Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel! This RUclips channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf equipment reviews, golf instruction & I play against some of the best golfers in the world!
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
The transition from "It's down the left but I think it's fine.." to the shot of him the woods is priceless hahaha
Every video tbf 😉
Mr Excuses 😂
My question is how does he find it so deep in the trees?
@@fliggopolisspotters.
Made me laugh out loud. Brilliant piece of editing.
All this time Rick just needed Costco clubs…😂
How did you comment so quickly the video dropped 4 minutes ago 😂
Knowing Rick, he’ll burn the set after the round because he scored too well with them💀
Nope he would never play them. He’s too good for these irons. He’s made that clear. They are good enough for the rest of us just not him. He needs blades and everything custom fitted. He’s a golf snob. I switched to this exact set up. I’m scratch and after a few rounds I play exactly the same as with $3500 fitted clubs. Costco has proven all these fittings we have to have are not needed for almost all golfers.
Rick can’t putt for his life.😂
@@TonyToning-ne7uq he does admit it. He’s big time in his head and these clubs are beneath him. He’d rather play bad golf with expensive clubs than good golf with clubs suited to his ability.
That 6 iron from a bunker 190 yards away and over trees to land on the green was absolutely superb. Well done Rick, an excellent review of Kirkland products.
This is my favourite kind of Rick Shiels content. Felt like a blast from the past
These clubs give you confidence. Out of all the hundreds of videos I’ve watched of you Rick, Ive never seen you so confident. Thats got to be enough right there to keep them in the bag.
Rick, I’d consider putting these in the bag if I were you. They do wonders for your mental approach. You genuinely just look like you’re out there to enjoy yourself…maybe because the expectations are lower. Love your videos!
Confirmed! For the next Open qualifier, Rick will be entering as Sir Kirkland
Think you mean captain Kirk-land 😂😂
It would be AWESOME content!!! Plz do it!!!😂😂
Rick!!! Always go for the extra club when you are within 5% of your limit- that’s such a high handicap mistake
I think this shows how much of Rick’s game (and probably everyone’s game) is mental, when he gives himself a “handicap” and he doesn’t put high expectations on himself he plays way better.
@@MediumWolf227 yes Rick is big time now and he thinks golf is fittings most expensive of everything and blades only. He cares more about optics than playing best golf possible. I’m shocked that he’s willing to play public courses anymore.
Meh, he's still thinking about which holes he can birdie to get a specific score, he's still saying "gotta get up and down here for par", blah blah, all the stuff James told him to stop doing.
@@PJo336 thanks you are first to say this. James got his game trending in the right direction but Rick being Rick and has to big time he went right back to all his bad habits. Rick has become that golfer that knows it all and is just better than the rest of us.
Yes, this goes for most people... You have to have experience and continued experience playing in tournaments to actually play well in them.
@@Lovetheducks Go Ducks!
The answer to your question at 7:32 absolutely, yes.
The only thing holding Kirkland back is golf snobbery. Personally I play with the Kirkland wedges and balls alongside Ping G425 irons. Sadly I know way too many golfers who would play with Kirkland but wouldn’t want the brand in their bag. I say get over yourself and try them - absolutely brilliant and totally affordable.
Great video Rickster 🙌🏻
See but that’s why if you meet someone that has them they are always a genuine and kind person
I have Kirkland wedges with g425 sft & ping i525 irons love the set
Maybe the answer is they should rebrand them under a different name and keep the Kirkland branding out of sight? Or redo the Kirkland logo just for the clubs so it doesn’t look like the same logo you’d see on a bagged rotisserie chicken perhaps lol. I have to admit the standard Kirkland branding looks a bit out of place on the head of a golf club.
As a new golfer who uses marketplace/ ebay pre-owned equipment and just watches RUclips golf. It's great seeing how affordable golf is becoming. The world needs brands like Kirkland clubs to break that barrier.
Don't go in... This comment is probably a trap 😅
Or you can go online and buy used too. Just bought a MINT set of jpx923’s this morning for 20% off
All the DTC brands are even more affordable than Kirkland.
All the DTC brands are even more affordable, and just as good.
Golf is at one of its least affordable times in history.
I switched to this exact set up about a month ago. I wanted to prove to my friends I can play the exact same with these over my $3500 fitted set. It took a five or six rounds to get fully comfortable with them. Now there’s no difference in my scoring ball flight etc. only difference is lost about 6 yards off the tee. I will say every round I’ve played with people I don’t know they have all wanted to try and hit the clubs it’s funny. I’m a scratch golfer and love the clubs and balls. The true sleeper is they might be the best gloves out there as well.
