FINALLY!! A channel that talks about computer tech from a creator point of view rather than just gaming. It's so wearisome that everyone else seems to think people are only using their computers to play games and to see performance charts and graphs based on how well a system will run Fortnight, etc etc. Please keep up the content, it's much needed and appreciated. You've earned yourself a subscriber!
😉
That’s a big reason why there are so many advances in graphics cards and processors because that is where the majority of the market is and that would explain why so many reviews are gaming focused.
@@45enoAt the same time though, these processors are aimed at the enthusiast market like Threadripper is. Most gamers at most would be rocking Ryzen 5s and Ryzen 7s.
@@infiniteblaz3416 Yep I agree. I have a 5900x only because they took an extra $100 off it so I got it at $250 out the door. I have two 5800x in the house on my son's 1440p system and a MediaPC w/ 6700xt for a 4k/5.1 surround living room. My daughters,wife,2 other media PC's all rock 5600/5600x.
@@45eno Oh don’t worry. I’m also rocking a 5900X myself. Lol. I love this processor but what people also don’t talk about is overall system performance. My 5600 non X I had, I can occasionally see it wanting to stall when I start heavily multitasking. 5900X on the other hand, it just plows through everything and I love it. 😂
For me is worth it. I use my pc for music production and video editing, and light gaming, at first I was using a ryzen 7 3700x. But now I got my hands on a Ryzen 9 5950x, and let me tell you, the difference is day and night, I can move faster without having to wait 15 minutes to render a 4K video, now I can get it done in 5 minutes, and then move to my next project. I got the 5950x over the 5900x because the extra cores, I use so many plugins and virtual instruments while I'm mixing a costumer's project, such like compressors, pitch plugins, reverts...ect. the type of plugins that I use can max out to 100% an 8 core CPU easy, plus having to mix the vocals in the same project really put a lot of stress on the CPU some people masteries and mix the beat on one project and then use the whole beat and move to another project to mix it with the vocals. But that's not efficient and time consuming, because if lets say that you finish the whole project like that (mixing the vocals ) and then want to make some changes to the beat only, then you have to go back to the old project (if you haven't delete it) and then make changes to the beat, and then mix it again with the vocals. That's time consuming. But with this beast of a CPU I can mix the beat and the vocals in the same project and my CPU will handle the load. The load of a game is nothing compare to this type of projects. One more thing if you just planning on making beats, an 8 core CPU will be just fine, but when you start getting into the more professional aspect of music, you will need expensive software, and hardware. ( in case some in the comments be like: "oh but 8 core is just fine for music") no is not, if you work professionally and time is money.
Tnx Buddy Love You For This ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for doing creator focussed reviews. I don't game and it is so hard to find non-gaming reviews and benchmarks. I just got a 5900X at $399 and upgraded from 3700X and the 30-80% boost was well worth it. The difference in Davinci Resolve is amazing.
im also getting the 5900x for $380 from a 3600, can't wait til it gets here to see the editing differences
This is what I'm about to do! Hopefully still a worthwhile upgrade in 2023, I'd love to go with a 7000 series chip but then I'd have to also upgrade RAM & Motherboard and the cost sky rockets
@@DemonSaine what is your experience soo far? With the 3600 i have stutters with live video playback at 4k. Did you have the same and how is it with the 5900x?
@@mikewow I actually haven't noticed a significant difference when it comes to playback and rendering but thats because I use Hardware encoding with my 2070 Super and thats where my gou falls short when editing effect heavy projects. If its a simple edit then it works flawlessly whether its with my 3600 or 5900X since the gpu isnt working as hard, but I have complex timelines in my videos and it causes stutter every now and then
@@DemonSaine i have the same graphics card 😅 but i have the free version of davinci resolve. And i believe i cant enable hardware acceleration with the free version soo its more cpu heavy
The 5950x is better if you have several programs running at the same time due to the extra cores. Like running premiere pro, illustrator, photoshop, auditions and live streaming on OBS at the same time.
Yep, indeed, that's correct, and that sounds like my Monday to Friday! :)
And 3900x? Os good?
Call bs...
And 3D Rendering could benefit the most since it's multi-thread based.
Indeed that is where it surely is worth is extra cores.
I´m watching this video right now as I work in 3D models and simulations for engineering. I must say that the 5900X can handle 3 or more CAD programs at the same time, while you browse internet or have like pdfs open.
