    How 'bout those single core synthetic scores? I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Demolishing Intel in that department.
    ALSO: I just realized I typed "Gigabyte Z490 Designare," but the board used for 10th Gen testing was the Vision G from the same manufacturer. The 9900KS was tested on a Z390 Designare board. Same kit of RAM used throughout.

      The intel for gaming sure, but you'd be surprised at how much performance zen offers for other things. Like you see intel do well on games right? That is on fresh installs. Zen will smash intel on the average PC. I would argue that its much better than shown here due to being able to handle everything else much better.

    • @JustAGuy85
      @JustAGuy85 Год назад

      There's also more than the price of the CPU. There is the price of the motherboard. During this time, equivalent Intel vs AMD motherboards were $60-$80+ higher for Intel.
      That is why I chose a Ryzen 3600 + Asus ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi for my nephew instead of an Intel 10400 + MSI MAG something something.. and even that MSI board didn't have the same quality as Asus, nor did it have the same amount of USB ports or as robust of a chipset. AND... while my nephew is STILL running his awesome little R5 3600 + B550-F Gaming Wifi, he has the option to slap a 5800x3D in there now whenever his CPU begins holding him back.
      He currently has a 6600XT in it (mind you, I built this around 2 years ago for his birthday (just before Christmas). And he already has some great RAM... Crucial Ballistix DDR4 3600 C16 2x8GB. He can throw two more in, which will put him in dual rank, slap whatever GPU he wants in there and upgrade to a 5800x3D and be ready to rock for another 5 years (with maybe one more GPU upgrade).
      Intel honestly just didn't have anything to match that bang for the buck. Not then and ESPECIALLY not in regard to the future upgrades.
      And after seeing his board and how nice it was, when I built my new PC (upgraded from a couple of PC's I had, one was FX-8350, one was Pentium G4560 which was for a mining rig), I went with the same board as him, except it was the revision II model. Only difference was that his is Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 and mine has Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2. So I have the Asus ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming II + Ryzen 9 5900x + 6700XT + 2x16GB DDR4 3600 C16 dual rank. It's the only dual rank kit in that Ripjaws Series V line up. I've went through all of my timings (well, okay, 65% to MAYBE 70% of the options) and fine tuned the timings. She's a BEAST. I get around 65,000 MB/s (65GB/s) Read/Write/Copy speeds in AIDA64. Everyone else gets 55GB/s. I guess it's a combo of the dual rank and timings. Maybe just the dual rank. I dunno.
      Know what the issue with these builds are? THEY'RE BORING haha. He hasn't had one single issue with any single part or anything that I bought or built for him. That's great, yes, but also... it's boring if you know what I mean. For the first year, I was always like "How's your computer doing?" and he'd always be like "good."
      Aww... no problems at all for me to fix 😞

    The best possible situation we can hope for is that Intel and AMD keep swapping the "crown" back and force with each new release. That controls pricing and compels both to keep innovating. I play games at 3440x1440 and generally upper range settings on a 3900X/2080Ti, so I'm largely GPU bound. These new CPUs wouldn't be a significant upgrade for me, but I'm happy to see AMD continuing to do well.

    • @Bryniactheunwise3221
      @Bryniactheunwise3221 3 года назад +1

      Couldnt agree more, we need competition and intel just needs to get it together and come out with something new. Hoping they stick to the next fall time frame for 10nm. Yeah i know its not the GREAT 7nm that AMD has, but if they can get this type of performance out of 14nm, I'm interested to see what they will do with 10nm and how it will compare to AMDs new 5nm process. We should have many great years ahead of us for choosing fantastic cpus

    • @BasedAstraea
      @BasedAstraea 2 года назад

      Considering recent developments by Intel with massive amounts of bravado and an OG running things again, it seems Intel will come back on top finally. However I believe their crown will be very short lives, as I see Zen 4 absolutely annihilating Intel with a DDR5/AM5/5nm launch. Meanwhile the newest Intel chips years after will STILL be on DDR4 and 14nm, maybe 7nm. Unless Intel adopts DDR5 and AMD's philosophy, there won't be much crown switching. Maybe Intel can better compete with GPUs. Maybe Nvidia destroys Intel with their ARM x86 CPUs.

