60 three point shots a game while at least 20 of those are not even close makes the game amateurish. They are settling for 35% for 3 analitics instead 60% dominance
No team ever averaged 60%. Maybe once a season. All sports analytically dominant. Gets all losers off the hook. Baseball used to call it "playing it by the book"
@ The product itself has worsened over the years. If it was great, people would be watching from November to February. So there needs to be no football and no baseball on for people to begin taking an interest??
I’ve been watching the NBA since 2005, the game has simply changed from competitive to boring. I grew up watching Kobe, Duncan, KG, Dwayne Wade, and many other stars that would compete every single game. Nowadays players don’t care about playing and don’t care about their fans who paid money to watch them play.
I'm assuming this is like the Indy 500 TV blackout in most of Indiana. If I'm going to the race, I'm going to see the fast cars, not because it's blocked on TV. Stoopid and an easy way to lose fans except the most hard core, they just get pissed off.
Yupp! That’s exactly right! I’m not paying tons of money every year to watch h the local team play. It’s crazy how they have blocked out their own fans!

All that means it they got some work to do. We'll see...
This why I rarely watch NBA games on TV: 1.) Too many threes. 2.) Too little defense. 3.) Often traveling and carrying the ball. (and it's rarely called) 4.) 'Load management' of players. 5.) Fashions, bling, and jewelry seem more important than fundamentals and performance. As far as going to an arena to see a live game? Fugett about it.🔊🔊🔊💰💰💰
I don't mind the pace and space style. You just need to stop rewarding flopping on both sides of the ball. The ridiculous cheesy fouls that get you three shots because you fall on the ground every time you shoot it... You can't hand check. You're allowed to travel. I think if they brought back hand checking and allow people to play defense a little bit The pace and space stuff would be fine

Seriously. I don't get how the 1980s-90s were heralded as this Golden Age of basketball with fun rules and top tier competitors/rivalries and yet, the NBA doesn't even attempt to replicate it. I'm sure if you had big men being useful again, allowed handchecking to limit the perimeter, travels were called, and superstars weren't given 90% priority.....you might feel a little more respectful of the product.
I love the high volume 3 pointers. Defence rules need to be changed, no more defensive in the key and handchecking should be allowed. Also fiba rules for above the cylinder rebounding should be implemented.
I agree with Shaq it's just boring to watch. 3-pointers and free throws all game long wow how exciting. There's no physical play. There are no defense, most games are blowouts. Everybody's all buddy buddy all the time. It's so less entertaining than it was 90s 2000s
The players want to be all buddy buddy and not care as they skip around from team to team with no loyalty to anyone but making the most money they can. This is what they get. 2:50 when Shaq said Steph ruined it. I don’t think in a bad way, he just means other teams that aren’t capable of shooting like the warriors, are trying to play the same way.
It's like in baseball they teach uppercut swings now, they're playing statistical odds of a home run even if it results in more popouts. The mid range 2pt jumper is discouraged for this reason. Might as well take a 3
Its not steph, its analytics, in the simplest of examples if your team takes 100 shots in a game and they're all 2 pointers and you make 50% of them, you score 50x2 = 100 points, if your team takes all 3 pointers and makes even 34% of them this is 34x3= 102 points....simple math, we know that its often easier to make 34% of your 3's than 50% of your 2s, again analytics tell us there are more 34% or above 3 point shooters in the league than there are 50% 2pt fg shooters, so why wouldn't teams exploit this especially with the new shooters protective rules which has shooters being able to shoot and land with more space, and they're going to the line almost as much as post players, there is ZERO advantage to playing heavily in the post these days.
LOL! You beat me to the punch! 3 on 1 fast break with the ball being kicked out to the wing for a three...... that ends up being an airball.. Such a joke!
I wonder if it is a "lack of actual connection" between the players as well as too many games. One of the reasons I enjoy watching the Iowa team with CC is that there seems to be great team chemistry and a real connection and really friendship between the players. Also, there is respect for their opponents.
They don’t have games on abc and nbc during the week like football and there’s too much content on streaming apps. Yeah, this is definitely the main reason, the old heads in the comments saying they prefer the 90s or 2000s style of basketball when in reality, a lot of people also complained about that style of play when it was getting repetitive for them. People just get bored if the same thing is being fed to them constantly. There's just better avenues of entertainment rather than watching people go back and forth on the court and "put ball into the hoop". Not to mention it's easier to get NBA content through RUclips, twitter tiktok etc. As a basketball fan, I get why people don't like how the game is played these days, everything is based on efficiency. It's very cold and it lacks the grit and emotion that 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and early 2010s basketball had. Realistically, the main goal of any team is to win. The best way to win is to win it efficiently, and what's the efficient way to win games these days? Through 3s, getting to the line and putting up free throws and perimeter and post defense. The only solution is to either extend the three point line even further or just remove it all together but I doubt the people would like that either. It's just a sinking ship really.
Players are not invested to go out and play hard during the games too. Forget about asking the player to play when they are healthy. The players are now missing about 20% of their scheduled games. It is now considered by the players to be hard to play in 70 games. It is like going to a movie and the star you came to see no showed in the movie.
Ever since the bubble, I've become a casual fan. The modern style of play is just aggressive talent rather than strategy, defense and competitiveness. Players make no secret they care more about the bag and their brands. The FIBA World Cup, Olympics and WNBA have all been refreshing to watch because of the game's purity, style play and competitive pride is on full display.

