I've had two of those - each ran 250.000 km with minimal trouble. Now I have a 2016 Superb which has done 410.000 km with minimal trouble. Each have had to be towed once, one for a faulty battery, one for a seized water pump and one for a shredded alternator belt. All 2.0 diesel (170, 170 and 190 Hp) with DSG6.
I would say the dent by the filler flap was done by the rear corner of a small flatbed truck or trailer whilst turning. I have a similar shaped dent on an offside rear door of a Mondeo which was done whilst parked on the roadside.

I had the 1.6 and upgraded to a 2 litre. Much smoother and better engine. The 1.6 had all sorts of EGR and particulate filter issues. The 2 litre has now done 363k km with heavy trailer pulling and lots of abuse and still does not use any oil between oil changes which it gets every 30k/2years! The 1.6 used a lot of oil during winter. Would never recomend the 1.6 on such a heavy car. Also the 5 speed is actually geared suuper heavy. At redline in 5th gear this car would do 270km/h if it had the power to pull itself to redline. Load it up with people and you have the must gutless car in traffic.
I had both DMF and DPF changed on a company Octavia 1.6tdi of that vintage. Dealer even dented the rear bumper for free when they did the dpf,and forgot to reconnect the anti roll bar! Suspect both issues due to towing caravan with it.
It looks like it is borderline being an auction car, by the time you tot all the pounds required to make it retail worthy, where at the end of the day it is still a high ish mileage big car with a small engine and mediocre spec. Hi Matt, just subscribed, great channel. My fiance has a 2013 Fabia estate with the 1.6 tdi engine and regularly gets mpg in the 60's on motorway and A roads. This engine has water pump problems, losing coolant and regularly having to be topped up, even with an improved pump being fitted, so be aware of this. Another thing to be wary of, is some Fabia's (ours included) and some other Skodas have problems around the number plate light where it begins to rust and spreads.
Looks cool, always really enjoy you going around the car detective style, with the virtual magnifying glass, especially inspection of the tire situation. Perhaps for HubNut? I really hopes he gets a solid, dependable family lugger soon. His car buying experience is like an amusement park ride, I gather. Thank you very much for the fun video👍 Eager to learn more about your Superb resurrection Matt.
Size of the Superb estate boot they could have been transporting a pony ! For me I'd get it valeted - locate a parcel shelf and use as it is - but I am thinking use not retail - I can live with scratches and minor dents but I know people paying £4-5k for a 100k + mile car expect mint for some reason
I admired the Skoda while in Europe because of the economy of use and wondered why there’s nothing comparable in the states for whatever reason clean diesels have been black listed.
VW won't sell Skoda in the states because it will kill the actual VW brand over there... Pity really..... They would make billions in sales on Skoda models...
We have a 110k Octavia Scout 4x4 which has been great. It's a tough car that's ideal for bad rural roads. Bulbs do seem to go on it and the high level brake LED has blown. One fuse gets kind of oxidised every now and then which can throw a lot of lights out but it's an easy fix with a bit of sandpaper. Spare wheel cover is weak and has caved in and the central air vent has gone exactly like your one.
I had the 170bhp diesel with dsg in a hatch, always fascinated by the way the boot could split into a boot or a actual hatch..Very clever. Faultless car, backseat legroom was on par with a limo, and the umbrella in the rear doors which you got for Czech diplomats , fascinating car..👍
Gearbox was brilliant, had no issues with the car at all, ok it was not the fastest car, but for normal driving and trips across Europe it had plenty of room in the rear for leg space. I had no issues at all with it, or 2 other previous Skoda's. Although both of them was manual gearboxes. I had the Superb for a couple of years.
been looking for a good estate car for my fishing, never thought of a skoda, this looks perfect for the job. thanks will definatly be looking for one of these cars
If you credit in the advert fees then there is a profit surely. Not that I know what they will be. Great theme and format so professional as usual making other car videos sound repetitive and often garbled. Keep going Matt and keep changing things around. Brilliantly suspenseful
Great video. Fascinating run through, from a professional perspective of all of the potential issues and areas of concern that come from buying in something like this. I would be happy to have that car for that price. Clean it, fix the mechanicals, leave the bodywork, then run it for 3 years for less than the price of a months fuel for a Range Rover Evoke 2.0 diesel....
