myself.

    As a bike mechanic, next to department store bikes, Santa Cruz bikes are the worst to work on. Build quality is poor, linkages, swing arm mounts and pivots never line up properly, and they do not age well. I would rate them as low quality.
