It took me 3 months 7 individuals and you was the only one I actually could understand the technique and I got it right on tonight February 5th 2023 Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a game changer for me. This is the first method for tying the FG knot that consistently works for me. With 50+ year old eyeballs I can tie this method with my glasses on. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the video and the idea of using the rod and reel technique. It's a lit easier than all the other ways I've tried. Good video. Thanks again.
The best method for a fg knot.. I’ve always struggled with holding the braid in my teeth, this way is much much easier, I’ve never thought about it. Thanks!
I learned the fg knot last summer fast forward to this spring I’m about to re tie all my rods so I wanted a refresher but man that tip about tying the line to the reel handle is so money I will be using that every time 🔥
This is by far the easiest way I’ve found! Thank you!The best advise I can give is to *not* have the braid too tight because you are continually making it tighter the more wraps you put on to it.
and, just like that I found your video.... Fakebook, makes it to where you cannot mute the commercials that interrupt the videos..... Love you dude, STAY POSITIVE!!!!! PMA today, tomorrow and ALWAYS!!!!
Thanks for this video! I've tried so many times using my teeth for the "third hand" that I need... the reel is perfect for the hold and I think I could get it this way... gonna try it... thanks G-man!
Thanks for the tip G-man. I love the FG for all the reasons you mentioned Tying the main line to the reel handle is a great idea. I’ll have to get my rods out and start practicing again. I agree that the more you practice, the faster you get. It takes longer but I have more confidence in this knot than any other I’ve tried.
Took me a while to get the FG figured out and done right and it's a great knot but, I always seem to always tie the red-phillips knot you did a video awhile ago and shown how to tie it... I've never had any issues with it, but the FG is the best knot I guess I'm just lazy lol.. thanks G-man!!!
Thanks for that. My mistake has been to pull the turns too much after each wrap so that all i had was a ball of braid and mono to cinch. Wrapped with less tension and cinched a long series of wraps. Have to say i was ready to throw the lot out of the window.
Never had an FG knot break. But, you have that knot come unbuttoned on a 6 lber at the end of the the day and your gonna say words you didn’t know you had in you. Good knot. Fish 10 & 15 braid to 7lb FC sniper all the time cause I’m older and just love to see that rod bend. GT knot is my go to after personally testing both knots, can fish for two days solid. NEVER has it come unbuttoned and goes through the eyes perfectly. Think about that, not if it happens, but when it happens. Plus the GT is easier to tie in a 20 mph wind. Great video and a lot better way to tie the FG knot G. Thanks for the info.
For reels lol. Everybody tied the crazy alberto knot until they found the FG. Still works for me. Boat flipped a 5er with a 16lb flouro leader the other day with a crazy alberto knot. No probs at all 💪🎣
Me to. Agreed! I can tie the c/alberto knot not even looking at it except to dip my floro in my last loop with my braid. Easiest knot. But his floro knot to bait is a beast an easy as hell to tie the three tag end cinch knot
The loop knot to the reel handle to keep the main line tight is the money tip for anyone who has attempted the fg before. I’ve tried other ways to keep the braid taught that are way too complicated. This way I could even do it in a kayak.
Because of my sausage fingers I use a tool to tie the FG knot now, but used to do it much like how you are. I used a small drop shot weight in the end of the leader. Try it, you can tie it pretty fast. I still do this if I need to tie up in my boat.
I use this technique, plus the way Feider finishes his. i have never broke off in this knot. A big key doing it like he is is, how tight the mainline is. You need to be able to swing you "holding" hand back and forth.
I fish for Murray cod here in Australia and been using the FG knot for years ,2 pound or a hundred pound fish ( like Murray cod ) the knot holds up best there is
Hey G.. Serious question.... Say you break off or knot fails. How hard is that knot gonna be to tie in the boat, wind blowing etc. I have always just stuck with straight fluro because just couldn't ever justify the aggravation of braid to fluro. Thanks G!!!!!
@@joshsinglefooter i gotcha. but he is in boat on concrete sitting very still. that wind blows, whitecaps, etc... Its tough.. Well it was for me. I guess having another rod ready to go would be ideal. Still just became a hassle.
Good idea. One thing I do differently is I personally don't clip the florocarbon or braid as close as I can get it. I try to leave 3/16-1/4 inch because its more important for me to land a big fish than to gain a few feet longer on my cast. I've only had bad results when clipping the florocarbon down that close, because it only has to give a millimeter and then there are no finish-knots holding it in place, so it unravels.
I may be doing it wrong but it’s never broke. I wrap the braid around the leader vs the leader around the braid. It actually reverses so that the tiny little tag end of fluorocarbon doesn’t hit a guide on the way out. But I wonder if when I pull the knot tight it’s burning the fluoro? I saw my buddies knot and noticed he had it tied the way you do. I wet it before tightening it but wondered if G or anyone else has an opinion on it?
I add one step at the end after the half-hitches... I tie what's called a Rizzuto knot (whip finish knot for fly tyers) so the half-hitches won't unravel... I also put a dab of superglue at the top 1/8" of the FG knot for extra insurance
@@xb2003280 can't nobody say anything how the FG passes through the guides better. They all come through the same, really. If Swindle wants to try it, that's cool, but I never had a crazy alberto knot or red phillips knot break
@@JohnK-dv7pb all the pros are jumping on the FG knot. It's a cool thing. I've never had a problem with the RP or crazy alberto knot and boat flipped some gooduns with both those

@@BJJandBS for braid to Fluorocarbon the only knots I use are FG, modified jknot, Alberto. Those are the best for that type of line to line connection.

I always tie my leaders with 2 snell knots, it has always worked fine for me and is easy to tie.
