or its the fact that the game had to evolve and has become a lot more efficient. every team now has 2 to maybe 4 players that can shoot 38 to 42 percent from the 3 point line and the averages for those percentages compared to 2s would be around 56 to 60 percent fg. the 3 point shot is allowing players that are not as athletic to be far more effective, the game has gone from being athletic or just straight up big to players actually requiriing skill to compete. i dont see anything wrong with that...like a decade or 2 ago there were barely any players that even shot off the dribble,nowadays alost every body can do it. players now can just do far far more stuff than back then, idk how that is a bad thing its basically comparing sword fighting to guns. yes one style might be more pleasing to the fans but it doesnt make it better.

NBA needs dynasties. It's always flourished most when stars stack up chips and compete to be legends. Wilt vs Bill Russell, Magic vs Bird, MJ vs everybody, kobe vs Duncan, and most recently lebron vs curry. Right now because of parity in the league there aren't two stars representing the product. There are several stars who are dimming out the spotlight and it's hard to follow or care unless you are an avid super fan.

The NBA is unwatchable because 1. Too many blowout games 2. Refs calling fouls like crazy. Flagrant fouls and techs for players showing emotions. If your call a tech on a player who shows emotions based on your wrong call, then the players won't care or play hard. 3. The NBA has made it hard for fans to watch the game. If you have a league pass for $16.99 a month, you can't watch your local games and Espn games ridiculous 🙄. 4. Load management and coaches sitting players once the team is down by 15 points with 3 minutes to go in the 4th. 5. When you listen to the players' address games the lose they always downplay it . The NBA was must see from around 1984-2004. That is the golden age of NBA basketball. I love Steph as a player, but his style of play is terrible for the game. You don't have to spend 100 a month to watch NFL games. However, every nba game is only on cable tv. Ppl no longer are paying for cable. So if ppl dont have cable how can they watch the games. The future of sports is on streaming services. If i could pay 5 dollars a game to watch the game i want....viewership and revenue will go up. Everybody had nicknames that was connected to their personality and there was a ton of cross branding endorsements that connected the NBA to the wider culture. Wheaties, Mcdonalds, Hanes, Looney toons, these are some of the things that made the NBA of the 90's so special. Also there was no social media. The NBA peaked in the 90's and its not coming back.

Baseball is up because of the pitch clock and the Yankees facing the Dodgers in the World Series. Heck, even the Mets being in the playoffs helped a lot.

As someone who is quite conservative and who has loved basketball and the NBA since the late 80s…I couldn’t give a rats ass about the politics. It’s the garbage product they’re putting out on the floor…and YES…it’s got a ton to do with the fact that they’re shooting WAY too many 3s…among many many other things.
Several factors. 1. The over reliance on the 3 point shot. 2. Position less rosters. Why play a 7'0 beast with a dominating paint presence when you can just put a 6'7 guy who can shoot 3s? 3. Lack of competition. 4. Bad product on defense. 5. All Star showcase is a joke now.

It wasn’t a singular thing that ruined the game. Load management, too many games on tv, Adam Silver, refs, all star weekend, ridiculous contracts, no defense and minimal mid range.
The 3 point shot has turned the game into a 3 pt shooting contest. There are no fast breaks anymore cause everyone standing at the 3 point lead can get back on defense. Its a bad product. NBA has to make radical changes. Increase the size of the court and move the 3 pt shot back so only a handful of guys can make it. Let the players, with the bigger court and space, show off their athleticism with one on one moves to basket and more fast breaks.

This runs deeper than just "politics" The issue is, there is too much service and not enough demand. 82 game season, why would a casual fan want to watch a NBA game, when they can just scroll on tiktok or youtube or even just wait till later on in the season because its so long. I myself only watch lakers games because of the Lebron. Back in the day there were limited forms of entertainment, and one of the key forms of entertainment that society could lean on, was sports, heavily favoring the NBA because of Michael Jordan. The NBA blueprint wont work in this day in age.

There are many factors like competing with the football season, competing with streaming services like Netflix, watching highlights instead actually games. Also, kids would rather be on social media, play video games, or watch RUclips than NBA games
In my opinion the ratings have suffered partly because none of the stars inspire us with their mentalities. The majority of stars either 1. Play no defense or 2. Self promote or play media mind games like lebron. Kobe Mj and Larry Bird captivated us because their will and mentality was something to behold.

You heard it here first. An easy solution. If I was commissioner, I would devalue the 3pt shot by making all current 2 pointners count as 3 points and current 3 pointers count as 4pts. This will definitely encourage more mid-range and paint area scorings. More posting up, more cuts, more passes more pick-n- roll. Currently you need to shoot very bad 33% 3pt FG (2 of 6 =6 points) on threes to easily equalize very hard to achieve 50% shootings from 2s (3 of 6 = 6 points). Now redo the math counting threes for 4pt at 33% ( 2 of 6 = 8pts), and 2pointers 50%FG for 3 points (3of6=9pts). Now how good do you have to shoot the new 4pointers to equalize the new 3pointers counting system? new 4 pointers 37.5%FG (3of8=12pts) to equalize the new 3pointers 50%FG (4of8=12pts) The last couple of years the NBA league 3pt FG average is around 37.5% and 2pt FG average is 54.5% which the 3pt shot has a huge advantage. The new 4/3point system will give the mid-range game a slight edgeand make watching the game fun again.

