    At my age, I'm afraid loosing ten years is going to do much for me. Looking 73 is still old. Since I am down to 5'1", I settle for trying to look small, cute and lively. I also smile a lot. I try to be polite and thankful for the day I've been given. Your tips and my basic attitude keeps people treating me more like a cute treasure than a relic.

      Fyi 73 is fabulous don’t forget all the beauty that is you …..as we grow older it’s important to adjust our idea of what beauty really is try this trick not super easy but once you master it super effective I want you to look in the mirror and I want you to look at yourself and you tell yourself that is what beauty is that image that you see in the mirror at this moment in time that is what beauty is…..do this several times a day every day and you will find yourself loving what you see and identifying with your image! and here’s a tip to remember that you are a spirit inside a body you your essence is not your body your spirit is experiencing human form why we do not teach more self-love is beyond me but I bet you are absolutely fabulous and you should believe that…..I’m sure you have more wisdom, knowledge and experience to share which is the true beauty of life and these are your unique gifts to share with the world you have earned your stripes to hold your head high and are more prized than you realize, God bless xoxo

    Anything, however, gives the illusion of "young" if paired with heels!!! Like your first look - the white dress with the big black print wouldve been fine if it was a size or two smaller, with a belt and black stilettos instead of the Grandma comfort shoes. Granted, I like the black better with the Valentino belt, but if you HAD to, you could make the white one work with different shoes and accessories.

    Thank you! Years ago I saw an actress say “too much fabric makes you look older” and it’s true. As a bigger, taller woman, most of the advice we get doesn’t work. Almost all the clothing for us the last 30 years is boxy, ugly, costume-like, garish-like a lot of the “before” outfits you wear here (ugh that chunky necklace reminded me of those cheap plastic things grandmas wore in the 70’s). I find that our clothing should be somewhat fitted. Not over-tight or too small, but somewhat fitted to show you have a body.

      Yes, and honestly as a woman in her early 50's I have as much trouble wondering whether it seems like I'm trying to dress too young as with dressing too old. It's tough to find that just-right balance. (Same goes for hairstyle.)

    • @PsycheDancer
      @PsycheDancer 4 года назад +3

      @@roseschulze1647 YES!!! You can find articles everywhere for how to, and not to, dress in your 20's, 30's, 40's and even 60's but you hit your 50's and you're completely on your own! (40's too, but still more common than 50's!) And the conflicting info/feedback I get from people! I, personally, look better in a bikini than a one piece (not just my opinion! My oh so embarrass-able 20 something daughter and son-in-law, and conservative hubby unanimously agree), but then I wear an almost fingertip length skort and have a friend comment about my @ss hanging out! I'm 5'4" and have a 36" inseam, EVERYTHING looks short on me! I'm at a completely loss now, when it comes to dressing "appropriately" for my age. I'm also not ready to give up my waist length hair, no matter what people think! I do wear it up in a ponytail most of the time for work, and like the versatility. When it starts looking shabby, I'll cut it... Until then, if it's not dragging my face down, and looks polished and healthy, why is it a problem?
      *Just posted and re-read that. I really don't know how else to word it, and I'm really not doing the "oh poor me" braggy thing. My hair is colored regularly, I'm average weight and never had a great build. I'm just really, really short waisted and have disproportionately long legs for my height. Buying jeans/pants in a 5/6, that aren't several inches too short is just ridiculous, especially on a budget!

The rules go out the window! LOL!

      How we feel is always the most important part of how others perceive us. It shows on this video as well. It's not just the clothes that create the difference, it's also how she feels wearing them, how she holds herself. In the before the shoulders are down and the way she moves is that of someone feeling small and in the after she stands taller and feels more confident. Clothes can surely have that affect, but we can also feel confident in ourselves, which is preferred anyway and it will definitely be seen by others.

    • @mchapman132
      @mchapman132 3 года назад +10

      @@chimi1924 - thank goodness for your post. I’m going through the exact same issue. I was 99 lbs, all my adult life to around menopause age 50, which added 25 lbs. I’m 5’2”, size 14, I’m 73. At age 69 I was 125 lbs. size 6-8.
      Age 70 hit and everything changed, my waistline disappeared, bust got bigger, weight on hips and butt. My darn doctors said, I’m healthy, no issues, no prescriptions, and it’s just my age.
      I hate that. I eat healthy, but weight went to 160. So, needless to say, my style of dressing changed. I wore skinny jeans and tops just as in the video and heels. Now, I still can wear heels, nice ones, slim slacks, tank tops to hide tummy, and and loose overage shirt, jackets type…open front. Jeans are uncomfortable now due to tummy, hate zippers. I never show my upper arms, they got flabby. My husband says I always look nice, put together, which makes me feel good, and I still get compliments but I’m not happy with the body change because how it’s affected my style of dressing. Being short with large bustline, moderate tummy makes me feel dumpy, so no more dresses.
      The point is many older ladies get so many “trouble” body spots, it’s difficult to camouflage all of them, especially if you’re a bit vain and like to look good.

    OMG! I totally feel called out! Most of your “before” outfits were eerily similar to my every day looks. I used to say that I was dressed like a librarian or Mrs. Weasley from Harry Potter. Not that I’ve watched your video, I can see why my daughter kept telling me that my clothes weren’t doing anything for me. Thank you for putting this video together. I think the only other thing I would have like to see are the purses you would have recommend. I am guilty of using the same black purse with EVERYTHING because it’s practical. Not that practical is a bad thing. In fact, I appreciate that you remind us to shop our own closet first. If you ever do a video on purses, I’d love you to include a couple purse option for each outfit. For example, some of us need to carry reading glasses, snacks (to maintain blood sugar), and bottled water everywhere we go IN ADDITION to wallet and keys while others may be able to get away with those crossbody purses. If you would consider that for a future video, that would be awesome! Again, thank you for your time and ideas!

