Best golf ball review I have seen and unbiased analytical approach
Thanks, appreciate you taking the time to feedback. 👍
Thanks. Now I can be more picky about what golf balls I find in the bushes.
lol, pretty much what I was thinking 😂 I keep most of the finder's keeper's for hazard shot's but it's a real good way to try out different ball's 🤪🇺🇲
@@douglasedward4041 that is hilarious my friend
Probably the most informative ball test I’ve ever seen! Thank you for doing this and also for mentioning that the balls that are not the most accurate are designed that way for higher skilled players 👍
So glad you think so. Thanks so much for the feedback, really appreciate you taking time. #TrebleWinners
What a tremendous amount of well researched data.
@@user-sw2ob4iw1m Appreciate the feedback, thanks. 👍
They make them like that so you lose more balls so then you will have to buy more.
Former club pro here. I've gone back and forth between the prov1x and tp5x. I recently put the maxfli tour x into play. I swear it's longer and just as good around the greens. This test confirms this.
Thanks for your input, agreed the Maxfli Tour X is a very solid choice.
I heard one thing loud and clear, WILSON.
wilson staff balls were my favorite about 10 years ago but they were hard to find.. now everyone carries them so i may check them out again.
@@tylerfj24 they are on Wilson website right now but 2 dozen get 1 dozen free. Free shipping
I play Wilson Chaos
Fantastic test and great explanation of the results. Great to see wilson staff and maxfli get the credit they deserve. Only wish the Vice line was included
Thanks so much for the feedback, really appreciate you taking the time. Like we mentioned it's not possible to include every ball, perhaps we could do something similar with just DTC balls in the future....watch this space.
@@todaysgolferI'd love to see that test of the DTC balls. Of course, including a benchmark retailer ball in it would be sweeter.
@@MBTK11 That's the plan JP. 👍
For DTC comparison please make sure Snell balls are included
Will see what we can do @@cameronloveless1751
The Wilson Triad stands out to me as an incredible deal given the test results... Standing toe to toe with the Pro V1 in pretty much all tests but is $23 CAD cheaper here in Canada per dozen. Might have just found my new gamer ball.
Thanks for your input Enzy.
I've been using AD333 for about 2 years, happy with your tests.
Also interesting about the Kirkland spin, i hit one of the tee and felt like it just fell out of the air once it reached peak height
I played the Triad last two season (2022, 2023) was very satisfied with its performance. Bought a deal with the Staff Model 2023 and am playing them now in 2024, am very pleased! Mid handicapper, senior, good distance, spin, and flight! Using PXG 0211 XCor2 irons, Cleveland hybrids and Cobra Fly Z driver.
What an outstanding review, Simon, thank you so much! I couldn’t be more impressed with your comprehensiveness, thoughtfulness and fairness. Kudos!!!
Thank you so much for saying so Patrick, very much appreciate you taking the time to feedback.
Fantastic ! Thank you 😊
Congratulations, the best golf ball test I’ve seen. It’s obvious a lot of work went into this test. Keep up giving us these informative videos.
Thanks for taking the time to say so, appreciate your feedback.
Wilson & Maxfli really made an impressive showing!
Absolutely, we didn't see that coming!!!
Found a Wilson Triad a few weeks back and played it. Got my 5th hole in one with it (and won a lot of money). It is straight because they use more weight on the peremiter of the core instead of the center.
@@keithpanco so that possibly makes them less playable left to right
@@brett7011 I believe that was the intention. They advertise it as a ball for those seeking to break 80. If you can't break 80, you don't need the ability to shape the ball.
Great stuff guys, thank you.
Wow. That's the most extensive and informative test I have seen regarding golf balls. This video proves that a golf ball fitting is important and that playing the same ball all the time helps your game. Thank you for spending the time doing this. It opened my eyes 👍
Thanks for your feedback Richard, appreciate you taking the time.
Awesome stuff Simon and crew, thanks !
