With how much closer it runs to 60 FPS while in Quality mode, I imagine that FromSoft could get it to hold a pretty much "locked" 60 with a patch to implement PSSR upscaling.
I don't know if it's true, but I've heard people suggesting that FromSoftware's engine might not be compatible with upscalers and that this is why they never added support for things like DLSS, FSR and XeSS on PC. There has to be some reason, because it's stands out as unusual that the biggest game of 2022 didn't have what is a pretty standard feature nowadays. Could also just be Japanese devs being Japanese devs though lol.
Yeah I didn't expect that, last time it was very limited for GPU bootlenecks. These tests are also showing that most FPS problems are not because of the CPU, it's just dumb graphics.
This is the review we’ve all been waiting for, thank you DF for all your hard work! Giving the fact that the game's not even officially "pro enhanced", I'll happily take that performance improvement! I was really hoping for some sort of native Pro boost even when the support's not officially there. And it seems we will get just that!
This is what I'm most looking forward to with the PS5 pro. So many games struggle to hit their frame rates and I'm hoping the pro can help in a lot of ways. Though there seems to be some limitations

Yea most of them only had a 10 to 15 fps drops on ps5 so the pro should clean that up with rt of course. But capcom has to patch it to take full advantage of the silicon.

So people want to complain about the price of a console that’s at least half the price of an Nvidia 40 series graphics card whilst simultaneously complaining that it cannot perform like the Nvidia 40 series graphics card that’s at least double it’s price for that one component alone. So you want incredible performance but don’t want to pay exorbitant prices for it. You’re not going to get one without the other
@james6818 You can literally build a computer for £700 and get more performance and do other things than just play games. It's £700 for the ps5 pro. You also need a good tv/monitor to even get the most out of it so how can you possibly think it's a good deal?
It's crazy how much you guys love VRR now. At the start of the gen, the channel basically treated it like a throwaway technology that no one had access to, and its relevance in comparisons and making games feel better to play, while having better image quality, despite whatever a fps counter said, was ignored and minimized. Now, though, you guys seem to love it. I wonder what changed.
What are you talking about? They've all talked about the benefits of VRR for years and even complained how the PS5's VRR mode isn't as good as Xbox's. Rich even made a dedicated video about it in 2020, talking about the benefits before the PS5 or Xbox Series came out. It wasn't really recommended as a go to solution because manufactures weren't, and sometimes still don't implement it. But also from the software perspective, it wasn't always working as expected. From a 2018 article that Richard wrote: "It's potentially a revolution in the console space - just as it has been for PC gamers. Variable refresh technology is a big win for improving the game experience, lessening judder and removing screen-tearing. ...- FreeSync - that has been built into Xbox One, and we've finally had the chance to test the technology. Clearly it's still early days, but at its best, the results are quite remarkable. ...Microsoft deserves kudos for embracing the future of display technology and laying the groundwork for support on what is likely to evolve into a very important feature."
As I mention before to the sony fanboys it doesn't matter how much more powerful the ps5 pro is, if the games are not optomized for the ps5 pros power it won't use it. They will have to "remaster" another game and then you rebuy the same game just to literally hold 6 steady in medium to low settings. The game its self maxes out at 60 fps and it can't hold that up. Its really a very cheap upgrade. I'm not comparing it to a pc/ laptop, just stating facts, they really didn't do anything that significant and if they haven't specifically redone and old game(since they don't seem to wanna optimize for future games) then its really not worth if it you have a ps5
Thats the problem with console games it is up to the developers to patch the game. Console games have locked settings that cannot utilize new features. This is like buying a new 30 or 40 series card and not being able to use it due to restrictions. What if your favorite game never gets patched?
This is a good point. If the console sells badly, there is no incentive for a developer to patch a game. Great examples are red dead redemption 2 or Bloodborne
Why PS5 Pro still can’t hold a steady 60fps? What’s the point in spending $700 for it then? I did bought my pro and regret it cause thinking my ps5 games will run at steady 60fps but still doesn’t
If $700 is "extraordinary" for a more powerful console which you're entitled to say then PLEASE just stop comparing consoles to way more expensive PCs without ever mentioning price.
for 300$ you have a RX 7600 XT which have 21,5 teraflops. even with a processor, ssd, power supply, pc case, you have a decent pc cheaper and more powerful that this scam.
The price range would be around $700 for a PC that, from what we can tell, would still outperform the Pro. So, we're not even talking about PCs being more expensive than the Pro. And I'm not even considering used parts here.