5950X was out of the question for me, due to the price.
Thanks for the input!
Thank you, you really helped out! I was procrastinating big time with this.
dude I just want to thank you. I had no idea what I actually needed for editing and without your channel I may not have been able to figure it out. Because you focus on creators it was really easy to get the information. Still watching for upgrades. Thanks for doing all this work.
Thanks for the video!!

I'm waiting for 5970x 32 cores or 5990x 64 cores if there are coming out.
im undecided :-( I want to game /stream to twitch using a 6700xt. I know if i buy the 5900x ill just eat the rest i was gonna spend on a 5950x.....I love food lol I dont mind playing and streaming at 1080p so which one would you recommend. the 5900x can now be had for £360 whereas 5950x goes for £470. Thanks for video!
As always, great info!!!
I love this video/photo centric reviews. Just the exact info that I want!
I only upgrade every 5-7 years so when I do, I go big, currently on 5950x with 3080 all watercooled. Bought everything at MSRP at release last year. For me the future proofing is worth it.
👍
im the same way, my set up i just built 4 months ago cost 8000 buck in parts!
@@jeffdughman9741 8000/5-7 years is still way more than even most high end averages haha
Agreed, I had a 3950x & 2080ti when I built my latest PC a couple of years ago - Upgraded to 5950x & 3080ti AND recouped some of the money from the sale of my old parts.
3080 already outdated though lol
Thank you for all your creator content man. Seriously it’s helped me so much. With the help of your vids I’m doing a build with:
Asus ProArt X570 Creator
5950x
Kraken X73
3080Ti (waited in line at best but and it was my only choice lol wanted a 3080)
And the Azza 804V Case.
After seeing this, I wish I’d waited to see your opinion, saved the money and gotten the 5900x because it looks like it’s the same for my purposes 🙃😭.
But that’s my fault lol thanks for all the help man. Keep it up!
P.S: Could you do a vid on your favorite/the best RAM kits paired with the 5950x. I’m stuck between a few
Just buy any kit that runs at 3600mhz with cl16 and is dual rank at 32GB minimum, you can do cl18 if you looking for something that as a design you like but thats upto you.
64gb if you are seriously into video editing and that 5950x will be able to make full use of that.
@@RavinderSingh-iv3sr thank you, I’ll use this info to shop around 🔥
I am running 128gb of T-Force RGB at 3600MHz with xmp profile 1 via bios... no issues what so ever. I also have a Asus 3080ti and AMD 5950 on a Gigabyte X570S Aero G
also I was a first time builder myself but thanks to tech notice it went smoothly and couldn't be happier with my setup... i can share pics with you too if you'd like
I went with the 5950x on a Gigabyte X570S Aero G boards, 64Gb of T-Force RAM.
Video and photo editing is only part of what I do; as well as looking to keep my new rig for at least 9 to 10 years as I did with the one I just replaced built in the spring of 2012. With this in mind, the $250 difference now is worth it to me, as it is $25.00 / year or $2.10 / month. Look at your long term investment and if possible, resale or reuse (file server, etc…) when you upgrade again.
Subbed! This is what I wanted to see!
this is my new fave channel...when im researching gear and TN pops up Im f'n pumped! Great production, super clear concepts, for creators...sick channel
😇😇
I been binging your vids and just wanna say I appreciate the constant uploads dedicated to creators. Keep grinding🔥
I have a 3950x and the main purpose of my machine is rendering utilizing cpu render engines. The extra cores make a very notable difference for me. Honestly If it were not for that need I would probably not have the 3950x and would have went for a cpu with fewer cores. The multitasking capability is also a benefit. I have a 360mm AIO on mine. When I run my renders under full load with all 16 cores I hit around 70c in temps.
Thanks for the info.. can you also test some benchmark for substance painter. This is used in gaming industry for baking maps.
Thanks for this video!! Thanks to some of your previous videos, I ended up buying the 5900X, the difference is price I saved from buying that processor I can put for getting the most premium X570 Creator board possible... Kudos!
😉👌
Every one of your videos I have watched has answered at least one question I have had in the back of my mind. This one leads me to think that when I upgrade my 3900x, I will probably go for the (supposedly coming soon) 5900xt (or whatever they call it), not the 5950xt. At 4k editing and a tiny bit of gaming, I do not need the extra cores.
