there is very little smoke or haze that's made with oil nowadays. No professional, touring group would use oil based haze or fog because it leaves residue all over the instruments.
It was great to see you at the 9:30 Club in DC but it was clear you were still recovering. I'm glad to have seen you but knowing that you were sick I wish you had rescheduled us, too! Don't let anything happen to that godlike voice of yours.
Anything can throw your voice off , I did a live outdoor performance where the temperature dropped and was cold , my vocal chords literally froze because of the sudden hit of cold air ....

There is NO reason Geoff's voice should lose any range over time unless he simply does not take care of it either with a more healthy lifestyle for his voice or a lack weekly vocalizing practice (most likely both). I have been singing over 20 years and my voice is stronger and has more range than it did in my 20's & 30's when I was technically at my vocal peak. To get sick from theatrical smoke is kinda strange as they are water based. Something else is going on vocally.

About the black thing.I met him last Friday at Alrosa Villa.He told me he was creole. So that could explain why he checked black. Creole's are a mix of black,native and french like Beyonce's mom.
@RocktheStageNYC From my own experience it takes a WHOLE LOT of discipline to maintain your voice in top shape. More than any other instrument. Because it is your body. Nowadays, Geoff has fallen in love with wine. As a listener is frustrating because seeing him live and hearing him sing is like seeing this caged lion waiting to come out of his guts but instead you get something else. It's like seeing someone with the body of Geoff Tate but you look at him and you don't feel it's him.
As Compared to James Labrie.I saw an interview where he said quoting Meatloaf. "You have to let your voice be". That was lame. He should learn from James and what he went through in Cuba. It took James 8 years to recover and the help from guys like Jamie Vendera to get back to singing. It looks to me like Geoff is just lazy and sleeping on his laurels. That's a huge disappointment for a person that went to get his wine in Orange County just to thank him for inspiring him to sing.
@einarabelc5 - I have to look after it everyday. EVERY DAY. I have to watch my diet, drinks plenty of water, watch my sugar and caffeine, vitamins, washing hands and all that. I look after my voice as if I had to carry a very expensive guitar around all day without a case. How would I take care of it. I'd baby it. Geoff is resting on his laurels a bit too much. Some daily vocal practice and less wine would do wonders.
@rovibe - this is called "keeping the viral presence". Its just marketing. The fact is Geoff does not take care of his voice as much as he should smoking and drinking alcohol. Major impediments to a clear and healthy voice. These are the major reasons why Geoff has lost some upper range over the years.
