i have fully loaded new Passat and i work for Audi so i drove Audi A4 alot, i also tried Superb and frankly speaking u feel why Audi cost more, materials, and how they are put together, comfort of suspension and sounds from it while driving on worse roads, i just hate those suspension sounds when Passat or Superb has bigger wheels (18"->..)
Should've included the SEAT Leon ST as well. I honestly think the two less premium brands of the V.A.G (SKODA and SEAT) offer a better all round package and dare I say it, better styling.
I bought my 2016 Superb on the strength of this review and interestingly many of the features Matt focused on in the Passat are also present on the superb, like the bag hooks in the boot. the parcel shelf works the same way too and in the MMI you can set it to either open or stay closed when the hatch is lifted. Other thigs I like - the ability to change headlights from LH to RH mode when driving in Europe. The umbrellas in the door cards. It's compatible with Android Auto and Apple Car play anyway so the 'premium' entertainment system of the A4 is less of a draw. The 2x rear heated seats were a big bonus for the kids and the 18" wheels make it look much more premium.
Guys, i bought skoda superb ambition plus package with 6 gear manual gearshifter ( because i like it more then DSG) for 25800 eur :) black colour, full HD touch screen with elwctronic buttons and not manual, 18" wheels, 3 zone airco, seat heaters, no leader seats, henon adaptive lights with led front and rear light also. All these other standard stuff which yoh get with superb. Really, nothing fancy. Just exactly what you need for driving car on all highways arround europe.trust me, its much better then Audi and Passat. Not because i have it but because comparing to price and whst you get superb is the best choice... this is car for comfort traveling and to have a lot of space and good stability on road.adaptive cruise control on this skoda saved my life literaly. Some truck missed streed and was braking hard in front of me. Cruise control system brake my car before i managed to put my feet on brake. Without it half of my car would end below truck...
Driving a Passat with the dials as a screen, I must say, with the the map on, I really love it. It's not too bright at night either, and in the sun, you don't have to worry about not being able to see the screen information. The only annoying thing is that with polarised sunglasses, you have more difficulties reading the screen, but that's the only complaint.
Yes in this trim the Passat is a more clean cut and slightly more modern than the AUDI, which certainly does not fair well in red - and the AUDI will benefit visually from having larger wheels - The Passat somehow does not really need it.
All Audi cars look the same from front. Even BMW has more front variety than Audi, even with the same exclusive grill. If you remove the Audi badge, you just get a worse looking, slightly premium feeling, less practical car over a Passat. Skoda looks and feels cheap tbh. Not like a VW should. Passat is the only buyable car here. Better alternatives to Audi by BMW and MB. Cheaper alternatives to Skoda by Dacia, Suzuki, Peugeot, Hyundai.
I remember my dad owned the 2008 or 9 superb salon and even there the leg room in the back is ridiculously big i was a kid so i could literraly strech my legs during long trips
In europe, the avant starts at 34k Euro and it's the basic model with fwd and a sloppy engine. For 36k you can get the Skoda superb combi laurin&klement, with very premium interior, AND the 2.0 tsi engine, 4x4, dsg transmission and 280 hp! It goes from 0 to 60 in 5 and a bit seconds. That's just a ridiculously amazing value for a premium car that's very capable and very practical. And Skoda seems to also be a very reliable brand.