Buen video, felicidades. Saludos desde Cali, Colombia.
Love your videos keep going
Thanks for your comment! will do!
Thank you for another real life oriented review. Well made and to the point. as ever. I have been looking to upgrade my ten year old system for about a year. And thanks to you, among others, I had set my sights on the 5900x. Hoping for a good Black friday/Black week offer to make it more affordable. Turned out they had such a good deal on the 5950x that I couldn't pass it up. There was almost no price difference. It was a no brainer. I just love the great value you can get during generation changes. 😁
Problem is sometimes the inventory is an issue too. Over here on the states there is a place called Microcenter and they have 25+ 5950x in stock but literally Zero 5900x so for me it was just okay spend the extra money to get a 5950x vs 5800x
That's a very fair point! 👍
I would be interested to see what moving to a 5950X brings to a system running a 3900x?
Would it be worth the cost and time to upgrade? Probably not for me given my 1080p basic as hell videos and Photography work.. but still kinda curious... just kinda.
I really should be pricing up storage upgrades and not looking at CPU's.. dam you RUclips algorithm.
Haha, yeah probably not worth the upgrade as a CPU. :)
8:01 I got the dual fan Corsair H100i Elite Capellix for the 5900x I ordered.. should I return the dual fan and get a triple fan? Super new to PC building haha, I appreciate it!
Thanks for the comparison! I had thought about getting 16 cores (3950 or 5950) for the next computer, but it looks like the 5900 will be just fine and also way more cost effective.
I really enjoy some of these comparison videos. At the end of the day it comes down to how the individual user is going to use it. I myself, will be going for these 16-core variant because I do a huge amount of multitasking and the extra cores are definitely going to help with that. Do I necessarily like to have to spend a premium on that ability? Not really. I would almost go with the 12 core version but at the same time, having an additional four cores does make a huge difference for my type of workload.
I absolutely understand, and I would personally do the same thing. I'm currently running the 3950x. Might upgrade to the 6950x when that comes out, but we'll have to see. :)
@@theTechNotice I'm currently running a mobile workstation. I've had a total of four monitors connected to the poor thing. I bought it when quad-core was King. Before the hexa core and Octa Core even hit the market. Unfortunately now, with my workload changing it is definitely showing its age but at this point in time even obtaining Hardware is becoming nearly impossible
@@theTechNotice Hello everyone, can you tell me if the 5900x will work on the b470 msi game max? I now have 7 Ryzen 2700x, I really want to increase productivity in editing and other programs, but I'm not ready to change the entire system, can I install this processor? Or will I have to take a 570 chip?
I save my money and went with the 5900x. Thank you!!
Only time my CPU struggled was when I was running production with 12 webcam feeds from OBSNinja into OBS, game capture, multiple browser captures, and feeds for chat, twitter, etc. It was at that moment when it was pinging 95% usage that I began searching for upgrades. 5950 looking nice
edit: upgraded to the 12900k
Do you really need 12 webcams 🤡
@@Juan_deep we had 12 different hosts / casters in our production lol so yeah
Great video!
I am still thinking about upgrading to one of these. On the other hand m1x is just behind the corner. My mate got m1 mb pro and playback performance is amazing without the need of getting into proxies/optimized media. I am still running on 1080ti which has limited support for hardware decoding. Getting 3080 (whatever the ti/lhr/etc version) still cost ~2k $ here, which is the price of the m1 mb. On top of that you can take it anywhere with you. I can't do it with my 20kg rig :P.... tough decision to make - I only work with video, davinci resolve.
Stay tuned regards the M1x stuff, reviews and tests coming out on the channel.
But right now I can suggest you think if you need the editing on the go or not, coz if you don't you can get a LOT more powerful stationary PC that wipes the floor with M1, not sure what the M1x will look like yet, stay tuned :)
But since you're using Resolve, which is well optimised for M1, it's not a bad contender, so I understand your frustration :)
@@theTechNotice
I wonder if Apple paid Blackmagic to optimize Davinci for OSX/M1 chip. Other companies did similar things in the past, like Intel with “Cripple AMD” :P
But putting aside conspiracy theories, I guess with new Apple silicon, developers had to deal with a single chip only. We could as well try to compare games on PC vs consoles running on the same hardware, where console games can be optimized as they don't have to run on X number of different cpu's, gpu's, mobo's combos, so it must be more difficult to optimize software for windows/linux, given the various hardware these OS's are running on.
