Hi Stephanie. I love the heating pads. I think I'd do them in a soft flannel. Here's an idea. Get a piece of soft, flexible tubing, or even a short piece of water hose. Slide it in the open side of the tube and put a funnel in the top of it and pour the rice in. Moving to hose up as you go. Did I explain that right? 🤔 Lol.
I just commented on Tina's page about this very thing. I had a boss that made these for everyone in our department. She went to a fabric store and bought scrap fabric from them. They were rectangle in shape about 8"x12". She sewed them like pillows and filled them with deer corn. You could heat them in the microwave or stick them in the freezer as a cold pack. I've had mine since 2005 and the fabric is finally wearing thin. She explained that the deer corn was cheap and didn't react to moisture like rice did. Mine has never molded or clumped. She even ask people what colors their houses were decorated ( under the pretense she was doing a home makeover and wanted some ideas) so she could customize them. Try the deer corn in some of them!❤
Hi Steph I love those warmers. A neighbor friend of mine sewed and knew how much knee & neck pain I had and made me one little different shape and size. It was so neat. I used mine so much I burnt it and had to toss it out. I loved it.
Wow Stephanie, you amaze me with everything you do. Your an Amazing Gal. Your so Creative. Since my Mom passed away, ya'll have made my life easier, because yall keep making awesome videos as a Family. You are a very Strong Woman. You and Buddy are Amazing. Thank you ❤
Good Monday morning, I worked in a sewing factory for 30 years. I wish that clothes were still made in America. I made tops in 3 different factories never was fired but when work got slow I would go to another factory. My last 6 years in the sewing factory I worked in only 1 factory and this was when NAFTA was passed and I lost my job (factory closed) and went to Mexico. I was working making pants. Serging jeans
Ohhh I love these Stephanie!!! I care for my elderly parents fulltime and these will make them so happy, especially the tartan as they immigrated from Scotland originally! The Star Wars one has my name all over it🌟Thanks for sharing! 👏🩵Kat, Perth, Australia 🇦🇺
I was teaching my daughter to sew and she made a few for xmas gifts. We made them with muslin and used the printed fabric as removable, washable covers.
I used to make the heating pads ( made with long mens tube white socks filled with rice) for the tiny kittens that were abandoned to Humane Society and had no mom to keep them warm. It is possible to put them in the freezer for bee stings, sprains, muscle spasms, etc Just be careful to not let get wet. Thanks for all you do for people to try things. Your instructions are precise and understandable for those who do not craft, cook or sew often. 💖
Field corn does the same thing as the rice. They look great Stephanie!! You are simply amazing!! I used to work at a Behavior School and we made these for the kids, we used flannel material. The girls loved them when they had their period.
@@rhodaneish3230 I remember being younger and playing sports and using the corn ones and teammates being like.. what is that smell! Of course when you get to sweating, it was worse! 😂 oh those were the days.
Nice job at walking us through the process. I've been making what I call "Neck Huggers" for years and selling them at craft shows. They are popular and I do well. I make mine curved for the neck with ties so that if you should fall asleep (I always fall asleep) waiting for the headache or shoulder pain to go away it won't slip off. My "Neck Huggers" weight not quite 3 pounds so are excellent on the shoulders if you suffer from neck or shoulder pain. Similar to using a weighted blanket. I have a few guy friends that work in the construction field working with their arms above their heads most of the day. They often leave work with shoulder pain and the "Neck Huggers" help relieve the pain. I'm happy to hear you are opening an on-line store. Be aware that your home made items will probably become very popular and you'll find yourself constantly making your crafts to sell. Thanks for sharing with us!
You should check into making “unfreeze able GEL ice packs” ( water, salt and corn starch). You boil the water add salt and corn starch, when cool place in ziplock bag, place into a cloth bag - freeze (they will not freeze solid. This ice pack is great and will mold around any injury, can be used over and over.
Love mine. I have beans in mine. My friend made them in plain fabric, just one long bag, no sections. Then she made a flannel pillow case for it so it could be washed.
Nice cozy way to warm up in the winter for us all as well as a pain relief heating pad ! Would also make nice cozy warmers for pet beds in the winter you could put the warmer under the pets beds cover or wrap it in a pillowcase to keep it clean and safe for your pet !
When I was in high school, HomeEc. was split into 2 parts. The first grading period was cooking, which I passed with flying colors. The second period was sewing. I flunked soooo badly! 😂🤣😂 my teacher said I better be glad I could buy clothes, or I would be naked! To this day it’s all I can do to sew on a button.
You can get a funnel with a long tube and put that in the opening and fill. Put it through each hole to the bottom one, fill it and pin it, pull up funnel fill the next one. Keep going til all are filled. Saves lots of time and is much easier. Love your channel.
Love this idea. I consider a homemade hand sewn quilt an undertaking. This is easy and awesome. And Yessss, throw on some true crime or some first 48 and sew away. I knew we were kindred spirits. 😂❤
I made a 4 piece Taylored suit in Highschool. My granddaughter had an idea for a dress. she showed me her drawing. Asking me if I could help her make it. Without a pattern. It was fun & challenging. But it became a reality. She is now wearing it. 😊
