People seem to forget that the player empowerment era was ushered in by Lebron and there were tons of articles written about how Lebron and a few other players were the ones urging Silver to change the rules to legislate defense out of the league. Then once gambling was let in it completely destroyed the game. And who is doing DraftKings ads? Lebron. Who is doing FanDuel ads? KD.

I work at a bar in Vegas and it’s almost impossible during the NFL or NHL season to find anyone who cares about the NBA. They wont play the games at work unless theres no NFL or NHL. Basketballs always been my favorite but I learned early on people, especially white people, dont watch the NBA. I’m 40 now and its so much harder to watch nowadays. It’s just constant 3 pointers. I saw a sat the other night Boston put up 50 threes in ONE GAME?
This makes me completely understand why people dont want to watch the NBA and honestly after watching the WNBA last season, I felt they played a much more organic, fundamental type of basketball. The NBA feels…like teams found a meta and exploited it. There’s no passion. Everyones friends. The WNBA got women beating the crap out of each other and the dudes are getting dinner together…kind of sad

Historically more offense means more eyeballs across all sports. I'm not convinced its the increased scoring that is hurting the NBA. I think the "player empowerment" era has been a disaster. Players can sit and pout and demand trades, abandoning their team and the fans, and they get rewarded with 200 million plus dollar contracts. Load management has only further exposed how little the regular season means to the "competitors" of today. If it's obvious how little the players and teams care about the competition, why should the fans care? They shouldn't. The modern iteration of the All-Star game is a perfect microcosm of todays competitive environment. Back in the day there was pride on the line. Not only did the players want to win, they wanted bragging rights over their peers. They players simply put had competitive pride. Now? Not so much. Now it's about creating your brand and getting your paper. Generationally wealthy players don't give a shit and all the corporate wankers in the expensive seats are just looking for hits on their Instagram accounts. Make player salaries dependent on team wins and games played and sell the first 30 rows in every arena to die hard working class fans and the product will turn around in a flash.
TL; DR - it's not about offense, it's about competitive spirit. It's not a coincidence that the poster child of this era is LeBron, the most fake competitor among the all-timers. LeBron has skills and athleticism for days, but he's all about being a billionaire entrepreneur not about being a dawg. Shout out for his hometown philanthropy but I'm glad he never played for my team.

Barely any superstar now plays 81 games when before players would miss like 3-5 games at most and many would play the entire season. These millionaires with crazy paychecks sitting out sends the wrong image of entitlement. Also, if you tie a players salary to team wins and how many days he's available on the court to play you would fix this problem immediately. That would give real incentive for players to compete and deter Ben Simmons type of situations where players just coast because they have over $100M guaranteed in the bank

The NBA Court lacks Defense. And the offense seems to be the bigger picture here.
Nowadays it's that hard to just get in front of the player with the ball a make sure he does not score however you can, let alone having backup to help you (Double Team).
It's just the Offense everybody focuses on developing and promoting.
    In other words:
Talentless when Defending or without the ball.
Strentgh comes back when the ball is in the player's hands.

It's the same with every facet of our society...
Something is broken... it's perfectly obvious why it's broken... but everybody wants to pretend it's 20 different things causing the problem and discuss those irrelevant things endlessly... while ignoring the reality

It is not only the lack of defense, these “0 step/gather step” rules, players allowed to blatantly carry/palm on every “hesi” and crossover. It makes guys like Ja Morant and many others unstoppable .

1).Let them play defense. Bring back hand checking. 2).Eliminate defensive and offensive 3 seconds.
    3).Penalize flopping with an ejection.
4).Stop giving techs when players show emotions.
5).get your main broadcaster(espn) to care about your sport
This is where i would start.

I had to go back and listen to LeBron say he has to learn how to flop. I listened a few times and he really said it! hilarious The King of flops saying that.

Euroleague has a lot going for it. Better defense and every game counts. Real clubs, real fans, real passion. In the NBA the regular season is like a long round of exhibition matches, with little defense while tickets are overpriced and every few years a team is moved to another city hoping to make more bucks there.

The rebound and assist stat is watered down too, defensive rebounds are way too easy to get with everyone on offense hangin around the 3 line , and the nba will give u an assist for simply passing the ball to the player who eventually scores even if they do all the work dribble drive lose their defender etc you'll get the assist

    Ive always had this idea...
They should be allowed to be full on hand check/be more physical or in some capacity allowed to guard the 3 if they have the ball and are beyond the arc.
Anything within is regular rules we know currently.
Can somehow reduce the value of 3 launches

I think adding in some FIBA rules will help. The Olympics were great and a lot of that was due to more physical defense. I like 3pt shooting but we have way too many players shooting it way too much and not being efficient. The worst part is that coaches are also pushing this as well. We need a coach to step up and start changing how they play and prove that a balanced attack is more effective. All they have to do is just increase defense and spread the media out better. The NBA patches on to a couple of players and those are the only ones they ever mention.

After a team attempts more than 15 to 20(somewhere in this range) 3pt shots then 3pt range shots should only count 2pts if made.. That should be the 1st rule to be implemented because watching every team in the league chuck insane amount of 3s is just ruining the sport from a viewership perspective.

@@EDTheOneable you don’t sound like a shooter… but someone did have an interesting suggestion in limiting time spent beyond the three-point range

I'm only 15 I started watching basketball in 2017. The NBA has changed so much since there used to always be 80-90 points in every playoff game even the warriors' games. I barely watch basketball games anymore TBH because they suck. I watched opening night Boston vs my Knicks and that game was an absolute shit show all what I saw was both teams chucking up 3 after 3 after 3 it was impossible to watch the only other game, I watched besides that one was the Mavs warriors' game (because that was iconic). I used to watch at least 100 basketball games per season from 2017-2022 now probably less than 10. I'd rather practice chucking up 3s in my backyard. Curry back in the day was one of the most nostalgic things I remember, now we have FREAKING 7,4 guys chucking up more 3s Than prime Curry. The NBA took it way too far and I'll never be a full-time fan anymore Thank you Adam Silver Thank you Uncut hoops 2010s basketballs the goat.

Damn. It's pretty bad when a 15 year old thinks the game is too soft now. Imagine how us older fans feel. In the 2005 NBA Finals it was achievement for either the Spurs or Pistons to break 85 points. Some people thought that series was boring but I thought it was super intense because every possession mattered.

@ I saw the highlights but that was a boring series to watch because of how limited offense is also almost all casual fans think the nba is to soft and doesn’t play defense for shit it’s right in front of our eyes I just watched the bucks game all what I’m seeing is 0 defense and 3 point spam it’s so sad it’s like watching the all star game 🤣
