I had no idea that pantyhose were so controversial. I'm actually glad to see a number of comments in support of them. I've never been a fan of nude pantyhose (and I've been wearing them for many decades). I always have some color to them. My go-to is a taupe color. And I also wear both sheer and opaque black. I know that not everyone will agree with me, but I think (and I have always, ever since the hose-less leg first made its appearance--for me overseas before the US) the bare leg is frumpier than the leg with hose unless you have very good legs and are very young. I have great skin, so for me, personally, it is not a matter of a lack of self care. But hose provide a more finished, sleek look. Yes, closed-toed shoes.

I am 100% in support of nylons, but age isn't necessarily a factor. In my early 20's, a workmate stopped wearing nylons as soon as she could catch a couple days of sun in March. Our company had a very strict hosiery policy back then, but everyone let her get away with it because her legs and feet were that perfect.
About 5 years ago, a woman in her late 30's/early 40's grocery shopping in a short skirt - perfect legs!
But when I was 14 and babysitting in the 70's, the child's grandmother - well into her 60s - was visiting. She got ready for bed and came out to join me for TV in a knee length night gown. She relaxed on the chaise lounge. I couldn't keep my eyes off of this woman's legs! Here she was white-headed, wrinkled face, tubby apple-shaped body with porcelain white, absolutely perfect legs! No age spots, no veins, no busted blood vessels, no cellulite- just perfection!
I remember being totally amazed and more than a bit jealous.

I have to disagree about the nude stockings. I am a professional in a relatively conservative environment with a dress code and I always wear nude tights in spring and summer and dark tights during the colder months.
I have absolutely no problem showing my legs but i feel that nude tights give structure to my outfits and they make me feel more put together.

Same, I found the natural ones look great on me. I have scars from multiple surgery's and nude stockings help hid it. I do have to get light color nude ones because I'm pale. Personally I can slather my legs in creams or oils and they still will look blotchy and bump and scars dont go away. No I'm not going to resort to wearing makup on my legs. I can tell you unless your wearing a color that's to dark and wearing the right clothes that works for your body type. I dont see pantyhose as frumpy, I see classy and put together. Personally were I live it the teens that are wearing the black tights or blck pantyhose and I'm pail and I just dont like black pantyhose one me. I think its it's a personal preference however I did see something on Amazon called barely black that looks interesting.

I think it's a cultural thing as well - I keep seeing Americans dislike nude stockings while in my country almost everyone uses them, including younger women EXCEPT for open toed shoes. They're just very practical and they make everything look good. You just need the proper shade that matches your skin, or a very very thin den degree, like 10 - 20 den.

If you have imperfect legs, spider, varicose veins, swollen, mottled, discolored legs, hose are a must and nude comes in many sheer tint shades to cover up flaws; a sundress or summer shift with sandals is the only time i would go without hose in the dead heat of summer...I remember reading about Jackie Kennedy showing up at a church in Florida in the 60's in a summer shift dress with sandals, a lace veil and BARE legs! What a stir she caused!
Suits and formal dress fabrics require hose

For those of us who live in colder climates wearing stockings is an absolute must. I rarely wear hosiery in the summer, except for certain occasions where it is more appropriate to have some coverage such as special religious ceremonies. I have never had a problem finding exceptional nylons that enhance the legs and are virtually undetectable. My advice is to stay away from shiny ones, match the colour, more or less, to your legs, and of course never where them with sandals. The right hosiery creates flawless, beautiful legs that can make those not wearing them look like country peasants by comparison. Perhaps I'm lucky living in a colder place where wearing nylons is the norm, and where I still get compliments from men telling me I have attractive legs-thanks to the magic of nylons!

Totally agree. I hate the bare leg look and bare feet in high heels is just gross. Summer time with sundresses and sandals it is ok to go bare legged, but I cannot figure out when or why it became popular to grease your legs up and go without hose. How do women stand wearing high heels all day with no hose on? Their shoes must need fumigated on a regular basis.

I wouldn't even wear a dress without stockings in winter or when i have to wear higher heels. I am from Europe and i never could understand why women in usa are so afraid of stockings because the place i come form women are very elegant and it is actually not common be in elegant dress without stockings unless it is deep hot summer but then you wear summer dress with sandal type of shoes anyway. Buying good matching stockings takes time so i guess many women are not patient enough. Also, most of usa is very warm climate so might be the reason, too why its not popular.