    Pretty disappointing that you didn’t compare overclocking potential and thermals between these chips. Especially considering people are watching these videos to pick which one they buy. Why just compare at stock? We already know what each chips boost is locked to at stock.

    • @GregSalazar
      @GregSalazar  3 года назад +2

      Because most users run _at_ stock/PB. Additionally, since every chip is binned differently, overclocking expectations need to be managed. Ryzen traditionally performs better in games with PB/XFR enabled rather than an all-core OC because one or two cores can boost far beyond what an all-core can do. And I'm not about to per-core OC. I did the same with the Intel chips, so relax :-) And I literally said that a dedicated overclocking video was coming, so stay tuned!

    I mostly agree with your conclusion! However I do believe a large swath of gamers are already on a Ryzen platform making this upgrade a no brainer. I also believe the 5800X will drop in price, the 5900X as well. The 5600 and 5700 will definitely be the sweet spot and I'm willing to bet that gaming performance will be equal or close to the benchmarks shown today! The 5600 may even perform better with over clocking! Less cores may give it more thermal head room. The reason i believe this is because as we've seen with the 3300X, thermal head room can give a great OC and a great OC on Ryzen can give amazing in game performance! It only has 4 cores 8 threads, but most games don't use much more than 4 threads.

      Why? Zen 3 isn't really as cool as it was hyped up to. Gains are minimal and there's a substantial increase in power consumption, worse thermals and higher price.

    • @FilipinoWaylon26
      @FilipinoWaylon26 3 года назад +4

      @@MJ-uk6lu what are you talking about? I have literally not heard anyone say anything that the thermals or power consumption going up, if anything it's gone down by a tiny percentage, which isn't much to ride home about, but besides the point. I don't know who told you that lie, but you best recheck that for your self if you somehow believe AMD fucked up those two aspects which has literally been one of their biggest selling points since Zen 1.
      I'm a content creator and a gamer, Zen 3 is showing lots of improvements, so yes, I am definitely excited for it, whether or not I get it is a completely different question.

      @@FilipinoWaylon26 Maximum power consumption in Greg's video was clearly higher and maximum heat out put was also higher. Now maximum power consumption might have been spiky, however in longer test maximum thermals literally show how hot the hottest core will be. It's at over 90C. That's really awful and it's with 120mm single tower cooler. Pathetic.
      If 10-20% improvement is worth 400 dollars to you, then by all means get Zen 3. For gamers that's literally 0% improvement in many cases. How is that remotely worth it?

    Hey Greg, thanks for making this video! In case you want suggestions for another video, could you please test which memories and motherboards would be the best to buy for the 5800x and the 5600x? I got one of each, but I'm kind of puzzled which motherboard and RAMs I should buy. People are telling me that I should go for RAMs that are not faster or slower than 3600-3666Mhz with a CL16 latency.

    Recently bought a 3090. Figured i wouldn't need updates for a while. Then I launched Cyberpunk 2077 and my 7700K started crying... 40-50FPS. Changing graphics does nothing. I check the monitoring tools and see that my poor 4 cores are stuck to 100% usage...
    Just ordered 5800X and X570 mobo. Already got 32GB DDR4. Hopefully, this system will last me at least 3-4 years.

    Hallo and Merry Christmas
    I have a question I can't find any info about online as noone seems to address this...
    I know 2x16gb of dual rank gives you 4 ranks
    I know 4x16gb of single rank give you 4 ranks
    My question is what are the effects when you use 4x16 dual rank sticks? Do you have any gains? Do you actually effect negatively the system? Does the system even use the sticks properly at that point?
    I am using Asus strix x570 E & Ryzen 9 5900X
    The memory is G.SKILL TRIDENTZ NEO 2X16GB DDR4-3600MHz F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC

    got a 10700k for $330 with a $60 dollar game! Also seen them going for as low as $289.99 which is just a killer steal don't get me wrong the new Ryzen chips are amazing and faster in most things but you're not getting an 8 core Zen 3 chip for under $400. I am going to be a little Selfish in requesting a full comparison between the 5600x at $300 vs the 10700k at $300 to $350 I think that is where the battlegrounds for most value is to be had this holiday season.
