    What if the Gerudo Heroines have nothing to do with the sages, but are instead the Gerudo women who gave birth to the sole king every 100 years (in effect saving the race from extinction)? The eighth could be Ganondorf’s mother, and was cast aside. The different attributes to each heroine could be arbitrary qualities they were known for when they were alive (to give some depth to Gerudo culture and values).

      its been 10,000 years since ganondorf existed in Oot. and nothing in zelda lore stated only 1 male exists every 100 years. It is that male birth rate is only once every 100 years. Male gerudo are rare, and more women are born.
      even the gerudo chick u free from ganon made the claim he was "supposedly" a gerudo. And looked down on that fact.

    • @mrturret01

      It's very possible that either the heroines are the mothers of particularly notable kings, the tradition ended with gannon, or that no males were born since gannon was born.

    I don’t know if anyone has said this yet, but in The Wind Waker in Hyrule Castle there are 9 pieces of stained glass. One of them showing te triforce and the other 8 each representing the sages from OOT. Ganon is on there too so I really believe Ganon is the eight heroine/sage.

      Charlot de Bruin I concur, really like this idea. Ganondorf was the leader of the Gerudo in OoT, so maybe construction of the heroine statues began while he was in power, and before the eighth was completed it was moved because Ganon was defeated?

    • @crimeslime5419
      @crimeslime5419 5 лет назад +17

      Yeah... both the Gerudo and the Yiga worship the heroines instead of the Goddess Hylia. And I do have a hunch that the Heriones are also Gerudo. And the 8th heroine is referred to as “She” but nobody really knows who they are, so it could just be an assumption the NPC has made since most of the Gerudo are female, but the 8th could actually be male.

      Midna was technically a shiekah I believe, since a few of them were interlopers, banished to the twilight realm. Which would make sense for the Yiga clan to keep that statue, representing the banished shiekah. But I don't see her being an 8th sage of that realm, as she exists in a separate realm. But it aaaaaalso would explain the statue being "banished" and the sage being wiped from history.

    I believe the 8 heroines/statues is a reference to Twinrova/Koume and Kotake. Koume and Kotake are named after the twin grandmothers in the detective novel "Village of the 8 Graves". In the story, 8 defeated samurai escape to a remote mountain village bringing with them gold. The 8 samurai are killed by the villagers wanting the gold. In response, the leader of the 8 samurai curses the village.
    So my thinking is that if the gerudo statues are the samurai, then the yiga clan would be the villagers and the 8th heroine statue itself is Twinrova. Twinrova is Koume and Kotake's combined form...and they were gerudo witches that raised Ganondorf in OoT. So if the yiga clan worships Ganon it stands to reason they would also worship the one(s) responsible for him. The kingdom exiling the shiekah thus creating the yiga clan could be in reference to the curse the leader of the 8 put on the villagers.
    As for the location of the statue, what if the 8th statue was actually the 1st statue they created (and the yiga hideout having been created before that as a place of worship) but during the process, they discovered Twinrova's involvement with Ganondorf and abandoned it in the middle of transporting the statue's sword. This would also explain why its existence was erased from history, because the kingdom and gerudo didn't want people to know that the gerudo had anything to do with Ganondorf.

    • @laurencehoskin5158
      @laurencehoskin5158 2 года назад

      Yes definitely true this explains everything. This theory must be true (this Is explanations)1. The sword might have came off because the yiga might have detached the sword so it's easier to get down the cliff but when it was down the sword rolled down the hill and the yiga went of and tried to get it and never came back 2.the sword cracked off from the statue when transporting down the cliff. This also explains why there is a box behind the statue this is probably because the yiga put it there to make sure the statue safe so it wouldn't fall over. If any people ask "but why don't we see tracks of a cart or something" well don't forget this is probably the 1st statue that was made also it's been 100 years since then so it would have disappeared. Also this explains why there is a cut in the mountain leading up to it because the yiga was transporting the statue so they would need space and the only way to do that is make a cut in the mountain. This theory can be ruined because why would they be transporting a statue? It's simply just ROCK. But on a side note this theory must be true.

