    So the 3300x was simply a prototype of Zen3 with the IPC of Zen 2 as it's the only processor to have all it's cores on a single ccx. So maybe AMD was testing what would happen if they were to put all cores into 1 ccx?

    • @FeTiProductions
      @FeTiProductions 4 года назад +7

      I'd go as far as to say they were testing the theory from Zen1, but segmented their ideas so that it looks like their momentum will never end. For how good Zen2 is, its easy to see that they handicapped it with that layout. Zen3 layout change wasnt rocket science at all, even the regular consumer that follows tech architecture could hypothesize that this they've done would've made more sense from the get go. AMD could've absolutely destroyed Intel much earlier but they know well what they're doing

    AMD just has the better strategy right now. On top of the superior performance, they have the better customer experience with how much they try to limit socket changes. Intel makes upgrading a pain in the ass because they keep coming out with new sockets.

    • @slange420
      @slange420 4 года назад +3

      Besides, there is absolutely no reason for Intel to make so many socket changes since they have been using the exact same architecture and process node for five years. What truly blows my mind, though, is how AMD is able to fit three architectures onto one socket (for desktops and servers, since Zen 2 laptop CPUs use a different socket from Zen and Zen+ laptop CPUs).

If you want AV1 decoding, PCIe 4.0 in laptops, you have to choose Tiger Lake for now. If you want CUDA and NVENC encoding quality+speed, you have to choose NVIDIA. AMD is not taking some features seriously enough.

      It's not the clock speed that matters, it's the IPC and the architecture. If the leaks are true, AMD has a dramatic IPC advantage over Intel with Zen 3. So Ryzen 5000 is able to provide more performance running on lower clock speeds. We had this same thing some 15 years ago, back in Athlon 64 vs Pentium 4 days - Intel managed to reach 3.8Ghz with their fastest P4, yet it wasn't enough to top the performance of fastest Athlon 64, which ran at 2.8GHz (a whole 1GHz difference).

    AMD should continue to innovate because when Intel coming back they punch really hard. It takes 15 years for AMD to dethrone Intel in gaming and productivity. AMD really got hurt when core 2 duo released in 2005, their CEO then brought AMD to the brink of bankruptcy because that former CEO made AMD swayed away from their original direction. Luckily, Lisa Su came and took over the leadership. She brought AMD back to its fundamentals: making high performance CPU. Lisa Su unifies the company to compete and push the limit toward one ultimate goal. Unlike AMD, right now Intel suffers from power struggle between CEOs. This leadership crisis puts Intel in a difficult time resulting AMD takes over Intel's market step by step.

AMD's gain for dethroning Intel for now is the result of Su's personal ambition. This is a typical Asian CEO. Nvidia has an Asian CEO too, you can see he never stops competing, Nvidia never becomes lazy like Intel when they on the top.

Because for one the prices drop over time and for 2 as soon as you leave the car dealership with your new car it's gonna drop in value with every kilometer/mile you drive abd i doubt that modern cars will be much sought-after in 10 or 15 years at least not in the same fashion as old-timers from the 60s - 80s.