I love your videos. I am 56 and it took me a long time not to wear stockings -- when I was younger no one ever didn't wear stockings with a dress, after about age 18 unless it was summer and a very casual dress (certainly not to work or church). I was shocked when young women started wearing dresses without stockings to work, I thought it looked so unprofessional and childish. I'm finally catching up to the rest of the world but still wouldn't wear a skirt without stockings to work. i wear (yes) No Nonsense nude stockings. At least with the dresses I wear, they look nude on me, and I just FEEL more dressed up. For a while I tried black and opaque black stockings, but where I live no one wears them except in winter. I love tights and black hose in winter. But summer, going to work or to the theater or something formal-ish: it's those nude stockings.

Keep up the good work Erin, you are loved. Although I wish nude panty hose would come back, I do not like wearing bare legs in winter and there are still businesses that have a dress code where you have to wear panty hose. I also liked them because I wore the expensive ones that were like Spanx, I believe they were Givenchy (don't think they make them anymore). They made everything smooth when you wore a dress over them, no jiggling when you walked. I am sorry they are not in style anymore.

If you wanted to wear them, then by all means you could continue to do so, but for those who preferred to wear “spanx” in lieu of full length hose, were finally set free! No show foot liners or peds as my mother used to say, are an option for those who dislike wearing shoes without hose or socks. A little self tanner on the legs, and you’re good to go! @teresacarle294 4 года назад +7

😉 Feel your pain! Wear the hose if it works for you. Think nude & black opaque hose can make an outfit more elegant & finished. Luckily, I lead a more casual lifestyle.
☀️In LA, it's too hot🌡& miserable to layer up in our heat🔥. Long for soft, loose, unstructured garments. Cropped pants are already a compromise for shorts that are now forbidden🚫. Give a girl a break. I do wear a lot of skirts, but full-length trousers are a rarity. Forget jeans or denim of any sort, prefer light-weight & breathable fabrics.
👣 Worse, my feet have only got more challenging with age. They don't look wide, but they don't fit most standard shoes any more. 😆Frustrating to find fit & fashion at an affordable price point.
Plus, they are even more susceptible to blistering these days. I can wear flip-flops as indoor slippers to lounge about the house, but will get a blister in a nanosecond if I walk outdoors in any sandal for any "normal" (vs marathon) amount of activity.
🖤Love wearing those barefeet socks, but they only work in certain closed toed shoes (some ballerina flats, loafers, oxfords|brogues, pumps, espadrilles, sneakers, etc.) They come in thinner & thicker textures that work in different styles. Compared to going sockless, they do a decent job to help prevent blisters.💲Always hunt for these socks on sale.
      ✌😊🤙

and we can wear them almost year round. In fact, I like
that they kinda absorb perspiration, and I don't like slippery
feet with any shoes. In the colder months, people wear more
black and blue, darker ones compliment those colours nicely

I'm with you there. Most of the time I wear trousers (with socks) but when I wear a skirt then I wear tights (English English for pantyhose!) for warmth a lot of the year, but mainly because I hate wearing shoes without tight or socks, however hot the weather. Without them, if the weather's cold my feet are frozen and in hot weather they feel all sticky. Oh, and by the way, I have scars from thighs to feet after a car accident 30+ years ago and that's the least important reason for wearing them.

The issue about trouser length is something I learned the hard way by trial and error (my legs are fine, but everyone can be made to look worse by the wrong fit/length!) and seeing you explain it here is great confirmation! I laughed out loud with your commentary about not needing to put hands in pockets (especially on your stomach, haha 😆). I totally agree about floppy cowl neck tops and have no idea why clothing companies market these monstrosities (usually aimed at middle-aged and older ladies). Loved that off-shoulder sweater though! Hi Erin, as always, I enjoy your videos very much. You are right about thick pantyhose making us look frumpy. HOWEVER, more than getting the right color, one needs to choose the right denier. Denier is the thickness of the silk or nylon used to make the stocking.
Denier 10 to 20 are the thinnest and sheerest, but usually they are bit on the delicate side.
There is something very, very refined and elegant (and sexy) of using the perfect pantyhose that makes legs look wonderful.
I agree, wearing black, off-black and in general a darker, very sheer color is more modern. In a professional setting, the polish of a pair on pantyhose is unrivaled; keeps legs warm from intense air conditioning and in the winter, helps to give legs a healthy color.
With ALL else, I agree, agree, agree!

