It is built like a tank and I have no hesitation in recommending Skodas, you get a lot of car for the money and those badge snobs don’t know what they are missing. Great review again!! Just sold one, 2014 Skoda Superb L&K 2.0 TDi 170bhp (remapped to 210bhp) with 172k miles and massively regret the decision to part with it. I was worried that a clutch, dual mass flywheel, injectors or turbo will start packing up soon with that sort of mileage although there were no signs of it whatsoever. Had it from new and apart from servicing items nothing ever gone wrong with it. The sheer space front and back, travel comfort and top spec just made it a dream to drive and own it.
    I honesty can’t find another make that would even begin to compete with the Superb in every category for the same amount of money.
    I’ve already started to look for the same make and model with lower mileage.
    Matt is absolutely right. If you look after them properly, they’ll look after you.

      Honestly good decision. You've had zero problems and those newer VAG cars don't hold up that well past 150k miles. Turbo isn't the problem, the high pressure fuel pump is. At this mileage either it or an injector kills the engine. Good choice

    I recently bought a Skoda Superb, having previously owned an Audi A6, partly as I was fed up with the big Audi bills (that had come way too often) and the Superb seemed more practical. I thought it would be a come down, but far from it. It’s got way more leg room in the back for my teenage sons (who are now 6ft), loads of boot space, it’s really comfy. It drives pretty much as well as the Audi - ok, if I was being picky, it’s a bit less pokey and the handling isn’t quite as sharp, but the difference is marginal, not enough to worry about. It’s been a great buy so far.

    I have a 2012 3.6 Elegance hatchback (bought it 4 years ago) which is a hoot to drive, especially since I recently got it remapped to 280bhp. I don't do a huge mileage in it, and it's a bit thirsty, but I love that it's a bit of a sleeper. The only clue is the quad exhaust pipes. Immensely comfortable and spacious, with all the bells & whistles, and it's great for wafting about, but if you put it in sport and floor it, the acceleration and the engine sound puts a smile on your face. Nothing to touch it for the money.

    The best superb is the 2nd gen but the facelifted version they are pretty rare cause the 3rd gen was introduced shortly after. The build quality is far better compared to the 3rd gen it was the time when VW started to be disgustingly jealous and forced skoda to hold their horses. They have pushed the possibilities of the VW platform way too far so the VW couldn't catch up. The simply clever options and the countless minor comfort features made VW models prices unreasonable. I'm from ex Czechoslovakia we were always limited by someone russians, germans, USA... skodas were crap because they were not allowed to be good remember the first TATRA cars? first aerodynamic design etc... First skoda car the model A was introduced in 1905. 116 years ago and boy they were high end cars until political situations changed everything. anyways skodas are very expensive nowadays the VW trick is the following. If you want a base car it's a hella deal but once you start adding comfort features, you rather visit a merc or bmw dealership you would be surprised what a car you can get for your money. A SUPERB or OCTAVIA for over 40K €??? no way man

My brother is driving the Skoda as his daily driver now and loves it; it's never put a foot wrong and he's not looking to part with it any time soon either. Personally, I need something larger than what I have now, and the Superb is on the short list.

    I’ve had a Fabia and am now on a Rapid, they’ve both been brilliant cars (except for some climatronic issues on the Rapid). They’re not exciting, but just have a dependable, loyal, quality feel to them, and they never seem to get in the way of your life because they’re so practical and reliable. They’re just good at being ‘machines’.

    • @CS-oo6hs
      @CS-oo6hs 2 года назад

      @@christga100 I have to say I’ve not found mine noisy (mine is the TSI), but I agree it’s a totally different car. The Rapid is ruthlessly focussed on practicality, durability and value, which is fine of course, but definitely a bit jarring coming from a more luxurious Fabia. My only major gripe with the Rapid now that I’ve got used to its simpleness is the drivers seat, which is just horrid. In fairness, I think mine took a bit of damage to the bolster with its previous owner, but there’s just no cushioning compared to the lovely seats on the MK2 Fabia, so I’ve had to add cushions of my own. Still proving to be a reliable and fantastically practical car though.

      @@christga100 not the seatbelt clasps in my case, but the adjustment things on the b pillar do like to rattle. I also have the classic front left suspension squeak which has gotten worse recently so it will need looking at. I would say it is quieter than my MK2 Fabia was though, as that also had slightly squeaky suspension and more of a propensity for interior rattles. How do you find the Greentech’s economy? Mine is the non greentech 105 and tends to average about 45mpg, but costs £130 to tax, I believe quite a bit more than the Greentech? I also have the saloon shape model, and I think its the perfect body style. You get the length of a proper saloon, with the big opening of a hatch. My main mistake with mine is going for an early 2013 rather than late 2013, as despite being an Elegance model, it doesn’t have TPMS, and although there are electric windows all round, there is no way to control the rear ones from the front, which is daft.

    Talking about badging, in this video in your first announcement of this car you pronounced it correctly (shkoda) and impressed me. For an English speaking person it is hard to get over that single s in that Skoda name. But then you quickly went back to the old habit (back to skoda and not shkoda). Never the less your videos are not only down to the ground more realistic personal opinion reviews but also full of sarcasm and humor which makes them fun to watch yet sometimes very informative. While others are bogged in the car specs which you can find them on manufacturers sites (or you can go to the dealership in person if you are so specific), you get to the point and tell us what impressed you and what not. Personal impression is more valuable than information on how many inches or mm of ground clearance it has or how many USB ports are in the back row. So keep making your videos and I will keep watching them.

    I had the 2012 118TSi Elegance...bought it new and traded it in last year for a new car. It had 160k miles and the only reason I moved it on was because it was getting long in the tooth and I feared the cost of repairs on a car well past its prime. I loved it to bits. If it had a BMW rondel on the steering wheel you would have believed it - the build quality was outstanding and it felt much posher than it had any right to. Truly, the name-plate got it right. Superb.

That being said wr got it at 95k last year now on 110k, you’d never know it to drive no smoke returns high 30’s on a run and only needed servicing in the 15k we’ve put on. I deliberately found a basic 'S' trim so that I could avoid (a) leather and (b) a touch screen. Six years and 50,000 miles later (Covid has kept the miles very low for the last two years) and I'm still so happy with it. I'm not even thinking about changing, but if I was it would be for another Superb estate, so why bother?! I do prefer the timeless classic look of the mk2 to the later estates too. Ok. Yes they are great cars... but what we've found with our 2010 TDI170 is:
    CANBUS starts to take out components around 120,000miles. We have lost headlight washers, rear boot electric struts, memory seats, memory mirrors, rear wiper, and a a handful of dash lights (possibly not related).
    The intake plumbing was clogged up, being 75% blocked with carbon deposits. The engine inlet valves were blocked too causing damage to the servo. That was a £1500 bill.