Glad you enjoyed it
Great review Simon, thank you! I live in the US and have started playing the Maxfli Tour S. It’s a a little bit softer than the Maxfli Tour and Tour X, but provides plenty of distance and spin for someone w/ average to slightly above average swing speed. Really good value at only $40/dozen.
Thanks for your input Brian, appreciate you taking the time.
Thank you for a fantastic comprehensive test and review of your data. The presentation of data is digestible and I'm now looking at checking out seceral options in the course!
I'm also sharing and recommending this video to friends and groups. Congrats!
Thanks so much Mark, glad we could help.
Absolute legend of a video. Really appreciate the time, effort and attention to detail 🙏🙏🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
wow kudos to all involved in this. amazing analysis
Thanks so much for taking the time to say so, appreciate the feedback.
I got exhausted only watching that. Hats off to all involved. The effort generated great data and lead to wise interpretation.
Thank you so much for taking the time to say so, it was a journey but we loved every minute! Really appreciate your feedback.
Again... outstanding work. I keep coming back to thus for the data. One thing I am sure of, is I will be getting sone Triads when I get back hone in a few weeks
Thanks, really appreciate the feedback.
Great video Simon! Cheers to your team in putting all this data together. This seems to be a much more balanced review than some of the ones here in the states that seem to be more brand bias.
Thanks of taking the time to say so Neal, appreciate the feedback.
That's an understatement. So refreshing to see a video that doesn't automatically assume ProV1 is the best and that there is absolutely no reason to ever even consider a 2 piece ball.
Well done Simon,, that makes choosing the right golf ball easier, excellent work!!
Pleasure, just glad we can help us and you understand golf equipment just a little bit more.
This takes information to a whole new level. love the findings and really keen to test for myself. Been a 7HC for a while but with age and diseased bones catching up fast i thing the review on the slower ball speeds will help me no end. Thank you and the team for your diligence. Great content.
Thanks so much for saying so Tim, appreciate the feedback.
Great work, thank you for your efforts!
Thanks for taking the time to say so Ryan, appreciate you feeding back.
Brilliant work! Thank you
Thanks for the feedback Bradley, appreciate you taking the time.
Staggering analysis. Thanks!

this is great investigation and data analysis. Extremely informative!!
Thanks for taking the time to say so.
Great video, great information and very well presented.
Thanks so much for taking the time to say so Anton, really appreciate your feedback.
I just love these data dumps.... definitely another production that must be watched multiple times.... very informative you guys are awesome....
Honestly Des, you have no idea how much time it takes to create all this stuff, but we love it just as much as you.
Thanks so much for your feedback #Respect
Fantastic.
What a test. Well done. I have some of the top performers for my speed just from personal experience but my favorite is still the Volvik S3 orange. It's like an orange Pro V1. Very easy to spot from everyone else's golf ball.
Thanks for your input. 👍
Simply outstanding, the accuracy/dispersion inclusion is very helpful. Given that we are putting these balls 36 times a round, more or less 🫤 any overall comments on how 2,3,4,5 piece balls react in putting? any favorites in that area? Thank you
Thanks Chris appreciate you taking the time to feedback. Putting isn't something we've looked at yet. Possibly next time.
A very thorough and informative review. I have looked at many of the ball reviews including My Golf Spy and this is the most comprehensive. In particular, I like how you categorize what works for the "Club" golfer. I have a few new ones to try. TY!
Thanks so much for saying so, appreciate you taking the time to feed back.
time stamps are awesome here
Got to appreciate the work that's gone into this. Well done, now off to digest the info and make a choice 👍
Thanks for saying so, enjoy digesting!
Huge amount of work, but what a wonderful resource for golfers. Big thank you!
Thanks Chester, really appreciate the feedback.
Very interesting and through analysis. I have not tried the Wilson Triad balls but after your report, I will surely give them a try.
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate you taking the time.
very interesting! Thanks!
Pleasure.
Great job.. Certainly opens up possibilities to try other options in the off season.
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it.