I use the Kirkland gloves. As good as anything else I've tried. Used to use the balls as well but changed to Vice which are noticeably longer.
@@mortonslumber2695 no you didn’t. Lol im kidding. The Kirkland gloves are as good if not better than the $40 gloves. I mean $30 for 4 gloves with cabretta leather amazing. I have my mom on the vice balls now she’s 70 and they’ve made a difference. Great balls as well. Unfortunately for Rick he’s big time and too good for Kirkland and vice.
You must be a Costco employee
@@guyjr.8268 nope own car dealerships but I’m huge Costco guy lol. I switched to a full Costco set as a bet with my friends that I could play just as good golf. I did and enjoy the clubs and the attention they garner is amazing. A pro golfer could easily play these on tour and play well enough to win. They are very good clubs. For hollow bodied they are extremely consistent ball flight I get none of those weird flyers. See Costco should pay me.
I would actually love to try the Kirkland Irons, but they’ve been sold out forever now
Why not a full 18? A break 75 with all Kirkland would be killer. You with all Kirkland, Guy with his own? Or both all Kirkland? I’d love to see it!
rick's reviews are always 10/10 👏🏻👏🏾👏🏼👏🏽👏🏿
RUclips?!?!
I want to get into golf, but the price of many big name clubs is just out of reach. From this video, I gather that the wedges and Irons from Kirkland are a good start to a decent bag. Thanks a million 👍
you can find the putter and wedges used on facebook marketplace or ebay for even cheaper because they have been around for a while and get a pretty good deal on them. The irons and driver are newer so I have had trouble finding much of a discount from the retail price
@@lando2519 Thanks Lando
Looking forward to next years race for The Open, using Kirkland only clubs and balls! Think of the explosion in views when you shoot a 65 in qualifying using those bad boys.
Why will he only be playing 9 holes?
The Kirkland Open
These golf companies are a scam when you can get tacomo irons or Kirkland or so many other solid clubs that perform and feel just as good as these other scambrands
I think the big companies are overpriced for sure, but to be fair I’ve also read that Tacomo (made in China) irons lose their club face shape and deform after a season or 2 of usage. Doubt that happens with the big brands.
Those Toyota Tacoma irons are mint
They aren't a scam. They pay hundreds of millions of dollars to players, advertising and marketing.
@@craigcrawford6749 Not much. Practice matters.
Not a scam. Do you think Kirkland or these DTC brands would have hollow body irons with speed foam if TaylorMade or some other company didn't spend the time and money on R&D? The answer is no.
As soon as they have those last few missing pieces, I could see them getting some guys on tour sponsored. Imagine golf bays at Costco where you get fitted for their clubs. Game changer.
Interesting question Rick asked about "are we paying too much for golf clubs?". My initial thought was clearly "yes" because we can play just as well with these Kirklands as with premium brands; but the truth is these Kirklands are all clearly some variation on a premium club (like vokeys with the wedges). So you have to consider that the price points of premium clubs also represents the additional time and effort into R&D that they put in to come up with new designs. These Kirklands wouldn't be this good without the premium designs to immitate.
Great demo of what the Costco equipment can be used to achieve in the way of scoring. Thank you!
Looking forward to getting the Irons and driver, Love my wedges, putter with the weight kit and the balls.. .. Well done Rick..
Rick I say this for everyone watching. We won’t be mad if you start playing this bag. This was awesome 😂❤
I am definitely impressed with the success of the Kirkland golf equipment. Unfortunately I am yet to see anything other than the balls and gloves in Costco warehouses in my area of Canada
What area of Canada are you in? In Ottawa, I’ve seen all of the products in warehouse
I’ve seen the wedges
@@Descan26 you've seen the irons in Ottawa?
@@Descan26The driver as well?
China can copy just about anything
I need these in my life... worked out when I last bought clubs... 22 years ago. Its just hard to prioritise golf clubs over THE COST OF LIFE but I play weekly so maybe I should think about it. Even just the wedges and driver would make a difference.
Great review, and playing with confidence and a smile. 6 iron out of the bunker, stuff of dreams. Spot on Rick.
I honestly didn't know that kirkland signature had that many clubs. I do feel that if someone wanted to get into golf, these clubs would be of good value for them but also for people looking for a new set at a great price. Great video, Rick
The clubs worked great for you, you are just not used to them yet as this was a one shot test. Re-shaft the driver to your correct flex would make a big difference. This is an awesome video. I love these kind of tests.
