Instead of recognising the soloists through their playing, I recognised it through the blurred preview instead.. they're so iconic I can recognise them even when blurred :D Also..... THEY'RE BACH!!!!
I was lucky enough to see both Augustin Hadelich and James Ehnes play in the past 6 months. They were truly amazing live and I urge everyone who has a chance to go see either of them. Augustin did a Q&A before his concert and not only is he an incredible violinist, he also seems like a genuinely nice and thoughtful guy. (I also love this kind of video)
He is my #1 Ranked because of the expressive/melodic choices but hard to put anyone above Hilary and there are so many others like Chloe, Augustin, María Dueñas, and of course Roman Kim are all top tier players
The best Classical Music RUclips Channel is BACH!!! Twoset with their violins appreciating classical music is all I need!!! Saved my day😭 And bro, show us what you've practiced! Dont be shy! Really want to hear you guys play more!
I rarely write comments, but this time I just want to say how happy I am that I'm watching a new Twoset video after almost 2 weeks. I'm getting married in a couple of days and of top of that I have to make a big presentation at work the day before, so you cannot imagine how nervous I am. You don't know how much I needed this video in my life right now 😂 Thank you for all the joy you bring to the world with your work, guys ❤
It was either 1980 or 1981 I and the whole Music Center (Los Angeles) audience were seated awaiting to hear Itzhak Perlman play, never showed, then after waiting a long time someone came out to let us know Mr. Perlman was at the hospital while his daughter was being born, we all came back a few months later, Mr. Perlman before beginning to play apologized to us for the delay, he's a very nice person.
4:16 was not expecting that beautiful of a tone for an unplanned demonstration :0 i really really wish brett would do a better quality recording of his tschaik;-; i've rewatched the 2mil live so many times now and every time i grieve the quality
Did u guys see? 🤣 when bretts Mendelssohn was playing, bretts gut was telling him theres something sus about it and he looked at eddy 3 times probably thinking, "are they pranking me...?" But when eddy looked at him he pretended like he was just listening🤣 so much suspiciousness around the mendy part
A little complaint from a big fan of your channel: you guys always review/react to almost same list of "mainstream" violinists. It would be great to see your reactions to some baroque playing. For example, it would be interesting to see your opinion about performances of Shunske Sato (e.g. unusual performance of Bach's Chaconne, a controversial "drunk" interpretation of Vivaldi's Autumn, etc.) , Cynthia Freivogel with Voices of Music (IMO the best Vivaldi's Winter), Voices of Music in general (their great Bach's Air on G string, for example).
This is such a nice video to just listen to! I'm walking back home with this video on, and I can appreciate multiple virtuosos' playings, listen to Brett and Eddy talking, and listen to Brett and Eddy's playing all in the same video!! Love it!! Twoset can always put a smile on my face!! (Back to walking lol)
I love all your videos but I just wanted to say that this one was super engaging. I watched it three times and played along making my own rankings and thinking about the different performances. I'm not a musician and sometimes it's hard to play along with the other guessing games without much musical knowledge, but I really enjoyed being able to "participate" in this video. Thanks for all you do!
James Ehnes got mentioned!!!! My fellow Manitoban absolutely shredding. Saw him live, he is definitely underrated. He is just so clear and musical as well
Can't believe that there is a ysaye 6 recording I like better than Hadelich's, which I've listened to a million times! I can't believe how seamless and connected Ehnes makes those insane chord runs sound 😍
Agreed on a majority for best - and I liked Brett's Mendelssohn the most. Some 30 years ago there was a radio show where they had just one work with 4-6 anonymous recordings and a follow up after a few days where the recordings were discussed and revealed. Remember a fantastic Carmen, outstanding of the five - turned out to be an amateur!
I really appreciate this video. For people who do not listen to classical on a regular basis, it all sounds the same but listening to these different interpretations ack to back really highlights the strengths and personalities of each player.
omg guys, I've just discovered you two from the professional vs beginner video with Hilary, Simone, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and the Sydney Opera House and I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU GUYS AND WHAT YOU'RE CREATING! :D Omg! For realz - this is such pure joy, wholesomeness and art in one - I. LOVE. IT.
Hilary's church recital with the likes of Paganiniana and Erlkonig is among my favourite videos to not just listen to, but watch. I managed to identify that even though my eyes were closed, and upon rewatching, I realised how obvious the hints made some of the rounds :) Thanks for the video dads!~
Funny how I don’t play the violin and only have been watching Twoset for 8 months now, but even I recognized Brett’s Mendelssohn 💜 (within 2 bars actually)
To think that I only found twoset a few months ago, and with them, classical music... and now today I can guess most of these based on the blurred hints cause of how much classical I've been absorbing since truly speaks volumes to twoset's influence. my ear isn't yet trained to quite guess the soloist by ear yet.
Great video idea! I enjoyed it! A suggestion though -- the editing here felt rushed, and I had to rewind several times to catch what was said. It would also be helpful to include the soloists' names in the reveals for us non-musicians trying to learn!
I was at the concert where the James Ehnes chaconne from this recording came from - that’s koerner hall in Toronto. I was immediately hooked. Since then, I’ve been to 6 more of his concerts - he’s mind blowing every time. IMO, the greatest living violinist right now. Couldn’t recommend him enough.
Eddy and Brett,I’ve watched you for about two years, and since then, you’ve inspired me followed by musicians around the world,it has been my dream to become a musician that learns multiple instruments, sometimes,I feel like giving up,but you guys always bring my mood up and make me keep practising.I really love you guys❤❤
i love this type of video! have always rewatched the guessing the violinist episode you did before. i enjoy listening to the nuances and how you explain them
I always knew I liked Augustin Hadelich, but now I really do. The one performance out of ALL of them that really stood out to me was his. Although I'd love to have heard you react to Pine's 24th Caprice. She has a super muscley sound, and it's unlike anything I've ever heard. It may be an acquired taste, but I absolutely love that beefy, savory tone she has.
My preferences: Beethoven - Perlman Tchaikovsky - Heifetz Mozart - Capuçon Brahms - Oistrakh Bach - Ehnes Paganini - B 9:08 (didn't name) Mendelssohn - A 9:40 (didn't name) Ysaye - Ehnes Brahms - Kavakos If anyone knows who those 2 unnamed soloists were, please let me know so I can listen to them 🙏
i love videos like this! especially trying to "hear what you're hearing" by reading your facial expressions, i feel like i'm learning a lot about phrasing, intonation & other styles just by hearing your guys' feedback on these soloists! i haven't played & been in a classical music space for about a decade now but your videos make me quite nostalgic & are slowly bringing back the understanding of violin that i used to have; you guys are awesome 😄
I’m teaching myself how to read and play/sing music again after quite a few years and I forgot how enjoyable it is. It’s like using a secret language between myself and my instruments💖 Thank you Twoset for inspiring us all to practice hard and do our best❣️
Hey guys. I know you probably get this alot but i am such a huge fan. I play violin and have been for 2 years. I used to hate practicing but you guys taught me how to love classical music and now my goal is to become a violin teacher and even maybe a professional. I love all of your videos. Ive watched almost every one of them. You guys are my idols! Thank you for everything you've helped me accomplish!
This is the perfect time to tell you guys. I'm entering my first soloist competition this summer. Though, I do need to learn the last 2 movements by myself.
This goes to show the even if the piece is the same, but whoever is playing... makes a huge difference Like their style of when to go loud, or their way of portraying the notes
James Ehnes is a seriously underrated violinist. His Bach and Beethoven are sublime. Also, I'm wondering if you would do the same exercise with some recordings of lesser known/yet unknown violinists. Kerson Leong is a name that comes to mind.
I'm thrilled to see Brett and Eddy with their violins. I hope they have recovered enough from the copy strike crisis that they can play more in their videos. P.S. I love these very educational videos. I have learned to listen more closely to soloists.
Dangit, i’ve just started watching twoset since 2 weeks, and i’ve been racing through every upload, just now i got excited you uploaded a new video, only to find out i’ve watched it already 😢 And, it could be cause i’ve binged so many twoset video’s but Brett’s Mendelssohn was pretty much a dead giveaway from the 3rd note in 😂