Great test - My gut feeling must be quite good.
Playing The three-winning balls (Wilson Staff Model is my number one, The Callaway Chrome Soft x is number two and the Taylor made is number three.) Mixing between them depending on the court. (My fourth alternative by the way is Titleist Pro v1x left dash) So fun to get confirmation that my feelings are pretty accurate.
Wow what a video, so much information. Great job!
Thanks for taking the time to say so, really appreciate your feedback.
At my low skill level I can’t fault the Wilson Duos or the AD333’s. Ultimately if it’s round and goes in the right direction I’ll use it.
The test methodology was excellent but I do think you need to add a senior statistician and as indicated below it would be helpful to measure the manufacturing quality control (ie is it round, is there any bias, are weights consistent) and at the end of the test cut up every golf ball to see if you can see differences in quality control.
As you said the data set for each type of ball is 12 shots with each club/speed combination. That is a relatively small data set and raises the issue of whether the differences between any 2 balls is statistically significant or merely by chance - and whilst I am not a fan of p- value tests, I am not a professional statistician, and you need someone with that skill set to determine the best statistical test applicable to each part of the data to determine whether differences in the data are statistically significant.
IMO when you look at the data some clear things emerge. There is no statistically significant differences in ball speed or launch angles no matter what club is being used and what swing speed with a couple of exceptions at the highest swing speed there are differences if, but only if, you compare the lowest compression ball against the highest compression.
Basically unless you have an extreme swing speed and are comparing extremes of compression, all golf balls irrespective of compression perform in terms of ball speed and launch angle the same - "soft is slow" is simply unsupportable by the data.
There are only 3 variables which show any clear differences: spin rates, peak height and accuracy. Accuracy may be linked to manufacturing quality control so as mentioned above that needs to be tested.
Titleist has traditionally had the best manufacturing QC but it is starting to look like Wilson are even better.
Great video! I’m going to consider Wilson and Maxfli next time I need some golf balls. I currently play the Vice Pro. I wish you could of added them to the test. Overall great job providing so much great information to us average golfers.
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
That is a fantastically informative presentation.
Thanks so much for taking the time to say so Warren, really appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic test!
Thanks so much for taking the time to say so.
Great video! I chuckled at your comment "You'll hit more balls into the green with your irons than your wedges" --oh how I wish. But then again you did say "into and not on to" the green
Thanks for the comment Dave. 👍
Been playing the Wilson Triad for about a year, they are very accurate. Absolutely love playing with them
Great to hear Greg, thanks for you input.
That’s funny, I’ve been playing with them and they’re not!😂. But nothing is!
Fantastic video and presentation of the data.
Thanks Pat, really appreciate your feedback.
I love a test video and I sat through all 54 minutes 🤓 I game the Tour Response (summer) and AD333 (winter) probably because I lose more in winter with the leafs on the ground but I think I will definitely try out the Wilson Triad and see if that works best for my summer game as my swing speed is around 85 mph but don’t get a lot of height from my mid to short irons.
Thanks guys
Thanks for the feedback Peter, great to hear you got something out of it.
Like most golfers we've read the magazines golf ball ratings. This video is really, really, really informative and helpful. Fore right!!
Thanks so much for taking the time to say so Robert, really appreciate your feedback.
Great review, fully data driven analysis with carefully selected way of measurement offering absolutely neutral results. Well done! Eye opening for me.
Thanks for taking the time to say so, much appreciated.
Wow. Awesome test design and great insightful explanation of the results. I am rethinking my choices now 🙂 Thank you
Great stuff, thanks for the feedback. 👍
Well done Simon ,a great piece of work!
Thanks so much for your feedback, feels like somebody deserves a holiday.
@@todaysgolfer I should think so after that a lot of work to provide really useful information to ordinary golfers. I have gone with the AD333 as my standard ball and stocked up on the TM RocketBallZ as a winter alternative
Excellent.
Very simply put, thanks so much. 👍
Great job.