Lebron was a big instrument in killing the competitive nature of the nba. Not even worth watching until the finals. Zero appeal to me now. Used to be a huge fan

No defense & nothing but shooting 3’s!!! Superstars aren’t playing every game. I used to love the NBA but stopped watching it this year and won’t watch it anymore!!!
The games turning into three point contests, too little defense and the lack of proper post play is what made me lose interest over recent years. I have been watching regularly since the mid-90ies, but this season I haven't watched a single NBA game yet and that's probably not going to change - and that is despite two players from my country playing for the team I have been following for almost three decades.
For me the biggest problem is free agency. It's hard to build loyalty and be a team fan when there's no consistency year over year. Players go where the money takes them, and it seems the game takes a back seat. There are a few notable exceptions, buy really not many.
Do you think there is too much individual play as well? One of the joys of watching basketball, for me, is seeing players working together and understanding each other. I like the idea that the team players actually like each other.
@tenderstepsPaul Yes, there is. One of the most refreshing things about Caitlin Clark is her passing skills. She makes a lot of players so much better.

Rachel, here's the Billion dollar answer - College. 1. People want to watch a young sensation come into the NBA and see what happens when the new great talent hits the old great talent. (Kareem vs Wilt, Shaq vs. Robinson, Hakeem, etc ) 2. Colleges are the most entrenched and best pools for developing rivalries. (Magic, Bird) 3. College fan bases will follow the very best players, being even more attached from having known them as so great so young (Caitlin) 4. Of course there are outliers who skyrocket in the NBA (Jordan) or truly had enough talent to go straight in after HS (Kobe), but they are not the rule and people don't want to watch potential development in the pros. 5. Caitlin Clark just reminded everybody of this, and while women's basketball is unique as she broke the college Monopoly with the best amateur fan base of iowa, she still reminded everybody that college is the best place to build a fandom and then bring fans to the pros 6. Now that college players have nil they can make enough while playing in college... 7. If the League required that players (first) to go to 4 years of college, or maybe everyone who couldn't make the lottery, the college rivalries would grow immensely and players would develop that new following that would replenish the league with new generations of fans... Now if you bring this to Adam Silver and it all goes through please remember my consult fee
bro you’re just a college basketball fan. this would not solve the nba’s problems. storylines and playing defense would make the product better. not a bs rule about going to college
@supitschillbro nope, I'm more of a pro fan...You're missing the overwhelming point that young players can both best develop in college & build a legend that pulls new generations of fans to follow players from college to the pros. Besides just a dozen players in history, this has always been the best path for building both associations. Caitlin Clark just proved this old truth again, but people are blindly and only see race and $$$.
@@supitschillbro well, you need to think past your silliness... Of course the reason people love watching college athletes is because they love watching the development within fair play. Women's college basketball has been a travesty of monopolies with only five teams winning 70% of the championships over the past two or three decades. Nobody cares about college all-star teams that buzz saw through the entire tournament. Also the monopolies fail to properly develop the players or put them under any tests that are inspiring. That's why nobody cares about South carolina, maybe they'll go 200 and 0 getting 1/3 of the five stars every year and not only will nobody care people will be rather turned off by it...The same thing has been true in men's basketball where teams like 79 Indiana State and 85s Villanova became phenomena. Simply put, the college talent development can only work and benefit the pros if college is not corrupt and run by an oligopoly of a handful of teams. So if they allow the college landscape to be dispersed naturally they will get the player in fan development. Men's basketball has been failing to do that for years and that's also a big part of why the NBA has been declining

