How many cores do you need?
Answer:as much as you can afford
As many as are in stock, so that's 8 then
Whatever in stock at this point.
You need at least 6, 8 is the sweet spot
@@monjakey You can also play fine on a CPU with 4 cores but high clock speed.

I've been building gaming pc's for 20+ years and core clocks, memory speed and latency are more of a factor when trying to get the most performance from your gpu. And most modern titles are just starting to take advantage of multi cores as most games has been single core driven for years in fact even a 6/12t in today's standards is more than enough in AAA games.
Mate I just found your channel today and I’ve watched about 30 videos so far. You’re great man. Loving every video so far.

Yeah man, plis do something like this but with a 3060ti, because I believe this is around what many of us are looking for and will actually buy.

I really like your take/approach on some of these common questions we all have as computer enthusiasts. Loving the content and the jokes. Keep up the great work. Forgot to add. I would like to see how these chips perform not by just gaming but how a normal user would use. Which could be 3-4 different programs at the same time like playing music and having a voice chat program up or streaming at the same time and having more than one screen. Which is why I have an 8 core chip.
Yes please for the budget friendly version! I’m looking to get my first gaming pc and am still trying to get my head around everything
I recently acquired the Ryzen 9 5900X for a bargain price of $180, and although I'm not sure about its performance, I must say my computer is incredibly speedy. I paired it with a complimentary 1080ti hybrid graphics card boasting 12GB of VRAM, and now my system effortlessly handles any task. Surprisingly, my total expenditure for the entire PC setup amounted to just $500. :)
Those GPU and PC camera shots are always so nice
haven't watched your videos in a long while but doing research lately on new build I find that your presence has improved so much, your videos are actually fun to watch now . congrats on the growth .
The big difference you're going to see with more cores is frametime consistancy especialy in high action moments.
i want to play apex with highest possible lows and 5600x / 5800x are both in my price range. So I probably should go for the 5800x?
you are the only channel I found that actually tests how performance is when disabling cores just out of curiosity. Very interesting video you deserve a sub

Hitman 3 has a setting to take advantage of having 8 cores and above on CPUs. It is remiss of this video not to mention that, and although we can only speculate if that will come to other games, it is something people should be aware of in choosing a gaming CPU. (edited after 3 likes, I previously stated this was only for Intel, but the game setting makes no such distinction).

Without meaning to sound condescending, if you're actually testing CPU's , in Cyberpunk you should have ray tracing and crowd density completely maxed out and go to a CPU stress point.
Same with Tomb Raider - RT on Ultra increases CPU utilization by around 25%

**For those who want a short summary of this video**
More cores are great for CS:GO, Apex, or any game/softwares that uses the CPU more than the GPU. If you wanted to stream games, the more cores, the better.
Indeed. But for a 5800x get a 360 aio and undervolt it.
Can we get that in English. Lol
Writing from California: Great video and yes, I would like to see a similar topic like this on more mid-tier and budget CPU's. Especially, helpful to those considering a budget laptop and needing to get a baseline of how various budget CPUs perform for basic gaming.
Also amazing that the 5600x performs well at 80% or so utilization on Cyberpunk with 2 cores disabled.
Take care,
Ravi Peiris M.D.
Cyberpunk is running fine on my 3600x with a 3070 at 1440p. I’ve tweaked some of the RT and DLSS settings and have no issues at all with it after the latest updates.
you put a lot of effort into these videos you deserve more subscribers.
Thank you so much for this video. You deserve so much more subscribers mate - great work as always !
Keep being yourself man. You make every video so fun because you are so loose and make jokes etc etc. You are a youtube dream lol. IMO 8-12 cores should be the target. Since consoles have 8 cores and im betting games in 2022 and further will really start hogging CPU and SSD intensive tasks.
Great - it's nice to be myself!
I'm so glad that you finished tomb raider
I never see people giving the Witcher series enough love. It’s great to see it here
I just bought a ryzen 7 5800xt and rtx 3070 vision for a streaming setup
A more scientific and clearer approach would have been binning the clocks to something around 4 Ghz which all CPUs can reach easily. This is because across all the CPUs as the 5900x does boost a bit more than the other two. The 5300x simulation was good though!
i use an i7 9700k 8 core since Oct. 2020, still going very strong
Always here early for pc centric
Absolute hero
Yes I would like a budget version thanks
I love the effort and the insight this video brings because it gives the viewer the come up with their own conclusion on how many cores they actually need for their own gaming/pc situation. However when explaining this type of thing you need to dumb it down as a lot of people dont understand. To just simplify 6 cores is MINIMUM in 2023. 8 core is more ideal and everything over that is luxury. To people wondering if 6 is ideal why not just stop there? is because the more cores and threads you have the better the fps. and no just more better the fps you get better frame pacing, which means you will have less micro stutters in your game the more cores and threads you have.
on screen conclusion would be nice
For Cyberpunk to be properly tested you'd need to go to the Corpo areas where the NPC and vehicle count is much higher. Nice video though. Was interesting to see the result.
Can you make a video talking about/putting together whats going to be the best budget pc for 2021
xbox. series s
Great video thanks. You need to try out Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and run the tests on that. As they optimise the game it will be interesting to see what gains we get. I’d love to see you playing MSFS!
Man what an epic gaming pc if only I could afford any of the parts or case
I’ve got a similar build same case but rtx 3080 tuf and ryzen 9 5900x honestly it’s a beast
@@stickboy8219 how much was it
What's the conclusion then ??? Didn't understand the conclusion ??? It would be better if you give straight answers ..... Like example :- apex legends requires 6 cores , or cyber punk requries 8 cores.
...
I have a 3090 and a 5600X I use mostly for gaming on 1440p and they run very well together. Maybe I upgrade someday to an 5900X but I see no need for it atm.
WHY WOILD YOU BUY A 3090 TO PLAY 1440P lmao I thought I was bad for using a 3080 to play 1080p how is the 5600x though
I think to do a true test you need more programs running in the background. ie a gamer might normally have a media player for MP3s running in the background, or a RUclips talking clip, and also Discord for chat. How does that affect the need for cores?
11:09
Thank you for the details and tests, very useful.
Thanks for watching!
The only time the Ryzen 5000 series would show any differences in gaming is when you run RTX 3080/3090 at 1080p medium/low settings. If you're using a mid-range GPU eg. RTX 3070 or below or using 1440p or above, the CPUs wouldn't do any difference. If you do productivity workloads, get Ryzen 9. If you only game, Ryzen 5. Ryzen 7 is bad for the price.
Idk 5800x is $350 atm kinda hard beat the price of it atm. Aside from goin with intel.
@@zPrideful true just a month ago it went on sale on newegg for 300.