  • @HikariMichi42
    @HikariMichi42 7 лет назад +123

    This is probably stating the obvious, but there's one thing you didn't bring up. It's especially clear if you look at the bird's eye view of the Seven Heroines shown on the game's map: You can see that while there are seven statues, there's a space between two of them that would be perfect for fitting an eighth in there. You could argue that this space is simply the entrance, but even if there was a statue blocking it you could easily pass between two of them to get in there. So this would point to the eighth statue originally being there but then being moved to the Gerudo Highlands.
    Additional points of interest:
    1. Of course, you only need to place seven orbs into their correct indentations. There is no eighth indentation at the location, and the eighth heroine does not appear to have her own symbol that could be matched to an additional orb. Although it is possible that her symbol was on the hilt of her sword and it has been smudged out with the passing of time.
    2. We have no idea how the Sheikah's construction of shrines worked, but when they built the one at the location, they must not have taken the eighth heroine into consideration. To make the shrine appear, they arranged it so the hero would need to place seven orbs into the indentations that corresponded to their statues, which may have included some collaboration with the Gerudo. This implies that the shrine was built after the eighth heroine was moved, and the Gerudo might have been aware of the statue being moved and didn't want it to be part of the puzzle. The Sheikah's involvement in this supports the statue's move being somehow related to the Yiga. And if your Ganondorf theory is correct, which I think sounds quite plausible, the eighth heroine lacking her own symbol would make sense since he never did become a sage. Maybe there were eight people who could become sages, but only seven did, and the one who didn't become one didn't get her own symbol and was moved. By the way, the Sheikah's construction of shrines and how it worked could be an interesting topic of discussion on its own.

    • @TheDeluche
      @TheDeluche 5 лет назад +3

      There's also more to the 8th heroine as well. It may not have a location to place any orb or it may not have any specific symbol but I just replayed botw and did the heroine quest again and at the base of the 8th there are some vents at the foot where blasts of air are able to propel link up if he uses the paraglider. There could be something more at the base of that statue. Maybe a pedestal for an orb or something else below (if nintendo wanted to add to the lore behind the 8th heroine).

  • @AbeM.
    @AbeM. 7 лет назад +106

    What if... It was a reference to Zelda 2...? That game had eight towns. All of the towns returned as important characters in Ocarina of Time (six of them as sages, one of them as the leader of the Kokiri, whose name is also casually reused for the divine beast of flight). Except for one, which was never ever referenced again, Kasuto. Which was curiously enough the only town that was twice in the map, since they had to rebuild it after Ganon attacked. So just like the eight heroine, Kasuto was fractured, divided, and forgotten by "Time".

    It really makes perfect sense to me that the 8th Heroine statue was created by the Yiga Clan as a way of worshipping and memorializing Ganondorf. They made the statue in the same style as the other 7 Heroine Statues which were built by the Gerudo. They could have also specifically made the 8th Heroine statue female just to piss off the Gerudo that much more. In that way, they are making Ganondorf an equal amongst the Gerudo heroines. Perhaps the Gerudo, on finding this out, tried to destroy the 8th statue. That would explain why the sword is in another place. Unfortunately, they wouldn't have been able to destroy the rest of it, as it's carved into the mountainside.

    • @darkenguyen7374
      @darkenguyen7374 6 лет назад +9

      Powerade600 it's incredibly far from their settlement and is right around the corner from the yiga clan hideout, so that could be a factor. The trek and climb is supposed to be very dangerous (from what Bozai says to Link), as well as being in a very cold region which the gerudo are probably not equipped for, so it'd make sense if a small group of gerudo warriors would be able to make it up there and mess around with the sword but don't have the energy to double around and mess up the rest of the statue before they get frostbite.

    • @LadyKhione
      @LadyKhione 6 лет назад +5

      While I see where you're coming from, remember that there are already 8 statues of similar make in the Yiga Clan Hideout which was formerly a place of the Gerudo (possibly for worship or as a sacred place). It's more likely that between the time that place in the highlands was made and the time the giant statues of the 7 were made that something happened that the Gerudo wanted to memorialize by changing the design from 8 statues together to 7 together and 1 apart. While I do like the theory of Midna, there are too many holes in any theory so far to make an assertion.