I loved the NBA from the 90s up until the 2016ish. For me the biggest 2 turnoffs now are the refereeing and then the chucking of 3s. The nba game and refs allow blatant travells, double dribbles and other violations. I do not believe the expansion of the NBA will help much if they don't return to the basics of basketball.

It's ironic that I quit watching the NBA when 40% or more of the shots were 3's. For quite awhile I was DVR'ing the games and only watching the 4th quarter when they actually start playing defense.

I loved basketball when there were 2 big men 3 in the back court less 3s and more defense. I might be "out of touch" at least thats what im attacked with. Watching teams just running up the court and shooting 3s is boring it just is. There is no inside game unless its a fast break.
People have to take out a second mortgage to go to a game. Tickets for say dad, mom and a couple of kids. Soda, snacks with ridiculous prices. Parking and maybe bridge tolls.
It's a combination of reasons, but my thoughts as the main reason is that todays NBA Superstar is not playing with the energy that Kobe, T-Mac, MJ, Shaq, KG, Duncan, or D.Wade use to bring. NBA players are now being paid double in comparison to even 10 yrs. ago to just sit on the side lines. You expect the hard working Man or Woman to spend their hard earned money to watch a healthy player just sit out a game. Think of all the organizations that put money together to take kids to a basketball game, and the kids favorite player is out because of "load management." That moment will forever live in those kids memories wether it's good or bad. Kobe use to say" and you can catch interviews with these words coming out of his mouth "I play every game for the fans, the kids in the nose bleed seats, because I use to be that kid." Look at the NBA All-Star Game, it use to be a badge of Honor not only to be selected, but you where representing the East or West, your Team, your City, and if anything the players use to turn up in the 4th quarter to win the game. Now not only is the whole game a joke but people don't even watch the 4th quarter because it's embarrassing. Maybe if they added to the All-Star weekend (NBA USA vs. NBA Europe) possibly players would turn up, but with the temperature of these NBA players today who knows. It's so sad to see the game I grew up watching, and I Love so much with such incredible talent, but littered with a bunch of spoiled BRATS! David Stern is rolling in his grave with how terrible Adam Silver is running the NBA.