Hi mate i love ur videos and yes i enjoyed that previous video of the skoda superb. Its definitely a car i might consider soon. I currently drive a skoda rapid as a taxi which ive had for 5 years and i love it. Skodas are definitely a brilliant cheap and reliable car to have 👍🏼😁
From a resell point of view why not instead of a side repaint job, try first to find a compound that fills in scratches and there are plenty about in Halfords. Valet YES a must have on any car that has been used for Dogging, as no telling what dried fluids may have occurred over its years of use. Engine sounds good - yeah resell value I'd put around £5K.
I have a feeling this could be a bit of a "pig in lipstick". Missing trim, alarm deactivated ?? bodywork which looks like it's had more hits than Cliff Richard and the latest service invoice to Mr Steve 🤣 One that could be constantly returning for repairs.
Apologies if mentioned by anyone previously - The 1.6 TDI engine fitted to Skoda cars around this time were fitted with Siemens Bosch injectors which were prone to failure around the 10 year mark. Replacement parts are hellish expensive as my son found out when he had to change the injectors on his Octavia (2012) with the same engine. Including labour, the 4 injectors set him back just over £2,000 !!
At least they left the torch/boot light. When I looked at our car pre purchase (Skoda Superb late mk2 estate) I took some photos and in the boot the light was clearly visible, but on collection it was missing. I provided the evidence to the retailer and they supplied a new one... won't be changing anytime soon as just cleared the pcp... this is one of Skodas finest, even prefer the shape over the mk3.
I have a petrol skoda Octavia estate of the same year, they are well built cars and I found them to be very reliable,I've had two. This one looks like it's been treated badly by previous owners. I would like to think this one when repaired and sold to a normal person, will last a few years yet.
So long as you don't mind it being tied up for a couple of weeks in prep, it'll definitely make a car. Looks £4795 on a tidy forecourt to me, which leaves a reasonable return for your outlay!
Absolutely spot on - in fact in the current inflated market conditions it's a 4995 car fully cleaned up on the forecourt allowing for a bit of over allowance on a P/x. These Superb estates are good news and not exactly common either.
I've seen used car dealers who only basically sell top condition cars which are mechanically and visually nearly perfect. Then I've seen dealers who specialise in bangers. Both have made great money. I've not seen a successful dealer who does both. There seems to be a specific skill set associated with each model. The former knows how to source good cars that don't need much work, and the latter knows how to source cars that are nearly worthless and make them roadworthy at a low cost (good mechanic).
I wish you luck with this one; it seems like a bit of a dog, though. I would leave the scratches alone, replace the badge and the broken interior trim, inside/outside valet, get the MOT, cross fingers and hope to make £750 on it.
Colour is called Cappuccino Beige, I've got a 2010 Elegance saloon with the twindoor tailgate. OEM badges are horrendously expensive at £60 a pop but you can get the newer style badges for £25 each from Lithuania via eBay.
I seriously wouldn't throw any money at significant paintwork. That dent around the filler cap might come out with a dent Dr but at the age and mileage will you ever recoup your costs. They are bullet proof to an extent but probably needs a cam belt/water pump unless you have records to prove it has been done (120k change interval). Good Luck and Happy Christmas - thanks for a cracking year of content Matt
Another interesting woodland find! Should think it will be the bodwork on this one that could be the issue that dent by the filler cap might be tricky to get out. If its to be priced at circa 5K think you will need to sort the niggly bits of trim too but should be plenty of second hand spares around. A good valet will make the car look so much better
Just bought a 2013 Superb 1.6 diesel SE+ Hatchback in the same colour, Cappuccino Beige, with 58,600 miles and electric memory seats and Amundsen+ head unit with Sat Nav to replace my old 2007 Octavia L+K Hatchback and they're beautiful cars with bags of room in them
I'm in the final year of a BMW lease and considering scaling down for a few years until electric cars become better/more affordable. With a dog and two children at university, a Superb looks like a decent option.
They are decent. But don't expect much from a refinement (road noise and mainly) standpoint especially the ones with larger, lower profile tyres. I know my 2016 superb sportline with 19inchers could be better. Single pane glass and bare doors also mean external noise insulation is so so. Otherwise, they are brilliant.
It's very noble of you to try and keep this bucket on the road - it's so unloved and tatty. I guess if there's still a profit in it for you, knock yourself out. Thanks for sharing and have a very Merry Christmas, Matt.
I have to comment on your location of your cars like it’s a mystery of who parks them there for you to find then you go over the car and without fail there’s always rubbish left in them!
My wife’s superb. 2012 Superb Estate the one with 4WD and all options, the engine is just run in at 230,000KM, will keep it till it hits 500K or needs a serious repair. It still drives great, very quiet and comfortable.
I like it. The space, the spec maybe not the colour so much though. Cheers for the videos and content this year Matt. Merry Christmas everyone.

