We ran our a B&B as a "cheap n cheerful" but all we got were people that wanted the cheapest but expected the earth. One year we closed, took a leap of faith and invested a ton of money (knocked walls down, rebuilt every en-suite, went from 8 rooms to 4 ... etc) and raised our prices. It was the best move we ever made.
Self made success and honestly told. Keep doing what you’re doing, an awful lot of people appreciate how you go about your business both as a car dealer and the online content. Good luck to you.
Matt don't feel you're probably boring us because you are absolutely not. It takes balls to be a real truthful inspiring person brother. Well done matt I hope one day I can buy a car from
Very honest car dealer. I would definitely buy a vehicle off him knowing full well that he is a genuine guy and someone that can be trusted. Well done on building your business up Matt !
Personally you come across as a well spoken and calm individual. Folks only notice when you drive a nice motor, ignore the haters, More power and success to you…..
Fascinating story. I cannot think of any other RUclipsrs that could keep my attention when all they're doing is driving around for 15 minutes and nattering on about themselves.
Great video Matt. Honest, no nonsense story. You had the balls to take on a load of debt on loans and credit cards, start from the bottom, work 7 days a week and handle all the stress that comes with it, and its paid off. You are 100% a self made man, and deserve every success. From stumbling on your channel about 6 months ago, your honest reviews, cheeky one liners and well put together videos makes this channel my absolute favourite you tube channel.

@@jamesk1806 Hi James - funny you should say that, I took a look at it online last night. Was impressed by Matt's review of the XJ a while back. I would go for it (price is well worth it) but I think the mileage is a little too high, as I'd need to keep it a while

Love watching the channel mate, and its so nice to hear your story of pure graft and I commend you on that. Please keep doing what you do, we all certainly enjoy the content.

I really enjoyed listening to your honest story, it resonates basically everything I am experiencing with my antiques business: starting at the bottom, struggling to survive and doing other jobs to maintain the business (I still have a full time job at NHSPS just to pay the bills!), gaining knowledge, raising the quality of stock, attracting customers with better wallet, exploring continent and most of all - keep going despite all the obstacles on the road. That part about dealing with consequences of buying cheap car made me laugh - yesterday I paid more than £700 for the job on a cheap van I bought a while ago - I still had it on warranty, but I thought: I ain't calling them, van was cheep and I knew what I am signing up for, I will deal with it myself - towing it for 80 miles and taking train at least twice seemed too much of a hassle, so l did it locally out of my own pocket, the van now has to work hard to make us square :-) Best of luck in the future!

Really enjoyed listening to your story mate. Very similar to my situation selling plant machinery and tools. The odd motor too. It's a slog. People think you're having it off working for yourself. The reality is you don't ever switch off and you're constantly looking to make the next pound note one way or another. Perseverance is key. Loving the channel. Surprised you've not been tapped up to be involved with a car show as your demeanor is relatable and very engaging.
Nice to see someone so young with a great attitude and philosophy. There's some that think the world owes them a living. Keep up the great content even the advert was very good.
Genuinely enjoyed that story Matt. I identified with a lot of what you went through. I decided to leave a near 10 year career in the emergency services 3 years ago. It was a toss up between starting a used car or cleaning business. I went with cleaning because I’m better at that than selling stuff. I started from scratch with almost no cash behind me. 3 years later it’s gone from strength to strength but I’ve had a fair amount of crappy comments made from family and friends who just assume it all just falls into place. It took a lot of hard work, long hours, taking on some not so nice jobs and tolerating imbecile customers. But with that drive and ambition you get there eventually. I love being my own boss. There’s no prouder feeling 👌🏼 I’m going to be looking to replace my current car soon so I might give you a shout! 😂
Thanks for watching! You're right, its a long road and not many people understand the amount of work and stress it takes to work for yourself. Good luck with your business
This popped up 3 years after it was made. As a (now) regular viewer, it was an intriguing back-story to your videos I often watch. Many thanks. NOW I know how you became so good at ... fitting number plates. 😊 Great you moved upmarket. Writing this in 2024, it will be interesting to see what your business looks like. Second-hand EVs will be a thing by then, even up there so who knows what we have to look forward to. Thanks again for taking us on your ever-interesting journey.