    While I've been watching videos on the mystery of the Eighth Heroine, I have the idea that it is Midna. It would explain why she is still worshiped by the Yiga if they are in any way related to the Twili and the separation of the Sheikah (if you go along that line of thought that the Twili were Sheikah who did not agree with the main group.) And with the statue being a "mirror" image representing the Mirror of Twilight and how she is trapped behind it. In a sense, she is "forgotten" and no longer one of the Eighth. It is a thought.

    Okay, so I don't mind a "heroine" being either a guy or a girl in gerudo culture; if you believe that the 7 are the sages from OOT, than you already have 1 guy in the mix (Darunia). The issue is if this is the downfall timeline, why would anybody commemorate Link, since he would have failed? I personally believe that the 8th heroine is Midna, from Twilight Princess. it is important to note a couple of distinct differences about the hidden statue and the rest. 1) it is call the "Statue of the 8th Heroine," not the Statue of the 8th Sage, so whoever this person is, she does not need to be a sage herself, but rather just related to them in some way. (since the other 7 were all together, let's assume they are the classic "sages" that we see in Zelda lore) 2) the statue's writing is reversed. This leads me to believe that this statue could be considered some type of mirror image, which I believe to be an homage to the Twilight Realm. That would make the 8th Heroine Midna herself, heroine of Twilight Princess who helped defeat Ganon and shattered the mirror connecting the two worlds, while the other sages are those who initially killed Gannondorf in that timeline., ridding the Gerudo of his rule. Her "sword" would be broken to represent the shattered Twilight Mirror (or possibly the broke Fused Shadow), and she is set apart from the sages because of her separation in the Twilight Realm.

    I understand the in-game reason behind reversing the statue and relocating it far away, I'm having a hard time understanding why the characters within the universe would go through the trouble of doing all that, or how. I think it's far more likely that the first eighth statue within the circle of statues was destroyed because of some betrayal, and the eighth located in the highlands was built long after, and intentionally reversed as some kind of refutation of either the other seven, or the rest of Hyrule as a whole. Similar to how people use upside-down crosses as a refutation towards Christianity. Since we've already seen the Yiga intentionally switch the Sheika symbol upside down, it would be consistent with the kind of symbolism they would do.
    Initially I assumed the eighth heroine might have been a Sheika, and the original statue was demolished when the King, in his paranoia, banished them. But then it wouldn't make sense that the Yiga would continue to worship something associated with the Sheika, who they've turned against. In this theory it would only make sense if that particular sage was already known for being against the old Sheika ways, or in some way held contrary belief systems that the Yiga could co-opt long after their death as a sort of early Yiga mindset. Idk...

    Take a minute to research the unfinished obelisk in norther Eqypt. An abandoned, giant stone sculpture that was left due to a mistake during its creation.
    like you said the 8th has the text flipped. it also is still not cut away from the background stone, which would have to be done before it was moved. maybe it was one that was left after it was carved incorrectly.

      It seems unlikely that they would have carved the statues elsewhere and moved them later. Simple shaped obilisks are one thing, but intricate statues are another. My guess is that the original eighth statue was destroyed and that the other was later built as a sign of defiance with it's back to the rest.

    Okay, so first of all people are telling me that the heroine isn't a guy, but let me remind you guys something:
    Gerudo look at men as "inferior" and the idea of someone as important as a sage being male would be unacceptable in their culture. So it wouldn't be surprising if over time, it changed from the seven sages to the seven heroines.

      That's a possibility but it does seem farfetched...like why would the hero of time be remembered by the Gerudo in the first place? Naboru was dead, that's clearly shown at the end of OOT, so the adult timeline should be out. If this is the child timeline then she likely didn't awaken as a sage at all because Link wasn't there to save her from the temple or because of link not getting involved she never got caught in the first place and just lived her life completely oblivious to being the next sage. We also have the old ghost men in TP who are probably the sages before the OOT sages, another sign that Naboro never awoke. If it's the downfall timeline then she is likely dead as well as it should be the same as what we saw in OOT except Link dies and Ganondorf is sealed with the full triforce.
      So anyway if she's dead I don't see her communicating with her people and if she's alive I don't see how she would know about the hero of time.

