Thank youfor this video. I'm not a video shooter but I always wanted a cine lens because of the long focus throw which helps with precision when you're manually focusing. The only hold back for me is the darker T-stop of the Meike. I require no more than T1.5 for the lens to justify its place in my collection. Hopefully, Meike will consider designing something brighter than T2.1.

Before grading, you’ve got to color correct them to match, so more time, more money. You wouldn’t be able to just copy and paste a grade to other shots in a scene taken with different lenses in the set without noticing inconsistencies.
@@cinelensgeeky3648 Caleb understands more than you do. On a multi-cam shoot or on a job where you’re switching lenses during a scene, the colorist will need to match up the shots. There is an unmistakable difference in color between some of the different focal lengths. For instance, when paired with the Sony a1, the 85mm is noticeably more yellow than the 24mm and 50mm, and at 5200K, in Resolve, it requires a -250K and +10 tint adjustment to match the other lenses, which is not negligible. If your lighting on set was off by that amount, the gaffer would be responsible for making it match. The 85mm also has less contrast than the 24mm and 50mm. Professional colorists deal with this all the time, as high end productions not infrequently involve many different lenses by several manufacturers.
This was very cool to see even Tought i just shoot film . Got the chance to try some old cooke lenses., i Tought my Canon L lenses where well built but it was nothing agaisnt Those gems . So cool to just play with the focus that was so perfectly smooth
Caleb, I've noticed your lips look overly orange in the past few videos? I'm a user of your correction luts for A7Siii, and I know there is varying degrees of orange to a more red tint depending on what "skin" lut you use. Everything else in the shot looks good, so maybe your lips are just orange??? Like look at the Canon skintone/lips @8:23 vs. the main cam setup. Weird comment I know...just noticed and was wondering what was up?

Fantastic comparison Caleb! With the bokeh comparison it would be fantastic if you did the comparisons more similar to CVP, with a subject in the middle of the frame and fairy lights in the background, this gives a much better and more real-world comparison to judge the quality on. Cheers!
I'm still watching Meike FF lens reviews despite having almost a full set. It is great to see them up against some glass that don't constantly get referred to as 'cheap' or 'affordable'. Although colour cast might be a few nodes in Resolve off, I thought they out performed Canon in these tests. Thanks for bringing us this video even if it is just so I can say to my wife, I told you they were a great investment. 😂
Nice video, mechanical considerations also should be compared. From my experience with cheaper lenses, the tension and smoothness of focus are all over the place from lens to lens
I want to say Thank You for the info. Now I just need to get some lenses to feed my Sony PXW-FS7M2. It came with a Fujinon MK50-135 mm Cine Lens. What would you recommend for general indoor shooting. They what for outdoor landscape and animals. Once again Thank You.
Faster apertures, color consistency = professional use; In contrast, a 1/4 price tag and some inconsistency in color = lower cost production markets. They both have they own market positions. And the price difference is actually not as great as it may seems. Typically, for same kind of lenses, price would be more than double for 1 stop of faster maximum aperture. Thus, it's really down to actually shooting needs at the end of the day.
Color shift is subtle, and an easy fix. Can't justify the price, especially knowing that Canon is the Apple of cameras. They're solid, but typically less featured packed for way more money.
I’m starting RUclips for fun but I needed light so I ordered a Godox P260C and a superclamp. Already got a reflector, a mini LED, tripod and one clamp. I’m thinking of clamping some of it on chairs and putting my tripod pole on the side with a blanket over it as sound dampening. Also ordered a cheap feelworld screen. Wonder if this will end well.
Can you do this with Rokinon DSX vs Meike? Just for the data. Great comparison with a lot of good metrics. Subscribed and liked. Honestly, you could just run tests of all these new lenses on a blog post if the videos are too much work. I get it, they're all expensive. Just amazing to see!
It's a pity the coating of the Meike is no good because you overlooked an EXTREMELY important aspect of the lens characters. It most brutally shows in the 85mm comparrison (minute 7.48): Look at the picture, not the color, and you'll notice that the Meike has a way better depth then the Canon which flattens the focal planes aka squezzes the shot while the Meike creates a nice depth to the room -> objects in the back look further away with the Meike while the Canon places everything "on your back". Or in other words the Meike creates more distance between objects. However, the flatter image of the Canon can of course also be used for artistic reasons to create a more claustrophobic atmosphere with "walls moving in on you". ;) Great video! Salute.

