He looks an awful lot like Charlie Bucket from the Charlie and Chocolate Factory from 1971 (not the 2000's remake) and this game is supposed to have a 70's vibe inherited from what is now called Oddity. He's using the red sweater too.
@@acecanti4175 Actually it wasn't DMCA'd, they said they were scared it would be because Pokemon Uranium and Another Metroid 2 Remake had gotten DMCA'd shortly before. It ended up being a timely excuse since there was clearly already a rebrand in progress at the time of announcement.
I really want to feel hyped for this, but honestly after Oddity it's hard to feel the same, specially after waiting for so long and still not receiving any updates. I'm really glad the Mother 4 dream is still alive though, and I'm sure I'll get more attached to this one the more I learn about it. I hope this gets as popular as Oddity, because at this point it has a far better chance at actually releasing.
Even though they're different games, Toby Fox has filled in the Mother vacancy in spectacular fashion for ME. If this ends up becoming a reality, it's icing on the cake.

I love how in Mother 1 and 2, the protagonists, are similar. Just like how in Mother 3 and 4, the protagonists are similar. And to top it off, Oddity and Mother: Beyond Bounds; have similar protagonists making it almost like a double trilogy.

@@OBigFloppaOFC Thankfully, Nintendo doesn't own the rights to the franchise; they just own the original trilogy and some licensing rights. Shigesato Itoi owns the franchise, and Nintendo won't do anything with their half of the Mother license without Itoi-san's input.

the “og” mother 4 was rebranded because the team felt held back creatively having to stay on brand, not because of a nintendo dmca. it was their own choice to rebrand. the rights for the series primarily fall under hobonichi, the company it’s creator works for. unless they decide to have say in fan projects, there is no fear of this project ever facing legal troubles. shigesato itoi encourages fan creations and hobonichi has even collaborated with fan artist to make the pollyanna art book which celebrated the series anniversary.
1. OG Mother 4 rebranded because of lack of creative freedom AND concerns over DMCA takedowns. This was stated in the rebrand announcement. 2. Nintendo doesnt need the permission of other co-owners to sue for infrigement, they don't even have to inform Hobonichi or Itoi that they are doing so. It is their right as a co-owner. 3. Itoi said it'd be impossible for him to make Mother 4 and he welcomes someone else do it. That "someone else" would be a new director. Acting as if what he said implies he's giving fans free rein to do whatever they want with his IP is taking what he said massively out of context. There is a big difference between collabing with artists to create an officially licensed piece of media and allowing an unlicensed piece of media infringing on their copyright to exist. Not saying it is likely that Nintendo or Itoi will come after them though, in all honestly I'm sure the project will be fine and I still wish the devs the best because what they've created looks stellar.

I really hope people dont hound you guys for updates and what not. Same shit happened with Oddity, sure it sucks ppl had to keep getting their hopes up just to be let down, but it's a fan game made in devs free time that they aren't getting paid for, they dont owe anyone shit yet ppl still get so entitled. It's honestly kind of disgusting how entitled people can get to something they didn't even work on or put money in to. This project looks really good so i hope it can come to fruition, the aesthetic is spot on; great sprite work and designs, feels like the natural progress of the series even if it's unofficial.

I wasn't sure about this project at first but after watching the trailer again I better appreciate all the passion and effort you put into this. The music is excellent, the environments look solid, there's some super creative enemy designs here and what we do see of the dialogue is pretty great. This looks really gorgeous, even hitting that nostalgic point with the music and style that represents Mother/EB. I've been waiting for Oddity release, ever since the first few instances of 2014 when it was shown, but it's been nothing since, besides a small update. I'm hoping that this game can come out, fully flourishing into it's own thing, there may be other games out there that help feel the void, but it's been do long since we've gotten anything EB or Mother related. I can't wait to see how the project goes, and including some updates later down the line, it looks fantastic so far.
I feel like this game is an SCP; Anyone who, corporation or not, tries to develop and release this game ends up dying or having something happen to them that makes them abandon working on it anymore. Maybe that's why we still haven't got mother4 yet. Especially considering the fact that there seems to be a morse code message hidden at 2:53 and 3:09 during the trailer. I haven't decoded them yet, but I hope someone does it if they're reading this comment.
Don't worry about legal issues as with Kirby and mother for some reason those fangames don't get taken down. Itoi has said he doesn't mind fangames in interviews but for Hal I have no idea if they care or not

