- Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that will allow squatters in Florida to be evicted immediately.
DeSantis signed the bill, HB 621, during a news conference Wednesday in Orlando, promising that Florida is "ending the squatter scam."
Before the bill, squatters were considered to be tenants and a process was required to evict them. But now, this bill strips squatters of those rights.

That law should be passed in all the states of the Union. Protect the rights of homeowners not of the criminals.

Every state should do the same law
Squatters should have ZERO rights above or beyond or equal to a property owner's rights in any way... Even if the property is not the owner's primary residence, they should have the "castle laws" on their side automatically... It still bobbles the mind that Libs were able to mire things down to the point of this even being a thing...
This should be a Federal law. Every state should adopt this law immediately.
Goodness, we have far too much Federal intrusion in our lives as it is. This can be quite adequately handled at the county level.

I need this in Massachusetts. Three squatters in my grandparents all on ssi/disability, they were homeless. They don't have to pat anything to fight eviction in court and I ran out of money 😢
Your only remedy is to vote every single democrat out of office. I can pretty much guarantee you that every single MA democrat would have voted against the law DeSantis signed had that bill been introduced in MA. Same with all the Blue states. Democrats = enemy of law abiding people.

A long time ago police, as a matter of procedure, should have taken copies of the alleged " lease " for evidence. Once it is discovered that it is fraudulent. Criminal charges should be brought. The general decision to decide ahead of time that this is a civil matter seems to be arbitrary.

Every state should have this law! I saw in the news that Arizona is considering such a law, but it IS a democratic state, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
This should be nationwide it should be a federal law to block all squatters because it infringes upon the part of the constitution that says citizens have the right to the pursuit of happiness. Stealing someone's property is not upholding their right to happiness promised to the citizens. Stealing is a crime so squatting is really criminal & not a civil matter.

Why does this need to be a law? It should be common sense. It's theft of personal property!!
This is unreal. You work to buy a house, then go on vacation & come back and someone is living in your house telling you about their rights. This country is going downhill fast. I guess it's easier to steal the whole house as opposed to breaking in and taking the stereo & tv's.
It is deeply unfair that homeowners have to potentially spend thousands in legal fees to regain possession of their own properties. Then, at the end of the experience, the worst that happens to the squatters is that they move onto another property…thereby incentivizing the crime. Literally nothing but a sense of shame (obviously not present) and inconvenience standing between you and months or years of free rent at the expense of others. People need to stop thinking that people will self-regulate and “do the right thing.” If that was the case, we wouldn’t have crime.

The punishment for being a squatter should be so severe as to absolutely deter ! No one has a right to commandeer another person’s property. These squatters shouldn’t just be evicted immediately but sent to the county prison to do hard labor and financial restitution to the property owner and the taxpayers money was spent to get them evicted.
I have been in the position to evict a squatter. I can not tell you how frustrating it is. While I understand the rights of renters must be protected. If there is no lease and they are squatting you should be able to evict them in less than 3 months. You should also not have to go to court let alone pay court costs. I live in Pa. The squatter has more rights than the property owner.