Thanks, appreciate you saying so.
I very much enjoyed this review I am 59 and a 7 handicap i currently use the Wilson Staff , Callaway ERC , Vice Pro Soft , PXG Extreme and in the early spring late fall i use a two piece ball the Srixon softfeel or the Callaway supersoft nice to see i chose well i think your testing is just as good as Golfspy or better thx so much DTC balls comparison would be awesome again thx so much for this review every golfer could benefit from watching this cheers from Vulcan Canada
Thanks Golf Addict really appreciate you taking the time to feedback. We have a DTC version of this test planned in for this year.
Great all around ball test.
Glad you liked, thanks for your feedback.
Never had an issue with any Wilson ball... they are awesome
This info was great
Thanks so much for saying so Larry, appreciate you taking the time.
Excellent video and analysis. Appreciate that time meant that you could only test a certain number of golf ball models, it are you planning on doing something similar with the direct to consumer golf balls that are available such as Seed, Vice and Mynt etc.?
Thanks for taking the time to say so. We'd love to for sure. Obviously access would need to be negotiated and somebody needs to foot the bill, as costs run into the tens of thousands.
So Supersoft has:
- Lowest driver spin (and quite good carry)
- Tied steepest descent angle
- Decent, although on the lower half of these, wedge spin (and I would guess the descent angle is also quite steep there)
- An affordable price for someone who tends to lose balls...
Doesn't sound bad 🤔
Absolutely agree Garbox80.
For the full picture just don't forget to add in that, very low spin balls might not be the best option to optimise carry distance at the slowest swing speeds. Iron spin with the Supersoft was also just 54 RPM away from being joint lowest, which is 11.9% below the test average.
@@todaysgolfer Oh, yeah. With slower swing speeds the descent angle drops and with low spin, the ball won't stop easily, correct?
Didn't think about that as I have a decent swing speed. That combined with inconsistent hits, my bad shots are usually so far off that I don't even bother to go look for them 😂 (depends on the course obviously).
Played with a found Supersoft on Sunday and the greenside feel was nice, but with fast and firm green the ball wasn't easy to stop even though it pop's up high nicely. So I'd guess that the spin on those isn't that great either.
I so wish that we had Costco in Finland, or that I could buy those Kirklands somewhere else (without paying premium price with delivery and customs).
Fantastic! Looks like the ERC is what I’m gonna try. Tremendous information presented.
Thanks so much for taking the time to say so, much appreciated.
I will definitely try the Wilson balls after this extensive test. One thing you don’t have to worry about is marking your ball to determine if it is yours or not because they are Unicorn-like rare on the courses I play. In fact, I don’t think I have ever found a lost Wilson ball and I play ~50 rounds a year.
Great stuff.
Thank you so much to Simon and the whole crew for all the hard work in compiling all this data and putting it all together. I'm a 3 hcp and I love the new ERC Soft, the Supersoft, and the Tour Response.
Thanks so much for taking the time to say so Daniel, really appreciate the feedback.
Great to hear you've found your happy place when it comes to golf balls.
I am 61 and play senior shafts and I play the Soft Response. They have minimal spin and an adequate rollout.
That's another good one!@@theoakhills
Thank you Simon and The Loughborough University
Thanks for saying so.
The Triad and the Zip from Wilson are my two gamers! Maxfli Tours here in the USA do fly far! Thanks
thx for the in-depth analysis - I swing my driver about 85mph, yup im a hundred yrs old!
ive gravitated to - vice pro soft and the Srixon q star tour. and am enjoying them both.
the b rxs aint a bad choice every once in a while also.
im really getting used to those 3 for different applications, thats my game plan and it works for me.
Thanks for the feedback and your input, really appreciate you taking the time.
Great video. Unfortunate to not see any DTC balls tested, but completely understand based on your replies to that comment. Maybe you could add some test metric for durability as that can factor into value. Of course the ball might be lost well before that becomes an issue!
