Should do a series where someone takes you out and talks you through course management. Feel like it would massively help pre open qualifying. Just bombing driving every hole doesn’t seem to work all that well atm.
40:00 "Why I hit driver I'll never know." Yeah. This happens a LOT. No idea why you refuse to use 3 wood or a longer iron off the tee sometimes. Whether its a short par 4 or a troublesome par 5. Just take an extra shot to get to the green, and no doubt you'll yield better results and a lower score. Course management is key. Leave the ego at home.
6 over with the way that driver behaved isn’t bad at all. what would improve the break 75 series for me, is if Rick took himself to see Mr. Ian Fraser in Toronto for a full driver fitting. break 75 would become a cake walk
Please put in the description or in the front of video when this was filmed. We don’t know if this is Rick from last week or from 6 months ago or from one year ago. Thanks!
Would love to see Rick get a fitting with the TXG guys to really dial in his clubs. Also would be interesting to see a 5 wood instead of a 3 wood for Rick
Great club selection apart from that driver for me. I'd try out the ping max , same as your 3 wood as going by others trying it it's VERY forgiven and u get plenty distance from it unlike the previous 2 max models
Yes! He put the Wilson's CBs (you said MBs) in the BAG!!! Finally dude. Needs to ditch the Cobra though Rick, fact is you just cant hit it consistent enough. It KILLED your score man, fairways!! Even if you lose 20 yards mate. Your iron play set you up for those birdie chances today, really good (when you didnt hit it too clean). I agree the Driver is the issue my pal.
"I'm looking for more distance this year" - why Rick? It's obvious the issues in your game right now are chipping and consistency off the tee. It's painful watching you constantly struggle, fall way behind the ability level of other youtubers around you and then say your investing time into finding 20 yards in your drives... WHY?!?
100% right - more consistent straight hitting and a sharper short game is where so many strokes can be saved in Rick's game - distance isn't the issue.
I couldn't believe on his quadruple hole he was a couple of yards off the green with so much green to work with hitting it SO high in the air. Bring out the 9 iron and bump it to the hole for an easy shot saved.
It wasn’t that long ago when you use to pipe driver with a draw. Whenever we would talk about your game it was always complementary to your driving. Going with the Wilson theme I remember you loving the Dynapower in the test..
I see plenty of RUclips videos about course management, I wonder would it cross Rick's mind with hindsight to just play short of the bunker on the 6th , 3 Wood, 3 iron perhaps and have a wedge in. Even scratch golfers have to hit their Sunday best drive 336. Maybe I'm wrong , who knows
Glad that the HIT channel has been back. I was concerned for a while that it may be neglected after such a short rub. Keep it up! I'd love to see some wacky clubs tested there, maybe some wood putters vs modern putters, crazy club designs, and wild driver claims. Can't wait to see more!
Probably helps having a couple of folks with you on camera duty, one of whom can be down range when you tee off. There were a few shots in that round where most of us would never find the ball.
Too bad they seemed to be wrong…how did he average 0.55 putts? I didn’t count it but it must have been 1.55 surely? I enjoy Rick’s videos a lot but there are quite often errors with the graphics…
I respect the fact that you showed that 8. Would have been easy to not show the first tee shot or take an extra try at the bunker shot. For a 16 handicapper it feels good to know that even RICK SHIELS puts up a snowman every now and then.

I’ve always found it so weird that I can watch a video, see someone’s aim/line and say that it needs to be more left/right and be correct 80% of the time as a viewer. However on the course those reads turn to mud because it’s so hard to trust what you’ve read and it gets in the back of your mind and you push or pull, hit it short or long etc. I guess my point is (as someone who is NOT good at putting) is that it seems easy to read when you watch someone else do it but almost impossible trusting the read for yourself. We watch these videos and judge so much and the way they sometimes go probably make us feel a lot better about ourselves, but; we should all realise that this game is so difficult and watching and judging with no pressure is so much easier than even hitting a 5 footer with your friend, and, I love that it’s the same for everyone. Great video, thank you.