Back to your question, is mobility a must? no, but it would be nice add-on - I could sift through entire footage while sitting outside on the sunny day, then go back inside and continue edit on the proper monitor.
At the end of the day I will have to make a choice - I expect 5900x to be 1/5th of the price of the 14/16" m1x
Price difference could cover new camera body, upcoming mavic 3 pro, you name it
Just picked up a 5950x for around 250 bucks. over here in Thailand they do a day called 12/12 kind of like black friday, should be a good upgrade from the R5 5600x I'm running just now, now to see if I can get a good deal on a 3080 to replace my 3060, not expecting much luck though as doesn't seem to be any deals on GPU's that I can find.
Very interesting and well explained..but how do they compare when running 3D apps like Blender, Maya, C4D etc

One use case for the higher cores/ threads would be software development with multiple vms/ containers/ clusters. A typical setup might be one cluster/ 2 nodes for each of database, web server, internal queues and cache stores, distributed storage, monitoring tools etc. It can easily put 10-12 cores to use and leave 4 cores for other tasks like web browsing including youtube/ downloads/ photo editing. So basically the use case for a 5950x over a 5900x is as a low cost Threadripper 😀
Now, the clusters could also be rented out on AWS or Azure, but there are people who would like to run prototypes locally without involving a 3rd party.
Thank you .
I just picked up a 5950x for roughly the same price I paid for my 5900x in November of 2021. Cooling it with a Noctua U12a, but I strapped Phanteks T30's to it with Kryonaut Extreme and it's running really nice. 64gb ram at 3466mhz on an AsRock X570 Razer Edition. RTX 3060 ti currently, but hoping to get a 4070 soon. The processor was more important imo.
Hi ! Great video here. In your opinion, today a 5900X worth the price ? (In France we can get it for 350 euro) To upgrade from a 5600X ? To do video editing principaly and of course some games in 1080p or rarely in 1440p ?
Finally! 😍
I've got both, I leave them both running 24/7 doing cpu rendering. The 3900x runs a bit hotter, but both are fine with the Dark Rock 4.... for my scenes I find the 5950x is about 40% faster than the 3900x at the processing it does. But I also have all kinds of things open at once on both.... but yes, if you're gonna do a lot of everything, go for more cores.
You need a pop screen or wind sock for your mic, or move the mic off to the side not directly in front of you. It will make the audio less choppy.
Thanks for the tip.
I have upgraded to 5950x and have never been happier, In general I am multitasker from Blender, DaVinci and Photosho can be open at once.
Oh yeah, I have everything open at once!
So true, it's just insanely powerful CPU considering it's power draw.
@@theTechNotice LOL.... yeah. I hate having to close windows I'm working on just to open another one that I need to watch and take a break. It's just faster moving back and forth. Over the course of a few years, it might well be worth that extra $250.
I run a 5620k and have no issues with working in Resolve, Blender, Nuke & whathaveya at the same time. I’m considering a 5950x, but i need better single core performance for 3D physics simulation. In that regard, my 5620 isnt too far off from the 5950x, which is why I’m considering 5900x instead…
thanks for the video.
Would you also loan an RTX A8000 for a video? There is not enough content on that card
I would love to, I don't yet have a personal contact with Nvidia, I'll try to make it happen. At the moment a lot of things are about to be announced so lot's of cool stuff coming soon :)
I built my PC back in 2019 right before the pandemic and paid around $200 for a Ryzen 7 2700x that was on sale and just upgraded to a 5950x this week after a 4 year wait, performance is really good especially since I've been getting into Video Editing and Game Design projects on Unity and Unreal Engine for school, but also I can game comfortably with 50+ Chrome Tabs open! Since this is the last CPU I'm buying for AM4, I decided to splurge and go all out, especially for the extra cores when running the editing and game design software and other various tasks and programs/applications in the background when gaming at the same time possibly since it is a future-proof precaution in-case if those extra cores and threads would come in handy in the future
Is the 5900x still good for streaming and gaming (+ additional programs in background) in good quality at the same time? Or is that not realistic? (considering I'd use Nvenc for a 3080 as streaming encoder / I also wouldn't have a water cooling system since the one I might buy is prebuilt)
Now that the new Ryzen 4 are about to come out, I was really thinking of upgrading my 5900x to the 5950x but the more comparison videos I watch, the more I realize I don’t need it. If that moment ever comes when I do feel I need it, I will definitely do the upgrade. I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s sun $400 at that point. I have a question, do you think it worth upgrading from a 3080 ti to a 3090 ti?