Tbh idk how you decide to handle the soundtrack but i'm not a fan of the "no leitmotiv" way to handle music of shane mesa. Don't get me wrong, he creates massives bangers, but the mother series really have a strong connection with the way it keeps some melodies through many differents musics that makes us attached to them. I'd love to be able to get that feeling again from new melodies/songs and such in mother 4
@@reese3141 indeed, but still Mesa talked in interview about his style and not really doing leitmotivs. Just two songs sharing one melody... Is not enough for me. Mother 3 litterally proved me how much we can twist a few melodies to create a much bigger impact. It's not dramatic to not reach the same amount of course... But just a bit more would be appreciated

*THEORY:* Mother 4 takes places in a new universe that was created when Lucas pulled the final needle. Everyone in Mother 3 when the needle was pulled now take slightly different appearances and names and lost their memory from the past universe. Aaron is indeed Lucas. Aaron/Lucas goes on an adventure to "uncover ancient history" a.k.a. the events of Mother 3 and bring back everyones memories. The character Jared (shown on one of the Mother 4 website screenshots) is actually Claus. When the needle was pulled it brought back the dead people including Claus and Hinawa into the new universe. Take this theory made in literally 5 minute with a grain of salt though lol, I don't even actually fully believe it just wild speculation from me. In reality, Aaron just looks alot like Lucas because Ness looks a lot like Ninten and theres nothing more than that.
I kinda wanted Maggie to be the tools dependent no psi party member since that role almost always falls on male characters and her design screams that to me, but still she gotta be one of my favorite fan design right alongside Floyd from Oddity as designs that you don't really see in Mother but fits perfectly in.
Oh one suggestion, i can see that Troy is an assassin, or a physical attacker with physical skills, so it would be an excellent idea for his skills to have original animations that make sense with his weapon, like the classic slash attack from rpg's, something like that, because attacks with personalized actions without animation 2:16 looks empty without personality, i hope someone in charge read this

I personally think Mother 3 was a perfect ending to the series as it closes ties that Mother 1 and Mother 2 created. This game could be amazing if it took place say during the White Ship Incident as the game progresses it explains more of what caused the white ship incident and the beginning of Tazmilly Civilization. We'll see once trailers airs in 3 days (from this comment being posted.) Who knows the game might just take place in an entirely different universe than the one Mother 1,2, and 3 takes place in so we'll see
I can see it being similar to Steel Ball Run and JoJolion in the sense that even though they don’t take place in the same universe after Stone Ocean/Mother 3, they still follow-up with a brand new plot, setting, and characters.

I really hope people dont hound you guys for updates and what not. Same shit happened with Oddity, sure it sucks ppl had to keep getting their hopes up just to be let down, but it's a fan game made in devs free time that they aren't getting paid for, they dont owe anyone shit yet ppl still get so entitled. It's honestly kind of disgusting how entitled people can get to something they didn't even work on or put money in to. This project looks really good so i hope it can come to fruition, the aesthetic is spot on; great sprite work and designs, feels like the natural progress of the series even if it's unofficial.
the difference between this and Oddity is that Oddity was obviously *inspired* by Mother but went out of their way to avoid the wrath of Nintendo. This one is just begging for a takedown notice

I wasn't sure about this project at first but after watching the trailer again I better appreciate all the passion and effort you put into this. The music is excellent, the environments look solid, there's some super creative enemy designs here and what we do see of the dialogue is pretty great.

