So from what I heard from the Costco GM at my local Costco is, The V3 was released 4 weeks ago, Today is Aug 26 2023. The release idea is to send out the firmer, harder, straighter V3. Everybody buys them, some will like, some won't. However, that's all to set up the release of V3 Soft around November, just in time for Xmas gifts. Should be interesting.

I'm a 6-8 handicap and hit my 8 iron 155 yards with a Pro V. I'm lucky to get 145 yards with the V3 Kirkland ball and have seen some crazy spinning shots off my driver (I tend to hit fade shots). I just can't get used to the loss of distance and "dead" feel when hitting them.

A piece of advice from an old golfer. Buy some used clubs for your first set. Look only at game improvement irons. Stay away from blades. As a new golfer a 15 year old set of Ping irons will do you better than new blades. Spend the money on lessons first, clubs second.

I primarily played the v2 last year, been primarily been playing v3 this year. I've found the v3 to be a lot straighter, mainly because i get less spin with it than the v2. I really haven't noticed much difference in terms of distance, and have tended to get more balloon balls with v2. The v2 has a kind of weird flight path: it would go out there with power, but then kind of just stop and settle down steeply like it was a marshmallow falling out of the sky. I like the feel of the v2 more around the green.
Fwiw, my driver swing speed is in the 95-100 mph range.

The only real improvement I've seen from testing the V3, along with seeing a lot of others test it vs the V2 is the Durability went up quite a bit. Although the firmness also went up. Aside from that, its mostly the same between them regarding spin / distance. V3 is a bit lower spin off the driver, the V2 had way too much spin with driver, hence why it was known for ballooning up in the air.

The last few years I was playing the Callaway Hex Tour (3 piece ball)purchased at Costco. I liked how they played at a good price. Costco stopped selling the Callaways this year, so I took a chance on the Signature v3 (I didn’t like the v2’s). They are similar to the Hex Tour in feel and probably better around the greens. The performance is good enough that I went back and bought another box of 2 dozen. At a 13 handicap they’re just fine.

  • @James_Vaughn
    @James_Vaughn Год назад +3

Good video! I saw these and was tempted to try them. The V2's were way too spinny for me, and as a result I lost distance off driver (on course and Trackman). I may try some anyway at close to 1$ a piece. I swing driver around 105, but can do 110 when I try. The problem is that a lot of the courses I play are pretty narrow, and it's way too easy easy to lose balls on even slight mishits. So I guess I'm always looking for a cheaper option (probably a unicorn really) that will go as far as the firmer 'tour' balls to use at those places.

I did go ahead and grab a box of these the other day. I played one for 3 holes on Wednesday and went birdie, par, par. (only 3 because I was running out of daylight) I hit a big drive on the par5 that I birdied, but it was downwind and I caught the downslope, so hard to tell anything on that. I'll have to try them some more, but I liked what I saw. I didn't notice any ballooning into the wind. I'm hoping they will turn out to be a good option on courses that gobble up any mishits.
BTW I've passed them by this year at Costco because I wasn't sure if the only that had been changed was the package, good reviews of the actual V3's are hard to find.

@@LetsPlayThru I got more rounds in and I could game these full time, except they do fall short on driving distance by 10+ yds. Not the end of the world, but I've worked hard, and spent a good amount of money getting to where I can hit the ball as far as I do now, so I don't want to give that up. That being said, they are a fantastic value at 1/4th the price of premium balls, without giving up short game spin. They punch way above their weight in quality and durability also. So, like before, they will come out in places where I don't want to risk a $4 a piece ball. lol

Have gone through a few sleeves now and every ball has been heavily scuffed from just a few wedge shots from 30-50yds out. Not just a deep stain, but part of the cover lifting up after really good groove contact. They seem to last 6 holes…or it takes me that long to get really good contact on approach shots. For about a dollar a ball, I can’t really complain. Straight off the driver and soft off the wedges.

I pretty much took away from the test the same thing I thought before I watched...it's tough to compare unless your swings are VERY consistant. I'm not knocking you, I appreciate the video. The average double digit-to high double digit player doesn't have anywhere near your consistancy here (I speak from experience☹️)so .... Maybe the most important takeaway from your test, and some of the comments, is v2 is a bit softer feeling, and v3 is a bit firmer feel but with better spin and bite around the greens. Personally, I like Srixon Q star, but I still haven't got a good enough game that a ball is going to make a noticable difference. So I'm looking for the best ball I can get at a price limit I set for myself. Buying a $1000 arrow isn't going to help me hit the🎯😁

I cycled through 2 boxes of them (48 balls) and every time I would play a TP5, ProV1, even a Callaway or Bridgestone I seemed to prefer them in feel, distance, and playability of the mainstream brands. @@ryanwalters694 the Kirkland golf ball has the compression of 90 which is exactly the same as Titleist Pro V1. So it is not soft compression at all but definitely high spin. Which is what I mentioned above, it is not a recommended ball for Mid handicappers by my golf spy. If you want a thought, low spin ball that is really comfortable I play the Callaway Supersoft at $25 a dozen.

I don't play Kirkland anymore. Why: okay around the green; but definitely short off irons and driver (etc.). I found the Maxfli Tour + better on all accounts. It a bit more $. But certainly not in the Pro V1 range.

Great demo and appreciate the details, I shoot in the 90s so i am as average as it gets and love golf ball deals. The KSv2 felt like not much compression or spin. I switched to Maxfli soft feel (48 pack, 59.99) and they felt better. Willing to try KSv3 at Costco and at same time enjoy a cheap lunch!

Have you been able to check the compression of the V3 ball ? The V2 should be 85 Prov 1 is 86 also, TP5, Snell, SEED all are mid 80s too.
V3 may be PXG ball fusion with the V2 Kirkland. The PXG is a 99 compression and reported to be made in the same ball factory as the Kirkland V2. Prov 1X and TP5 X are 99 compression.
Please do a Rck Shields bunker bashing test to see how they wear.

Hi, enjoyed your video. But do have one question; why do you refer to the one as the V3 version of these balls? Granted, it's a newer Hirkland ball, but it doesn’t appear to be marketed as a "v3.0").

One thing I would caution you on is the assessment of the inconsistent mantle thickness. Unless you are positive you cut it perfectly along the equator, you are going to see a slight difference in thickness going around the ball just because of the angle of the cut. Having said that, there is no doubt in my mind the Kirkland ball can have some inconsistency in that layer just due to the quality standards of a ball in that price range.