    Maybe the Eighth Heroine (bear with me) is Link’s Mother? Think about it: Farosh, the Dragon that represents Link’s part of the Triforce, doesn’t just stay in the Faron Region, but also goes to the Gerudo Region, where it lingers above the statue of the Eighth heroine for a while. We can also take things into account like the Gerudo patterns on Link’s arm-things. Also, we know that his dad served as a knight in Hyrule Castle, and are told that the Gerudo used to go to Hyrule Castle in order to find husbands. ALSO ALSO, in the BOTW 2 trailer, the Gerudo script above Ganondorf’s corpse is green, which represents Link and his part of the Triforce. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

    Hear me out NBC. Look at your map at the position of the seven heroines in the desert. Then look at the eighth. Take screen shots of both and cut out the eighth. You should find it fits perfectly in to complete the circle making 8 heroines. That's too big a coincidence in my opinion. And if I remember correctly about the inside of the yiga clan hideout, all the statues were nice and evenly spaced out as well. (Its late and the game is huge. And I trust my memory)
    Otherwise, love watching your theories. I'm glad that most of not all of your theories end with that mystery. That you have a theory and back it with TONS of potential evidence. Inferring some things based on general text from NPCs. You are doing awesome! Keep up the good work

    I think the 8th statue is a former sage that turned evil and was banished from being a sage and then formed the Yiga clan. The statue representing that sage was torn down and taken far from the others because the 7 remaining sages wanted no affiliation with (or memory of) the sage that became evil. That would explain a lot really such as why there are 8 statues in the Yiga Clans hideout for one and why the Yiga Clan are the only ones who still worship her

To me it seems more plausible that there were 7 gerudos that were top ranking and ganondorf would be the 8th (in charge, since he is the only male, and also a representative of their race). And then when he decides to take the triforce that is when the statue is removed (or in my opinion, built to remember the horrible deeds they have done, and to remember not to repeat history).

But, due to Vah Pihzah in the cold weather, the malice had froze and the divine beast had became neutral for the next 100 years. Though it may have a small size, its power is unbelievable. Hey, I have a theory but, I'm new to this channel as of today and well it may be quite ridiculous but, I'd like you to look into it because I have not been active with Zelda theory. What if we don't rule out the sages from Twilight Princess... It has been a while since I have played TP so please forgive me if any of my information is incorrect. Didn't the sages ban Ganondorf into the Twilight Realm and wasn't he considered a sage at some point? He could be the eighth sage that could have been banished. What if they considered Midna a sage that is linked with the Seven Heroines? Couldn't she take the roll of motion since she could control twilight matter? The more I think about this the more I want to believe this is true because the entrance to the Twilight Realm is in fact in the Gerudo Dessert... Coincidence? What if each heroine was linked to a tribe/race? Gerudo, Hylian, Sheika, Zora, Goron, Rito, and Twilight..... Maybe Ganondorf could have been the eighth since he is still worshiped in BOTW by the Yiga Clan. Maybe they accepted Midna as one if their own for taking control of the Twilight Realm and making sure that Ganondorf didn't gain any more power... Thoughts?

    8:35 i noticed there was no sage of time, and you had just said that many people believed that ZELDA was the sage of time.
    If you go back to one of your older videos, you stated that Link's champion ability was slowing down TIME. And, he also has time traveled in previous games, so he could be the 8th heroine. Also ( However this may seem very farfetched, just hear me out ) there is a chance that Link in Breath of the Wild is indeed left handed because ( I don't remember which Zelda theorist RUclipsr made this theory, I think it was Zeltik ) when Link parries he puts out like thousands of pounds of force to be able to parry and even set back a Lynel, and he ALSO carries his shield in his left hand. He can't even put out that much force with his sword hand. You mentioned in the video that it could be Link as the 8th heroine. This is just some supporting evidence. However the 8th heroine held the sword in its left hand, so that may not be it. Just trying to add something to this theory

  • @SteveNorwalt

    A few things to help support your theory:
    The statue being mirrored to be left handed is like how the entirety of _Twilight Princess_ is mirrored so that Link would swap hands.
    Then there's the way it's tucked away, resting in a completely different area as the other seven. Similar to how Link is often out of the loop with this whole "seven sages" thing until one of them explain it to him.
    I also think about the sword being torn away from it. Link has lost his sword at least twice, that I can think of right now. Once in OoT, during the climactic battle with Ganon, and in this game--when he loses, the sword is taken away for him to retrieve again when he's ready.