How amazing🎉 ı hope ı can watch augustin live
I head James Ehnes live a couple of weeks ago , playing Shumann
I will watch Vengerov AND Augustin on the same day in Sydney in August 😍
I was actually laughing so bad when Mendelssohn popped up and I was like ‘if one of them is Brett’s’ 😭. Eddy constantly looking Brett was so funny

I wish more people knew about James Ehnes, he is undoubtedly one of the greatest violinists around and of all time.
I had to go listen to his full recording of Ysaye 6 after watching this, it was amazing!
I really love his Tchaikovsky Concerto (Sydney Symphony Orchestra)
I jumped when his recordings played since I immediately knew it was James. He's definitely my favourite soloist.
He is my #1 Ranked because of the expressive/melodic choices but hard to put anyone above Hilary and there are so many others like Chloe, Augustin, María Dueñas, and of course Roman Kim are all top tier players

Love Brett's Tchaikovsky recording. His fast upwards chords in the coda is my favorite out of all the ones I've listened to!

I’m not much for deviation from the norm that often, but I adore voices of music
Its always the same pieces too, its getting boring honestly and ive been a fan for years and years
When James Ehnes' Chaconne played I immediately knew it's him.. that's the exact recording that made me a big fan of his playing
Literally! ESPECIALLY because it's live! I'm glad that his recording is getting recognition here.
I love how the editor put Brett's recording in it 😂