Gen 2 wedges also now available in Costco uk 👍
Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
Really like these types of videos. Most people can't afford the high end premium clubs, and these clubs offers a great alternative (if they are available in your country, of course - so I'll have to wait).
Great video Rick. Just bought the wedges and are thrilled with them!
You were so relaxed in the vid Rick, it really helped you to play well. Having fun really helps! Good lesson for us all.
5 years ago, I was a non-golfer and started watching Rick's channel. Now I play, I'm so glad I found you channel Rick, cheers from the USA!
Amazing to see the performance of 'budget' clubs. Really is impressive to see them able to compete and offer similar benefits to more premium clubs.
The bunker shot was absolutely incredible.. love the way these clubs look. Now I just need my costco to get some in!
1:50 I'll tell you how they did it, Rick. Private labelling and marginally reduced corporate greed. They don't have to bear the costs of design, facilities, and machining of the clubs, some other company that is already making golf clubs does that for them, and they just change out the dies for different branding. Then, Costco chooses to make slightly less profit (the premium manufacturers are easily doubling their money on each set of clubs), and there you have it.
The thing that people need to understand is this type of corporate greed is widespread amongst all industries in every facet of our lives. Yes, inflation has cause prices to go up some, but the #1 factor making cost of goods increase at a rate exponentially greater than wages is CORPORATE GREED. How else would it be so common for companies to simultaneously boast about achieving record profits, while regularly refusing to give raises, hiring at poverty-level wages, running skeleton crews, and generally demanding more and more productivity from their employees?
Realistically the clubs probably cost $50 to make for the entire set. The rest is pre/post-production costs (R&D, buying the assembly line, shipping, advertising, etc)
Good post.
Government over spending caused the horrible inflation we are suffering. Trillions that will never be repaid. Endless tax payments destroying our kids futures.
@@markoliver630 Government handouts to the 1% and corporations. Call it out fully or don't call it out at all. Still waiting on trickle down economics. Any day now...
@markoliver630 You seem a touch misinformed. A) we aren't suffering inflation currently. The inflation already happened, which is to say inflation #s are back to normal, but the increased prices remain. B) A major contributing factor in the initial inflation was supply chain issues. Once COVID eased and those issues subsided, companies were caught in shareholder meetings bragging that the increased prices had increased profit, and they didn't think they had capped out how high they could take it. This was widespread, and is what the OP is referencing, and he's 100% correct. Yes, the tax cuts from Trump directly added a massive pile of debt on the country (Trump increased the debt 40% in 4 years), but it didn't directly impact inflation. What does directly impact inflation is a strong job market, so when the market came screaming back with record low unemployment, increased wages, and record job growth under Biden, it did exacerbate inflation for awhile.
leave those irons in the bag, maybe get a different shaft in the driver. you almost finished last in the regional Q, time to change things up.
the real question is can you play good golf?
As always, great content Rick, as you say, the only thing missing is the custom fit option.
Hey dude. Proud of your short game improvements. Really like Dan’s stuff. Saw some negative comments about it recently. Naw, dude. Huge progress.
You've played some great Golf with these clubs and I believe any solid player can play a good round with any set. Marketing is a thing. If you flush a 7-iron with the same clubs as a tour pro, it feels a lot more rewarding, even if the last ten were terrible. All it takes is one shot. Golfers are gullible. It comes down to whether or not you wanna show up to a course with a Kirkland set. To each their own. Great video!
I’ve had the wedges for a long time now. Two years I bet. And I will say for whatever reason I can really manipulate them and do different things. They are really solid.
Another fun video Rick! I've been keeping an eye on my local Costco to check these irons out but they've been sold out for months. I already have the putter (love) and the wedges.
I finally saw the driver at Costco the last time I went, but I've never seen any of the other clubs. I wish I knew about the wedge set before I got a gap/lob wedge this spring.
Great video Rick. It’s good to see there are some affordable option out there.
Great video as always, keep grinding Rick! Can Costco make a Kirkland Signature golf course, please.
14:19 Choosing a 4i over a D1 is wild in this situation. I would love to have such confidence in my low Irons.
I LOVE HitGolf!!! Thanks Rick!
Don't think they will ever often fitting - its simply not their market. But love seeing pricing come down for high quality clubs!