That stupid in season tournament is part of the problem, they’re trying too hard to get viewers pandering isn’t going to trick fans into caring about the tournament that really means nothing in the long run no effect whatsoever on playoff positioning or anything that matters. The team that wins the tournament could potentially miss the playoffs
I am a Filipino residing in Canada and being a Filipino, I can say that I am a basketball fanatic. However, I found NBA games these days already boring. In fact I haven't watched a single NBA game this season yet. But I can't say that I already lost interest in basketball. Because actually, I never missed any games of CC22 and her Indiana Fever and perhaps one among those who never watched the WNBA playoffs after they unceremoniously eliminated the Fever. I also subscribed and followed vloggers whose contents features Caitlin to get daily update on her. Also, I had been shopping around online lately where I could buy Caitlin Fever jerseys for my daughters and even for the whole family. Politics in sports has turned off a lot of fans as well as bad officiating and it feels like games have slowed down. Caitlin Clark brought a faster pace and enthusiasm to the WNBA that is missing in a lot of sports.
That doesn’t make sense. Since Bill Russell and Kareem there’s been players involved with politics. They were much more involved. That hasn’t changed maybe for you because they might not line up with your views.
To deny that players yapping about their political views hasnt turned away a lot of fans, is either a delusional or dishonest take. Russel wasnt having political meltdowns at press confrences and he didnt have social media to shove his views in everyones face.

- Make it a 58 game season. - Remove the All-Star game and make the NBA Cup a real Tournament. - Change some rules, if I would go to a game, and see 20 attempted 3-pointers in the first quarter, I'm leaving. - Most of all, I want it to be difficult to score, reward defense. I loved those low scoring games in the past - Get rid of that ridiculous Play-in tournament. A 9th and 10th seed shouldn't get a chance to participate in the Playoffs. Who cares anyway that the 7th and 10th seed make it, or the 8th and 9th?
What I don’t get is the most athletic guys in the world can’t do 30-40 mins a cardio 3-4 times a week for millions without sitting out or “resting” or these “injuries” we all know are BS. I see the same people hooping for 2-3 hours at LA Fitness every day of the week like it’s nothing. People climbing roofs with shingles for $15/hr 40 hours a week. Rec leagues with 50 year olds playing games 2-3 times a week. You’re telling me the most athletic humans in the world can’t do some cardio 3-4 times a week for 6 months?
1) Get rid of Blackouts (I have to pay 2 different companies to watch my team) 2) Shorten the season, increase quaters from 12 to 15 minutes 3) Allow the game to be more physical 4) Increase the diameter of the 3 point shot 5) All-Star game should count for NBA finals home court advantage 6) Hard cap for all teams
Instead of giving players money for the All-Star game, take away a percentage of their weekly check. Or they bet their weekly check on the game. Something?
If I wanted to go to a Laker game with my spouse and kid, it would be about $1200 at a minimum when parking, food, and tickets are all accounted for and we're talking nosebleed seats on a off-night against a team like the Wizards. As mentioned, the game has gotten boring and knowing how very mid-tier players are making $30-40 million a year kind of makes me sick when they just look like they're screwing around on the court.
@tellall23 People are fed up with being force-fed LeBron storyline. Especially when the NBA has different rules for LeBron than any other player. Dislodging the defensive player is an offensive foul, except when LeBron does it. Then agents ensure no other team can draft Bronny without being blacklisted. If my team wanted a player, but didn't have the draft pick to get him, they would have to trade up in the draft. Not the Lakers.

Is there too much individual play? I don't watch many NBA games. Can you elaborate on the not "allowed to guard each other"? I love watching teams where there is a clear feeling between the players, an understanding and where they actually seem to like each other.
@tenderstepsPaul I don't mind how players team up, or that seem to actually be friends off off the court. I always find it easy to just want to humiliate my closest friends when we play pickup. By not guard each other, I mean: no hands-on defense, probably another two to three "gather steps" on drives/stepbacks, moving screens on handoffs, dudes can scoop the ball handling it (makes faking someone out 100x easier), offensive guys can throw themselves into you on what would be a good contest, and just in general the league having a bias towards offense because that sells. There's still a decent amount of competitiveness. Just seems they all decided, "Lets all run n' gun these threes. Nobody gotta get hurt over this. These fans don't got the attention span anyway." At least how I see it.
@@tenderstepsPaul Two things: player movement rules and the defensive 3 second in the paint rule pretty much broke the game. You pair that with every offense now prioritizing three point shooting to space the floor as much as possible and the game has evolved where the lane is pretty much completely open all game. A simple pick and role executed effectively guarantees a wide open shot every time, so that's pretty much the only offense anyone runs. Every game ends up feeling and looking the same and it's boring.
162 3’s between 2 games isn’t the problem (necessarily). The COMPLETE lack of defense is. The regular season is starting to become all star game effort level.
Nothing about the NBA regular season feels urgent. Most games end up being a race to 120 points, lots of teams play the same way (5-out, iso, high pick and roll), and the load management stuff over the last few years has turned fans off of the product (even with the in-season tourney and 65-game minimum). Sports Entertainment like WWE. NFL is becoming like that too.
The NBA has become completely unwatchable.
It's only exciting watching freakishly tall men dunk for so long. Competition is hurt when there's no zone defenses. How much are stadium seats?
No it hasn't. The viewing usually goes up after the All-Star weekend. People are watching football now.