    One thing to remember in all of this is that the stories we know are legends. The stories are told to the in game people over time. It has been 10000+ since the other games. Heck it could even be 50000 years since four swords adventures and even longer for the other games.
    Many things could be lost in translation. Or mistranslated.
    You have to interpret much information instead of tying them together

    I don't have anything to back this up, all I have is just a small theory.
    The Eighth statue could be the birth mother of Ganon. Someone who was a proud warrior but ultimately was forgotten due to being shadowed by the fate of her son. The destiny Ganon faced and the Gerudo follow. The warrior tribe is proud people, the birth mother could have been shamed in the aspect of motherhood but respected as a warrior. The other statues could be those who raised Ganon or something to that tone.
    The reason for the Eighth Statue not having a sword could be intentional. A way of saying that no matter how powerful and great the mother might have been, the fact she birthed a 'disgrace' strained her reputation.

    I dont think Link was the forgotten hero in this game because everyone knew who he was 100 years prior. What if the Yiga clan built this as a tribute to Ganon because the Gerudo could not acknowledge him as a heroine? From BotW the yiga clan was created when calamity happened. Plus the design of the 8th statue looks different from the 7 statues as if it wasn't done by the Gerudos.

      Maybe he's not holding a sword because he's a bad guy or because he is beaten by Link (my opinion)

    i said this in the first video too but what IF the eighth heroine is actually the leader of the sages from lorule , the opposite of hyrule. that could be why everything is backwards on the one statue. could be why yuga was able to have 8 sages.
    this theory fits well with the identities of the sages from LBW

    My first impression of the Heroines is that it's a new type of ancient Gerudo lore being introduced in BOTW. I'm still amazed at how 10 000 years have passed in this game, so something could have happened during that time. I didn't think they were referring to the Sages because all eight are women and their symbols don't match up.

    Maybe the eighth heroine was chosen to protect the dungeon instead of being a part of the circle, but the creator(s) didn’t want to include a person who wasn’t going to be around the group at all and decided to tag them all as “Seven heroines” instead of including an eighth. Who knows? It’s just a theory....

    I think the reason the Yiga “worship” the eighth statue (being link, as you stated in the video) is because they want to kill him, that’s like, all they try to do in the game, also could be why they covered *all* of the statues including the eighth one (whichever that one may be)

    • @angelmendez-rivera351
      @angelmendez-rivera351 Год назад

      This makes no sense at all. I have no idea how you conclude that "wanting to kill" is an example of "worship," and this is just contradicting by the evidence, since it is explicitly stated multiple times that they worship Ganon. Since this is the only being they worship, this is the only possible identity of the 8th Heroine. The only alleged "flaw" with this is that the hideout does include 8 statues. However, this is not a valid counterargument: this objection assumes that the statues in the hideout indeed correspond to that of the heroines, but there is literally no evidence for that. This is just an assumption that NBC that went unchallenged.

    8th heroine hiding a dungeon? Or maybe a cave, which holds carvings of a secret history, the prison for a certain gerudo that the yiga would honor... maybe it covers ganondorf's prison from the sequel trailer

    I got 3 theorys: the 8th heroine is link, all the 8 heroines fought against ganon 100 years ago witch means link slept for 100 years to recover witch means he was forgotten.
    Theory 2: it possibly could be that dlc boss from that motorcycle, becouse he was the owner and the creator of the temples and towers and the sheika plate wich means he could be the 8th heroine becouse he was so strong, but during the fight with ganon he lost power and fainted, forgotten
    Theory 3: the 8th heroing could be midna becouse during the fight with ganon the broke het crown thing witch means she faints, forgotten
    Edit: I know this is trash theorys but thats just what im thinking
