Brings a tear to my eye: My dad tried to convince me to play earthbound when I was little, and as a young kid, (I’m in my teens now) I refused, but when I watched my dad play the game, I fell in love. One of those ‘love at first sight’ things. My dad narrated every part of dialogue we came across, and as I watched him play the game, and come across enemies he cursed at, and laugh at Pokey, we actually grew closer, over a game, I am in my teens now as I said and have beat the game over 4 times, this animation is so special because it reminds me of my dad and this amazing game, this may as well be our favorite video on the internet, best game ever. I remember showing Earthbound to my younger cousin because he kept begging. Then he wouldn’t stop crying because he thought it was scary and now *I’M* the asshole because he would not shut up.
I'll never forget... I was a 9 year old boy just starting out with Mario RPGs when one day, realising I was starting to like RPGs, my dad suggested I start playing EarthBound. He hated RPGs himself, but still decided to look some up anyway, and eventually came across EarthBound. So I decided to take his advice and start playing the game. DAMN. It was love at first sight. An obsession began. An experience that would always stay with me for my entire life. It started a journey into the world of MOTHER and games inspired by the series. To this day, Mother 3 remains one of the only three games to ever make me cry. I find myself replaying the games constantly, never growing bored. I owe so much of my happiness to EarthBound. Thank you, Itoi-san.
The first time I beat Earthbound, I was 19. When everyone returned to Saturn Village, and Paula asked me to return her home, and I thought for a moment. In any other game, I would’ve just used the fast travel spell and finished the game quick. But I had been on such an incredible journey, all I felt I could do is walk her home. So took the long way to Twoson, remembering our adventures along the way, taking the scenic route. I teared when she said goodbye to Ness and went back to her parents, but I knew they’d see each other again, I just wouldn’t get to witness it. And so I walked back to Ness’ home outside of Onett, and finally ended my journey.
I ended things a little differently. Because she asked to go home, I felt like I couldn’t keep her waiting. I fast-travelled back to Twoson and dropped her home there and then. But then I spent an hour or two travelling the whole world on foot, and saying goodbye to everyone else on my own. You can’t finish the game without Paula, but in turn she’s also fragile and needs your protection. It felt really special to me to have that space at the end of the game to reflect and revisit the places I’d been with her, once I was no longer responsible for keeping anyone else safe, and was free to just be regular kid Ness in them. I feel like maybe that’s what the bicycle was put in the game for really. It’s a wonderful story. I love that everyone gets to take their own route to the end in whatever way means the most to them.

I've had this video in my "Watch Later" list for years, since I didn't want to watch it before beating the game myself. Well, today I can finally see this gem of a video and feel a stronger connection with it than I would have felt otherwise.
I remember when I was about 15, I injured my back and could barely walk for long time. I was watching a lot of animations and I stumbled across this one and gosh I adored it. It's one of the very few animations I actually still remember - it sparked a lot in me. Because of this animation, my love for digital cartoony art was born AND it made me buy earthbound (which is now one of my all time favorite games.) I spent a good portion of my recovery playing it, as it took my mind off the pain and boredom of not being able to walk. I love this video so much and have to come back to it every year! 😊 I'll always be thankful for it for motivating me to try out new things, and making me really happy during a rocky part of my life.

One day, I decided I was going to go on my own adventure, but it started raining really hard once I got halfway there. I was alone in a city where nobody knew or cared who I was. Homesickness really hurts, so I called my mom, and sure enough, after talking to her, I felt so much better, and was able to finish my adventure up and down Oregon and california. I was 19 back then. I'm 33 now, my Mom's been gone for 6 years, I just wish I could still fix it by calling her, but nobody is there.