This is one of the lower spec Superbs. Only option I see there is probably the leather/alcantara seats. No xenons, no memory electric seat, no auto dim mirrors, etc. They should at least go with the xenons which also have AFS. Mine also has webasto auxilary heater which is incredible in the winter.
I recently bought a 2012 Superb estate 1.6 tdi "Greenline" Executive with 93k miles. Fairly minty condition except for a minor dent and a tiny spot of rust. Before the Superb I had a 2017 Passat 2.0 R-Line bi-Turbo executive with only 4k miles. Call me insane but I like the superb better.
very informative video. I suppose it depends on what you buy these things for. Estate cars are essentially load luggers and as long as you don't want to get anywhere in a hurry a 1.6L diesel will do the job. | have had 5 VW group cars over the years, A Mk2 GTI which I loved, A Passat estate which was great for a young family, but boring, A Combi which was slow, noisy, thirsty and tiring to drive. An Audi 100 which was very comfortable and easy to live with. My father had an A4 estate which was mind numbingly dull. So Since then I have had BMWs, much nicer to drive, better built, etc. People obviously like these things and judging by the service intervalsthey are probably pretty cheap to run, so somebody will get a car that will drag them and their load around the country sedately but in comfort for many years to come.
It’s hard with these older cars what to know is a good buy. It made a blip sound on unlocking and the dials sweep on ignition so immediately it’s got me thinking it’s had mods done on vcds or a smart phone app based obd mod. Budget tyres are a bit of a put off as where else did owners budget out in upkeep? does make you wonder if they had Johnny at mapz4U put some cruddy tune on it too. I’m sure you’ll have it in good shape and it’ll be a good buy for someone after some tlc.
Looked after, these Superbs last forever. A garage I use in Basingstoke, have a 62 reg diesel Superb hatchback, with 360,000 miles on the clock which they use a courtesy car!
You're going to get a reputation if you keep picking up cars in that place Matt. Mind you, you could gain a whole new clientèle. Might be quite lucrative, as long they don't want to pay you in kind!
One of the best cars i have ever owned was a 2017 mk3 superb 2.0 190 tdi dsg sel executive estate, I only sold it 3 months ago as my local skoda dealer offered me 1500 quid more than I paid for it the year before. I've still got a 2018 skoda citigo sel 75 ps model for town use .but I've replaced the superb with a brand new transporter t6.1 high line dsg Lwb swamper camper .
I love all your reviews Matt, been here pretty much from the start. I just wondered, recently you’ve been showing some of the cheaper cars you deal in/with. Do you get more interest (from viewers/subscribers) in the cheaper cars or the more expensive ones?
We have a 2011 Superb with a 103kW 2.0 TDI engine and the top tier trim(Columbus audiosystem, leather heated seats, front has electric positioning with memory and many more features except a Laurin&Klement badge) with expensive fancy wheels. Motorized Xeon headlights. Paint is in extra good shape. Only three mild dents from chestnuts falling on the car. 161k miles and the only problem is diesel leaking into the oil(barely 200ml after a few months). Bronze/grey paint color. We got offered 7-9k€ for it. Unlike the newer models, this one is extremely reliable and feels like a big piece of a car.
Aye, last January could not decide between a Superb and a Yeti 4x4. Yeti won by virtue of the 4 x 4 and is a fabulous LITTLE car, therein is my problem. Wished I had gone for the LARGE Superb now. Skoda is a much underrated name in my opinion.
The problem with Skoda is that they are still fighting the "old" Skoda name and image. If the brand was to come on the market now, with the current range, no one would bat an eyelid and simply consider it the lower range of the VAG stable. Sadly, too many people remember the "beast" that was the Rapide... Although a bloke in the town I lived wrote off his 944 and transplanted the engine into a Rapide and got a body kit (christ knows where from) and it actually looked decent and obviously shifted ;)
I like the resemblance to Hoovie's garage, a much more sensible and British Hoovie that is, on his quest of putting good, but unloved, cars back on the road. Btw any used car should mandatory come with a photograph of each previous owner in his natural habitat. As a proper Czech, I was driven in zillion Superbs, drove many myself incl. high mileage VR6s, and never seen those parts break as in this one. The owner must have been something special...
Everyone uses it as a family car/working mule, i modified it to my taste, it's a car you never see modified, so mine's pretty unique now, proud of it, it's an amazing car and the sloping rear makes it beautiful to behold in my opinion. Love my MK2 Sup fl 🔥 Gongrats with the purchase 👍🏼
@@khrisbharath752 Yes and it only lost by small margins too, considering that generation E was way more expensive as a full option new Superb mk2, it's a no brainer for me, but i still get people who prefer the E.