This why I rarely watch NBA games on TV:
1.) Too many threes.
2.) Too little defense.
3.) Often traveling and carrying the ball. (and it's rarely called)
4.) 'Load management' of players.
5.) Fashions, bling, and jewelry seem more important than fundamentals and performance.

@@curtiszyr Players actually played hard, that's what made it fun. Whether defense was objectively superior is a moot point. Stars hated each other, went after each other every game, competition was a constant, players suited up virtually every 82 games and starters played 35-38 mins, back to back, flew commercial, didn't complain. The reason there are SO many injureis today is because players are not even in great shape, they barely practice, they sit out games. Stars pretty much do their conditioning in the summer and then pretty much coast through the season taking time off whenever they want it. If you look at just view counts. The NBA has more coverage now than ever.
No physical defense is a big let down and has been for years. My bad boy pistons would kill these teams today and make it look easy. No physical defense is one of the biggest problems with todays NBA.
I hate today's game. I can't even count how many times I've watched a game where one team was leading significantly going into the 4th quarter and ultimately lost the game because instead of playing defence and locking it down, they lobbed and missed 3's for 12 minutes while the other team rebounded and got easy buckets. It's pathetic.

this. we're in a content overload era with entertainment. There's just so many things to watch and do to entertain oneself.

The same problem exists in the nfl. Except for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Do you think there is too much individual play as well? One of the joys of watching basketball, for me, is seeing players working together and understanding each other. I like the idea that the team players actually like each other.

Players don't play, no defense, lack of testicular fortitude. So if the players don't care. Why should the fans care?
Rachel, here's the Billion dollar answer - College.
1. People want to watch a young sensation come into the NBA and see what happens when the new great talent hits the old great talent. (Kareem vs Wilt, Shaq vs. Robinson, Hakeem, etc )
2. Colleges are the most entrenched and best pools for developing rivalries. (Magic, Bird)
3. College fan bases will follow the very best players, being even more attached from having known them as so great so young (Caitlin)
4. Of course there are outliers who skyrocket in the NBA (Jordan) or truly had enough talent to go straight in after HS (Kobe), but they are not the rule and people don't want to watch potential development in the pros.
5. Caitlin Clark just reminded everybody of this, and while women's basketball is unique as she broke the college Monopoly with the best amateur fan base of iowa, she still reminded everybody that college is the best place to build a fandom and then bring fans to the pros
@@destinypirate I think that's silly. Why didn't that happen for the hundreds of women before Caitlyn clark

I stopped watching the NBA 10 years ago and Never looked back. What we're seeing now, I saw it coming then through that collective bargaining agreement. The inmates are running the asylum.
Priorities. If I have to pay to watch, I don’t watch. I grew up in the day when tv was free and you didn’t have to buy a special package to watch your team. Now I have more free time, and money, and that’s working out just fine.
It's ironic that I quit watching the NBA when 40% or more of the shots were 3's. For quite awhile I was DVR'ing the games and only watching the 4th quarter when they actually start playing defense.
The nba now is really a big joke. Players doesnt need to be serious about the 82 games, they are gonna be paid millions no matter what. fans are bored with this nba we have now.
I loved basketball when there were 2 big men 3 in the back court less 3s and more defense.
I might be "out of touch" at least thats what im attacked with. Watching teams just running up the court and shooting 3s is boring it just is. There is no inside game unless its a fast break.