what would be the partner GPU of ryzen 9 5900x for photographers and videographers? thanks! hehe.. like performance of 30xx series or small difference
is there a percievable difference in timeline playback / scrubbing in Resolve? I don't care about render times that much. I wonder if the x3d variant would beat them both in scrubbing, because in render it's worse for sure.
I have a 5900x with a noctua nh-d15 , 3080 ftw3 ultra inside of a phanteks entho primo with 7x140 fans. during 3dsmax/ keyshot renders my cpu often gets into the mid 80s same thing when gaming. About a month ago, I upgraded my Ryzen 5 3600 and b450 mobo to a 5900x and an Aorus Master B550 mobo. The uplift was massive. I considered the 5950x, but these days the 5900x is available for around $340 USD, while the 5950x is around $550 USD, and the extra spend didn't seem worth it.
I was afraid to watch this video, for fear that I'd end up regretting not spending the extra money for the 5950x. I'm relieved to see that I probably made the right decision!
Very glad to see the perspective of a creator - the 5900x and 5950x are almost certainly overkill for gaming, but for video editing/exporting/converting, it makes a world of a difference.
Also regarding cooling, I can largely confirm what you've explained in the video. I started with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE, and under extreme artificial loads like Cinebench, max temps were around 81 C. That btw is WITH PBO and CPB enabled.
For reasons that aren't terribly interesting, I ended up swapping that out for a Corsair 360 AIO, and under the same load my max temps are around 80. The temperature differences are negligible, but the sound difference is night & day. The AIO runs so much quieter than the air cooler did.
It's crazy seeing this knowing I bought a 5950x for 300 3 months ago

guys would a EVGA/Asus Strix 3090/ti be a big jump from a 3070 Asus Tuf running 5950x(Asus Strix 360 White AIO) Asus Tuf x570 2 2Tb 980 Pro etc
Hi Tech Notice, the 'lamp' over your right shoulder with the flame effect... have you an affiliate link for that! :)
Scroll down in the description ;)
Playback->Render Cache->Smart is the only action in Davinci Resolve 17 which is using 100% of 24 treads of 5900X. I wonder how much faster would that be on 5950X - Wink Wink ;) ;)
I've got a very cool 5950x build coming up soon, stay tuned :)
I went with the 5950x, the way i look at it is you can never have enough cores in my opinion. Great chip, cooling with a 280 rad corsair aio.
I’ve just ordered a 5900x for gaming and streaming, editing videos for RUclips etc. Should be more than enough for me.
Nice video bro
Good choice!
how is it?
@@thage0 the 5900x? It’s more than anyone needs for gaming/streaming. I run it with a 360mm AIO and it’s got great temps, would highly recommend
@@davejohnson1715 just got it but i got it with the H510 Flow case is that bad
@@thage0 no I wouldn’t say so. Gamer Nexus gave an ok review on that case, just get yourself a decent CPU cooler. I would recommend a decent AIO, just ensure whatever size you get will fit in your case
nice one
First I had an r7 2700 8 core, the best I could get out of it was x264 fast in OBS. Then I got a 5900x and it could easily do x264 slow all day long. Finally I just got a 5950x thinking l could go down another level or two to x264 slower/est... But guess what... It can't, without dropping at least 50% of frames. It'll do slow with any x264 option I throw at it, but it won't touch slower. Considering it's got another 4 cores it's quite disappointing, diminishing returns I guess?
Like your creator content very much. Unfortunately, 3D rendering falls short in your content. Content creation is more than just photo and video editing. You should also consider e.g. Blender, Vray and Corona benchmarks in your tests. Especially in this comparison here, the 4 cores make a big difference in 3D rendering.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Wow best review eva between 5900x and 5950x
I've been running the 5950x since January of this year and it does everything I need it to. I needed it to do a lot of heavy lifting by running VM's, Adobe PS and AI, and even bitcoin mining.