I have used the Wilson Triad and liked it a lot, it did however scuff up very easily and was pretty much done after two rounds.
Thanks for your input Bob, appreciate you taking the time.
No wonder I’ve been loving the Wilson Staff Model. Long, and workable off the tee, with phenomenal green side spin.
Interesting isn't it?
What an exhaustive analysis! Thank you!! I’m exhausted too but much wiser for it. I was pleasantly surprised and shocked as well. Thank you!!!
Great stuff, thanks for the feedback Chris. 👍
Fantastic video just like the first one please keep making them ⛳️
Thanks for your feedback, appreciate you taking the time.
Shame you used the old kirkland v2 balls and not the v3 balls from this year. Would love to see the new balls in a proper test as the balls have been shown to be different construction/materials on other channels and only the v3 balls are available to purchase now (at least in the US)
And also the Sugar golfball.
Ditto
Costco are still selling the V2 here in the UK. Fingers crossed for next year.
It’s a very poor copy of Pro V,always badly marked every round, but value if you change it a lot👍
Or, you could just steal range balls and get the same performance.
What a great test and breakdown Simon, thank you! I loved your 2019 test (still have it bookmarked in my browser) and am super thankful for the update! I do have one question, which might be a dumb one, but I am curious how "club golfer" is defined. I haven't heard that term much here in the U.S. Would that include mid-handicappers and/or mid-swing speeds? For instance, I'm a 10 hcp with driver speed of 100mph. I currently play the ProV1...but am seriously eyeballing the more modestly priced Triad and ERC Soft after your video and article. Thanks again for your time and talents in putting this all together!
Thanks so much for the feedback, really appreciate you taking the time.
Pretty much we see club golfer as anyone who's not playing to an elite level. In the UK we'd see that as County Level, handicap wise that means probably 5 and up. It takes in mid handicappesr, high handicappers and slow to quick (but not too fast) speeds.
Hope that helps.
great video, love the testing for those of us that can't!
Thanks so much for taking the time to say so. Much appreciated.
Wilson claims the Triad is a High MOI ball and it's nice your test confirms that. I've played it before and was pretty happy with it.
Great to hear, the results certainly opened our eyes.
this is so sick!'
Great review guys and I am a regular reader of your mag. Keep up the good work. With advancing years my swing speed has dropped below 90, more realistically mid 80's and while I have always used the Pro V1 I have been looking for what might give me best distance with overall performance. I have been trying the Tour Speed over the past few months but I don't see any reference to it in your tests and wonder why? I have to say I like the softer feel but on the downside note it marks quite easily, yet it seems to perform quite well.
Thanks for your feedback Bill, it's much appreciated.
There simply wasn't enough space to include every golf ball. Most frequently we hear the Pro V1 and Pro V1x names when golfers are talking Titleist golf balls, and the pair are seen very much as the benchmark that many are compared against. A fact much less true for the rest of the Titleist family. #HopefullyNextTime
Hope that helps.
Great review Simon! Impressive stats and some surprising top performers. Re: Ball Accuracy, what if the balls tested were not being hit by the middle (sweet spot) of the club, do you think that would affect in any way the top performers on the list?
Thanks Javier, appreciate you taking the time to say so. To be honest it's not something we've looked at, but would be interesting to explore if we can get back on a robot any time soon.
Best recent test I’ve found, amazing findings. Played PROV1x for years, I’m going to have to try the Kirkland signature and the Wilson plus some maxfli. Good stuff!
Thanks for the feedback, we're just conducting this years version of this test, expect an up to date version with a few weeks.
One heck of a review and what a treat for data/fitting geeks - only 220K views clearly shows most golfers overlook this aspect? My max swing speed now down to 94mph so will definitely be looking into "soft" balls.
Thanks for the feedback Barry, appreciate you taking the time.
This is extremely informative. I'm a firmer believer in the Kirkland Sig balls.
Thanks for your input Jimmy.
