      Not being a lawyer, it’s difficult to see how TM could be successful in the lawsuit. There are so many clubs out there that look like they were copied from other ones. Also, just because they are similar, they are not the same. The insert material is sure to be different, no speed slot, chrome vs brushed, tungsten weight positioning is slightly different, etc. You can certainly make an argument either way.
      The problem I have with the costs of equipment, is that it’s eventually going to hurt access to the game. Just 10 years ago, green fees, equipment, etc, were a whole lot more accessible. Today, overall costs of playing is moving this game back to an elite game. I doubt that’s what the businesses in golf really want. Golf will end up becoming an elite-only game again, like it was years ago. Not a good thing. I can’t even find a public course that costs less than $50 a round anymore. How are low or medium income kids going to get access to the game?

    I understand that TaylorMade is suing Costo - saying that Kirkland is a copy of their 790. I can't see a case here as there are so many hollow-bodied irons on the market featuring this design (that was developed by Wishon back in the early 1990's). Sour grapes if you ask me. Glad to see Costco bringing such good irons to market and helping to make golf more affordable. Great for those who can buy off-the-shelf, but unfortunately, I have to have custom made due to my height/arm length. Thanks for the review.

    • @josephhouguez3801
      @josephhouguez3801 3 месяца назад +2

      @@josephhouguez3801 I have seen these irons and the 790's cut up and compared on another site and they certainly were not the same looking internally. • @LegacyAirTech
      @LegacyAirTech 3 месяца назад +1

      TM isn’t suing Costco for making a hollow bodied iron, its for infringing on copyrights. Every brand has a hollow body iron design but they arent suing each other for doing it. Not the first time Costo tries to benefit from another brands design, and doesn’t sit well with me. The resale value of the Taylormade clubs will be much, much higher than Kirkland, so you won’t lose as much on your investment. I would also rather buy used top brand clubs than Kirkland. If Costco is just openly stealing designs, it wouldn’t surprise me if they are also paying reviewers to push their products.

    Thank you for your video. But let’s be pragmatic. The TM P 790 are amazingly good golf clubs. They built up this outstanding performance over years of improvement and development. Any other supplier has the opportunity to copy and paste. And if a player has a smaller budget he might go for the cheaper option. Myself, I bought the P 790 last year and they are worth the money. No doubt about that. TaylorMade is high quality and this has a price. But thank you so much for your motivation to promote the other golf clubs. 😊😊😊🇩🇪

    I just think its impressive that some out of the box clubs are performing so close to the custom fit clubs. I would be curious if you had the costco clubs re-shafted to your fit, how the numbers may change in comparison to the p790's. Would they actually pull ahead of the p790 if properly fit? Obviously the added cost of refitting them is unrealistic to their intended purpose, but would still be really interesting to see how their club heads fare on an apples to apples test.

    To be fair. I know they are similar... but I would make the argument that you would get similar results from many different club manufacturers. So what I take away from this is play the brands you like. If you like playing quality clubs and you don't care about brands. Play Costco clubs, or Tacoma's, or Stix, etc. I personally really liked PXG's (for really no particular reason other than I thought they looked cool) but didn't want to pay $1400. So I picked up a second hand set of lightly used last years model for $600. I'm very happy with them.

    Love it I need a set of Kirkland iron stuff shaft everything In golf is so expensive and a lot of times for no reason just like golf shirt are way more money than a shirt made out of the same material from another company that doesn’t advertise their shirt as a “Golf shirt “ is ridiculous you wanna grow the game and everything make things more affordable

    I want to buy these clubs, but how do I know if I would need regular or stiff? I am 5’8, 175 lbs and lift weights. I have only played for a couple of years and on a great day I can shoot a 90, so I am still not very good. Anyone have any tips on this? I have the Kirkland wedges and I love them.

    Also think resale. What will people pay for a used set of P790 compared to usedKirkland irons?

    I have the P790s, and oddly enough, my 7i has the most "jumpers". Sometimes the ball will go 200 yards when I average 165 with it.

    Thanks for the review Rick. HIT is great

    I actually think the Kirkland sound better, the p790 sounds a little higher pitched and a little more “hollow” while the Kirkland sounds that deeper and more dead sound, which suits my ear more

    Nice review Rick
    Basically physics is physics - you have a hard head hitting a small soft ball. The mass is the same, the lofts are much the same, the shaft length and dynamics are much the same, and the USGA R&A rules are there!, and in the end physics wins ..... but golfers still buy for 3 main reasons:
    (1) want to buy
    (2) need to buy
    (3) love to buy
    Golf brands including ours - Q Golf - all tell stories that are plausible and we golfers want a reason to buy 😁

    obviously the 'influenced by' part is in the hands of their legal teams but good to see clubs of a good quality at better price points for the average consumer

    Only for the most unforgiving chopper. Lol
    Shaft makes a big difference and the choice obviously. Grip and size even. Chop once or twice a month and go for it.