Truly a timeless adventure. While I haven't been playing as long as most, EarthBound has captivated me in ways few other games have. This is one of the only videos on RUclips that truly captures the pure essence of why I love this game (and series) so much. I always love revisiting this masterpiece again and again when I seek inspiration for writing and creating my own EB videos, and for that, I thank you. i bought Earthbound on my 3DS right before the eShop shut down for good. it’s a game i always heard about growing up in the 2010s (mostly because of Undertale haha) but never really had much interest in until recently. i played it for a little bit, but it didn’t really click for me, so i ended up dropping it for a couple months. i picked it up again at the beginning of the year, and i’m completely in love with it!! everything about it is so fun, charming, and memorable. I haven’t finished it yet, but i can say with confidence that Earthbound is in my top 5 favorite games now. I love rewatching this video as i get further in my playthrough. i love that i can recognize more and more characters, plot points, and set pieces from the game. i rarely tear up because of songs or other media, but i’d be lying if i said i didn’t get misty-eyed when i watched this for the first time. i dunno if anyone still reads these comments, but i just wanted to say that, like many of you, i am incredibly glad that Earthbound exists. thank you so much for making this beautiful music video EDIT: i finally finished the game last night. truth be told, i took a pretty long break soon after i wrote this comment because I had gotten to Gigyas already and i didn't want the game to end haha. anyway i absolutely loved the ending. fighting Porky and Gigyas was one of the most emotional experiences ive ever had playing a game. saying goodbye to all my friends, escorting Paula home, the photo album... the final few minutes of the game were so incredibly moving. Earthbound is a truly fantastic game, and i am very glad i got to experience it
When Ness wakes up after he went into his mind and Paula hugs him, not gonna lie it got me. it was so cute. I haven't watched this in a while. But its just as good as I remember it being.
This might be my favourite video on the internet. The mother 8 melodies at the end is a beautiful and emotional nod to the underrated sequel to this game that started my favourite video game series of all time. On behalf of millions of others, thank you for making this work of art. No other game in any way shape or form comes close to how Earthbound charmed me, taught me life lessons, or even just helped me out if I was in a depressing time of my life, or if I was just having a bad day. Earthbound was like the best friend I always wanted but never had. It's funny, charismatic, dark in a way, never boring, and I'm always finding something new about it everyday. So I thank you greatly, Mr. SaganYee, for making this, or even if this wasn't yours, im glad you uploaded it so others can see. This game made me laugh, cry, angry (with the monkey cave haha) or emotional and gave me a better outlook on life. If you compare me before earthbound and me after it, you see a massive difference. It's a funny game series that has dark times in it, a coming of age story about a boy and his friends teaming up to defeat an evil or chaotic force. Pollyanna, the song, hit me hard, in a good way. The Ending feels very rewarding...it something that I can't put into words. You have to play it to and beat it to experience it's simplistic but satisfying ending.

I absolutely love how when the party goes into the robot bodies, Ness isn’t the only one with different characteristics. Paula has her bow, Jeff got dem glasses, and since Poo pretty much has a bald egg head, his antenna is longer than the rest. I LOVE THAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL OMG! This is rocking! Keep on!

I hope. I remember experiencing this game for the first time through him back when I wondered if I’d ever have a chance to play the game. Really must finish the game.
Earthbound changed my life, I was so obsessed with video games because my family always had fights and I blamed myself. So I eventually got so lost in my own little world I was losing track of the real one. It got to the point where after 1 year of playing I had finally gotten to the mani mani statue at the very end of the game. He tells you “How can you save the world if you can’t even save yourself?” and I did just that. I defeated Giygas and at the very end I was completely snapped out when it said “(Name redacted for privacy) prayed for Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poos safety!” I cried for hours. I had finally done what I sought out to do and there was nothing more. For the first time...I was EarthBound
I understand that feeling towards this game. I have 4 year psych degree and I think honestly the player experience in Earthbound is basically a distilled journey inward. It is worth as much as a psych degree or any amount of therapy. It really outlines Joseph Campbell's Hero's tale very well and gets at the very core of metaphore and self psychology/ self healing. I am even thinking about doing my Graduate work on how it can be used as a form of self therapy between the music and the cinematic experience. I play it every so many years amd I still feel like I learn things about myself playing now 20 years later. Best wishes and awesome comment!

I like how Jeff and Poo go to the rescue with no reason. They are just kids that hear a voice claiming for help and they go, becoming friends with Ness in the way. PS: I said it in the spanish version but i feel that someone that doesnt exist believes in me at 100% listening to this

Pollyanna is a Nintendo owned song as it's from the Earthbound/Mother series, which is owned by Nintendo, not Sony. It's more likely that Sony just did what Coca Cola did with claiming Final Fantasy 7 by falsely claiming a fan cover as their own. Sony and Nintendo are only competitors in the video game industry and even then that only started in the early 90s. This album came in 89 before Sony decided to make video games too. Sony Music Japan owns the publishing rights to this specific recording. That's why it got struck. He'll Nintendo even allowed Donkey Kong in Pixels, which was released and produced by Sony. If it's not a conflict of corporate interest, sometimes companies will play ball.
I don’t know how I’ve never seen this before. I’m a 38 year old man almost brought to tears watching this. I played this game for the first time when I was in elementary school and it’s stuck with me my whole life. I’ve replayed it about 10 times over the years, but nothing with compare to the absolute magic of playing this game for the first time as a child. Thank you to everyone involved in the making of this beautiful tribute.

Happy 10 years! I loved this since the day it came out, and I still love it to this day! This mixed with The video “Corrupted guardians” were what made me love earthbound so much… And as of this year I now have every version of the game. SNES, GBA, WIIU, SNES Classic, and Switch. I love this game and it inspires me endlessly. 10/10 Here’s to another 10 years of Earthbound/M🌍ther 2!