Bought a hodge podge of used balls when I started again last year. Always noticed I wasn’t losing Wilsons at the same rate as everything else. Thought I was crazy since Wilsons typically seen as lesser quality, thanks for confirming my findings 👍🏼
Thanks for your input.
FTR I bought 4 dozen Staff Models, and they are as advertised here. Probably the best ball I have ever used
Great to hear Drone, really appreciate you feeding back.
Fantastic video, thanks for all your efforts.
Thanks so much for saying so, appreciate you feeding back.
Fantastic work Simon and team, thank you for your efforts!
Question - Any thoughts on why the Callaway Chrome soft X LS shot area seems to jump from 20.4 to 114.9 Sq yds when upping the driver speed from 100 MPG to 115MPH. I was expecting the lower spin to correlate more with accuracy. It sort of gets a bit 'wild'.
Thanks all.
Thanks for the feedback Andrew, appreciate you taking the time.
We'd only be speculating, but a single ball with a slightly off centre core could have this effect.
Hence why we like to look at averages for accuracy and not focus too heavily into any particular single situation.
Hope that helps.
75mph swing speed guy here, really appreciate the lower speed test. bought a dozen green duosoft based on your numbers here. we'll see how they do!
Great stuff, let us know how they go.
How did they do?
Incredible work! Seen many best ball videos including MyGolf Spys independent review and this was superior. Was looking for the Titlesit Velocity as it continues to be the longest, even longer by a few yards than the Callaway Supersoft, for my 94 mph swing, but it lacks spin so Im going to try the Srixon QStar Tour based on your data. Thanks
Thanks for your feedback, very much appreciated.
Titliest Velocity continues to be my longest ball. Wilson is right up there
I’ve been using the maxfli
Tour recently. Best ball I’ve used for the price. Feels just as great as a ProV1 to me.
Great to hear.
Great Study Thanks. Kirkland has a V3 ball out. Is there any indication yet of how it would compare to the version (V2) you tested?
Thanks for the feedback. The Kirkland V3 hasn't hit our shores in the UK yet, when it does hopefully we can do something similar.
ERC,TP5 and E6 holf balls work best for my game, 105 driver speed,
Great test.
Thanks for the feedback and input John. 👍
Ok, I see a small issue
My Driver swing is 85 (83 to 86) but my 7 Irons is not 80, more like 76
The -5 MPH is not realistic with the much shorter club
Glad to see I play the right balls
I was glad to get data on the Driver Distance
I was sure it was my new clubs being shorter than my older clubs
but I see it is on target for the distance at my swing speed
This was very informative and well done. As you were limited in choice of what balls to test, Titleist has a ball the AVX that gives the best of ProV 1 and ProV1x , yes I’m a Titleist player, but have the R&A and the USGA contacted you about your results. Since the talk now is about rolling back the ball. As you stated the club golfer should be considered. As when they lose their Wilson or whatever ball and find a ProV they are going to play it until they lose that one also.
It's also ridiculously low spin which makes it quite a niche ball.
Thanks for your input.
Love a robot test! Let's see how my srixon z star do. I like the way they feel so I'll probably stick with them no matter what the test outcome. Still interesting to see the results though.
You and us both Alan, thanks for your input.
It would be great if you can take the data from each box of 12 balls and work out the average variance between balls in a box. The idea being which balls, in a dozen, perform the most equally from ball to ball. This is good to know as we may change our purchase if we know a certain brand/make will perform relatively the same from ball to ball.
I'm a scratch golfer and bought my 12 year old daughter some pinnacle rush golf balls. I decided to use one and let me tell you, they are long and I can spin them around the green. They also felt soft, I was dumbfounded :)
Thanks for your input.
Great video
Thanks for taking the time to say so Billy, appreciate the feedback.
Hmm, I haven't ever thought myself a "spinmeister", but this year I've been hitting some rather impressive land (hard, with gashing ball ball marks) and stop approach irons with the Callaway SuperSoft. I guess I now know why. Missile technology, apparently.
Thanks Leonard.
