Presumably as Overworld and Level Enemies they can function as a sort of siege against any trade coming to or from Castle Town and as a force to try and claim the Fused Shadows or stop Link and Midna, but that’s Zant’s End; not the Bublins’ or why villagers got abducted at all only to be abandoned. darknut: im the best mini boss! igos du ikana: hold my beer. dark link: hold MY beer. iron knuckle: hold my beer. king bublin: hold my beer. lynel: whomst summoned the ancient one.
Yeah, along with Ghirahim, King Bulblin is the only enemy I'd say makes a fitting Rival for a Link. All of his fights are absolutely epic, the two horseback battles, the Duel outside the Arbiter's Grounds (the presence of so many of them and their king makes me think they are what became of the Gerudo in the Child timeline), and even the Final duel in Hyrule castle and he admits *you* are his superior. He's not just a great boss, but a great character. If we ever get a sequel to Twilight Princess, I want to see King Bulblin and the bulblins working with or for Link, we could even have something cool like Dark Link's spirit finding Demises sword and Fusing with Ghirahim, and Obviously Midna's gotta come back.
My headcanon is that, in the Downfall Timeline, Link didn't die to Ganon, but rather to Dark Link. It would explain why Twinrova is still around and why Shadow Link is there in Zelda II.
The idea of Dark Link is so damn good, but the design of the fight was such a let down. I really wish that fight was memorable for great combat as well as what Dark Link represents.
Eh I find it's a bit overdone. Feels too much like padding, if he had anything substantial to say I'd listen more, but his tone of voice doesn't exactly inspire a good narrative voice.
Not a fan either. I mean, the fight itself may be kinda cool, but it was so...random. You go into this room under water, and...its "open" ? With a (dead) tree? Not really what i expected in this dungeon. The enemy even more. Why here? Why not the dark castle or the SHADOW temple?
My personal list would be: 5. Tie between Blue Stalfos and Armos Warrior 4. Iron Knuckle 3. Dark Link 2. Darknut 1. Igos du Ikana So very similar lists, in terms of what's on them.
Yes!! So happy you not only acknowledged King Bulblin, but put him so high on the list. Truly an awesome arc of miniboss fights and minor antagonist character progression in the Twilight Princess game.
There is another amazing thing about king bulblin you didn't mentioned, There's is a little detail of the battles with him, every time he comes back one of his horns are cut off.
I never realized all of those details about Dark Link until now! That's really cool! I love the detail about Link's reflection missing once you cross over the central island. I swear, Nintendo are one of the most detail-oriented developers out there!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaah. The moment I saw kakariko village from tp I realized that you understood everything of Zelda. The king bulblin is my all-time favorite mini boss too. Nice.
Agreed. King Bulblin miniboss fights are epic. They are fun, and the way he grows after the fight shows how he’s intelligent enough to try and make countermeasures before finally having those last two man on man fights. And the recognition of your strength and his speech to show that he’s not some mindless lackey. He’s a warlord with his own code of honour that reflects the progression of the Hero of Twilight.
Can you do a video about enemies that are strong enough to be a (mini)boss but aren’t? Also, I have to say that my favorite mini boss battles came from Wind Waker. The last battles with Phantom Ganondorf were all really fun. The Darknuts in all their color coded difficulty glory were also really fun. Didn’t like fighting Moblins though.
One thing I rarely see mentioned in the King Ikana fight is that you can use the Bremen mask to make his minions stop fighting and start marching. It's pretty funny and another reason why it's also one of my favorite fights in the series.
Zeltik please, in your next ranking video (like Strongest Link), rank the games by their MUSIC. Top contenders in my opinion are Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess
I'm not Zeltik, but here's my list! 1. Twilight Princess 2. Spirit Tracks 3. Ocarina of Time 4. A Link Between Worlds 5. Breath of the Wild (Deku Palace from Majora's Mask gets an honorable mention) I totally agree with this idea. Too often music is ignored. Is it the #1 critical part of a game? No, but it's in the top five aspects of a game that need to be DOWN.