People don't realise; VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda although part of the same company each have their own design and engineering teams. The cars are much more different than people think. The Audi even has different grab handles to the VW, different carpets, seats, indicator stalks, switches and buttons and it's shown hear how all three have a different approach to how they design the cargo area. It's much more than just a different badge.
Can you compare the A4 to the Superb. I thought the A6 and Superb share the same chassis. And I have to disagree with you on looks. I think the Superb looks far better than the Passat. PS I have a Superb. I took it for the luxury (SE L Executive). I can carry the in-laws, their lapdog, two very large dogs, a dog push chair for the lap dog. We have a tonne of room, it's very comfy for long journeys to the sea side. Curiously, I've never noticed any road or wind noise with my 2.0 DSG Superb (it's a 2018, which is the same mark)
Superb cannot ever be better than the Passat, I mean it is a nice car too, but come on, it will never ever be better than the VW, it just will not be, there needs to be some hieararchy between the models inside the VAG.
@@dusanmihajlovic4732 I think you misunderstand. I was talking about the market. Audi have the A6 and the A4, skoda the Octavia and the Superb, VW have the Passat. So what I am saying is that large exec car market is the A6 and Superb. The large family car is A4, Octavia and Passat. If you compare the interior size of the Superb and Passat, for the cost you'd be a mug to go for the Passat, it's almost the same, the gizmos maybe not the very latest, but it's all the same mechanical parts. To me comparing the Octavia and Passat is a fairer comparison especially if you want to make a brand hierarchy. As a point where do you think Seat sits?
Octavia goes with Golf. Superb goes with Passat. Phaeton has been turned down so cannot find a comparisment to it. It should have been an A8. Now you got Arteon which goes with A5 according to many but in newest model you have a Shooting Brake Arteon. Should I compare it with A4 variant?Just not. Should I compare it with A6 variant, maybe, maybe not. With Superb? No mate. What I want to say is that inside the groupation there is no rivalires between the car makers, and everyone knows their position. There could never be that an engine suplier can be worse that the one who gets their engine or to have a car that is a higher class model than what his engine or parts supplier has. What about Touareg and Kodiaq with 2.0? What about Tiguan and Karoq? What about R models? Also on the other side, cannot compare for example VW's R models with Audi's RS models... What the truth is that every car has its own costumers and it is planned to be like that. Superb is a nice car again, and I wish you many many more miles with it, cheers!
Right. Buy the Passat instead of Superb if you need to pay 15% more money and brag that you can afford it, if you want a little bit less space, if you want the adults feel less comfortable, if you need less luggage, and 5% less noise. Buy the Audi instead of Superb if you need to pay 30% more money and if you don't need to transfer any luggage. If you need the car to be quiet enough so that you run over the people on the road and they don't hear it but you hear the screaming. Buy the Audi if you want to believe that it's still a better brand. Pick the Audi if you want to learn to control it with incomprehensible cylinders like the Microsoft Studio. Pick the Audi or VW if you think that four circles or the letters V,W are more creative and innovative logos than a winged arrow. Buy Passat or Audi if you want the cars to look cheap from the front, including the horizontal grates which look like the metallic plates will bend, instead of the solid BMW-like vertical grates of the Škoda. Buy the Audi or VW instead of Škoda if you think that it must be great for consumers like you that the workers in Germany are getting significantly higher salaries than the Czech Škoda consumers for doing the same work less well.
I just bought a 2014 estate VW Passat executive tdi bmt 2.0litre diesel this week top spec, full leather, heated seats, sat nav, parking sensors etc.... One of the best cars i have ever owned!
I wish you would tell us the actual capacity of the boots in Litres instead of just abstract comparisons between the models. It would be useful to know to the parcel shelf and without.
Bit of a weird development, in the previous generation the superb would have been hands down the most premium feeling of the bunch and still is a very nice place to be for traveling today.
for the Audi price you can equip skoda with xenon, 18 inch rims, leather seats with ventilation, 9 inch infotainment system and 2 liter TSI engine which will have 220hp compared to audi's 1.4 tsi with only 150 hp.
Thanks for the video, great as always. One inquiry, if possible, for future videos, I always see your videos but I don´t take reference about the fuel economy in mpg, could you say also in l/100. Thanks anyway.
Totally unfair comparison... like Plot below said, get Superb in different colour, top trim, 18inch wheels ( From Elegance trim up) and you wouldnt look at VW or Audi. All 3 cars have the nearly identical top spec, only Skoda will save you at least 30%. I've got many years of experience with this cars and they aren't what they used to be back in 90s. PS: Audi, VW and Skoda is now practically the same company after all ;)
Picked a shit spec Superb, i sell them and you need to go for SEL+. Comes standard with Full leather, xenon headlights, led drl's, nav, electric tail gate (like in the Audi) oh and handles in the boot to pop the seats down like the other 2 list goes on. Like i say a shite spec
Tbh i don't like to have a Head2Head between a premium brand and 2 uhhh how do i put it? Standard brand? Anyways, it makes the test feel unfair because of that, even if the Skoda won.
very good comparison, three really good cars, three good options, but i pay more for the a4 due to sofististication, design, and quality. But TFSI better than TDI
There is a petrol version of the Passat. The GTE. Admittedly it's a hybrid but if you do a lot of short journeys and the occasional long one it could make more sense than a diesel.
In 2018, I compared Superb Style and Passat HL R-line, and what annoyed me in Superb was materials and cruise-control lever. After driving thousands of kilometers in Superb, I totally hated front seats. After even hundred km behind the wheel I felt really tired and so did person sitting next to me. Back seats might be better designed, I do not know. Overall Skoda's interior feels purposely cheaper than VW, and that's where Skoda lost me. Exterior of Superb is actually very nice, but R-Line does the trick with Passat, so I choose Passat. So far, I like Passat's handling, comfort and specially the economy of newest diesel engine. I have not tried Audi, but I guess it is slightly different class.
Did your car have the 4-way lumbar support or full power adjustments? The leather/suede power seats in my mom's Superb are fantastic, easily the most comfortable car seats i've ever sat in.
Would get the passat, the interior and exterior are better designed than the skoda, these kind of cars are more for people who look for value so for i would not consider the A4 as its better looking as a saloon.

