    Have you ever been out railfanning near a major yard, or on a local branch line? If so, you most likely have seen one of these oddities of the railroad, a Slug! In this video, we find ourselves on the north end of Norfolk Southern's massive DeButts classification yard in Chattanooga, Tennessee! Along with plenty of action on NS CNO&TP District and CSX W&A Subdivision, we also dive into the logistics of how a "slug" locomotive works!

    Although I encourage you to watch the whole video, If you wish to skip to the explanation of a slug unit, you can skip to 5:24 and it ends around 8:40

    You mentioned empty Auto Racks heading south from Louisville KY to CSX Baldwin yard. Why would empties be headed south instead of the other way around? I think I know …..would like you to confirm. Great videography and commentary. Look forward to more of your videos.

      Sorry, they might be loaded. The info I found online said that it typically was an empty train.

      @@northernohiorailfanningpro8899 The Racks appear to be empty on NS SB tracks. The cars may eventually end up in Baldwin yard in FL and subsequently head north on CSX after being consolidated with Florida empties there at Baldwin yard.

    One question why do the cabless slugs have a horn if there’s no cab to use it?

    • @northernohiorailfanningpro8899
      @northernohiorailfanningpro8899  Год назад

      The horn and bell can be controlled from the RCO pack i talked about in the video, and can also be controlled from the mother unit.