@@vivi-wr8nm I would definitely rank wind waker high on music as some of the music in it makes the game worthwhile. As a whole though I rank windwaker below most other 3D zelda games. My personal list for zelda game soundtracks from highest to lowest rank: TP, OoT, ALttP, WW, MM, SS, LoZ, BotW... Seriously BotW disappointed on the musical front. There's absolutely NO music to really enjoy save for in Hyrule castle itself. Hyrule castle theme is amazing and I will boot the game up just for that. But the music is so sparse compared to most previous zelda games. I wanted a more prominent overworld theme. If BotW had proper zelda like music throughout AND actual thematic dungeons, then it would be top of the heap.
Awesome list. You always go so much deeper than just creating an average obvious list and explaining why everyone already knows it’s good. Great section on King Bulblin
Yeah I would truly love to see a Darknut in Breath of the Wild. It would be so fun to challenge an actual knight that is good at combat. I guess there's another chance of this happening in the sequel though! Awesome video!
one thing I can always give LOZ credit for is creating such depth in their stories and characters that I want to befriend every single one of them, even the villains. what an amazing series, it can truly tell a story even with something as seemingly minute as a miniboss.
Little note about iron knuckles, if you hack the camera to look in their armor, they're all naboru, this is obviously a design choice to not have to recycle assets but you can read this as all the gerudo who apposed ganondorf were turned into iron knuckles and the only reason naboru survived is due to being a sage.
As of BotW, Lynel wins hands down. Darknuts are worthy foes that test your abilities as an expert swordsman. As near-equally skilled swordsmen with similar abilities to you, they challenge your abilities but never to an overwhelming degree. Lynels on the other hand are overwhelming adversaries in every way. They attack in many different ways, have different ranges they can kill you at, punish the most minor mistakes with devastating damage OR death, and are easily the most intimidating enemies at any level. Granted, either can be dismantled by a master level player, as high level skill so often does. But in my experience, there is a steeper learning curve for a Lynel than any Darknut that you’ve met in other games.
twilight princess is my all time favorite video game! I got it for my 8th birthday back in 2006 and it entranced me from the very moment I turned on the Game Cube. seeing videos about King Bulblin brings back so many good memories. great video dude!
I wouldn't put King Bulblin at the top for a single reason: His last fight is completely optional. I even missed it my first playthrough. You only need one key to get to Ganondorf and he holds one of two.
The one in hyrule graveyard is optional, that last room next to the boss door just has weapon ammo and money. I say that because the graveyard is easy to miss and only once eluded to by Midna I think
16:55 "And the Men Nearby are too cowardly to face him." Barnes, yes he's an absolute chicken, but Renado's a boss, he doesn't fight because that's not his skillset, man's a healer not a warrior.
Thank you for making such great videos! The quality is top notch and it’s cool to see that such a ZeldaTuber like you can be so elegant in describing something from such a great series and not just elegant but entertaining as well , congrats 👌🏻
That entire sequence involving Colin and your first fight King Bulblin is my favorite out of the entire game. -I like how Colin, the timid boy, suddenly became brave -I like how Link comes riding in to save the day all pissed. -When King Bulblin is waving around Colin on a stick, THAT made it personal for me the player (I guess it triggered the 'gotta save the kid' instinct). That made me go "OH YOU ARE SO DEAD!" -Not only is your target King Bulblin, but you also have to fend off all his minions, you are descending down on you like a wolfpack. -Remember that you only recently finding and retaming Epona, so this is likely your first serious moment of horseback combat. And it is AWESOME. -And then the joust and the bridge, and the victory scene, is the chocolate icing on the chocolate cake.