Do a Kirkland series and try and beat the scores to other rounds you have done with your pricier clubs (break 75 series scores for example as you are trying to shoot low anyway). Could shed light onto the question you raised in the video "are we paying too much for golf equipment?". Obviously the lack of custom fitting should be taken into account but we know that going into it.
Very good video and well played and the clubs look great value and performed very well
These clubs, and the overwhelming positive reviews I have seen, give me confidence of lower cost, high quality alternatives entering the market as the new club price bubble bursts.
Awesome review! Thanks for providing all of this awesome and informative content!
Break 75 with Costco… Blaming the tools just can’t be done anymore.
great reviews like usual! I'm now tempted to look into these clubs..
You played some great golf there, i reckon those irons would suit my golf play if was in my budget and sold in Australia
Gotta love the foot taps on the divot. 😂 Didn't realise that's all they needed.
Looks pretty good tbh also the balls are great!
Great video, love the look of these clubs, can’t wait for more content!
Great videos love the play thru and review
Clubs look pretty good. Thanks Rick.
With the space in Costco's stores you'd think they could invest a little on custom fit and reap the rewards - as would many a golfer looking for quality at value.
Always use Kirkland golf balls as can't stand losing a Pro V1 and I'm not good enough to tell the difference. Just shows you how much goes on marketing from the big brands.
Golf is 90% the person and 10% equipment.
Only just commenting now as only just seeing this video but I’ve been waiting for this since you first said you would do this video 👌🏼
I’ve been waiting for this for so long!! I love watching I rick
Watching this channel like watching your favorite sports team lose every single match only to win the last game of the season with their bench players. Rick needs to bag the game improvement clubs
Love Kirkland. Would love the driver to go with my Kirkland putter lol
I have the driver, pitching wedges and putter(and the 4 ply balls) and just shot the lowest score of my life, and I've been a Taylormade man for life. These golf clubs for the price are even a great buy into starting your bag, may not be brand name, but if they keep producing clubs like these their name will move up the leader board!!
came here for Kirkland. stayed for Rick's skills and the production quality. off the charts. subscribed
Thanks for such great content!
I’m definitely wanting to get the wedges but I’ve never seen them in store at my Costco.
I left my old clubs with my parents so I don't have to bring clubs to play with my dad. They're fitted but also 16 years old. I'd consider using these instead if they had some fairway woods or something
The results really weren't bad considering you can't custom fit those, very respectable score Rick.
Was hoping to hear about the glove a little more, great video though. Was looking forward to this one
It’s not the tools that makes you a good player, it’s you who makes you play the game good
Where are the clothes bought from Costco? You're rocking the Kirkland set, might as well wear the polos and shorts they have.
On a serious note though, love your content man!
Great video as always Rick
Some tough shot that over the tree’s 😮, good to see water avoided
Not bad at all Rick. Those irons are legit.
I'm seriously contemplating these irons.
Loving them clubs!
Lets see you play against Guy with Kirkland clubs❤
What a golf shot on the par 3
They look great. Still way better than I'd golf
Whatever camera you are using now. Spot on.
Actually any club fitter can bend the wedges for proper lies, they being carbon steel. Not sure about the irons. Shafts, well that gets expensive.
I could tell from the outset you were gonna score well. You did this a few years ago when you were playing not as great as you thought you should and you played at MWP and had a great day. It’s crazy what your psyche will do when you have a great expectations and comfortability. You always play better because all the pressure is off. Loved watching this video Rick. You seemed to truly enjoy yourself. Keep it coming
Of course we are paying to much for golf equipment… we buy new clubs when last years or even before for a 1/3 price would do. But that’s what we do lol
Nice video, good filming + editing!
Great video. A real pleasure to watch you play so freely. You only had a problem off the tee when you went after the big drives. I think with the right shaft on the driver you'd easily break par with these clubs. Well done Rick.
Great video Rick.
I was happy to see Rick with clubs that are not made for Pros only, clubs with a little bit of tolerance. He missed a couple of putts that could be in. I have the Kirkland wedges and gloves and I love them. Nice review Rick!
The shot from the bunker was incredible!
Really interesting to see the "cheaper" brands making really good clubs.
Hey Rick, It is so great that you review different price level clubs like Kirkland, and not just the top shelf labels. Enjoyed watching you play 9 holes with them. Cheers
I've been to so many Costco's here in USA and can't find them anywhere. I want to buy them so bad.
I love those irons but they’re never in stock!!!!
That tee shot where he ended up in the wrong fairway he was aiming that way..... Nothing to do with the shaft at all lol
They where able to mass produce and cut rnd cost
