    wait if your bike pushes you farther than your legs let you go, wouldn't the same post-rest bit of extra stamina apply to ebikes just the same? you're up on the mountain and catch yourself being weak on the descent, stop at a nice spot for fifteen minutes, do the rest of the descent with a bit fresher legs. also gaining weight isn't always bad, although 15 pounds may be a bit much depending on whether or not you come from any malnourished state beforehand. in that case even 15 pounds is fine. i'm also the heaviest i've ever been, but ride 6-8 times a week and feel fantastic. (not yet on ebikes)

    I don't think I will ever switch from human-powered bikes to EBikes (might concede that later in life I will use a mobility "quad-bike").
    Therefore I haven't paid much attention to the video.

      Fair enough. I actually was targeting to get an ebike in my 70s but got sucked into it (willingly) 🤣. I think people should just chill out and ride what they want and just have fun instead of getting pissed off about something that has nothing to do with them.
      Thanks for the complement on the thumbnail. 😁

    Motor cutting off is jarring indeed - it is jarring how much of the work the motor was handling. It is because how natural the help of the motor feels after few minutes - it feels like it is not doing all that much (on low settings )
    I dissagree that the motor doesn't matter - my brother has bafang bbs02 - which doesn't detect the pedal force - It is fun don't get me wrong but you definitely feel how unnatural the power comes from, which is different from the integrated mid drives. On the matter of newton meters- yea id doesn't matter.

    My main concern with e-MTB would be what happens when the battery dies. Some of them have non-removable batteries, some companies are still not selling extra batteries, and what would be the cost.

    • @MacRogersrealestatebroker
      @MacRogersrealestatebroker 3 месяца назад +1

      Yes that is true. For my Santa Cruz Heckler, the only way I can get a new battery is if mine dies. I asked Santa Cruz directly if I can get an extra one and they said they don't have any in stock which to me defeats the purpose of having a removable battery.

      I have a trekking ebike (2. gen Bosch) for 8 years now which has around 10k km (200-250 loading cycles) on it. I could run it for around 50km on the highest setting when i bought it. Now it still lasts more than 45km if not even more. I would say that the battery doesnt die of old age alone. Luckily i have the standard battery which i could even use for some of the actual Bosch ebikes. Thats why i would always buy a bike with a parts from known brand so that you can buy parts for it by yourself and dont have to rely on the bike company. Over here in Europe some of the "high end" bike companies using nonstandard parts have gone broke and the costumers were left standing in the rain.

    Could not disagree more.
    Riders overestimating themselves is not the bike's fault. They might as well climb on their own power and descend with sore legs.
    Also, lack of exercise is proven wrong. Whatever made you gain weight, it was not the bike. It was your desire to cut ride time. Imagine cutting it by switching to a car. You would have gained even more weight.
    And my last point: my wife got an ebike (cheap one with hub motor). There is no range anxiety, because only mid-engines hold you back when the battery dies, hub engines let you go on.
    And my bike (without assist) is heavier than hers. Because it's me sitting on it, I am approx. 30 kg (that's roughly 66 BS-units) heavier than her, that's more than her whole bike weighs in the first place.
    Wear is a thing, but not due to the bike itself, but because you don't just flow with traffic, you do downhill, that's a little aggressive to your components.

    • @JohnPreston888
      @JohnPreston888 3 месяца назад +1

      I am not able to say whether your comment is a fair response, but it seems perfectly reasonable (and scientific). And it did save me from having to digest the entire video. But this is the first time that I saw Imperial weights expressed as you have (as opposed to good-old worldwide S.I. units) . Gave me a laugh, thanks. 😀

    • @MacRogersrealestatebroker
      @MacRogersrealestatebroker 3 месяца назад

      I am a little confuse about your response. They were able to get to the very top because of the assistance. They would never have gotten there if it was their own power. They would have gotten tired.
      As for exercise, my point is this and maybe I did not make it clear on the video. If I am still riding my regular bike I would be more careful or more concern about my weight gain. I'm not because there is no added pressure when I am climbing because of the assist. However, because I really don't like the way I look, the way I feel and the way my clothes fit me know, I'm starting a health and exercise plan to lose the weight(RAPIDLY). I'm tempted to do a video on that but I think it might bring viewers that are not into ebikes.
      As for wear, I did mention in the beginning that when I say ebikes I mean E mountain bikes.
      Range anxiety might not be real for you but every e mountain biker I know talks about it and at some point worry about it.

    • @sebastiandomagala9233
      @sebastiandomagala9233 3 месяца назад +1

      @@MacRogersrealestatebroker I know it's about e mtb, because I wrote that you kinda ride aggressively, because that's the definition of riding mtb.
      And the fact that the weight gain doesn't bother you when riding an e mtb does by no means mean that it comes from using an e mtb.
      The newbe argument is also an weak one. If you tend to overestimate yourself, then you would do that on a regular bike as well - and reach the top on your very last leg.
      That's not the bike's fault.
      Think of driving a sports car. If you speed in it, then it still isn't the car's fault, it's yours. Same goes with e mtbs.
      Although it must be said that the temptation is way higher when riding with assistance.
      But the decision is still yours to make. You wouldn't tell people skiing to climb manually instead of using the lift, would you?