As a business owner myself, I've found a lot of people tend to want your success to be based around a handout, an inheritance or rich parents because the alternative it's actual hard work. When they look at you and just think 'well, it was easy for them because [insert excuse]' what they are doing is excusing themselves for not even trying. They want what you have, they just don't want to put the work in. They don't want to experience failure. They don't want to risk anything. You've earned it mate. Be proud of it, as I'm sure you are. You'll keep getting more and more success because you work hard. Work hard and educate yourself. There really isn't a magic system, or something wonderful you need to invent. Just work hard and don't quit. Great videos, keep it up.
Seriously, well done Matt. You’ve really earned what’s yours and you seem to have a good head on your shoulders, look forward to seeing you on Corrie one day, if I start watching soaps . Top lad
Brilliant , very interesting insight in your life. Never give up on your dreams, persistent pays , plus time passes by way too quickly. It’s tough being on your own and cash flow is key , but to start with it’s a juggling act. Respect to you for starting up and keep going. Your channel is refreshingly honest and enjoyable, Keep up the good work
Hats off to you! We went a different route, renovating houses on top of full time jobs, but we get the same, everyone assumes it's daddy's money. Keep doing what you do, and don't ever feel you need to justify yourself. Particularly not to the internet's array of keyboard warriors 😉
Well done, Matt. Good to see how it all began and an inspiring story it is too - hard work still gets you places in this world. Keep going and keep doing what you are doing, it's genuinely interesting!
Just watched this one, as it popped up in recommended. Watched a bucketful of your other uploads (and loved 'em) and never saw this one. I get the cheap, and cheap customers. Same in hospitality. A room sold at £170 doesn't get a complaint, but sell it including dinner and bubbles for £99 in January, and boy do the gripes come. Great to hear your story and your success is deserved. Easy to see it's from graft and just cracking on.
Thanks for sharing your story so far Matt... very interesting to listen to and well done for getting to where you are by grafting. It's hard work I know but also very satisfying at the same time. I always thought from the sub 20K Subs you had that natural, at ease On camera presence ... now I know. Also... well done on the sponsor ... onwards & upwards. ATB
Thanks! I didnt know what kind of reaction this video would have. I thought some might think I was rambling away aimlessly so glad its gone down well. Take care
After making the absurd decision that I am going to actively work towards making my dream of owning a discovery 3 or 4 a reality, I stumbled across your channel. I have been watching a few of your videos of late and this one has just got you another subscriber. your honesty about how you got to where you are now and the proof that just sometimes the grind pays off is great to see and rare in this day and age, everyone just seems to want success now and for free. Good luck for the future.
you have a had a pretty interesting life! im sure the people who think that this has all been handed to you on a platter are the same sort of people who bought the 500 quid cars lol
I love learning about journeys, peoples journeys in life, whether it’s a rock band or business person. There’s always one outcome, they usually had to fight with grit and determination to get where they are. Great story and keep up the good work - you do what you do very well.
As a former mechanic and entrepreneur myself, I really connected with this video of you telling your story. I first found you when I was watched a couple of your reviews (X5 and R 320). I found their content to be practical, informative and actually entertaining. Your manner is more authentic and refined than the hacks that I see reviewing used cars and pitching various wares online. You have a lot to be grateful for, finding a business that mixes your acting skills with your passion for cars, bravo! I will recommend your videos to friends and family members looking for cars. I would even recommend them to travel to the UK to buy used cars from you, but after viewing the videos it appears that all of your cars have the steering wheel on the wrong side! Where I live, in California and Prague CZ, our cars have the wheel on the correct side! 😀
I love matts sense of humor and jokes honestly i crack up, i love the honesty and u did work hard never handed nothing on a plate ! respect at the most high
Feel your pain buddy was an extra on TV for year's before I was buying and selling car's, ended up doing 5 days on Disney's Aladdin a few years ago in a featured part on one of the days filming, film came out, all my scenes cut out lol, long story short back to trading, but out of that now
Best video I’ve watched on RUclips. I worked my way up from a 2 up. 2 down terraced house to a 4star Hotel in a premium welsh seaside town. It took years of extremely hard and determined work to reach my goal, but the results were truly worthwhile. All power to you. I know how difficult and stressful it is. As long as you keep the videos coming, I’ll be watching them.