If 3090s weren't so expensive I would have bought one but my 3080 does just fine for now. But that 10gb vram is a bit constricting and I could us about 16gb for my day to day.
6900xt says hello 👋
@@TheRagingStorm98 I tried. I tried so hard. got lucky with bestbuy getting the gigabyte 3080 master.
Good video you never made videos of laptops again, I wanted to ask you between the HP OMEN and the ASUS ROG STRIX which one you think is the best laptop
I send all laptop enquiries to Ben G Kaiser, he's the best, go check him out, he has an angel we're for you.
Just got 5950x.
I probably don't "need" it but the intended work load will utilize it.
Hope it will last me a while :D
12 core vs 16 core is now (June 2022) only $150 difference. If your building a working machine to do actual multi core work - it's worth the $150.
If you're building a game box, you only need a AMD Ryzen 5 5600G and put the extra $369 you save into buying a better GPU Graphics video card.
That's about it. :-) The Ryzen 5 5600G also is a 65 Watt chip, saving you money on electric and cooling vs the 105 Watt 12 or 16 core CPUs.
Anyone tried this comparison with Ableton/daw with multiple plugins selected on multiple tracks ? I have a 3600g and it's bottlenecking with plugins I wanted to upgrade but I wanted to see the difference between these cpu's
Best CPU Coolers for the Ryzen 9 5950x
1.DeepCool air cooler AK620 or Noctua D15?
Cooler buying guide coming up soon! :)
I have this chip and I would suggest, if you get the 5950x, Highly recommend you get a Lian Li o11 XL or regular for the airflow. It gets pretty hot in other cases. With a Noctua Dh-15(1 fan only) and 6 intake fans, the 5950x at no fixing settings, everything auto boost, gets 75-79c with 11 of my cores hitting 5,1ghz and the rest at 4,7 mostly.
To be honest the Lian Li 011 is not a very good case for aircoolers. I ran it in the Corsair 5000d which has direct intake to the cooler and I had no problems. In the 011 air has to bend and it doesn't work very well with aircooled towers.
@@theTechNotice When I was using a H710, it would be in the 90c for be and when it dropped 25-30c, it totally changed. That depends on how you place the fans btw. hot air is better then no air at all.
Just ordered the 5900x for $460 from Amazon. I'll be using it for VM gaming.
A year later and the 5900X is $319.99 and the 5950X is $479.99. Got both today on Amazon.
Hello, for Ryzen 9 5900x, in Cinebench R23, I am getting a multithread score of 18100 -18800 only. Does this mean it is faulty CPU or its normal. note I am not overclocking the CPU by any means. My MB is B450M DS3H
Hello.. thanks for this video.. i have a question.. my daily use is premiere pro and after effects.. sometimes i use unreal engine..
the question is.. which one better for me? cause my GPU is 2060 super.. thank you before..
for now, im using Ryzen 7 3700x, RTX 2060 Super, and 64GB of RAM..
In virtual machine projects or any other multi cpu usage apps/software/games more cpu/cores much better
Is 5900X good for 3D rendering in Maya, Max, Blender, RealFlow, Substance Painter. I am confuse plz help. I am also worried about the kind of head produce by it, there are lots of review showing its very hot even while doing simple use.
This “whokeys”.. It will work on Czech language version of Windows? Because there is “regions” on the website and it looks like it is limited to some versions of win… 🤷🏼♂️
i just built my video editing rig. 5900x with an evga GeForce rtx 3080, 64gb ram, and 980 pro m.2 drives all sitting on a gigabyte x570 aorus extreme mb. so far so good!
👍
where did you buy your graphics card?
@@LordLuigi_Rigs facebook marketplace. plenty of people are either upgrading or selling parts online. Specifically military personnel because they're transferring to another state and don't want to ship their gaming rigs. :They figure they can just build another one when they get to where they're being stationed. Prices are still high but on par with the market. It's a shame these miners are ruining it for the rest of us.
if i only use obs for streams and apex or somethink thats perfect right
I could have bought either of these 12 months ago but settled on the 5900x as I will never use the extra cores of the 5950x. Apart from that, they seem to be virtually the same processer.