As I watched you work the rice down I thought of something that may be a tad easier. Take a pvc pipe piece and thread that into the channel- then use a wider mouth funnel for the rice. Once first one is filled, pull up the pipe to the next section pin off and repeat. It would still allow you to measure the rice but maybe save your finger joints a few more years 😉. Thought I would share my brainstorm to see if that may work easier since you are talking about reproducing many of these.
Good morning Steph- I use a funnel to feed the rice in. I also make squares filled with rice as hand warmers to have in your pocket as you navigate cold weather here in Michigan.
I have a cherry pit heating pad. I did not make it...I purchased it at a craft market. It works great...heated in the microwave. Great for those sore muscles. 👍😊👏 Thank you for sharing this video with us. 👍🇨🇦😊 You are so talented Stephanie.
‼️👍That's awesome, Stephanie. Thank you for sharing all the beautiful crafts you make and showing us how to do it very much once again. Thank you. We ❤️love all your videos.🥰‼️
I absolutely look for your videos, I learn a lot n between cooking/ baking... crafts, gardening only problem I wish I had a farm but no room for fresh eggs... but thank you Steph and Buddy for teaching me❤
Stephanie, did you ever try with a zipper so it can be washed? Don't forget, Kim loves sunflowers. If you would use 1 to 1 1/2 inch tubing and a funnel, it would be easier to put rice in each chamber. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. 💖 Have a wonderful day 😊.
Hi Steph!!! You are sure one creative woman!!! I really don’t know when u find the time to do everything that u do. You certainly would be great as a teacher in an everyday class. Thank u for showing us all your creative and wonderful ideas. I hope u have a wonderful day.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I made long tubes from canvas material. Put some cinnamon oil with rice. I had my sons fourth grade classmates' team up and funnel the rice into the tubes. Then we coiled them for hot plate coasters (Thanksgiving and Christmas) gifts. When you set the food on the pad the fragrance was renewed. I would imagine a menthol would be good too for your heating pads. Thanks!
I've sewn weighted blankets for kids. Found it easier to pour in enough for the first section, shake it so the filler is at the bottom, sew first section shut, pour 2nd section and sew, then fill 3rd section and fold over like you showed and machine sew it shut. No hand sewing required , each section has the same amount of filler and I find it quicker then having to work the filler down a channel.
I found one at a craft fair many years ago. The maker had put dried peppermint in the one I got. I still have the pad, but, to my dismay, the peppermint no longer has that wonderful smell. 😢 I love mine even though it’s about 25 years old. ❤
I've used a similar product for years. Mine was filled with wheat. When I heat mine in the microwave I put a cup with cold water in with it, this stops the bag exploding as it warms up. 😊
Stephanie you can used a aquarium pipe to put in the🤔😍 side and pour rice in or a regular pike 1/2 inch on the side pour rice in a funnel it might go in easier...
Great idea Steph, I have a ton of fabric I was gifted! I think I will whip up several of these for gifts. I am also going to be making dresses and shorts to send to Africa. So edayiwill do a quilt!
Stephanie, can I make a suggestion? To make it easier, all you had to do was fold the fabric in half and cut down the center. Then, once in two pieces, fold in half. It might help you if you are going to make them in a kind of production line. You are so creative and willing to learn. I love your projects so much!
I have a sewubf machine, but I like to recueve these as gifts. I have three in different sizes from different people and in the winter they are my favorite go to to warm arms, legs or back under mt blanket. Thank you for the variety of videos.
I have some heat bags that are double baged so you can take the cover off and wash them . Also you can put lavender in with the rice so they smell great 😊
I’m a little behind on watching videos but I’m wondering if you went to the hardware store, you could buy a piece of tubing to pour the rice into and pull it up the tube up as you fill the heating pad. You could use a funnel in the top of the tube and pour the rice into the tube. ❤❤
I have one my best friend gave me.I love it.I use it for sore neck, muscles, cold hands, feet and everything .Thank you for your tutorial so that your followers can enjoy the comfort they provide! I may make some too,! ❤-Carole
Very good tutorial. I'm not a sewer any more . My sisters sewing machine is in the storage shed that I could use but my eyes are so bad I can't thread the needle. I use to have a threader but I just can't cute straight or do the things I use to do. My mother made our clothes as kids she could do everything, and looked professional. She even made clothes for our dolls. These are so cool with all the different colors and designs. You have a great idea for Christmas or even birthdays. Thankyou for sharing this ❤
I buy mens thick kneehigh hunting socks. There is no foot shape, its made straight. I put a pound of long rice in it and stretch it by dropping it and snatching it up and down which makes the sock longer. I have one made for the freezer and one for microwave. I really love these for my neck.
I love these, I was given one years ago and it worked really well for stress head aches from reading all day. I want to make one using your directions. I may try using a funnel to fill the rice. Thank you for sharing your project.
I have a rice bag heating pad that my mom made years and years ago! I put it in the microwave for about a minute! It works great! Great idea!

Im no sewer either but I like to dabble on little projects like this.Thank you for sharing Stephanie ❤❤
I made 14 of these for my whole family about 10 yrs ago.
Filled mine with cracked corn. Also made covers like sleeves to put the in.

Yes! Heating pad and the weight of the rice helps too!
I also, make eye-masks with essential oils and dry herbs.👍video❣

Hi Stephanie. I use them all the time. We put wheat in ours. I use them instead of electric blankets or hot water bottles. It such a good idea
I use wheat for mine and put in a couple of drops of Lavender oil. I must say I do love the Tartan fabric.
