The Hip Hinge, an essential component of a Deadlift.
This is an essential weight training exercise for pretty much everyone. Unless you have an active fracture, consider adding a deadlift to your exercise routine.
Today I go over the alignment of your back body to master the hip hinge. The key to a successful deadlift is to do the lift from your hips, not your upper back. In order to practice this hip movement, I am using a straight Swiffer to see how my back position looks before adding hand-held weights.
Give this a try, again, not if you have a fracture or if you have pain. Otherwise, start in a small range of motion.
This can be a great strengthener for the back when done with good form, and when progressed slowly from no weight to heavier weight. Other options for your posture check are a golf club, ski pole, walking pole, or broom.\
This video is part of an extensive collection of yoga poses, weight-lifting tutorials, and stretching instructions for you to review before participating in an exercise program. Or maybe you were already shown one of these exercises but can't quite remember exactly what to do.