Another good video and very enlightening.I am sure your apparent interest in acting is reflected in the excellent quality of your videos. They are honest and humourus and with my interest in the motor trade I really enjoy watching them.
We have more in common than I thought. A love of cars, disappointment at never having made out with Penelope Cruz and a desire, at one point, to be an airline pilot. Still wouldn't drive a Range Rover, though.
Ha, this is getting funnier and funnier :D So much in common! I spent a good chunk of my youth in Spain, I used to buy packs of sweets as a kid and then sell the single pieces on the schoolyard. And I always liked acting and took the acting classes our school offered. A lesson I learned, though: no matter how hard you work, things can always go wrong. Doesn't matter the amount of blood, sweat and tears... if the universe decides it wants to see you fall, you're gonna fall. I've seen people work their butts off, friends and family, just to stand in front of ruins some time later, not because they did something wrong, but just because of bad luck. That's why I don't judge people for the position they're in... I know the reasons can be manifold and often out of people's control! That said, I wish you luck :D
I'm from the High Peak, Chinley, so a lot of my enjoyment of these videos comes from looking out of the window 🙂 I'm exiled overseas now, but if I move back to England, I'll head over to Romiley.
I just got here, a little late, but amazing life story! Congratulations and thank you for sharing it and the whole knowledge! I've been learning so much with you! Wish you the best!

Thanks 👍 You're absolutely right. Why work for somebody 9-5 monday-friday when you can work for yourself 24/7 365 haha
Nice to see someone so young with a great attitude and philosophy. There's some that think the world owes them a living. Keep up the great content even the advert was very good.
Thanks! I appreciate it
Genuinely enjoyed that story Matt.
Big respect 4 the story and congrats on your success! Well done & more power to you! Well deserved 💪
Thank you 🙌
And big respect to you too 👌👌👌👌
This popped up 3 years after it was made.
Thats quite right! Couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching
Seriously, well done Matt. You’ve really earned what’s yours and you seem to have a good head on your shoulders, look forward to seeing you on Corrie one day, if I start watching soaps . Top lad
Forget Corrie we want to see him in Hollywood!
Brilliant , very interesting insight in your life. Never give up on your dreams, persistent pays , plus time passes by way too quickly. It’s tough being on your own and cash flow is key , but to start with it’s a juggling act. Respect to you for starting up and keep going. Your channel is refreshingly honest and enjoyable, Keep up the good work
Thanks! I appreciate it. Cheers
Hats off to you!
We went a different route, renovating houses on top of full time jobs, but we get the same, everyone assumes it's daddy's money.
Keep doing what you do, and don't ever feel you need to justify yourself. Particularly not to the internet's array of keyboard warriors 😉
Thats quite right. Good luck with your projects
Hope you hit the 1m subscribers mark, don't ever change once your channel takes off, I truly enjoy the simplicity and directness of your presentations
Thanks for sharing your story with its early struggles.Your resilience is inspiring ...
Well done, Matt. Good to see how it all began and an inspiring story it is too - hard work still gets you places in this world. Keep going and keep doing what you are doing, it's genuinely interesting!
Thank you
Matt, Great to hear your story. I admire anyone that is self employed. The risk you carry with you everyday is rarely rewarded.
Inspiring and this explains a lot, your oratory, and language fluency
Thanks :)
Fascinating and entertaining story. Congratulations on all the well deserved success that came on the back of hard work.
Your a good Guy !
I’m in Buisness it’s basically like a baby you’ve got to look after it and it takes a while to build up before you can walk. 😎
Exactly!