Respect for showing hole #6. I feel like there’s a couple major RUclips golf channels that take quite a bit of liberty with their lies, drops, and mishits (not naming names). I’m a bit of a Ping fan, so this may be a bit biased, but I think a couple of Ping clubs might be the answer for you. 1. The 10k max. Finch seems to love it. 2. Don’t laugh, but a Chipr might do you a world of good. You’ve got a lot of confidence with your putting off of the green, and the Chipr gives you more of a putting feel with just enough loft to get you over some rough areas. However, I know ego keeps the Chipr out of many bags, much like people choosing MBs when CBs might help them more. Regardless, I’m a terrible golfer anyways, so my opinion means nothing lol 😂 Always enjoy your videos Rick, keep up the great content!
Rick have been watching you for years now & one thing I realise is you make things very difficult for yourself. Shorter par 4s not needing to hit driver hit irons instead & keep it in play! The quad hole a great example! All the best bud love the videos 👌🏽
So true, I feel like he sees the birdie sauce animations while he is on the tee and then ends up hitting a bad shot and always trying to catch up from there making more silly shot choices.
Instead of increasing your swing speed for longer distance we need to focus on hitting the ball straight down the fairway and avoiding trouble. Course management so important one would think.
Come on Rick! As a pro golfer you know only too well that any MB's have to be struck out of the middle. Anything other than the middle and it aint gonna end well. Sure they look good, but you need either MC's or perhaps some hollow heads. Forgiveness is what you need, you rarely hit the middle. The 3 wood makes sense, Max. The driver makes no sense at all. Forget a Low Spin head get a Ping 10k in with a low spin shaft. It works for Pete. Your problem is you aint a scratch golfer now you are going to need help. It gives me no pleasure to say all this. I am 16.5 handicap i reckon i could give you a run for your money
What a wonderful hitter of long irons you are rick-kind of surprised you didn't go for the cb 2 iron-imagine your rollout and distance? Superb to see an accomplished golfer using wilson again, wilson are superb.
Love your vids Rick. Would you ever do a video with Pete Cowen? I feel like it would be super entertaining and I'd love to hear what he thinks of your swing
The comedic genius of the content script writers is absolutely brilliant. Unmatched. I got a gorgeous Taylormade driver here. I am really going to enjoy hitting hit. "Fooore right" as guests desperately scramble for shelter. 😊
I’m glad you called it out on the 17th, I’ve been wondering for a while how in a year where taylormade and ping have made such amazing forgiving drivers how you could go anywhere but those two brands
I'm not hitting my woods well at all. I shot a 54 for 9 holes then left the woods at home and shot a 41 and 44 respectively in the next two 9 hole games using 6 iron (my longest iron) currently in the bag. Typically straight, straight, lob/pitch onto the green and one or two puts. I now think I should put 4/5 and maybe a driving iron into the bag for those days when the woods just don't cooperate. Build an arsenal of clubs rather than just your traditional setup.
Having recently watched Bryson DeChambeau playing with "a Kids Starter Set" and also his "3 club challenge" against yourself. Reminded me of what an old pro said to me over 30 years ago when I was thinking of spending a lot of money on new clubs. "You do know that that little white ball, has absolutely no idea what your about to hit it up the backside with, don't you"
Great production; I dig the stat share after 9 holes. Rick, remember we love you for so much more than the score you shoot. Cheers from Jaxon Golf Shop in Somerville, MA.
I think we need to see what happens if Rick committed 6 months to a full set of fitted Ping G430 Max’s with some Cleveland CBX wedges. Is it truth or myth that better players play worse with them?
Your mental game has really improved Rick! Staying focused and optimistic enough to make three birdies in quick succession after a quad - might not have happened only a few years ago. Very much an inspiration for those bad holes we all get during a round!
Great video Rick, regarding the 3 wood situation. I was the same as you in struggling a little to get consistently so I trialed out the Ping Max 5 wood with a 3 woods shaft, didn't sacrifice much distance off the tee and much easier to hit off the fairway. Never looked back, love that club now.