Yes, I'm running a 1660 super with 9600k at the moment. Budget build more or less. I run over 144 fps when I turn settings down lower in warzone /cold war. 1080p 144hz monitor. @@nbowling10trio I might have to wait more 3 to 4 months to build my PC , the prices of components are ridiculous high in my region , the 3060 ti costs like 700 dollars here. I will eventually start building my PC once the prices become normal.

Video comparing the intel i7 10700k vs Ryzen 5 5600X?
I really wish people would get away from just looking at a frame counter and benchmarks and explain the differences and advantages to a better cpu. Like having bigger cache sizes and more consistent frame times, faster load time, and a bunch of everyday use stuff.
I average 96.7 on high in cyberpunk 2077 with a 5600x and a 5700xt evoke oc. Cyberpunk is a hard game to benchmark as its never the same.
You're recent videos have been very informative lately. Liking it! :-)
Earlier 6 cores was the sweet spot but now seems like 8 cores is must.
Not a must. It’s only a must if you have a gpu that requires 8 cores for it to not be bottlenecked

Where can I get a 1660 super they seem to be impossible to find here in Europe great video man
@shockmender plenty to find in Poland and Romania. I find it hard to belief that they are that hard to find (not that I don't trust what you are saying).
why is it more cpu intensive from 1080p to 1440p and 4k i thought the higher the resolution would make the cpu harder to run.?
Higher resolution is more demanding on the gpu which makes the cpu less of a potential bottle neck... basicly the graphicscard is at work and the cpu is chillin
Simulate 4 cores with one of those ryzen at 1080p with rtx 3060 ti please.
yess please make a budget version of it. Likely with 10th gen intel cpus please
Glad I bought the right cpu in the 5600x 👊🏼
Real good choice.
I always wonder what you do with the products that you open
Nice! Can you do this with editing?
Just got the Ryzen 9 5900x on sale the other day, and it has been great so far, OC to 4.5 all core and it did a Multi-Core Cinebench score of 22406 and the other benchmarks great at an avg 47c. 81c was the hottest it got on some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste I had lying around.
What about a core count for gamers who like to watch Netflix on a second monitor while gaming ?
I don't think there's going to be a 4 core Ryzen 5000 series. 6 cores are the new 4 cores.
Could you ever do a single pc build for gaming and streaming ?
11:33 if I’m playing a game at 1080p instead of 1440p, why would I need a better CPU to keep up?
Yeah, I was wondering about that too.
The cpu already handles various processing tasks. In addition to them it needs to prepare for the next frame, so if u put a 3000series card for 1080p gaming with unlocked frame rates, the cpu might not be able to prepare those many frames in limited time.
Say the cpu has to make 5 calculations for every frame of gameplay. At 60fps thats 300 calculations a second. If we lower the resolution the gpu has less work to do resulting high frame rates eg 150fps which would now be 750 calculations a second for the cpu.
The more frames per second your getting the more calculations your cpu has to do each second, 60fps could be 60 calculations per second compared to 120fps would be 120 calculations
Lol. The lower your resolution the more work your cpu has to do not less. 1080P bottlenecks your cpu thus gpu much more than 1440P and 4k. The more pixels you have the more work your GPU has to do. Once you go to higher resolutions your GPU bound. I don’t get why people play at 1080P personally. 1440P looks MASSIVELY better and isn’t even that much harder to run especially if someone is being cpu limited at 1080P. Not to mention you can and have been able to easily get a nice 27-32 inch 1440P 144hz monitor for around 300-350 dollars for a few years now. The lower the resolution you play at the better and faster cpu and single core performance you need. If you’re building a budget system it doesn’t matter regardless. Simple answer is the higher your resolution the more work that gets off loaded to the GPU instead and once your GPU hits 100% usage in games which you want always, then you’re GPU bound and that’s what you want.
How many cores do you need?
Answer: I'll take everything that in stock with its MSRP
Please do a silent black build with the ryzen 5 5600x and 3060ti (no RGB)
I'd love a video with a similar set up but looking at gaming fps while streaming.
I cant decide between the 5900X vs the 5800X3D , right now in canada they are both 469.99$ , I have an ASUS 3060 KO 12GB and 32GB RAM , I game and edit videos mainly... what should I go for... I heard the 5800X3D is the best cpu for gaming rn but also the 5900x has more cores so I am leaning towards that.
Depends what's more important to you, the 5800X3D is the best 5000 series CPU hands down.
i say go with the 5900x to have the benefit of the more cores and threads.
Maybe in the future if you compare something like this is to put the graph on the frame rate and also put the CPU usage percentage