    Thanks. But you don't have diabetic belly or love handles, or hip to cover, so, your last option is no way covering problem areas. 2- Basically, you didn't use colour or print, n stayed with black n white. There are numerous fine prints in youthful colors, that go with older women beautifully. I admire older women who look much younger, by choosing bold colorful fresh young prints n jewelry...I see in NZ.

      Yeah. I’m in my late 20s. Something that annoys me is how the fashion and beauty industry demonize age. It should be celebrated that you’ve reached your age and have wisdom and experience to share, but your age does not mean you have to wear frumpy clothes in the wrong cuts that do you no favours. I also want this culture that doesn’t allow women to age in peace to end. It’s 2020 already. This sexist culture that sees mature men as authoritative and mature women as “expired” is disgusting. I see it all over the internet and it’s time for a culture change.
      I’m sick of fillers and Botox being heavily marketed at my age group because it’s somehow indecent for women to get wrinkles and lose under eye fat tissue.

      Shelly, YES, I did think the same... I am now 51 and have always dressed to look my "best" based on my body shape and coloring. I actually say "I don't mind looking my age, I just want to look my best version of it." Unfortunately, Erin's headline resonates with too many women due to marketing telling us we are a problem to fix! When I was heavier, it didn't much change my style, I just looked better in a bigger tag size, but similar cuts of clothing. I DO appreciate Erin's intention to "freshen" or "uncrimp" us at any age, and her suggestions are good.

    Having worked in a clothing store geared to women over 40, these shops have many options including biker style jackets and sweaters. A shop that is “over 40 means all the way to “OVER 91”. There are women who have small breasts, zero buttocks and a thick waist that need clothes, as well as women with osteoporosis or in wheelchairs, and I helped them find outfits. I strongly suggest shopping in more then one store and I always went to places like Forever 21 to see if they had anything to wear with the “over 40” outfits. I have told women that had figures like yours that they might get a better fit at a different store, at least for some things. I was proud to work at that store and help women in their late 60’s and 70’s get ready for their cruise 🚢! Not all women unplug from living on their 65th birthday. Many have feet 🦶 that need lots of love from working hard for decades. So those frumpy shoes at least beat the old lady shoes of the 60’s and 70’s. I am one of those people who unfortunately need lots of foot support from many years in restaurants and in retail, and I am not yet 60. So, what I am saying is these stores are meant for either very thick waisted women who are younger then 55 over 55 and older. Seniors have money and seniors need clothes.

      Sorry to disagree, but SOOooo many seniors DON'T have money! That's why I appreciate your mention of shopping your own closet AND shopping at thrift stores! I used to immediately dismiss that idea due to INCORRECT, PRECONCEIVED opinions about "previously worn" clothes, etc. I now go "Thrifting" with my closest friend, & 95% of what I buy still have the original dept. store &/or designer's tags all over them & have CLEARLY never been worn before. I may not advertise it, but my husband & family have admitted what great buys I've made on ALL types of items. Judge not...

I think this video for over 40 is very nice but i need to find for 70 year olds. I just want to dress how i want r to dress. Heck at this age looking younger is not important as trying to stay healthy and able to breathe and move and excercize. And remember all fashion changes. Personally, i love the 40s look. Old movies have actresses wearing fantastic clothing. I was a 70s era. Bell bottons, halter tops. Etc. Have a great day and wear what you like. .

    if the first large print dress was done with the same shoes/accessories as the small print one, it would look great. The issue with this is - people who are trying to cover up with loose clothes are much bigger than you and do not have your body shape, so anything you recommended for a more modern look would not look good on them for one reason or another...

    • @TravelPhotoWriter

      I might disagree. I have seen BIG women who work with their curves in the way Erin describes ("body skimming" not fitted) look GREAT. Pulled together, more fresh. Classier/fun, not frumpy. Frumpy doesn't hide big, so just try embracing it. I would say to plus-size women, go try on the concepts in a store like dress-up, and take some photos. Or better, have a friend take them (better angles). Set aside for a moment the meanness we see ourselves with - do your own loose hide frump shots at home. Then in the store, Erin's suggestions. You're not trying to be tiny Erin, you're going for a classier fresher YOU. 😍 WE ALL deserve to feel attractive in some way NOW, what if her ideas work?!!

Now need to know how to dress for that. Your 'after' styles are totally me and I won't look like mutton dressed as lamb lol. I'm going to sort my wardrobe now to chuck the old and keep the young coordinates etc, just based on the styles in this video alone. They are already in my wardrobe but hidden by all the 'applicable to age' stuff. Thank you. Your just what I need. Blessings to you.

      @Linda Hoskins Good for you girlfriend! You will be youthful forever as long as you keep on "trying". I'm over 50 & have many girlfriends 15-20 years older than myself. The ones that at least TRY, always look more youthful than the ones that just don't care anymore. I re evaluate my closet about every 4-5 years. That way I tend to keep "classics" but don't hold on to any "trendy" items that will make us look out dated. I know exactly what you mean about "age appropriate"; wearing something only because it is "expected at your age". I like to think that I wear classic clothing for women that are 10-15 years younger than me. No "Hello Kitty", trendy teenager items, "daisy duke" short shorts or skirts, but that doesn't mean over 50's can't wear something a 40-45 yr old would wear!!