That look Matt gives as he talks about wandering around the woods just before dark. I think there's more to tell there. I like these videos. I hope there's enough to make a profit on it. Follow up video?
Any car with Chinese ditch roller tyres, is a car that has clearly been loved by mechanically sympathetic former owners. Basically the poor man's version of the Ferrari Classiche certification.
Another great vid Matt. That's a big boot! This has nothing to with the Skoda or what you get up to in her but as an honest & respected trader, what do you think about tyre insurance? All the best....
Cam belt intervals on the 1.6tdi is 5 years or 112k miles. It should have had one in that time but you never know! I would say do the water pump at the same time as they are prone to failing and then it’s engine damage time! Lovely motor though, 10 years old and still pretty good doing! 😊
Easy for me to say but sounds like the description you were given was slightly economical. I'm guessing but if you had seen it first, might have wanted a bit of a chip off the twenty two.
Vet part ex! That's perfect for the Canine Crews , Put some ads in the dog parlours and vets Matt - I reckon you get about 6k then. You know how much cash they throw at them, be quick and you might make the present list for one lucky 🐩 poodle(or 3) Great vid 👍
I have an Australian released model Series: 3T, 2.0 TDI - since new (now about with those miles and the cam belt done as required) with the added extra options not in this one. The only reason I would sell it would be to upgrade to an EV in a few years. Diesel - excellent economy on the highway with a full load. Easy to fit 4 adults comfortably and luggage (under the luggage screen) for a month on the road.
I think a Superb estate is the ideal car for dogging. Back seats down, big enough for a mattress. Nice big windows for the viewers. Leave it in that spot once it's ready and it'll definitely sell.

Thank you very much for the fun video👍
Eager to learn more about your Superb resurrection Matt.
Good point, but I don't know how much Hubnut and Matt follow each other 's channels (I know he and James Martin do).
@@Treviscoe That is true and great point. Today I learned something too from you! Thank you, fun enthusiast's exchange 👍
There is, the multitude of Japanese and south Korean SUVs
VW won't sell Skoda in the states because it will kill the actual VW brand over there... Pity really..... They would make billions in sales on Skoda models...
1.6 sounds a bit small for that big bus!
You really cant compare Octavia to Superb. Octavia is just piece of crap and Superb is flagship.

How long did you own it for? Any problems with the DSG?
Excellent Matt well done on this latest acquisition
Great video. Fascinating run through, from a professional perspective of all of the potential issues and areas of concern that come from buying in something like this. I would be happy to have that car for that price. Clean it, fix the mechanicals, leave the bodywork, then run it for 3 years for less than the price of a months fuel for a Range Rover Evoke 2.0 diesel....
I’d love to see an after video to see how it looks after the bodywork is sorted and it’s had a good valet. I reckon there’s a decent profit in it 👍🏻
Hi mate i love ur videos and yes i enjoyed that previous video of the skoda superb.
Just came across your channel a few days ago, I've binged watch a good few of your videos really good content, you've gained another subscriber!
I have a feeling this could be a bit of a "pig in lipstick". Missing trim, alarm deactivated ?? bodywork which looks like it's had more hits than Cliff Richard and the latest service invoice to Mr Steve 🤣
One that could be constantly returning for repairs.
Did you still have the umbrella in the rear door? Mine was missing.
@@andrewlaw yes, but I haven't used it yet... 4 years later... but thanks for reminding me! Happy Christmas!
Fantasy land, even in this bloated market. Lucky to grab 4k for what in my a rational market is a 3k vehicle.
🤣🤣🤣
@@brencelt sorry auto trader, have I offended you?
Absolutely spot on - in fact in the current inflated market conditions it's a 4995 car fully cleaned up on the forecourt allowing for a bit of over allowance on a P/x. These Superb estates are good news and not exactly common either.
@@brencelt here where i am they sell 2011 leons or golf for 10k euros so u lucky to get a 2011 superb for 4k
These cars have never been imported into the US, so we are totally unfamiliar with them but I once rode in a Spanish taxi and it seemed fairly good.
Think VW Passat wagon around 2007 ish and this is really similar
Matt check the back of the service book as that was where the info regarding cam belt/ water pump was recorded when VW did mine
You had me going at the start of the video. I was thinking, damn, it's got nice red seats just like that BMW Matt just tested. ;-)
Rear badges from the Mk1 Citigo fits the Superb MK2 front and rear.
