  • This rice pack or bed buddy is a quick, easy project that takes very little time and money. Use it hot or cold to soothe headaches, ease tension and treat sore muscles. It makes a great gift, and it's a perfect project for craft fairs. It's also lovely to warm your toes on a cold night
To make this project, you'll need four pieces of fabric measuring 6" x 18" (or two measuring 6" x 36") in two different fabrics: one for the inner lining and one for the outer lining. You'll also need coordinating thread and a short piece of hook-and-loop fastener (Velcro).
To heat the rice pack, microwave it for 1.5 to 2.5 minutes. BE CAREFUL! Not all microwaves are the same. Test it with a shorter time and gradually lengthen the time until you reach the temperature you desire. Use caution when applying it to your body. You don't want to burn yourself.
To use this as an ice pack, stick it in the freezer for a few hours or overnight, then apply it to the affected area. As with any ice pack, do not apply to bare skin.

Nice job! I love the Valcour idea instead of another hem :)

Thanks! I do love my rice pack - it's been on my head almost constantly since Tuesday night. I think I'm about at the end of the migraine though. :-)

$10 for large ones, and I made some smaller ones, like an eye mask, for $4.