This looks really gorgeous, even hitting that nostalgic point with the music and style that represents Mother/EB. I've been waiting for Oddity release, ever since the first few instances of 2014 when it was shown, but it's been nothing since, besides a small update.
I'm hoping that this game can come out, fully flourishing into it's own thing, there may be other games out there that help feel the void, but it's been do long since we've gotten anything EB or Mother related.
I can't wait to see how the project goes, and including some updates later down the line, it looks fantastic so far.

I feel like this game is an SCP; Anyone who, corporation or not, tries to develop and release this game ends up dying or having something happen to them that makes them abandon working on it anymore. Maybe that's why we still haven't got mother4 yet. Especially considering the fact that there seems to be a morse code message hidden at 2:53 and 3:09 during the trailer. I haven't decoded them yet, but I hope someone does it if they're reading this comment.

Don't worry about legal issues as with Kirby and mother for some reason those fangames don't get taken down. Itoi has said he doesn't mind fangames in interviews but for Hal I have no idea if they care or not

Tbh idk how you decide to handle the soundtrack but i'm not a fan of the "no leitmotiv" way to handle music of shane mesa. Don't get me wrong, he creates massives bangers, but the mother series really have a strong connection with the way it keeps some melodies through many differents musics that makes us attached to them. I'd love to be able to get that feeling again from new melodies/songs and such in mother 4
There is a main motif in the old mother 4 though, see "Here we Are" or "Its gotta be you"
@@reese3141 indeed, but still Mesa talked in interview about his style and not really doing leitmotivs. Just two songs sharing one melody... Is not enough for me. Mother 3 litterally proved me how much we can twist a few melodies to create a much bigger impact. It's not dramatic to not reach the same amount of course... But just a bit more would be appreciated

its a meme at this point to make fake mother 4 trailers with absolutely no gameplay or game engine behind them.
*THEORY:* Mother 4 takes places in a new universe that was created when Lucas pulled the final needle. Everyone in Mother 3 when the needle was pulled now take slightly different appearances and names and lost their memory from the past universe. Aaron is indeed Lucas. Aaron/Lucas goes on an adventure to "uncover ancient history" a.k.a. the events of Mother 3 and bring back everyones memories. The character Jared (shown on one of the Mother 4 website screenshots) is actually Claus. When the needle was pulled it brought back the dead people including Claus and Hinawa into the new universe. Take this theory made in literally 5 minute with a grain of salt though lol, I don't even actually fully believe it just wild speculation from me. In reality, Aaron just looks alot like Lucas because Ness looks a lot like Ninten and theres nothing more than that.

there's an extra seen after the "End?" where it shows that everyone is still alive so I think this game just takes place a few decades after mother 3
I kinda wanted Maggie to be the tools dependent no psi party member since that role almost always falls on male characters and her design screams that to me, but still she gotta be one of my favorite fan design right alongside Floyd from Oddity as designs that you don't really see in Mother but fits perfectly in.

Oh one suggestion, i can see that Troy is an assassin, or a physical attacker with physical skills, so it would be an excellent idea for his skills to have original animations that make sense with his weapon, like the classic slash attack from rpg's, something like that, because attacks with personalized actions without animation 2:16 looks empty without personality, i hope someone in charge read this

Its been a long time. I remember being excited for this when i was still a teen, Im in my late twenties now. I doubt this game will ever be more than just the idea to make this game, but even that is enough

i was so invested in the other project back in 2015 or whatever, seeing this trailer and website is like walking through a bizarro parallel universe
I personally think Mother 3 was a perfect ending to the series as it closes ties that Mother 1 and Mother 2 created. This game could be amazing if it took place say during the White Ship Incident as the game progresses it explains more of what caused the white ship incident and the beginning of Tazmilly Civilization. We'll see once trailers airs in 3 days (from this comment being posted.) Who knows the game might just take place in an entirely different universe than the one Mother 1,2, and 3 takes place in so we'll see
I can see it being similar to Steel Ball Run and JoJolion in the sense that even though they don’t take place in the same universe after Stone Ocean/Mother 3, they still follow-up with a brand new plot, setting, and characters.