Bro there ain’t no way Rick is finding all these shots in the weeds. That stuff is thick with tons of bushes and he somehow finds it every single time? No way
Nice to see wilson being used I have wilson blades made me learn to play better as I didnt want hit them bad XD but i love the clubs so much, I have the dynapower driver which i enjoy too
Dude just put up a 78 with a quad on his card, with new sticks and absolute shite weather. If you noticed, his cameramen were bundled up! Rick, Once you dial these in, you're gonna have a new series, Break 70!
Something I have found , you are better hitting fairway at the cost of going crazy for distance, there's no point being longer if your then losing a shot trying to get out of trouble . Also testing driver on course is far more important than on simulator, on simulator there's no consequences to the shots , on course playing a casual, handicap or competition is where it counts and we're your find out if your swing under pressure works with the club . And with the putter if you've had a fitting then don't go changing how you grip it , as it will then defeat the point of the fitting .
Honestly. I hate to see you with the Cobra Darkspeed. I dont remember a single break 75 with the Cobra driver ever beeing good. I love to see you golf. But the Cobra just isnt for you (when looking at the evidence of holes with the driver. I think it would be so mutch better for you to use a driver that has loads of spins who helps you find the fairways more. Again who am I to say sutch things, I am just a fan.
I had the Cobra “dog” speed for about a week. Bliddy awful club to keep in the fairway and I’m a 3 hcap. Now went to the 2024 Burner mini driver never looked back since.
As always, love the content. I really do think you need to switch drivers; I haven’t seen you hit that Darkspeed with any kind of consistency since you put it in the bag.
Theres a video from about 3 years ago when he remembered how to play and stuck with what he knows, he shot a 72, since then hes yet to make an up and down or better a 95
I agree with you on driver. Seems like you don't have a predictable shape with it. It can go both ways. Your 3-wood strikes seemed great, and consistent. May just need a fitting.
Good to see the Wilson irons in the bag. One thought here......is it acceptable to go to another RUclips golf content provider for help? If so, Rick I think you need to watch Golf Sidekick for how to manage a course and play your shots to score better. No shame, he has amazing content. Very funny, very relatable and extremely valuable.
Your ball seems to sit up in the rough a suspicious amount. Very sus on hole 15 where it looked like it rolled back a bit when u were talking...almost like you placed it there 🤔
Rick, I so feel for you mate. Played my club course last week and played so well on front nine. Bogeyed the tenth then on the par 3 eleventh I came off with a nine. Card completely wrecked.
Correction Rick. You are playing the CB irons, not MB. Wilson do not make a Staff Model MB, only Staff Model blades and Staff Model cavity back. And those are definitely not the blades ☺
Rick go take some lessons. The driving is all over the place. The chipping is always short. Putts are left way to short. You could drop 5 shots on your score if you just get it in that 3 ft circle.
Darren, I went from a 10 handicap to 5 just working on my chipping and putting i putt 3 times a week for a hour and it had made a huge difference. I play in Texas
Lessons aren’t always the quick fix. You can have all the lessons in the world but it takes time to implement. He’s had many lessons over the years from the world’s best coaches. Eradicating mistakes is the problem which is probably down to mental errors.
You have to work and the things that lower score I only drive the ball 250 that's because I use a 3 iron off the tee but it striped. Hitting from the fairway makes a big difference
@@markbrown-bk1lr 💯 he said he wants more speed? Why? His issue isn’t lack of distance. It’s inconsistency. He may be working on other things too but keeping the ball in play is top of my list. I put a utility 3 iron in my bag. Hit my lowest round of the year by just keeping it in play. Also doesn’t help that Rick changes clubs and does reviews etc. It must play havoc with your feel.
Your new driver isn't the issue, it is the new Driver Swing. I notice in this new swing, your takeaway is far more outside. Since your stock shot is a draw swing, it seems you are fighting the club, trying not to loop it at the top to come down inside or trying to avoid turning the hands over at the bottom. Either way, it is forcing the club face to stay open resulting in a push to the right. I'm no swing guru, but it just seemed pretty obvious to me. YMMV. If you've not read the book or tried the Tour Tempo app, I highly recommend researching the idea that all really good golfers swing on some form of a 3 to 1 tempo. 3 beats from takeaway to the top, 1 beat from the change of direction to contact, all great golfers swing on the same 27/9, 24/8, or 21/7 tempo/rhythm. For the short game, it is 2 to 1, which might help you specifically. This tour tempo revelation is among the greatest golf suggestions I have ever received and I do not say that lightly.