My dad tried to convince me to play earthbound when I was little, and as a young kid, (I’m in my teens now) I refused, but when I watched my dad play the game, I fell in love. One of those ‘love at first sight’ things. My dad narrated every part of dialogue we came across, and as I watched him play the game, and come across enemies he cursed at, and laugh at Pokey, we actually grew closer, over a game, I am in my teens now as I said and have beat the game over 4 times, this animation is so special because it reminds me of my dad and this amazing game, this may as well be our favorite video on the internet, best game ever. By far my favorite.

I was a 9 year old boy just starting out with Mario RPGs when one day, realising I was starting to like RPGs, my dad suggested I start playing EarthBound. He hated RPGs himself, but still decided to look some up anyway, and eventually came across EarthBound. So I decided to take his advice and start playing the game.
DAMN.
It was love at first sight. An obsession began. An experience that would always stay with me for my entire life. It started a journey into the world of MOTHER and games inspired by the series. To this day, Mother 3 remains one of the only three games to ever make me cry. I find myself replaying the games constantly, never growing bored. I owe so much of my happiness to EarthBound. Thank you, Itoi-san.

The first time I beat Earthbound, I was 19. When everyone returned to Saturn Village, and Paula asked me to return her home, and I thought for a moment. In any other game, I would’ve just used the fast travel spell and finished the game quick. But I had been on such an incredible journey, all I felt I could do is walk her home. So took the long way to Twoson, remembering our adventures along the way, taking the scenic route. I teared when she said goodbye to Ness and went back to her parents, but I knew they’d see each other again, I just wouldn’t get to witness it. And so I walked back to Ness’ home outside of Onett, and finally ended my journey.
I beat the game a week ago and I just walked back and it was amazing

Yup, things like the incredible conveyance which this is an example of, are why this is a classic.
I ended things a little differently. Because she asked to go home, I felt like I couldn’t keep her waiting. I fast-travelled back to Twoson and dropped her home there and then. But then I spent an hour or two travelling the whole world on foot, and saying goodbye to everyone else on my own.
You can’t finish the game without Paula, but in turn she’s also fragile and needs your protection. It felt really special to me to have that space at the end of the game to reflect and revisit the places I’d been with her, once I was no longer responsible for keeping anyone else safe, and was free to just be regular kid Ness in them. I feel like maybe that’s what the bicycle was put in the game for really.
It’s a wonderful story. I love that everyone gets to take their own route to the end in whatever way means the most to them.
WE DID IT, WE GOT MOTHER 1 AND MOTHER 2 ON SWITCH!!!! Now all we need is mother 3 and the trilogy is complete!
No THAT would be a stretch, but a welcome one.
Give people like a year or two then you'll probably be able to play it with modding, but it's just as beautiful.
My guess is that Nintendo is saving it for a rainy day so that more people will buy it.

@@bensell982 I believe from what I can find that Sony Japan distributed the Vinyl for the Mother 1 vocal album that had Pollyana and Eight Melodies on it. So yeah they technically have the rights but I don’t know why they started the copyright thing out of nowhere.

I remember when I was about 15, I injured my back and could barely walk for long time. I was watching a lot of animations and I stumbled across this one and gosh I adored it. It's one of the very few animations I actually still remember - it sparked a lot in me. Because of this animation, my love for digital cartoony art was born AND it made me buy earthbound (which is now one of my all time favorite games.) I spent a good portion of my recovery playing it, as it took my mind off the pain and boredom of not being able to walk. I love this video so much and have to come back to it every year! 😊 I'll always be thankful for it for motivating me to try out new things, and making me really happy during a rocky part of my life.

One day, I decided I was going to go on my own adventure, but it started raining really hard once I got halfway there. I was alone in a city where nobody knew or cared who I was.
Homesickness really hurts, so I called my mom, and sure enough, after talking to her, I felt so much better, and was able to finish my adventure up and down Oregon and california. I was 19 back then.
I'm 33 now, my Mom's been gone for 6 years, I just wish I could still fix it by calling her, but nobody is there.

