      Yeah. I think everyone already acknowledged that 5800x and 5600x are going to be the best CPUs for gaming... Yet most of the reviewers chose to review top part CPUs like 5900x and 5950x which are completely irrelevant for gamer folks... 5950x is 30 percent faster in v ray... yada yada... in monkey head render test... yada yada ... 7 zip compression yada yada yada... Lol dude like we already knew it would be faster in production work benchmarks, who the f k cares... Professionals and production workers would just buy higher core count anyway, this is absolutely pointless and a waste of time...
      Just show us benchmarks for games for 5600x 5800x and 5900x . This is the most crucial part of the information that absolutely majority of reviewers seem not to get... For me personally trying to decide between 5600X and 5800X ,will probably go for 5800X ... And seeing that the majority of reviewers focused on the higher end skews is extremely frustrating, since no gamer should be buying them anyway...

    A suggestion for future content: Maybe you could choose the axis end values and number of splits so they would result at splits at even 100, 50, 25, etc.? It's really hard to decipher the graphs when the y axis has values like 4913, 4975 and 5048 (from splitting the delta of 500 from 4600 to 5100 in 8 parts), instead of 4900, 4950, 5000, 5050 (from splitting delta of 500 in 10 parts). Having only the even 100s listed, but additional splits at 50 in between (without values) would be ideal to avoid clutter.

      To add on the bandwagon of criticism...
      They didn't include competitive games on the charts which many millions of gamers live by ... Perhaps it is not important to including MOBA like games, but FPS style competitive games where higher frame rates count are important, and specifically CS:GO ... Which apparently AMD has got the biggest lead at there up to %50 IPC uplift according to some reviewers ,unfortunately all of the bigger reviewers completely skipped it including GN (which infuriates me)... This is absolutely a huge deal, and will mean that in the long term, millions of dollars and sponsorships will be moving towards AMD ... as well as millions of gamers that are trying to get the competitive advantage in competitive games will be switching to AMD also... This is a much bigger deal than getting a few more or less frames on a seasonal game like RDR2 for example...

      Average FPS on the 10900k and RTX 3080 is between 300 and 360 ,then there's such thing as 0.1fps lows for when you get frame dips, which are as important for smoother gameplay as just higher frames.
      Monitor manufacturers will not go into higher Hertz unless they see a niche in the market...So we need games to start hitting those frames to get higher refresh rate monitors...It's been suggested by blurbusters that 1k hz is the ideal sweet spot for motion clarity, beyond that, it still improves it but will be getting diminishing returns ... So 1k FPS and no dips in FPS is the target that we should be aiming at for competitive games.

    • @jubuttib
      @jubuttib 3 года назад +15

      It's not really the inherent performance increase gen over gen, it's more the performance increase against the competition. If your opponent is selling their gear at a certain price, and you're matching or slightly beating them in one of the two main arenas, and significantly beating them in the other, going a bit over them in pricing is expected. The 3000-series just didn't have the gaming performance of Intel, so they were more careful, while still justifying equal cost with way better multitasking and productivity performance. Now you're not losing on any front by going AMD.
      And if you want to match 10900K performance wise in both gaming and productivity, it seems the 5800X is right there, and is significantly cheaper. =)

Also worth pointing out, that a lot of AMD users are already on 400 or 500 series boards, they have no additional expenses aside from the CPU, so for those users the CPU price hike is easier to swallow as it's the only component they need to replace. That's where I'm at.
      Everyones saying that intel is dead... and while I kind of agree on the high-range... once you get to the 5800x and 5600x, I really don't think it is as clear, at least in gaming.. (though I'm waiting to see the GN 5600x benchmarks).
      But for example, in RDR2: A stock 10700k actually beats an overclocked 5900x, and a stock 10600k beats a stock 5900x. Both in max FPS, but much more significantly in 1% and 0.1% lows.
      The 5900x wins in all of the other games compared to a 10700k... but not by much, and consider that the 5900x is 45% more expensive. The 5800x is 18% more expensive, and from the other benchmarks I've seen on other channels/sites, I don't think it performs 18% better.
      Now to what you said... if they had a 5700x, and it was similar to how the 3700 stacked up against the 3800... now we're talking about pretty insane value IMO. You'd be arguably getting the same performance as the 5800 in gaming... at quite a bit less.

Yes, the 5900X has 70 MB total, because it has 2 CCX, but those don't sum up since cores can only access the cache of their CCX (this means most data is just duplicated in each CCX's L3 cache. It's actually similar to how VRAM works in SLI setups: you don't get double VRAM, most data is duplicated in the 2 cards). [edit: actually both have 32 MB of L3 cache per CCX, so they're the same. It's only L2 that differs, since that's per core - still the same amount of L2 per core]
      In workloads where threads are more independent of each other, so the cache of each CCX will actually have different data (as long as threads are not moved between CCXs), then the extra cache will be beneficial. But for games this is not the case.