And then to finish off he needs to send it in a rocket, or shove it in a woodchipper or something big, ostentatious and epic!
Great idea!
Lose the Darkspeed and put the G430 10K in the bag. The only distance you’re gaining is hitting it further into trouble.

Should do a series where someone takes you out and talks you through course management. Feel like it would massively help pre open qualifying. Just bombing driving every hole doesn’t seem to work all that well atm.
Love how positive you are with yourself now, hard work paying off 👍🏼
21:59 John Rahm made an 8 and still won the masters!!! Pick your head up and keep trucking!!!
Great mindset, gotta remind myself of this too.
Yeah because his game is as good as rahms 🤦♂️
No he didn’t. He made a 6 on his 1st hole the year he won. Maybe that’s what your thinking of
You mean at some point in his career? ESPN shows nothing higher than two 6’s (bogey, double bogey) when he won the 2023 Masters.
No golfer in history has said, “my contact was superb” after a greenside chip shot that you leave 15 foot short.
43:05 in the vid
Have to say that the addition of the GUR sign in the bag worked wonders today
🤣😂🤣😂
Just needs to add a red stake to his bag to cut a few more shots off the scorecard 😂😂#noO.O.B.again🥳
33:00 the person in the bunker. We've all been there 😂
Love to see Wilson gear out there finally! Getting the respect they deserve 👍🏼
Rick stop being ridiculous, put old bluey back in the bag.
Lmao
My Friday is complete ! Time to enjoy rick breaking 75!!
Bad news for ya mate 😂
First time on this channel?
6 over with the way that driver behaved isn’t bad at all. what would improve the break 75 series for me, is if Rick took himself to see Mr. Ian Fraser in Toronto for a full driver fitting. break 75 would become a cake walk
There isn't a driver on the planet that can salvage some of those swings
States "I'm going to chip more this round." Proceeds to putt from off the green on the first two holes.
Agreed, his chipping is better than his putting sometimes. Look at that chip he did with Ruffels
100% was the right choice when he mentioned it. Too much risk chipping that much downhill.
@@blue24563 not on the second hole it wasn’t at all
Break 75 is by far my favourite golf content online. I'm 66 years old, been playing 3 years and would LOVE to challenge Rick around my home course.
Please put in the description or in the front of video when this was filmed. We don’t know if this is Rick from last week or from 6 months ago or from one year ago. Thanks!
Its from somtime this week, break 75 somtime between May 13th - 16th posed an hour ago.
You're welcome.
You can tell by Ricks attitude towards bad shots. Angry Rick = 6 months ago, Positive Rick = recent
If you have to ask this question your not a fan just shut up and enjoy the video
The new clubs are a clue
@@mikebravo3527is this a guess or are you on Rick’s staff? I believe you, just curious. Thanks!
Would love to see Rick get a fitting with the TXG guys to really dial in his clubs. Also would be interesting to see a 5 wood instead of a 3 wood for Rick
If he does, I’ll be the first hand up to take the Staff CB’s off his hands! They are absolutely mint
Great club selection apart from that driver for me. I'd try out the ping max , same as your 3 wood as going by others trying it it's VERY forgiven and u get plenty distance from it unlike the previous 2 max models
I was think they were bad choices. The clubs r good but there r much better options
Hes had problems with the driver for a while, inconsistent with the darkspeed for sure
Agree, the10k Ping might be a good choice. I would love to know what your fairways hit stat is.
WHY?!?
His clubbing is often miles away too.
@@Lamster66No way he’s a teaching pro
Glad that the HIT channel has been back. I was concerned for a while that it may be neglected after such a short rub. Keep it up! I'd love to see some wacky clubs tested there, maybe some wood putters vs modern putters, crazy club designs, and wild driver claims. Can't wait to see more!
How does anyone find their ball in that kind of rough (hole 18)?? I've lost them in the second cut off the green.