i bought Earthbound on my 3DS right before the eShop shut down for good. it’s a game i always heard about growing up in the 2010s (mostly because of Undertale haha) but never really had much interest in until recently. i played it for a little bit, but it didn’t really click for me, so i ended up dropping it for a couple months. i picked it up again at the beginning of the year, and i’m completely in love with it!! everything about it is so fun, charming, and memorable. I haven’t finished it yet, but i can say with confidence that Earthbound is in my top 5 favorite games now.
I love rewatching this video as i get further in my playthrough. i love that i can recognize more and more characters, plot points, and set pieces from the game. i rarely tear up because of songs or other media, but i’d be lying if i said i didn’t get misty-eyed when i watched this for the first time. i dunno if anyone still reads these comments, but i just wanted to say that, like many of you, i am incredibly glad that Earthbound exists. thank you so much for making this beautiful music video
EDIT: i finally finished the game last night. truth be told, i took a pretty long break soon after i wrote this comment because I had gotten to Gigyas already and i didn't want the game to end haha. anyway i absolutely loved the ending. fighting Porky and Gigyas was one of the most emotional experiences ive ever had playing a game. saying goodbye to all my friends, escorting Paula home, the photo album... the final few minutes of the game were so incredibly moving. Earthbound is a truly fantastic game, and i am very glad i got to experience it
It warms my heart to see that even today there are still players who discover and appreciate Earthbound !

I was finished earthbound in my nintendo swicth, and now is one of my favorites games.
This might be my favourite video on the internet.
The mother 8 melodies at the end is a beautiful and emotional nod to the underrated sequel to this game that started my favourite video game series of all time.
On behalf of millions of others, thank you for making this work of art.
No other game in any way shape or form comes close to how Earthbound charmed me, taught me life lessons, or even just helped me out if I was in a depressing time of my life, or if I was just having a bad day.
Earthbound was like the best friend I always wanted but never had.
It's funny, charismatic, dark in a way, never boring, and I'm always finding something new about it everyday.
So I thank you greatly, Mr. SaganYee, for making this, or even if this wasn't yours, im glad you uploaded it so others can see.
This game made me laugh, cry, angry (with the monkey cave haha) or emotional and gave me a better outlook on life.
If you compare me before earthbound and me after it, you see a massive difference.
I'm not sure if I would be mentally healthy, or even sane if I never discovered earthbound.
So I thank SaganYee, Chuggaaconroy (for introducing me to Earthbound), and the creator of this entire series, Shigesato Itoi. Aswell as everyone who read down to here and liked the comment.

And honestly... I'm glad I found this video, and got into the Mother series. It's a funny game series that has dark times in it, a coming of age story about a boy and his friends teaming up to defeat an evil or chaotic force. Pollyanna, the song, hit me hard, in a good way. As well as Eight Melodies. Tears were shed as I played the game. Was I happy it was over? Yeah, but no.

My favorite game, I remember beating it when it first came out, changed my life, i am 36 now, glad to see my favorite game got the fan base it always deserved here in the states

The Ending feels very rewarding...it something that I can't put into words. You have to play it to and beat it to experience it's simplistic but satisfying ending.

I absolutely love how when the party goes into the robot bodies, Ness isn’t the only one with different characteristics. Paula has her bow, Jeff got dem glasses, and since Poo pretty much has a bald egg head, his antenna is longer than the rest. I LOVE THAT ATTENTION TO DETAIL OMG! This is rocking! Keep on!

Earthbound changed my life, I was so obsessed with video games because my family always had fights and I blamed myself. So I eventually got so lost in my own little world I was losing track of the real one. It got to the point where after 1 year of playing I had finally gotten to the mani mani statue at the very end of the game.
He tells you “How can you save the world if you can’t even save yourself?” and I did just that. I defeated Giygas and at the very end I was completely snapped out when it said “(Name redacted for privacy) prayed for Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poos safety!” I cried for hours. I had finally done what I sought out to do and there was nothing more. For the first time...I was EarthBound
I understand that feeling towards this game. I have 4 year psych degree and I think honestly the player experience in Earthbound is basically a distilled journey inward. It is worth as much as a psych degree or any amount of therapy. It really outlines Joseph Campbell's Hero's tale very well and gets at the very core of metaphore and self psychology/ self healing. I am even thinking about doing my Graduate work on how it can be used as a form of self therapy between the music and the cinematic experience. I play it every so many years amd I still feel like I learn things about myself playing now 20 years later. Best wishes and awesome comment!

I like how Jeff and Poo go to the rescue with no reason. They are just kids that hear a voice claiming for help and they go, becoming friends with Ness in the way.

I don’t know how I’ve never seen this before. I’m a 38 year old man almost brought to tears watching this. I played this game for the first time when I was in elementary school and it’s stuck with me my whole life. I’ve replayed it about 10 times over the years, but nothing with compare to the absolute magic of playing this game for the first time as a child. Thank you to everyone involved in the making of this beautiful tribute.

Ness one of the most amazing kids and hero’s in any video game... he constantly changes the people around hime and stops evil in its tracks... he also matured into a young man in his amazing journey and stoped all evil in himself.. he journeys back to home for a good rest and will never forget any of the adventure he had... this game is amazing
