In the interview part of the programme she came through as a very sweet and a very sensible young lady. She's also a synesthesic like Janne Sibelius was, but from what I see, totally without Janne's sensitive nerves.
@@davidmdyer838 This violin looks as if it has already seen a couple of decades, so probably, it is above the average 3/4 student violin quality. That need not diminish her playing ability! Her bow control is obviously way above the average 12 y/o violin student!
@@Fidi987 I didn't say a single negative thing about her playing ability, why the acusation?! All I said is that the instrument is surprisingly good for a 3/4. How do you turn that into a negative?
@@davidmdyer838 Would be nice to know who made it, but it is obviously very good quality and well designed, so doesn't let her down at all. Very impressive. Having known a few luthiers, and learning about the process for my own couple of smaller violas, I do find myself listening to the tone, and she is clearly well satisfied with her abilities to get it singing.
La réponse est dans la question. On emploie souvent le terme génie a tort et à travers. Mais là, il n'y a pas de doute. Il me semble difficile de percer en piano et violon classiques si tu n'es pas un génie. C'est à te dégouter parfois de faire de la musique.
In the adjacent short interview with a Finnish journalist Lilja (12) tells that her favourite composition is Sibelius' Violin Concerto, favourite violinist Izhak Perlman. She practises about three hours every day after school and homework, not too much, as she needs to enjoy practising not to be bored. She would like to become a violinist one day and perform in concerts and as an orchestral soloist. She enjoyed playing with tge Finnish Radio Symphony in this concert very much. The following biography is from the Mikkeli Music Festival programme info: "Lilja Haatainen is a promising young violinist who was born in Kempele in 2011 and is now living in Porvoo. Lilja was three and a half years old when she started playing the violin using the suzuki method, and at the age of six she continued her studies at the Oulu Conservatory. She is currently studying at the Porvoonseudun musiikkiopisto Music School Janne Malmivaara as her teacher and at the Viuluakatemia Academy under the guidance of Janne Malmivaara and Elina Vähälä. Lilja has played as a soloist with the Oulu Sinfonia, the Lappeenranta City Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish Chamber Orchestra and the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra. In the beginning of 2022, Lilja won the series for young violinists of the Jyväskylä violin competition and in October 2022, she was awarded first prize in the Louis Spohr International Competition for Young Violinists in Germany."
Thank you so much Lilja, I really really enjoyed watching and listening to you playing with such great musicality and as professional as Somme one of more than three times your age. You are absolutely extraordinary Lilja and I really really love ❤️ ❤❤❤❤ you’re playing. Bravo 👏 Bravo 👏
Unbelievable virtuosity from such a young prodigy!! A genius!!! It's a shame Stradivari never constructed a 3/4 violin for occasions such as this. This young lady is seriously gifted. Everything that famous concert violinists do, she does. She plays the way Menuhin, Ricci, Rabin, Heifetz, Huberman, and Josefowicz played at that age. I wonder how it is I never heard of her, despite my keeping up with everything that goes on in the violin world. I hear about Russian and Asian prodigies all the time but, I missed her somehow.... Thanks so much for posting this!!! (That Wieniawski etude was one of my favorites. I had a recording by David and Igor Oistrakh but I lost it.)
Don't worry I did not know of her either. I hardly follow Finnish media. This was her 2nd appearance with a symphony orchestra in addition to some young soloists' concert. I let the Sibelius Violin competition go as well, since they discriminated against two Russian competitors who had already been selected.
This young lady is new to me, but I must say I am very impressed with her playing. It is also refreshing that she hails from that part of the world. Most young violinists seem to come from Asia these days.
Yes, she knows the structure of the piece intimately - where the soloist leads and where the orchestra leads - and makes minute adjustments accordingly . . .
Me pregunto qué tipo de educación habrá recibido para tocar éstas piezas de manera magistral a tan corta edad, obviando el talento innato. Hay quien habla de la reencarnación ante casos como éstos. No me lo explico.
Violin soloists never use the score. Lilja said she begins practicing a piece playing it slowly and while she increases the speed ("I like fast playing" she also said) she also memorizes the piece by heart.

Wonderful! The virtuosity is ready to the normal size violin some day. I have never heard or enjoyed so much about 3/4 violin sound. Thank you for this document!

I kind of feel sorry for the experienced violinists in the orchestra. To think they have spent their whole careers studying and performing only to be out done by a child. She is extraordinary!

Extraordinarily rich and vibrant tone for 75% of a normal-sized violin ... what a talent and a future for this young artist. All the best Lilja.
Well-designed instrument- the overall size is less of a problem if the luthier knows his/her stuff with the initial construction.
How in the world can she make a 3/4 violin sound like that!?! She already has enriched my music listening journey. Will be following her from now on.
I was curious about the violin, I thought it sounded fantastic before I knew it was 3/4.
Right? I make my 4/4 violin sound like 1/16

More than talented. She is a true genius.