I imagine that the average buyer willing to spend 700 on a console has a 120hz vrr capable display. I'm hoping that going forward Devs can target locked 40fps in quality mode and target a baseline of 49fps in performance mode to stay in the vrr window. I can't tell when a game drops into the 50's with my vrr display and I think the difference between 30 and 40fps is huge. I'm very sensitive to low frame rate and simply can't play a 30fps game but I played Spiderman 2 in 40fps mode and was a great experience.
From playing on PC I can say that that dragon area in the beginning of the video and some other water based area's with some particles were the only parts where my fps dropped, while in more visually complex parts fps was rock solid, which means that even though the PRO's GPU upgrade is really nice, this might be a CPU problem? Anyway no problems on either PS5 when you just play the PS4 version with the PS4 pro patch :)
@ nah it will be just fine. It will perform like a 7800XT and 4070 no problem at all. This is just one sample size and very early results are impressive without any optimization of the console. I’m convinced that all of these games that run better, could run better on the base PS5 too with patches. Yeah, slightly improved frame rate makes sense, but skips and stutters shouldn’t happen on either console.
Game uses Persona 5 graphics and that game ran on a ps3. Now Atlus can't even do 60 on a ps5. Guess I shouldn't be suprised with how much Sega's has clearly been interfering with Atlus.
I would call it a bad deal at this point. The builds we were making for around $700 are outperforming it by 15%, and they get FSR 3 Frame Generation and XeSS to replace PSSR. If you wait for the RX 8000 series builds are probably going to be even cheaper than the Pro for better performance. If you don't want a PC, which would make sense because if all the games you may have on PlayStation, then yeah, this is the best performance you can on consoles.
The cpu is still gimped, I’ve been watching Brazil pixel uploads & even on games like Alan wake 2 with official patch the cpu is holding it back, you get res boosts but only slight fps improvements because of the faster ram.
@@joseijosei I'm 100% on the PC wagon at this point, but I do have to question where you're buying PC parts from that you can get them cheap enough to build a PS5 Pro level setup for $700. The GPU and CPU alone would cost you $700, most places. Unless you're talking used parts.

A 30-35% performance boost is very big if you ask me. In the PC world this only happens on a new generation and even then its rare. Pro is mid way within a generation, and that improvement is quite impressive not gonna lie.
It's more like 30%, but... that's 15% below what we were expecting when making PC builds for around $700, so it's below a PC for the same price. I would call it dissapointing, but still much better than the PS5.
Why does the ps5 pro versions have that warm filter? Plus it looks softer than the ps5 versions at times. I like that the frame rate is higher but that warm filter on the pro version is ugly.
Imagine having an option to manually lower game render resolution in game to attain a locked 60fps. Crazy idea I know but just think about cool that would be.
It wouldn’t be that hard. Really they just need a profile that is carefully considered per title and says in its description “locks framerate to 60fps at a considerable loss to fidelity” alongside a balanced mode and quality mode
I respect it, alot of games are still GPU bound and are reaching 60fps+. dope to hear GT7 are delivering 4K120fps locked, close as we'll get to a PC version until they decide to finally do it. As always its the games that get some developer time that will impress and confuse the most. only bummer is their decision to keep the CPU super conservative, I was really willing to excuse them hearing that it might be 6nm but now having more information that it seems to be at least a fork of 5/4nm I really dont get it. I know they want to keep it conservative as an extension of PS5 generation but just a bit more CPU grunt would have done wonders, this is the second time the mid-gen system kept the same CPU with just adjusted clocks but 10 percent is almost a nothing burger for the CPU heavy titles that will be stock at 30fps. Overall I think its a good machine and I see a lovely path for the next generation, hopefully they can do more to up the value and try to normalize the pricing. I don't find it very expensive, they just made bad decisions on the consumer front, 2TB instead of 1TB, No Disk Drive, No Special accessory to set it slightly premium to the perception (like make it moan on boot)
About Elden Ring: this performance is with no special PS5 pro patch, right? So performance could still be enhanced further. Overall I'm hearing a lot of good stuff. And I also should really get AC6 now.
If you're testing big games that aren't Pro enhanced try Avatar Frontiers of Pandora. I swear there's no difference between Quality and Performance now but I'd love to hear it from you guys.
I’d love to see how the Sx fairs against the 5pro. Mostly in the staying in the vrr window in performance mode. How much smoother is the pro compared to the next best thing? Cheers guys