Hanes classic net pantyhose in the nude color really nailed it for me. Since Hanes stopped making them, I've relied on other brands. Hanes has a new version, but I hate the fit. It's key to get the right nude shade to match or enhance your SKINTONE, and they must be MICRONET so it won't look like you're wearing fishnets. Avoid anything called SUNTAN. It's like foundation for your legs--the right one does you so many favors, and the wrong one is a disaster.

As a woman in her mid 70’s, with wide hips & thighs, I don’t look great in shorts in the summer and long pants are too hot, so I have opted for capris as the next best thing. The next longer pant looks like the dreaded “high waters” on my short frame. You have really put me into a dilemma now!!

    'Legg's sheer elegance nude.'
Pantyhose is not just to cover up legs. It's to smooth things out, hide panty lines and helps shoes feel better. As an older woman I was taught that a lady is not properly dressed without them.
There are also sheer toe with single seam that can be worn under toes if you're wearing a nice sandal with heels for those who can't go without.

I could really see the contrast between some of those upgrades - pant length, monochrome and those pockets!! I remember you said in one video about a year ago to actually cut out the inside lining of front pockets on jeans and pants. So I followed your advice!! I have done it already on pants, shorts and even a dress. It makes the contour a lot more streamlined and flattering without them. I just don't get why pockets are in anything even a coat!! I recently bought a winter coat (I live in Australia and we have just come out of winter) and it has no pockets - it looks so much better than the ones I have seen with bulky pockets. It also adds to construction costs as well and if we actually put our hands in them, it will ruin the shape of the garmet and the look of the outfit. I totally agree with you that it adds unnecessary bulk to an area that we women are already blessed with.

Heather Valentine I also live in Australia, and about a year ago decided quite the reverse: pants and jackets/coats MUST have pockets or I won’t buy them. It’s a bonus if tops have pockets, but generally that’s hoping for too much.
However, I am a self admitted frump and comfort rules my life nowadays.

Erin, you are an excellent comedienne! I haven't had a belly laugh in a long time...the section about the cardigan's off placed pockets where you say: "Are you really gonna walk around your house with your hands in your pockets" and then "well hello there," and the facial expressions you made, classic! It's at timestamp 11:28-11:43, I couldn't stop laughing. It felt so good to genuinely laugh as I've been going through a bout of depression. I love all your videos, and you've helped me tremendously.

I have never seen a jumper with pockets where they were on the illustrated garment, and if you have large feet, white trainers just make your feet look bigger, even if they are fashionable.

I will look for this when I have to wear a more "dressed-up" look (which is rare these days- most of my dresses are casual summer styles. I'd rather wear a dress than shorts or pants in hot weather!)- I have always hated pantyhose, but sometimes that look is necessary.

Loved your tips.My favorite all-time go to was A button up white cotton blouse with folded down collar and not cuffed but rolled sleeves. The bottom piece was a modestly form fitting pair of black leggings that grazed the ankle.A black pump and a tuxedo cut black velvet vest and I could go anywhere and feel comfortable.I wore that same outfit with multiple combinations of accessories and never failed to get a compliment.1 good go to outfit frees up so much time.☺️

If nude hose is good enough for the royals, they're good enough for me. Moisturizer does not address all skin problems or keep you warm. Black does not go with everything. Also, you don't need to scrub off your hose at the end of the day like you do with leg make up.

Donna Karan used to make super sheer (and also easy to run because they were so delicate) pantyhose that just made your legs look better. I no longer need to wear stockings for work or warmth but these were great.

I think the rule of pantyhose Buckingham palace uses is: wear the lightest color possible and matte black if you are wearing black shoes. Kate has published her favorite hose company.

Hi Erin, would you try with capri pants to make the hem line even more up ? So it will be where the knee ends at smallest part. I think this can be great idea. Just a thought of mine.

    • @BusbeeStyle
      @BusbeeStyle  4 года назад +1

I would not do that because it would visually cut me off making me look stumpy. The longer pant elongates the leg and is far more flattering. xo