I have never thought of King Boblin as you, that was very nice actually. I like how you bring to notice some awesome details in this saga, I was raised playing Zelda games, and sometimes these details will only pass through you without being noticed. I would like to see you talking about two thing if possible (if you havent yet), saying the history behind Helmaroc King ( i love how he is) and about the labyrinth in BOTW
It's pretty clear that it wasn't Skull Kid who opened the Stone Tower. Ikana has been dead for time out of mind, and all Igos says is "the masked one." It's more likely that the foe who opened the Stone Tower Temple was the Garo Master himself-the Stone Temple is clearly a shrine to Majora's Mask, from all of the inverted artwork found within. The tragedy of Ikana likely came before Majora's Mask was even in the hand of the Happy Mask Salesman. The war was probably fought in some part over the sealed mask. The Secret Shrine found in Ikana resembles the Yiga Clan base in BOTW, and is filled with shrines to strange heart-shaped masks that, in some twisted way, vaguely resemble Majora's. It's probable that, just as Ikana is Termina's version of Hyrule Kingdom, the Garo are Termina's version of the twisted Sheikah, the Yiga Clan, descendants of the ancients who wielded (and ultimately sealed) Majora's Mask.
A very nice video as always and I definitely agree with your choices! I think with at three of your picks here there is a clear trend though - a miniboss with personality, or even a miniboss who is also a character, will always be more satisfying to fight and interact with!
At first I wondered why you'd pick King Bokoblin as your favourite Mini-Boss, but damn - I completely forgot about how many times you face him, his bigger role in the entirety of the story and I've never realized what you pointed out at the end - that each fight represents how Link has grown throughout the adventure. Bravo!
I like to imagine that the Dark Link fight in OoT is Link battling negative emotions regarding being the hero, and defeating the doubt in his mind. Essentially, proving he's the right person to save Hyrule.
One way I've seen it interpreted is that the room where you fight Dark Link was originally used by the Zoras as a place to remove impure thiughts and emotions from their hearts through meditation. With Morpha taking control and corrupting the temple, what was once used to fight a spiritual battle now manifests the darkness in your heart as a physical entity hellbent on killing you,
I love that I've been a hardcore Zelda fan for nearly 30 years, but still even glean upon new facts and lore from your videos. Cheers, man! Thanks for what you do, keeping the childhood memory alive and well.
@@vertsang5424 I meant it more in the traditional sense even though not all of the listed minibosses have swords. They are all humanoid enemies with weapons whose attacks you need to parry to strike at them. No 1. enemy even includes jousting.
@@ShadowoftheMask They are some of the best, though. Aside from the Darknuts, TP also has the armoured Lizalfos you get the Ball and Chain from, who legit made me panic. I stumbled in at 5 hearts, no fairies, and found this guy waiting for me in a small, claustrophobic room, with a powerful attack that spans the length of the room. Once you get the hang of it, just as with Darknuts, he's not a challenge, but that initial encounter is the spice of a Zelda miniboss - when they catch you by surprise, it's just soul-crushing. And the "duels" are particularly good at bringing challenge with that surprise.

3creps its a bad puzzle tp is my fav tloz game so that one comes to my mind really fast
3creps it’s a pretty annoying one too
yeah, can't deny that king bulblin was the top mini boss. and also a very important roll in twilight princess.
What did he roll?
@@GabePuratekuta Lol, he meant role, not roll.
How could I not notice for 20 years the reflection of Link's gone missing? The more you know...
I was today years old when I learned this.
Does this only happen in the remake or in does it also happen in the original? Because i never played the ds version
Fion Silberpfeil It happens in both. The n64 and 3ds version both have the reflection disappear at the tree
darknut: im the best mini boss!
igos du ikana: hold my beer.
dark link: hold MY beer.
iron knuckle: hold my beer.
king bublin: hold my beer.
lynel: whomst summoned the ancient one.
The flower lady from BOTW is the ultimate mini boss because she can’t be killed and uses up all your healing items
Lol
Lol
I was surprised by your #1 pick at first, but it made sense once you explained the thorough role he had in the story. Amazing video as usual!! 👏🏼
Data Master I wish they would make a second Twilight Princess game, it’s by far my favorite.
I totally forgot about the King Bulblin storyline... wow. I also agree!