#TeamSuperb. Cough 280bhp version

280 for the top engine.. What a joke ;p dont waste your money and get an audi where the top engine gets you more than 500 bhp ;)

If the first comment said the 280bhp version which is the VRS
The 500bhp I'd obviously going to be the RS4.
Ahmed Tha King how can you even compare a Audi rs4 with a Skoda superb. There is a 60000£ difference! It’s like comparing a Ferrari to a Dacia. Such an irrelevant comment.
Hey VW bring skoda to the USA!
There's a noodle hanging off Matt's nose at 1:00 :D Did anyone else notice?
tadaaaaa
Laughed way too much at this. Back to first grade. ( :D XD )
i was a bit surprised too :D .. dont mind me im just wobbeling here

Jan Kubec Didn’t see it
Loving the wagons! Passat for me.
With a couple of small kids, the additional space of the Passat or Superb is more important than the prestige/luxury of the Audi. But if you have the money and don't need the space, the Audi will put a smile on your face if you see it waiting in the parking lot. The other two are very good at taking you from A to B, but lack the fun factor.
You mean snob factor?
I think that skoda superb in better gear is from outside nicer that vw Passat. Let's google skoda superb in laurin and klement or in sportline with 206 kw engine.
Nero CZ, let’s google the VW Passat in Arctic white, with the R-line package as well!

That's because they share the same platform, interior (including the engines).
I Really Love The VW Passat. And I love its design the most!
The Superb with the large alloys and the sportline option definitely will look posher
i have fully loaded new Passat and i work for Audi so i drove Audi A4 alot, i also tried Superb and frankly speaking u feel why Audi cost more, materials, and how they are put together, comfort of suspension and sounds from it while driving on worse roads, i just hate those suspension sounds when Passat or Superb has bigger wheels (18"->..)

Your comparing a base model Skoda Superb with the others ....bring in the L&K and it's a whole new game !
Should've included the SEAT Leon ST as well. I honestly think the two less premium brands of the V.A.G (SKODA and SEAT) offer a better all round package and dare I say it, better styling.
Something Sumting leon st is not in the same class, its a rival for the golf or an a3
@@kevintjeuh8888 yeah but also superb is not a4 and passat (B) chassis, it’s A6 chassis
why people hate audi so much, it's simply awesome, if you want to carry on a ton of things get a fuckin van, a4 avant is perfect for a family...
what is wrong with engine choices in the uk? There are a lot more petrol engines than diesel engines available for the Passat here in Germany.
Felix O. - VEOTech Yea it is a bit ironic considering that VW are spending most on petrol engines these days.
I reckon we'll see a petrol version in the UK sooner or later.
Felix O. - VEOTech They would get more choices if they would drive on the other side of the road.
We have more petrol (2 or 3) than diesel (only 1) Passat models in Australia as well. And we are right hand drive like the UK.
@@murraysampson2501 but you're upside down! so it balances out
I bought my 2016 Superb on the strength of this review and interestingly many of the features Matt focused on in the Passat are also present on the superb, like the bag hooks in the boot. the parcel shelf works the same way too and in the MMI you can set it to either open or stay closed when the hatch is lifted.
I'd have the Passat. It looks mature. I prefer an estate car to look a bit boring
Without it half of my car would end below truck...
what a good review!!
keep doing it!
thanks Mat
Biased mat saying the most expensive car is the best? Well I never.
Tell him the skoda is £100k and it would win this test no problem.
The Skoda seems to be the best choice,it's a mix of the other two but cheaper.
I think the Passat looks the best
I have one with the R line package and I think it's stunning.
Flaviu Daniel Audi looks far more better, then comes Passat and then the Skoda
audi for the looks passat and skoda for the practicality and insignia sports tourer if u want both :P
I love my Passat sportscombi
i bought the 2016 passat 4 matic with 190 ps getting it next week can’t wait
The Passat is not diesel only. You can get it with a 1.4 and 2.0 liter TSI petrol engine.
Depends on the market, really.
0:48 _"VW has done an alright job to make sure this big-ol' box doesn't look totally mind-numbingly dull"_