Probably helps having a couple of folks with you on camera duty, one of whom can be down range when you tee off. There were a few shots in that round where most of us would never find the ball.
Have you had that putter re powdercoated??
It looks brand new again with no rust marks or white blemishes.
Liked the stats graphics halfway through, really good insight! Great vid as always!!
Would’ve been good to update the stats for the full round too.
Too bad they seemed to be wrong…how did he average 0.55 putts? I didn’t count it but it must have been 1.55 surely?
I enjoy Rick’s videos a lot but there are quite often errors with the graphics…
Ditch that Cobra, Rick, Hit the Ping straight and save all those strokes. Speed isn't everything. Great content!!
I respect the fact that you showed that 8. Would have been easy to not show the first tee shot or take an extra try at the bunker shot. For a 16 handicapper it feels good to know that even RICK SHIELS puts up a snowman every now and then.
15:15 For a moment, I thought you were gonna grab the putter... 🤣
I already commented, but after reading some of the comments what's wrong with people? The negativity is crazy. No lie, this man literally helped some of us get through a GLOBAL PANDEMIC with his content. How soon we forget. If you don't like him, don't watch, but don't just come here to be negative. I know all the views and comments help him, but damn.
Keyboard gangsters.
Keep grinding Ricky! You're appreciated in my household!
Well said.
I agree. Bunch of haters
@@stabilis8895 he broke 60 at Augusta, and Bay Hill. I’d say he is darned decent.
@@stabilis8895 Rick was on fire! Not sure if they were course records, and it wasn’t a sanctioned PGA event, it he lit it up those rounds.
@@stabilis8895 no I’m joking. I agree with what Robert says, and Rick seems like a decent guy, although wish he wouldn’t swear. As for ego, yes I will agree with you there, and too many times it has him making bad choices. He played great withose Elevens,…why would the put those in the bag, and go back to his old ping driver…ego?….maybe. Have fun and enjoy your golf game sir👍
Regardless, I’m a terrible golfer anyways, so my opinion means nothing lol 😂
Always enjoy your videos Rick, keep up the great content!
Side* * * *
Finch also quit the Cobra and switched to the Ping G430 Max 10K.
Not fan that driver what point of the extra distance if its costing you shots
Rick have been watching you for years now & one thing I realise is you make things very difficult for yourself. Shorter par 4s not needing to hit driver hit irons instead & keep it in play! The quad hole a great example! All the best bud love the videos 👌🏽
Thought exactly the same thing. Course management
I am loving the look of the new Wilson’s.
Your transparency on these videos is so fresh, love this type of content.
Well said.
His irons are MCs. They are literally called Staff Model CB.
He was mistaken when he said MB’s. His are CB’s.
What a wonderful hitter of long irons you are rick-kind of surprised you didn't go for the cb 2 iron-imagine your rollout and distance? Superb to see an accomplished golfer using wilson again, wilson are superb.
You reviewed dark speed as least consistent. Why did you go with it? I figured it be ping g430 or Qi10
Switched to a TSR2, lost 3mph club head speed, but wayyy more consistent. Highly recommend the TSR line if you’re looking for a different driver
Love your vids Rick. Would you ever do a video with Pete Cowen? I feel like it would be super entertaining and I'd love to hear what he thinks of your swing
140 yard sand wedge showed how strong the wind was Rick. I believe you normally hit that club about ~105 yds. As always, thanks for keeping it REAL.
Hey Rick you said you had the "Wilson Staff MB irons" but those lol like the CB irons? 🤔
I wish I read this comment before commenting the exactly same thing.
The comedic genius of the content script writers is absolutely brilliant. Unmatched. I got a gorgeous Taylormade driver here. I am really going to enjoy hitting hit. "Fooore right" as guests desperately scramble for shelter. 😊
Can't wait for 49 minutes of Rick blaming the club after every ropey shot😂😂😂.
You’re in for a treat then mate
I’m glad you called it out on the 17th, I’ve been wondering for a while how in a year where taylormade and ping have made such amazing forgiving drivers how you could go anywhere but those two brands
Rick- Good drive needed.
*Also Rick- I'm going to hit this as hard as I can.
