I would say it will probably enough to wipe out the 10900k lead in those games where it was ahead, since those margins were mostly small anyway. which is exactly the level of performance AMD claimed in their launch presentation. I cant remember which game it was but they showed the 10900 having a very small lead (2 or 4%) in a single game while the 5950x was ahead in everything else, and they were upfront about those results being achieved with smart access memory and RAGE MODE

The 3000 series release was/is a complete screw up from NVIDIA and are a direct result of poor supply chain management, the stock shortages on the 5000 processors are due to huge demand. I don't understand either. But what bothers me is the difference between this chart compared to the Gamers Nexus one. Look at this video ruclips.net/video/72AHENDeTEI/видео.html (starting at 21:11). The 10900k is only consuming 8% more power than the 5950x stock to stock. Whereas in the Hadware unboxed video the 10900k is so much more power consuming (+33%) than the 5950x. What is going on ?
Maybe the raw numbers are understandably different due to methods of testing, but i suppose the percentage difference should remain the same ?? I'm just looking for an answer, if someone has it... :)

@@whisp9r365 GN Steve explains why in the first few seconds after your timestamp. I'll break it down.
It has to do with Intel's boosting behavior. For the first.... 56 seconds, I think? Intel allows more power to go to the CPU. That length of time is denoted by "tau", and an application going past that amount of time of continuous usage is called "tau expiry". GN Steve took that particular power number AFTER tau expiry, as he says, so the processor wasn't boosting as aggressively. I believe he also showed the 10900K power numbers before tau expiry as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Anyway, HU Steve took his power number before tau expiry in this video, and GN Steve's number for 10900K power draw before tau expiry should be very close to this number.
I hope that clears it up for you!

At the same wattage they would be. Intel has configured their designs to be able to pump up the current flow for clock speeds knowing they can't progress to smaller nodes. So the two are going in different directions and in some ways aren't quite comparable as you put it, with that understanding. 3000 & 5000 are on the same node, so the 5000 gain is quite impressive. I put that down to AMD knowing that TSMC yields are rather good, so they have been able to take a risk and design their silicon more connected knowing there won't be loss-cost hit.

Really fascinating to see how testing suite determines the winner. (Not accusing anyone of tomfoolery) Genuinely interesting how certain games used by various reviewers change the cpu who wins gaming. Good reminder to watch several trusted reviewers trying to find the actual games you play and how the cpus perform in that specific application.

The zen 3 price hike is because, amd can lower it when Intel launches 11gen, this will give amd a advantage for better price to performance. Smart

There's definitely a strategy to being more expensive but best. People will have this in mind for the next year, and if the AMD parts go on sale then people will feel better about their purchase.

And I fully expect AMD to release XT versions of these CPUs with a slight clock speed increase
to get them even closer to the "fabled" 5 GHz mark every1 seems to want,
while also giving Intel's brand new Rocket Lake chips very little chance to reclaim the gaming performance crown.
So even if RL is faster than CL it'd likely barely be enough faster to definitely retake the gaming performance crown.
Only time will tell but for now AMD definitely deserves this win.

My brand new build upgraded from a 2600k to the 5950X, and a GTX 1080 SC to a RTX 3080(still waiting on this). So massive improvement so far, and total extacy when 3080 arives.

These tests were performed with 3200mhz modules? I wonder what performance increase the recommended 4000mhz would see.

Look at third country retailers for it, since it is cheep and has a stock cooler, many third country order a lot of it, more than they could sell. If you don't mind the tax and the shipping cost. Heck you could even buy a tuf 3080 at 19.900.000vnd, a msrp which the 3080fe release

The 5000 series chips are looking better now as everyone is benchmarking with similar results. I have a 2700x currently so this would be a massive leap for me. Especially as I have my eyes on a 6800XT

Stupid how they didn't allow reviews before launch. By the time we've watched this video all the CPUs will be sold. But since I bought a 3700x last year I probably shouldnt buy a new CPU yet anyway.

The AMD upgrade path is pretty amazing. I got a b450 board with a Ryzen 5 1600 and the same board now supports the 5950x. So 2-3 years down the line when the 5950x is half the price, gonna snatch it up. On a $70 Gigabyte board!