@@paulie-Gualtieri. I just couldn't remember what model it was, that's what I bought! 👍
I'd love to see a follow up on this one showing that you have done to prep for sale!
Just bought a 2013 Superb 1.6 diesel SE+ Hatchback in the same colour, Cappuccino Beige, with 58,600 miles and electric memory seats and Amundsen+ head unit with Sat Nav to replace my old 2007 Octavia L+K Hatchback and they're beautiful cars with bags of room in them
Wouldn't be more safe to check the oil first before starting the engine?
ive got an old Skoda octavia .. its like an old Passat totally sturdy ... needs paint job too ... love it though
Throw a mattress in the back and leave it there over night unlocked.
See you there!
Find a Laurin & Klement spec car
I adore my superb 2014. Very understated and fits absolutely everything!! 2 kids (2 under two), dog, prams and shopping.
It's very noble of you to try and keep this bucket on the road - it's so unloved and tatty. I guess if there's still a profit in it for you, knock yourself out. Thanks for sharing and have a very Merry Christmas, Matt.
Parcel shelf eBay , front air duct can be done , you tube , tyres I would change them for Michelin and , fix auto for spray and dents
It’s difficult to pick things placed deep in the boot. Third row of doors would help :).
That looks a nice car but If I was buying it I would worry about the dent by the petrol filler cap. Will that cost a lot to fix?
I have to comment on your location of your cars like it’s a mystery of who parks them there for you to find then you go over the car and without fail there’s always rubbish left in them!
I do like a Skoda Superb estate however, feel like this one was probably over priced by about £400-£500 considering the resale value.
You don't go easy on your gf to leave her tighter for the next guy. I wouldn't be reselling a car like this, just wait until it dies.

Call me insane but I like the superb better.
just looking at a 2012 superb estate 1.6 tdi. How's yours been?
very informative video.
Hi Matt congratulations on reaching 149,000 subscribers and you will soon at be 150,000 subscribers
Dial sweep standard on start, alarm blip is changeable via settings of on board computer.
Looked after, these Superbs last forever. A garage I use in Basingstoke, have a 62 reg diesel Superb hatchback, with 360,000 miles on the clock which they use a courtesy car!
I subscribe because of the no nonsense reviews
... and the love for Skodas and hatred for Nissan Jukes
Great review Matt. This car could represent a good deal for the buyer and a nice acceptable profit to you.
You're going to get a reputation if you keep picking up cars in that place Matt. Mind you, you could gain a whole new clientèle. Might be quite lucrative, as long they don't want to pay you in kind!
😁
One of the best cars i have ever owned was a 2017 mk3 superb 2.0 190 tdi dsg sel executive estate, I only sold it 3 months ago as my local skoda dealer offered me 1500 quid more than I paid for it the year before. I've still got a 2018 skoda citigo sel 75 ps model for town use .but I've replaced the superb with a brand new transporter t6.1 high line dsg Lwb swamper camper .
I knew it would only be a matter of time after you reviewed it the other week you seemed to genuinely like it
Great video, shows the hard graft you have to put in.
I love all your reviews Matt, been here pretty much from the start. I just wondered, recently you’ve been showing some of the cheaper cars you deal in/with. Do you get more interest (from viewers/subscribers) in the cheaper cars or the more expensive ones?
It's more relatable for us plebs 😃
Oh yeah - and if you look at the current Skoda 4x4s, the bigger ones are not bad in the slightest !
BIG difference in size, could understand an Octavia over a Superb but a Yeti? 🤷
Love my MK2 Sup fl 🔥
Gongrats with the purchase 👍🏼
This generation of the Superb is so much nicer to look at in estate form. I vaguely remember Fifth Gear comparing it to an E Class back in the day
@@khrisbharath752
Yes and it only lost by small margins too, considering that generation E was way more expensive as a full option new Superb mk2, it's a no brainer for me, but i still get people who prefer the E.
@@khrisbharath752 still comparable to an E class. Does everything as well except general refinement (road noise, insulation)

I’d love to see a review on a B7 passat estate
Cam belt intervals on the 1.6tdi is 5 years or 112k miles. It should have had one in that time but you never know! I would say do the water pump at the same time as they are prone to failing and then it’s engine damage time!
Lovely motor though, 10 years old and still pretty good doing! 😊
Those air vents are a right PITA to get right, I know because clumsy fingers me has bent a few.
Easy for me to say but sounds like the description you were given was slightly economical. I'm guessing but if you had seen it first, might have wanted a bit of a chip off the twenty two.

Brilliant video mate absolutely compelling and interesting
