Lilja Haatainen was born in Kempele in northern Finland in 2011. She started playing the violin at the age of three using the Suzuki method, and at the age of six she took violin lessons at Oulu Concervatory. In 2019 Lilja was accepted to the Finnish Violin Academy for young talented violinists and studied with Janne Malmivaara and Elina Vähälä. She currently lives in Porvoo, is in the 5th grade of school and studies violin at the Porvoo Institute of Music. At the age of 8 she made her debut as a soloist with the Oulu Symphony Orchestra. In 2021, Lilja was invited to perform at the Young Soloists Concert with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, the 11-year-old also performed with the Lappeenranta Symphony Orchestra and the Finland Chamber Orchestra. Lilja won first prize in her category at the Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition in Finland in 2022.

Lilja was having a lot of fun. I hope she got to choose this composer and this concerto. Playing Morzart for an audience would be a spectacular experience. She is a fantastic violinist.

Her tempo is slightly off compared to the orchestra in several places. Rushed or too slow. Otherwise, nice playing.
"Otherwise" is by far the greatest part of her playing. It is called live music.
She is directing the tempo, but the orchestra is not following her!

That's true. Children at this ages mostly play these violins with this size. I can remember that I played such a violin myself when I was 12.
Now she has a 4/4 violin. Her sound is so mature so beautiful. Thanks 🎉
Beyond belief!
Shame on that conductor for dragging the orchestra at a slower tempo and not following the soloist more. It was clear she wanted to take the tempo a bit more briskly.
Came here to say the same. She indicated immediately that his tempo was not what she wanted and he either didn’t pick up on it or ignored her.