I think I accidentally used the wrong "skin" LUT ha! The higher the skin number, the more red leans toward orange.
he makes "reviews" of gear he cant use. guy couldnt make a shortfilm if the life of his whole family was depending on it, yet he wants to tell people what gear is usable. lolwhat a joke 🤦😂
The amount of time you spent on these tests were amazing..
In terms of CA and sharpness, I think Meike FF prime outperform Vespid.
Hello I want to shoot a film with Sony fx 3 I can only buy 1 lens for for now which one would you suggest? Awesome video btw!
Can you do a review on the new meike rf cine lens for Komodo
I'm curious what you do with all the gear sent to you. Do you ever post it on Share Grid for rental?
Nice audio. What mic did you use for the video? What postprocessing?
Super helpful comparison, thanks!
He specifically mentions that they are the same in terms of smoothness and weighted feel of the rings?
@@SD-ft6gs I know the lenses, I have tested both of them. there is a reason people pay thousands of dollars more for lenses.
Dude your thumbnail backdrop is sick!!! Is that really physical backdrop?
Should rent a set of ARRI Master Primes to compare to. That’s a real benchmark. CNE are rehoused L glass optics.
This was incredibly interesting. Thank you!
my main question would be the quality control of the Meike as these are probably a hand selected review set that he was sent
Okay, I never expected this one. I think I'm just have to pull the trigger on Meike or the likes.
Can you do a review on the Xeen cine lenses by rokinon! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Can u test the Meike against Rokinon?
Thx Great work like always would luv u to have a look at the NITECORE Superior Prime
I’m curious how the Meikes compare to the latest offerings from Rokinon.
I love this video before it even started
Color shift is subtle, and an easy fix. Can't justify the price, especially knowing that Canon is the Apple of cameras. They're solid, but typically less featured packed for way more money.
I’m starting RUclips for fun but I needed light so I ordered a Godox P260C and a superclamp. Already got a reflector, a mini LED, tripod and one clamp. I’m thinking of clamping some of it on chairs and putting my tripod pole on the side with a blanket over it as sound dampening. Also ordered a cheap feelworld screen. Wonder if this will end well.
Fantastic test, man.
Would you consider the Meike a logical upgrade from Rokinon CIne kit?
Absolutely!
Is their hard focus stop precisely in infinity or infinity plus lots of blur?
Thanks for this helpful comparison! I’d love to see the Meike’s up against the Irix cinema lenses. 🙏🏼
Can you do this with Rokinon DSX vs Meike? Just for the data. Great comparison with a lot of good metrics. Subscribed and liked. Honestly, you could just run tests of all these new lenses on a blog post if the videos are too much work. I get it, they're all expensive. Just amazing to see!
is there a option to change mount to pl on canons?
Camera guide for Fuji Xt4/XS10? 🤔
It's a pity the coating of the Meike is no good because you overlooked an EXTREMELY important aspect of the lens characters. It most brutally shows in the 85mm comparrison (minute 7.48):
Look at the picture, not the color, and you'll notice that the Meike has a way better depth then the Canon which flattens the focal planes aka squezzes the shot while the Meike creates a nice depth to the room -> objects in the back look further away with the Meike while the Canon places everything "on your back". Or in other words the Meike creates more distance between objects.
However, the flatter image of the Canon can of course also be used for artistic reasons to create a more claustrophobic atmosphere with "walls moving in on you". ;)
Great video! Salute.
what features does the connectivity to the camera entail? is it just a screen readout of the focus measurement? can the meikes do autofocus?