The game looks great because guys like Steph & Lebron are competing in the cup 1 month into the season. Super teams have always been a thing. Houston rockets w Barkley, Hakeem & Drexler, Miami Big 3, Boston Big 3, Shaq & Kobe lost w Gary Payton & Karl Malone still in capable shape (GP ended up winning w the Heat who was also a crazy team: White Chocolate, the Glove, Alonzo Mouring, Posey, Antoine Walker). Rivalries are still a thing. But this is 2025 where everyone played with everyone since AAU days. It’s specifically load management from Embiid, Kawhi, etc…. Golden State’s roster today is fun to watch & a lot of it is w Steph playing 29 minutes a game. They’re going 12 deep in the roster. OKC, Boston, Sacramento, Charlotte. The NBA is unwatchable because
1. Too many blowout games
2. Refs calling fouls like crazy. Flagrant fouls and techs for players showing emotions. If your call a tech on a player who shows emotions based on your wrong call, then the players won't care or play hard.
3. The NBA has made it hard for fans to watch the game. If you have a league pass for $16.99 a month, you can't watch your local games and Espn games ridiculous 🙄.
4. Load management and coaches sitting players once the team is down by 15 points with 3 minutes to go in the 4th.
5. When you listen to the players' address games the lose they always downplay it . Oh, it's just the beginning of the season, meaning the fans shouldn't care either.
6. I caught myself loving hockey way more than basketball now, and i think it's because of the loss of physicality in the NBA

Everybody had nicknames that was connected to their personality and there was a ton of cross branding endorsements that connected the NBA to the wider culture. Wheaties, Mcdonalds, Hanes, Looney toons, these are some of the things that made the NBA of the 90's so special. Also there was no social media. The NBA peaked in the 90's and its not coming back.

As someone who is quite conservative and who has loved basketball and the NBA since the late 80s…I couldn’t give a rats ass about the politics. It’s the garbage product they’re putting out on the floor…and YES…it’s got a ton to do with the fact that they’re shooting WAY too many 3s…among many many other things.

1. The over reliance on the 3 point shot.

The 3 point shot has turned the game into a 3 pt shooting contest. There are no fast breaks anymore cause everyone standing at the 3 point lead can get back on defense. Its a bad product. NBA has to make radical changes. Increase the size of the court and move the 3 pt shot back so only a handful of guys can make it. Let the players, with the bigger court and space, show off their athleticism with one on one moves to basket and more fast breaks.

You heard it here first. An easy solution. If I was commissioner, I would devalue the 3pt shot by making all current 2 pointners count as 3 points and current 3 pointers count as 4pts. This will definitely encourage more mid-range and paint area scorings. More posting up, more cuts, more passes more pick-n- roll. Currently you need to shoot very bad 33% 3pt FG (2 of 6 =6 points) on threes to easily equalize very hard to achieve 50% shootings from 2s (3 of 6 = 6 points).
Now redo the math counting threes for 4pt at 33% ( 2 of 6 = 8pts), and 2pointers 50%FG for 3 points (3of6=9pts).
Now how good do you have to shoot the new 4pointers to equalize the new 3pointers counting system?
new 4 pointers 37.5%FG (3of8=12pts) to equalize the new 3pointers 50%FG (4of8=12pts)
The last couple of years the NBA league 3pt FG average is around 37.5% and 2pt FG average is 54.5% which the 3pt shot has a huge advantage. The new 4/3point system will give the mid-range game a slight edgeand make watching the game fun again.

-Regular season became irrelevant after KD joined the warriors.
- games are 3 pointers and fouls ONLY
- stars sit out randomly for big games
- Divisions are meaningless
- no rivalries exist that are great
- it’s a superstar league, most fans root for a certain player not teams.
KD joined the warriors and LeBron joined the heat. I watched the Spurs beat them then LeBron moved teams and you just saw him make his teams. That is when I stopped watching because the NBA tried to push him to the top.

ive seen many suggestions how to fix NBA, the only one i believe would work is to put slightly smaller courts like the ones they use in Olympics because then you can actually defend... and remove 3 sec violation

There are certain players that need it, and others that notion is imposed by the team. Most players WANT to play. Teams used to load manage for an 82 game season, but that’s also starting to change because the NBA cup has very drastic implications & incentives to compete. Competition is bigger than ever. The game looks great because guys like Steph & Lebron are competing in the cup 1 month into the season. Super teams have always been a thing. Houston rockets w Barkley, Hakeem & Drexler, Miami Big 3, Boston Big 3, Shaq & Kobe lost w Gary Payton & Karl Malone still in capable shape (GP ended up winning w the Heat who was also a crazy team: White Chocolate, the Glove, Alonzo Mouring, Posey, Antoine Walker). Rivalries are still a thing. But this is 2025 where everyone played with everyone since AAU days. It’s specifically load management from Embiid, Kawhi, etc…. Golden State’s roster today is fun to watch & a lot of it is w Steph playing 29 minutes a game. They’re going 12 deep in the roster. OKC, Boston, Sacramento, Charlotte. All fun teams to watch & some aren’t even contenders.