@@kevinalonso6338 what a dumb comment. Whilst I don’t know for certain, I’d be very surprised if it is. The lack of Dolby Vision is consoles manufacturers not wanting to pay the licence fee for every single console when most people won’t use it rather than a technical limitation. Would be very pleased if it did get added though!
No patch or optimalisation... it doesn't make fully use of the hardware (yet). Either way... when you don't have a PS5, 350 extra (compared to the digital Slim) seems like a pretty good deal to me. Bigger HD, better Wifi, upgraded GPU, PSSR,...
It feels like console manufacturers have been promising 60FPS for the last two generations before launch and yet here we are having the same conversations and analysis, and in many ways it feels like we have to be compromising quality or buying over priced revisions of hardware to get to that magic number, and yet here we are again as this video has proved that we have largely the same problems and comprises, albeit to a slightly lesser degree, it's a tease to sell more hardware.
At that price point 60FPS will always be a topic. Yes even at the PS5 Pro price. It wouldnt be if games stayed the same. But they change as well. So 60FPS will probably stay the console sweet spot for a while. Maybe oneday there will be a huge leap in tech. Maybe with PS6 maybe 7. Nobody knows
Buying a disk drive in my geo now is nearly impossible, what am I suppose to do with a PS5 pro w/o disc drive and all I have are mountains of physical copies... Come on Sony...

This again. The Zen 2 CPU is more than enough to hit 60fps in most titles. Not to mention the Pro has higher power draw and CPU boost mode so the CPU can stay at those high frequencies for longer with only a slight hit to GPU performance. Funny how people need to use a horribly optimised game to dunk on the Pro.

So they will make it run better. By dropping the resolution lower than the standard ps5. Is that what you are saying.
Yea most of them only had a 10 to 15 fps drops on ps5 so the pro should clean that up with rt of course. But capcom has to patch it to take full advantage of the silicon.

Absolutely!!
If you played it you'd see what a difference it makes
No its just a trash Performance game
The answer is a resounding NO. Only 700$ baby! 800 in EU!
They have to justify the Pro
Clearly it's still early days, but at its best, the results are quite remarkable. ...Microsoft deserves kudos for embracing the future of display technology and laying the groundwork for support on what is likely to evolve into a very important feature."

imo the ps5 pro is should have been the ps5 we got to begin with
As I mention before to the sony fanboys it doesn't matter how much more powerful the ps5 pro is, if the games are not optomized for the ps5 pros power it won't use it.
Hey Sony, no disc drive , no buy that's easy...

From playing on PC I can say that that dragon area in the beginning of the video and some other water based area's with some particles were the only parts where my fps dropped, while in more visually complex parts fps was rock solid, which means that even though the PRO's GPU upgrade is really nice, this might be a CPU problem?