"You do know that that little white ball, has absolutely no idea what your about to hit it up the backside with, don't you"
as much as I like the guests and even Guy on break 75s, its nice to have just Rick sometimes and here him talk thru his game a little more
All the gear, but no idea.
Wonder if Rick named his new putter “old rusty” 😂
would love to see a video where you discuss how you choose the specs and shafts of all your new clubs! thanks for the great content!
It’s crazy how he manages to find all those shots deep in to no man’s land and all playable 🤔😂
are you a golfer ?
Great video Rick, regarding the 3 wood situation. I was the same as you in struggling a little to get consistently so I trialed out the Ping Max 5 wood with a 3 woods shaft, didn't sacrifice much distance off the tee and much easier to hit off the fairway. Never looked back, love that club now.
Bro there ain’t no way Rick is finding all these shots in the weeds. That stuff is thick with tons of bushes and he somehow finds it every single time? No way
Don't forget he's got a crew with him, watching and filming every ball
Driver wedge on a par 5 is awesome! Sweet 330 yard drive, distance does not seem to be a problem Rick!
He claims he had a swing change but I don’t see it. Needs to take some notes from Grant Horvat on tempo….
Nice to see wilson being used
I have wilson blades made me learn to play better as I didnt want hit them bad XD but i love the clubs so much, I have the dynapower driver which i enjoy too
Dude just put up a 78 with a quad on his card, with new sticks and absolute shite weather.
Quote from Linford Christie: It not the shoes, it’s the man.
Rick. Get the Ping 10k in the bag. Super forgiving and manages spin very well for higher club head speeds
So true
I had the Cobra “dog” speed for about a week. Bliddy awful club to keep in the fairway and I’m a 3 hcap. Now went to the 2024 Burner mini driver never looked back since.
I love that he’s wearing the Cabot hat! Still astonished you come down to my little town and golfed that course!
Is the wind with us in the room right now?
As always, love the content. I really do think you need to switch drivers; I haven’t seen you hit that Darkspeed with any kind of consistency since you put it in the bag.
I was trying to think when have I seen Rick play a good game. All the tech and clubs... but
Theres a video from about 3 years ago when he remembered how to play and stuck with what he knows, he shot a 72, since then hes yet to make an up and down or better a 95
I agree. I started watching Rick years ago for his coaching and tips but it now seems he needs to watch his own early videos.
I agree with you on driver. Seems like you don't have a predictable shape with it. It can go both ways. Your 3-wood strikes seemed great, and consistent. May just need a fitting.
11:40 into this and it's actually painful to watch....
Those irons make absolutely 0 sense for Rick
It's England in spring time. The fact that you are outdoors is an achievement in itself.
Your ball seems to sit up in the rough a suspicious amount. Very sus on hole 15 where it looked like it rolled back a bit when u were talking...almost like you placed it there 🤔
Lol and even if he did, I'd like to see you make the shots he is making in the video.
Most people not playing in an official tournament will play with optimal placement within a club length.
Rick, I so feel for you mate. Played my club course last week and played so well on front nine. Bogeyed the tenth then on the par 3 eleventh I came off with a nine. Card completely wrecked.
"Can I Break 75 with my NEW GOLF CLUBS!" ...what you playing only nine holes?
Correction Rick. You are playing the CB irons, not MB. Wilson do not make a Staff Model MB, only Staff Model blades and Staff Model cavity back. And those are definitely not the blades ☺
Rick go take some lessons. The driving is all over the place. The chipping is always short. Putts are left way to short. You could drop 5 shots on your score if you just get it in that 3 ft circle.
Darren, I went from a 10 handicap to 5 just working on my chipping and putting i putt 3 times a week for a hour and it had made a huge difference. I play in Texas
You’re acting like it isn’t a 2 club wind you can only be so precise and it can even change how a ball rolls.
Great finish. Take that 8 into consideration. Like the way you evaluated your clubs
after the round and yes you let your driver down.
That putter is worth more than my truck.... wtf is life
Watching Rick count his 8 is why amateur golfers love these videos😂💪
Ricks terrible 😁👍it’s great to watch!