1:54 _"VW has done an alright job to make sure this big-ol' box doesn't look totally mind-numbingly dull"_
OK, now I get it. Thank you! :D
*Superb is Superb*
And audi is audi and vw is vw..
Skoda is the cheapest car from vag group...
Again, 336BHP Skoda Superbs beating you at the traffic lights.
All great cars but the Skoda doesnt have the finish that the Passat does
Am I the only one who likes the look of the superb over the passat?
yes, u are the only one
Nope your not the only one

Idk man. Toyota Camry hybrid is pretty good
Surely the Skoda Octavia and Golf estate are more suited rivals to the A4 space wise?
Ruben Jennings that is correct
eeexactly
but not price wise.
No No. The C class estate and 3 series touring are more suited.
Mr Smith I mean within the VW AG
Just get the Skoda Superb 280 estate. 0-60 in 5.3 secs, and 260km/h top speed. Perfect.
Should you not be comparing the A6 Avant instead of the A4?
Yea no, that car is ridiculous expensive compared to the two other
I agree. The chassis size is completely wrong for a comparison
These were the best types of reviews, need more like this again!
Finally comparsion of Skoda!!
PS: Audi, VW and Skoda is now practically the same company after all ;)
Toyota saves you even more money 😉
Great review... for me i just want a Skoda Superb Scout 🔝🔝🔝
Just go for the Skoda in the Sportline version........no brainer
Go for the VW because it is the best compromise between function and form.
Hey Matt can we get a comparison video between new BMW 3 series, Mercedes C class 2019, Audi A4 and the VW Passat?
Picked a shit spec Superb, i sell them and you need to go for SEL+. Comes standard with Full leather, xenon headlights, led drl's, nav, electric tail gate (like in the Audi) oh and handles in the boot to pop the seats down like the other 2 list goes on. Like i say a shite spec
JT Williams got to make the Audi look good
I think they were really pushing the value for money card with this spec Superb.
JT Williams 7
the audi had nothing in it aswell... all the cars were pretty much stock
They can still pull the value for money card if they raise the value up a bit further with a decent spec.
Did you sit in Laurin & Klement version of Skoda Superb? Is quite nice inside
Tbh i don't like to have a Head2Head between a premium brand and 2 uhhh how do i put it? Standard brand? Anyways, it makes the test feel unfair because of that, even if the Skoda won.
The dripping snot at 6:02 is epic! :D
Would Skoda still be the best if it cost the same as Passat? They are priced exactly the same in Finland.
sdhfpiuswrh who the fuck cares, your money goes to vw anyways, wether you buy skoda, audi, seat or vw
Yes
If you get some of the 4x4 280 or 336 Bhp variants (in that dragonskin yellow paint) its more worth it.
yep.
"Skoda is the least appealing..." what?I mean...It's subjective, but I believe it looks the LEAST bland of the three!Great video by the way!
very good comparison, three really good cars, three good options, but i pay more for the a4 due to sofististication, design, and quality.
LOVE the check engine light is "lit" on the Audi!
How oblivious are people nowadays? That's because the ignition is on but the engine is off.
Would get the passat, the interior and exterior are better designed than the skoda, these kind of cars are more for people who look for value so for i would not consider the A4 as its better looking as a saloon.
When you said buying cars on PCP I was slightly confused
Audi and VW have the same dashboard features (screen)
fuck no, not even close, or you're blind
You can already get virtual cockpit with superb too
