    Edit 3:
Grant has uploaded his comparison of the Vivo X90 Pro+ vs S23 Ultra and look at the low light video section. The S23 Ultra has no chance. The Vivo is just far more detailed.
    ruclips.net/video/Ty0ttb9jK0c/видео.html
    Edit 2:
I do want to make it clear that I'm not saying that Samsung makes bad image sensors. That's far from the truth.
Samsung's ISOCELL GN2 is a 50MP 1/1.12 inch sensor (far bigger than the 200MP HP2) and is used by the Mi11 Ultra. It crushed the Galaxy S22 Ultra and is only crippled slightly by Xiaomi's processing.
Even the Mi12 Ultra struggled against the Mi11 Ultra.
So Samsung could've simply used the GN2 sensor, instead they went with a needless but more marketable 200MP sensor that has little purpose in actual image quality.
Edit: Please ignore 2:58 as that's S22 Ultra and not S23 Ultra. My bad! But the other two are S23 Ultra samples.
When Grant will do his S23U vs Vivo video, I'll update the link here (not expecting a different conclusion though).

Agree with you, samsung used to be a good camera phone but now due to competition it had to bring more MP Camera neglecting the sensor size, I thought when redmi brought 48Mp camera that would be saturation point..but companies kept on bringing phones with 50Mp, 60Mp, 108 and now 200Mp which was not even required, rather they should work on technologies like sensor size, OIS , 3rd part app optimisation instead of this cheap tricks, that would rayher please customers more..

      Correct!
Any real camera user can say that sensor size is more important that sheer resolution.
It's the marketing team that is dictating the innovation! It's not good!
Samsung semiconductors themselves have a huge almost 1 inch (1/1.12 inch) 50MP GN2 sensor that is used by Mi11 Ultra and it's actually stunning for video and low light.
The Mi11 Ultra even beat the Mi12 Ultra! Only Mi12S Ultra with the latest 1 inch IMX 989 beat the Mi11 Ultra.
And Samsung themselves is going in the wrong direction! :(

@@techstation365 yeah was about to mention sony imx989, that beast sensor with one inch what could ot have achieved with samsung optimisation..but samsung is stuck with self centered mentality like they used to with their exynos chips, even they have better options they won't use them as they want everything samsung made, but end up creating more mess, SD 8 gen 2 performs higher than A15 bionic it could have overcame the iphone and android gap but then there is no perfect amdroid anymore, even pixel 7!7pro feel half baked, their low light videos doesnt even come close to samsung iphone vivo just noise and noise

    • @techstation365

@@AbhishekBalagaon I feel they are extremely focussed on mainstream audience.
They have the ISOCELL GN2 which is much bigger at 1/1.12 inch size 50MP with huge 1.4 micron native pixel size but for some odd reason they prefer to use a 200MP sensor with almost 10 times smaller 0.6 micron pixel size.
      Definitely easier for marketing.
I truely believe Samsung semiconductors/Samsung Displays have some truely awesome products that for some reason, Samsung electronics themselves don't use like better image sensors(Mi11U) and better display panels (iPhone 14 Pro Max).
Samsung's biggest weakness right now though is their fabrication process which has fallen behind significantly. Believe me, their 14nm/7nm node was quite good, they beat Intel and had caught up with TSMC but lost it all since Pandemic time....
Hopefully they improve their hardware, because Samsung is technically still pretty good even with inferior hardware!

hey a7siii owner here, you would be surprised how good high resolution sensors do in video low light from oversampling 4k from a higher resolution, but having big pixels allows them to have a very high 2nd native iso of 12,800. and it seems to have a little less chroma noise.
I totally agree, the imx 989 with Samsung tuning would have been nuts. I am still getting the s23 ultra though since I broke the screen of my note 20 ultra.

      @techstation365  Год назад

You are right about the high resolution 33MP A7IV in terms of details because it is able to downsample all the 16:9 pixels into 4K!!
The S23 Ultra simply doesn't have that capability!!!!
Just like cameras like the MF Fuji GFX and some other FF cameras as well from past years...
But bigger and less dense pixels definitely still result in lesser signal to noise ratio! You must agree there!
I feel A7III is better than A7IV in terms of noise performance.

7:48 2:1 pixel binning is not possible. It must be 4:1 or 9:1 or 16:1. Thus apple uses 4:1 to bin 48mp into 12mp picture. S22U for 9:1 to bin 108mp into 12mp. And S23U for 16:1 for binning 200mp into 12.5mp. There is more research needed for you to be done to understand more about smarthphone camera. Though many things you said is also quite true.

Right quad bayer sensor, 2:1 pixel binning is not possible. So to hell with binning.

Hey, i was planning to buy a phone, confused between Samsung s21 fe & pixel 7. Or should I wait for a 1nch imx 989 phone to be more affordable( like till October)?

Don't buy the 21FE. Pixel 7 can be considered but I would suggest let's wait a bit more to see what comes in the market with better hardware.
Although Pixel 7 definitely has both better hardware and software than S21FE. Can go for it, if you don't want to wait.

Mp race is stupid... 200mp is a joke and its not a true 200mp because it's many 12mp fused Together to do a 200mp final pic. In that case, Vivo 50mp is doing way better than Sammy 200mp

iPhone 14 pro max have great video performance even it can shoot ProRes and you notice that the Vivo x90 pro plus capture more noise than s23 ultra and iPhone

    • @techstation365
      @techstation365  Год назад +1

Bro even professional mirrorless cameras capture more noise. That doesn't mean that they are worse. They don't sacrifice details.
Noise can be removed in post production or in general noise is much harder to spot due to compression after uploading to social media, BUT YOU'LL EASILY SPOT THE DETAIL DIFFERENCE. You can remove noise, but you can never add details.
Notice how the iPhone is sacrificing so much details in favor of removing noise.
ProRes is a just a semi-raw format, it doesn't cover for the worse sensor.