Take care
High Peak Autos ... not at all mate. It was coherent, had good flow and was on point 👍🏼
Your just a nice bloke. I never thought you had an easy time of it (inhritence etc.) just a nice chap. I'd certainly buy a second hand car off you.
I love your honesty and wit/ sarcasm , hard work never hurt anyone , well done mate and keep the faith .
Thank you
After making the absurd decision that I am going to actively work towards making my dream of owning a discovery 3 or 4 a reality, I stumbled across your channel. I have been watching a few of your videos of late and this one has just got you another subscriber. your honesty about how you got to where you are now and the proof that just sometimes the grind pays off is great to see and rare in this day and age, everyone just seems to want success now and for free. Good luck for the future.
You just destroyed Gillette in 30 seconds
@Paulie Gualtieri aint that the truth
@Paulie Gualtieri that Gillette ad was a disgrace
Paulie Gualtieri I can’t remember that advert do you still thinks it’s on RUclips?
@Paulie Gualtieri Totally agree, Paulie. That's why i use Wilkinson now.
@Ian TB : It's a shame that Harry's founders decided to take their business to Germany.
you have a had a pretty interesting life! im sure the people who think that this has all been handed to you on a platter are the same sort of people who bought the 500 quid cars lol
Haha thats quite right
@@HighPeakAutos Im coming back for ya windas!
Nice one on the sponsor Matt 👍
Thanks 👍
Came across your channel, and credit where credit's due - I like it. You have a great attitude and a very calming tone. Great work, keep it up!
Thank you
I love learning about journeys, peoples journeys in life, whether it’s a rock band or business person. There’s always one outcome, they usually had to fight with grit and determination to get where they are. Great story and keep up the good work - you do what you do very well.
Thanks!
Really appreciate the honesty, was a fascinating story. Keep up the good work!
No, ours is on the right side, yours is on the left, lol.
Mate, this was such a brilliant insight into your business etc. Loved it
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@HighPeakAutos keep up the great content in your posh range rover innit
I love matts sense of humor and jokes honestly i crack up, i love the honesty and u did work hard never handed nothing on a plate ! respect at the most high
Cheers!
I know this video is old, but I found your channel recently and been bit additced to it. You're very knowledgable and deserve everything you have!
Wow thank you. All the best
I sometimes watch Harry's Garage, didn't know he did shaving kit as well.
if Harry's Garage did razors, they'd be the fastest razors in the world.
And his factory would be in the south of France
Hahaha
😂
Matt is definitely better at this than Mr Metcalf.
@@jsfaulds what exactly do you think about harry's razors? Do tell us - come on now, don't hold back!
Love this guy very smart and on the ball great podcasts
Feel your pain buddy was an extra on TV for year's before I was buying and selling car's, ended up doing 5 days on Disney's Aladdin a few years ago in a featured part on one of the days filming, film came out, all my scenes cut out lol, long story short back to trading, but out of that now
The honesty of this video is humbling. As an introduction to real life, making your way I don't think I've seen better.
Mark Persad thank you! I appreciate the feedback
Thanks for the honest, no-nonsense career analysis. One of the most interesting vids I've watched lately.
I appreciate that!
let’s just have stories about you and acting, they’re really interesting
Haha I'll have to try and remember some more. There are some pretty horrendous auditions I'll have to try and tell
@@HighPeakAutos yeh that would be a good video
Wow, never saw the acting story! We want more of those stories along with the cars, very interesting.
Thanks. I'll have a think about that
Thought there was more to you than just a car dealer , interesting 👍
This is one of the most realistic and interesting life story Ive heard. Definition of what hustle means. Really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching! Glad to hear you’ve done well. Cheers. Matt
Now, that was bloody interesting !
Mate, I could hear you talk all day :)
Quite an interesting bloke. Little bit more to him than 'second hand car salesman'.
You don't have to justify yourself. Your a very nice chap to watch regardless, you worked hard and deserve the fruits of your labour.
"My mother isn't Theo Paphitis" 😂😂👌
maybe Theos ex-wife though ;-)
Ha, this is getting funnier and funnier :D
So much in common!