The game has gotten expensive, but I think it's worth it if it means seeing our favorite players get the bag as a result. They deserve it
Yes they should lower the ticket prices
The refs calling fouls for the most benign shit too. I’m tired of them having to stop play for that
It's a combination of reasons, but my thoughts as the main reason is that todays NBA Superstar is not playing with the energy that Kobe, T-Mac, MJ, Shaq, KG, Duncan, or D.Wade use to bring.
Kobe use to say" and you can catch interviews with these words coming out of his mouth "I play every game for the fans, the kids in the nose bleed seats, because I use to be that kid."
Look at the NBA All-Star Game, it use to be a badge of Honor not only to be selected, but you where representing the East or West, your Team, your City, and if anything the players use to turn up in the 4th quarter to win the game.
The day david stern took over was the day the NBA lost its integrity. He’s the reason it’s the wwe now.

Then agents ensure no other team can draft Bronny without being blacklisted. If my team wanted a player, but didn't have the draft pick to get him, they would have to trade up in the draft. Not the Lakers.
@@notanothershrubbery Stop that gossip nonsense! The game of basketball has been about attacking the rim and in the occasion 3s for the specialists and great shooters. 3-point competitions were for all-star games. Edwards is taking over 10 3s per game , are you paying to watch that??
@@tellall23 lol. Don't force others to your narrative when there are many reasons people stop watching.
@@headspear19 sounds like you follow the game more for the gossips(LeBron's son blah blah) than the actual game..last night Ant took 24 shots: 14 of them were 3s
She's absolutely right. I've been a die hard NBA fan my whole life and have completely lost interest
Only care about Caitlin at this point.
The refs aren’t calling very much anymore … not traveling, not the unnecessary physical contact. Who wants to watch an unfair, poorly officiated game?
I haven’t even caught an nba game all season. Used to be hyped to watch every year. I just tune in on playoffs now
Game just doesn't have any soul anymore. Statistically they are playing the most efficient ball possible. Just not compelling to watch cause they aren't allowed to guard eachother. It's just a roll of the dice who has a hotter night from three... Rachel is as wonderful as ever though
Who used to be your favorite team
162 3’s between 2 games isn’t the problem (necessarily). The COMPLETE lack of defense is. The regular season is starting to become all star game effort level.
They need to go back to 90's NBA rules or this shit will continue to slide.
Nothing about the NBA regular season feels urgent. Most games end up being a race to 120 points, lots of teams play the same way (5-out, iso, high pick and roll), and the load management stuff over the last few years has turned fans off of the product (even with the in-season tourney and 65-game minimum). I love hoops but it's not motivating to watch unless one of my favorite teams is playing.
This isn't basketball anymore. There isn't any real talent out there. These guys couldn't hold the old timers jock straps. I haven't watched this crap in over ten years
I'll make it simple Politics.
It's because people are tired of Lebum James
I would say that those around LJ are stubborn about wanting to impose him like a goat, something absurd and impossible at this point in his career.
Basketball has become unwatchable. No coaching anymore, star players run the team
The NBA needs to lower their rims.
It is too hard for Jokic, the MVP, to dunk consistently.
With lowered rims, maybe even the MVP can dunk all the time.
(Yes, Jokic posterized ANT-man and that was like the best dunk last year)
This has got to be a joke
Great idea lol, i'll start watching again when they can do 720 windmills and front flip east bay dunks.
This is great. You need to be a host on the Daily Show
@TheDisruptiveOne
lol That's funny.
They let guys travel to the basket without even thinking of taking one dribble. The players are all friends and dictate where they want to play.
