Here is my review of the Meike 18mm S35 T2.1
What is your favourite wide cinema lens ?
Cheers,
Flo
18mm is a sweet spot for me. I've used a sigma 18-50 2.8 for a lot of my work. I'm glad Meike made this one. This Cine lens will be my first Cine wide lens.
Which one you'd prefer between Meike & Rokinon. Thanks.
@@mutualdelusion1798 I have only used Rokinon very briefly years ago so I can’t really compare! The only thing I can say is that I love the Meikes :)
@@benhernandez Nice! And yes, 18mm is a pretty great focal length. Very versatile and useful!
I have Tokina Cinema ATX 11-20mm T2.9 and love it! This one looks interesting to have as a Meike Kit. I have Meike 35 mm T2.1 S35 one.
Very nice short and informative review, with lovely footage to view (as usual). I have the Meike S35 and so it's very easy to get a good sense of the 18mm from what you show. Looks like it's consistent with the other focal lengths in the set in many respects. I agree, the lack of alignment with the infinity marker straight out of the box, is a little disappointing. However, all the bits are provided to put it right, at some point... Thx.
Thank you !! Been super happy with this lens so far. I really enjoy filming with these Meike S35 :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I still really appreciate your videos, they’re great to expand my understanding of gear and potential applications.
Thank you for watching !! Glad you like my work :)
Très chouettes les test footage ! Notamment ce en low light dans le garage. J’aime beaucoup leur rendu 🎬
Merci Thomas! Je vais partager un peu plus de ces plans dans le garage, j'étais plutôt content aussi :)
Finally a review, not that I have a choice in not getting as I have there other lenses.
the complete set of their s35 seems perfect for so many of us. I've reached out to Meike and confirmed that the image circle on all of the s35 lenses DO cover 1.3x crop factor found on the Ursa Mini 12k. Which is good news! Imagine if they made a s35 zoom to compete with the Pictor Zooms!
Yeah they really are good lenses! And that's great to know, I didn't have the time to use the Meike when I had the 12K. And man, same here! I have been waiting for them to drop a cine zoom as well, it would be amazing !!
Bravo! Thank you so much for all the information, my friend. Great review as always!
Thanks so much mate, glad you enjoyed it !!
Great review as always. Looking forward to adding the 18mm to my current S35 line up. For wide shots I've been using the Tokina 11-16mm ef 2.8 its a good lens but it is a photography lens. I much prefer the warmer tone and look of the S35 Meike lenses. Hopefully you'll get your hands on the 75 and 100mm soon enough. Keep up the amazing work you do. I always look forward to your presentations.
Thank you so much for the positive feedback!! Meike did really well with this S35 series :)
Partly because of your beautiful videos, I’ve decided to try the S35 line and I can’t be happier with the results so far 😊
Mainly I use 25mm, because of my environment) Also I use 35 & 50 mm to shoot close ups and the results are pretty awesome 😍 Now I have the itch to try this 18mm one😁
Congrats and happy to hear :) They really are lovely lenses !!
My go-to wide is the Tokina 11-20mm Cine lens. Thing is a beast.
I believe you, I’ve only heard good things about that lens!
Are these able to easily switch bayonets between PL and EF like the DZOFilm primes are? Or do you pretty much purchase with a permanent mount?
Cool.
Hey, I really love your videos, your hand held shooting in particular as it's mainly how I also shoot, I prefer to lean a lot more minimalistic in my approach. I recently picked up a 6k pro and some Meike lenses and, even though I really like them, I was wondering how you handle the rolling shutter? Especially when using tighter lenses? I came from using Sony and you had move the camera quite frantically in order to notice the rolling shutter, but I feel you can notice it with very little movement on this camera. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!! To be honest rolling shutter has never been an issue for me with the type of content I make so unfortunately I do not have tips regarding this :(
The only time I noticed it was when shooting trains for examples.
@@OfTwoLands No worries, thanks for the reply!
I run a 6K Pro with a Sigma 18-35 and a Sigma 24-70. Really interested in these lenses. Any reason why I would choose them over my Sigma’s? Really great video. Thank you!
Thank you!! I would pick the Meike when you need the features of a cinema lens. More precision and control, long focus throw, Declicked aperture T Stop and also more character etc :)
For filmmaking would you suggest the 18mm or the 12mm? And likewise, would you suggest the 75mm or the 100mm more?
How do the super 35 line compares to the FF still on a super 35 sensor? Is there any point in getting the FF version if you plan to shoot of the super 35 with image quality?
I haven't had the chance to test out the FF yet so I can't really comment on this :(
hi love your reviews and videos, can i ask you is big difference 25 and 18? i have 25mm and i love it thanks to you its my firts lens of meike s35. now in plan second lens and thinking about 18 or 50 i have (plastic canon 50 😀) and dont know if 18 will be big diferent from 25. thank you.
Thanks!! There is not a huge difference but still enough to see a distinction between the two as you can see briefly in this video. If you are thinking about the 50mm then it means you need a tighter lens and in this case I would recommend to get it so you have both 25 and 50 for now. You can then have an idea of which one you use the most and if you prefer to shoot wide or tight.
@@OfTwoLands Thanks you know you need everything i taken 25 for wide 18 it wasnt at market at time but if it not so big deal 25 vs 18 i will take 50 and after will take 18. Thank you
do the meike lenses freeze up or get stiff in the cold ? typical problem with some other economy cine lenses
I haven't experienced this so far :)
@@OfTwoLands Thanks. How cold ? I've had Sigma still lenses freeze up in the lower 30F's as their grease is rated to 37F ! I had them degrease the lens.
In my opinion, Meike lenses are ideal for those who don't trust vintage lenses but still want them to have something retro and, given their small size, don't want the bulk of lenses such as Leica Summilux, Zeiss Super Speed et similia.
Would I buy them? At the moment, with two Contax Zeiss on their way to France to be cine-modded, I don't feel like answering :-)
Haha as someone who owns both the Meike and the Contax Zeiss I can understand! I do like both lenses equally for different reasons though :)
@@OfTwoLands very interesting, i mean i’d love a set of contax zeiss but i don’t know if i can justify the cost and time just yet. I suppose they have a bit more character than the meike? Sure comes at a price though. What about focus breathing?
Just bought this lense last week. I noticed that the focus wheel is very stiff. I also had a meike mft cine lense and the focus wheel there was way easier to turn. Did you notice the same thing or is my lense damaged?
I've just had a look at my other 3 S35 lenses compared to the 18mm and it is pretty similar. It should be stiffer than a regular lens of course but not to the point that it becomes hard to use. Have you also tried with a follow focus ? If it is too stiff then I would contact them to be sure.
@@OfTwoLands My Tilta Nucles Nano can hardly rotate the lense halfway at 15volt power and then stops. At 5Volt the nucleus nano shuts down immediately.
Jonas you have a problem with your lens, i use the 18mm withe the nano at 7.2v and it works like a charm
So, is the 18mm a true 18mm? Or is it a a 27 (18x1.5)??
This 18mm is roughly a 28mm FF equivalent on S35 sensors.
Aren't you frustrated with the view angle for a wide lens? I mean since it's S35, they could have reduced the focal lenght to 12 or 10 mm so you really could have a 15 or 18 mm but this roughly 28 mm equivalent is not what you can really call a wide angle, is it?
28mm FF is technically wide angle, yes :). It does feel wide too. I would consider a 12-10mm to be a super wide even on a S35 sensor.
Today it is 12mm. But I didn't find many videos about it...
How much price?
$699
As per the video, $699.