This is a neat list
But I’m fond of Dead Hand in Ocarina of Time, and Gomess of Majora’s Mask. I just like creepy minibosses.
8:18 that's really mind blowing for me, never noticed how link's reflection vanishes after crossing the tree and becomes Dark Link
My favorite miniboss, hmmm... Does the Lynel count? Because I LOVE fighting Lynels. Also, I think you're videos are awesome Zeltik. Keep it up!
YES MY DUDE
@@kingced741 Every time there is a blood moon, I just go Lynel hunting for fun.
@@kingced741 They do appear as minibosses in BotW's Hyrule Castle so I'd say yes they count. I love them as well.
If I recall I remember abuseing the Lynel so I’d say NO
@@crabcake3571 I don't under stand what you mean by "Abusing the Lynel"
My headcanon is that, in the Downfall Timeline, Link didn't die to Ganon, but rather to Dark Link. It would explain why Twinrova is still around and why Shadow Link is there in Zelda II.
I'm not a fan of the Dark Link mini-boss, but dang you're a good narrator, you almost make me like it
The idea of Dark Link is so damn good, but the design of the fight was such a let down. I really wish that fight was memorable for great combat as well as what Dark Link represents.
Eh I find it's a bit overdone.
Feels too much like padding, if he had anything substantial to say I'd listen more, but his tone of voice doesn't exactly inspire a good narrative voice.
i like the dark link but it is so easy i spammed my hammer the whole battle
Not a fan either. I mean, the fight itself may be kinda cool, but it was so...random. You go into this room under water, and...its "open" ? With a (dead) tree? Not really what i expected in this dungeon. The enemy even more. Why here? Why not the dark castle or the SHADOW temple?
Im not gonna lie, the slightest tear ran down my cheek as you got to king bulblin. He’s just such a great character
My personal list would be:
5. Tie between Blue Stalfos and Armos Warrior
4. Iron Knuckle
3. Dark Link
2. Darknut
1. Igos du Ikana
So very similar lists, in terms of what's on them.
Imagine if there were Darknuts in skyward sword. Would’ve been awesome encounters in my opinion
Honestly mate another amazing video, the way you articulate what you want to say always blows me away
I loved the revelation with King Boblin in TP. Wish the series would do stuff like this more often!
"He breathes ice, or blue... fire or just... bad... breath... at Link" xD
Yes!! So happy you not only acknowledged King Bulblin, but put him so high on the list. Truly an awesome arc of miniboss fights and minor antagonist character progression in the Twilight Princess game.
oh i have never realised that dark link was his reflection at first.
There is another amazing thing about king bulblin you didn't mentioned, There's is a little detail of the battles with him, every time he comes back one of his horns are cut off.
Any twilight princess darknut is my favorite enemy compared to anything
Iron Knuckle...
4 HEARTS OF DAMAGE IN YOUR FACE
DAMNIT
I never realized all of those details about Dark Link until now! That's really cool! I love the detail about Link's reflection missing once you cross over the central island. I swear, Nintendo are one of the most detail-oriented developers out there!
Who else laughs when they're watching The Legend of Zelda video then the youtuber says there's a LINK in the description?
I never thought about it that way...
every time
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaah.
Nice! Would want to see some more content like this :3
*He can breathe ice or blue fire or just bad breathe*
I loved the darknuts in tp mostly because when you finish it's armor off it resorts to it's side sword changing from a slow tank to a fast paced enemy
Zeltik please, in your next ranking video (like Strongest Link), rank the games by their MUSIC. Top contenders in my opinion are Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess
Dont sleep on wind waker
I'm not Zeltik, but here's my list!
1. Twilight Princess
2. Spirit Tracks
3. Ocarina of Time
4. A Link Between Worlds
5. Breath of the Wild
(Deku Palace from Majora's Mask gets an honorable mention)
I totally agree with this idea.
In my opinion, SS has the best soundtrack. Too bad it's so underrated :(
Link's Awakening, daft idiot
I never noticed your reflection disappears in the dark link fight! That fight just keeps getting cooler
"So this completes our little boss triforce."
