What are they actually testing there? They didn't describe the method for it and you can have very different results depending on game state and settings.
i wish they'd add a factorio megabase simulation in the cpu review for this reason. big factorio bases looooove cpu power, especially the X3D chips. no personal bias here either no sir
Interesting thing is that Stellaris is still using the older version of the Clauswitz engine (game engine for Paradox 4x games), which typically only use 2 cores very heavily. Newer Paradox games like Vic3 and CK3 (especially CK3) use 5-6 cores on average so the gains from this CPU might even be larger.
Super nice review, thanks. Would be nice to incorporate more MSFS2020 benchmarks as it's heavily CPU-bound, specially on airliners + max ground and building detail as all of those kill CPU very quickly, very few reviewers incorporate that, none with the special CPU-heavy settings.

Bro always hooks us up when we need it
Thanks for the test, but why is there no benchmark in 1440p in gaming ?
what a time to be alive. Thanks, Steve.
Hey Steve, do you know if amd is going to be supporting execute only memory flags anytime soon? Thanks for the great review!
Could've waited for a 9800X3D, but that's alright.
Highly satisfied with my 7800X3D purchase. Bought that beast of a CPU for $378.49 USD during a sale back in June this year.
My brother also has a 7800X3D. Meanwhile, I am still on my 85 dollar Ryzen 5 5500 on my 5 year old mobo.
Steve, is that a beQuiet Lightbase 900 in the background? 😉
Thanks for measuring baldurs gate 3 with 9800x3d. No one have done that. super thanks
The best game of 2023… so definitely worth of testing and CPU heavy so good for CPU test!
Thanks, Steve
ITS HAPPENING EVERYBODY STAY CALM
Finally full power x3d cpu that is unlocked, 20 or 30w more power in gaming is totally fine. I WANT MOARRRRR FPS
My cat dice are ordered. If only snowy would high five my box! Is something I never saw myself saying but hey, now we're here!
Dude AMD is insane rn
7800X3D & 9800 X3D is absolute monster in gaming, unbeatable back to back
Another amazing review, “Thanks Steve!” For all of your team’s hard work to deliver this to us. ❤
With my 7950X 3D steel running like a champ and in 95 percent of situations not being maxed out for work and play I only see myself upgrading to the newer motherboards and memory
Intel is cooked
Hey Steve, with 1440p becoming the possible 'new 1080p', do you think its worth it to benchmark @ 1440p on these v-cache CPUs?
Still sitting on my 5800x3d but may consider upgrading now. Thanks, Theodore!
his last breath 2:36
Cannot wait for the 9950X3D... just wish it had 4 memory channels rather than 2 ;_;
Not this week’s only crushing victory
Keep in mind this is a release review, they didn't have time to go HAM yet. People have spotted supposed benchmarks running at 5.46 Ghz so I'm curious how far you can push this chip. Looking forward to the OC stream!
DerBauer ran his at 5.6! Check his video.
@Dr1ftop1a damn! Thanks for the tip!
Excellent review, as always!
Which game benchmark most closely resembles CS2? I am looking to improve 1% and 0.1% lows more than overall fps. Thanks!