I'm mostly audio daw, audio you want cores but also speed virtual instruments cores. 5900x was the better choice and still doing a good job.
i am buying it for vsti emulation for dsp power heavy mix n mastering production
I'd def buy it if drops to the 500$ range..
Once the 3d cache versions come out, the prices on these will drooooooop! And I am just waiting for that so I can nab one of these for cheap and upgrade my processor!
Great idea!
I doubt it’ll drop
Please make video on best monitor s for 3 d rendering
Done! Check out my review on Benq PD3200u
Again what you want out of the system matters, actually I am wondering if the extra up front for the additional cores could possibly extend the life of the system by a couple of years hence justifying the extra cost.
Used to be that was not as big of a question when a pretty good low top tier system was $2000 or so dollars, just build an all new one in a couple of years.
But as the cost has continued to rise to build a nice system paying that bit more for a chip that really is above a users current days needs and installing the next higher normal amount of ram such as 64gb vs 32 gb will it be the difference needed to extend the systems life span as an enjoyable to use system for say 2 extra years make the added few hundreds of dollar investment a smart move overall?
I am sort of bouncing that around as I write this post actually.
If you're on After Effects the 5900X is ideal as of now. However, Adobe is currently bringing back the WAY overdue multi-core - multi-frame rendering and so then the 5950X should be well worth the extra cash.
yeah, been in beta for a long time, can't wait for it to come out.
@@theTechNotice Me too! Although still, like 90+% of all these apps we use will still remain a single core workflow before rendering. So it's sort of a pick your poison... unless you're a houdini user... then buy all the cores you can afford. :)
Im waiting for zen 3D and might get either 5800x or 5900x on discounts
Great idea, I'd go for the 5900x though :)
@@theTechNotice yeah better core headroom
Who knows games later nxt year might fully utilise 8c
@@HuntaKiller91 the 5800x is hotter, too. 5900x is better binned.
No high-pass filter for your mic?
Hello everyone, can you tell me if the 5900x will work on the b470 msi game max? I now have 7 Ryzen 2700x, I really want to increase productivity in editing and other programs, but I'm not ready to change the entire system, can I install this processor? Or will I have to take a 570 chip?
I am pretty sure that it will work. Just make sure to have your bios up to date.
Just bought the 5900x last week 😌
Sweeet!
At the moment I;m running 10 years old rig, i5 3570 with DDR3. I hit the roof like a year ago and now time is to change.
Today difference in price in my country between 5900x (that was my plan) and 5950X is $166 (27% diff). It is not minor, as it is a cost of say 32GB 3200CL16 mem or ALF II 360 AIO.
I'm like 95% productivity: processing 360s, NLE, Sketchup + Vray. I wish to be able to render vray or nle and at be able to write text in Google Docs same time.
That's why I'm thinking about 5950X at the moment. What do you think. Does it makes sense or difference is not so big and 5900X with higher core speed will do better?
Same here, running a solid 5620k atm. Found out that 3d physics simulation needs single core speed, so I’m considering a 5900x over the 5950x. Nevertheless, with PBO the difference would shrink as far as i can tell. Still unsure myself…
@@thenout I bought 5950X. Sudennly I found super good offer 2899 PLN, roughly $700/EUR632.
Now once I have it, I found it is week 30 of 2021, where from November AMD started to release B2 stepping for Ryzens 5000.
Now, I have everything on my desk: mobo, CPU, DDR4, NVMe and thinking If I should hunt for B2 stepping of this CPU...
@@Chris.Mechanic Thanks for the insight mate, i'm fresh to AMD and their naming / lineup, so i've never heard of "b2 stepping". Quick search revealed it's like a 2nd generation type 5000? So i better check with my vendor if the offered 5950x is B2, right?
@@thenout yup! Perfect. Please do that!
Watched your video 5 times then I bought 5900x since I only play games and I don't find the need to spend $250 more in my case 1100 usd since I live in a third world country, and 5900x was about 800 usd and thanks to you I saved $300.

Yeah but does it do better than the 3550h I’m using now? I can render an 8 minute video in just 6 hours
I caught a deal at Best Buy about 2 months ago and got the 5950X for $699.99. And got the 5900X for my wife for $449.99.
Nice!
the CD key website is quite dead..
I know this video is old but the 5950x is 439€ now in my country! I have a 5800x , the 5950 seems like a sweet upgrade now