Me: THE BOSSFORCE
**batlle music starts playing**
Awesome list. You always go so much deeper than just creating an average obvious list and explaining why everyone already knows it’s good. Great section on King Bulblin
It's obvious, you are the best zelda tuber
hm?
Great pick for #1.
15:56-16:06 That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Yeah I would truly love to see a Darknut in Breath of the Wild. It would be so fun to challenge an actual knight that is good at combat. I guess there's another chance of this happening in the sequel though! Awesome video!
I believe the first use of the Darknut as a miniboss was in OoT within the spirit temple...
Edit: Nevermind. Iron Knuckles. Got it.
Not only is your content good, but also the language in which you speak. It's very poetic, it's like listening to a good audio book
13:37
my stomach instantly dropped when i saw that cutscene again. it is a great battle but goddamn do i hate fighting king bublin.
one thing I can always give LOZ credit for is creating such depth in their stories and characters that I want to befriend every single one of them, even the villains. what an amazing series, it can truly tell a story even with something as seemingly minute as a miniboss.
So is Dark Link in OoT technically an Amiibo?
Little note about iron knuckles, if you hack the camera to look in their armor, they're all naboru, this is obviously a design choice to not have to recycle assets but you can read this as all the gerudo who apposed ganondorf were turned into iron knuckles and the only reason naboru survived is due to being a sage.
I would argue that Skeleton Man is an actual boss and not a mini boss
This is why I love this channel you're not afraid to branch out with things like this
Glad to see my favorite Zelda enemy made it into #1.
That was a really great video, you're easily my favorite zelda-youtuber
What is a harder mini boss?
Lynel or darknut.
Bucket List right sure
BotW is great, has many issues like dungeons and bosses but is still a great game. Also lynels are so easy to fight in BotW
Lynel
Darknut mounted on lynel
twilight princess is my all time favorite video game!
I don't understand how one can miss him. I thought everyone would have explored all of Hyrule Castle on their first playthrough.
The part in Twilight Princess when you have to escort the carriage... I've never sworn so much playing a game in my life!
Yea, %100 agree: King Bulblin was an AMAZING character. The end of that 4th fight blew my mind.
That entire sequence involving Colin and your first fight King Bulblin is my favorite out of the entire game.
-I like how Colin, the timid boy, suddenly became brave
-I like how Link comes riding in to save the day all pissed.
-When King Bulblin is waving around Colin on a stick, THAT made it personal for me the player (I guess it triggered the 'gotta save the kid' instinct). That made me go "OH YOU ARE SO DEAD!"
-Not only is your target King Bulblin, but you also have to fend off all his minions, you are descending down on you like a wolfpack.
-Remember that you only recently finding and retaming Epona, so this is likely your first serious moment of horseback combat. And it is AWESOME.
-And then the joust and the bridge, and the victory scene, is the chocolate icing on the chocolate cake.
Dang it, watching this reminds of just how ready I am for a follow up to BOTW.
I have a lil' theory that Darknauts were hyrules elite soldiers, but were then corrupted by magic or bribery to become the hero of times adversary.
I wish the Darknut appears in the next Zelda game
A very nice video as always and I definitely agree with your choices! I think with at three of your picks here there is a clear trend though - a miniboss with personality, or even a miniboss who is also a character, will always be more satisfying to fight and interact with!
Darknut in twilight princesses hyrule castle is my favorite, followed by king bulblin.
Bravo!
They should make the botw 2 darknut a malice infested set of soldiers armour, with soldier weapons
The whole last segment was SUUPER good. Love the channel man!
Why does King Bulblin look like the booger/mucus off the mucinex commercials 😂😂😂😂😂
oh dear god you're right
orcs and goblins tend to look that way in media
King Bulblin being the greatest and most epic miniboss:
and THAT slowmo Link posing on Epona- gosh, it's so iconic
Hmm, ye seem to have preference for bosses you "duel" with.
Do you have a mini-boss in mind which we do not fight alone?
