      The hardware is the least of my concern... The missing features & usability problems & bugs is the main problem for me!
      My older Galaxy phones didn't have these issues & had way more options & adjustments, and didn't have the weird usability bugs.

    Totally agree with your take on this as these are the same woes I share with samsung phones in general. They have industry leading hardware and yet they refule to include it in their phones.
    Example, pulse width modulation (pwm) is something that affects 1 in 10 people. It is caused due to oled flicker as a means to control brightness. It is sonething that i suggest anyone to look into as its a broad topic and worth a 10 min read, but the short answer is, pwm below 500hz flicker causes eye strain to the user along with nausea, and this is (mostly) what makes people have headaches when using their phones in the dark.
    Iphones have 480hz pwm, but samsung has 240hz pwm. You can even see the screen flicker if you open the camera app and preview the screen footage of the samsung screen and see the flicker. I generally have headaches and eye strain when using samsung phones, but not iphones or chinese lcd and oled phones. While top tier flagships like the newly announced iqoo 12 have 2160hz pwm, samsung’s s23 ultra has 240hz pwm.
    Its incredibly frustrating when you know samsung has the tech to make the better screen (they are screen suppliers for the iphone and the iphones have better pwm), but they refuse to include it in their products. They can destroy the iphone with even their currently available tech and they always just manage to beat the iphone in overall specs. And ironically, in typical Samsung fashion, they ran an advertising campaign on their oled displays, stating why high pwm is safer for the eye and low pwm is linked with eye strain, yet they dont include the tech with their phones.
    I wish you talk about this feature in one video.
    Also their insistence to include exynos with samsung flagships which are almost always slower and hotter than their qualcomm counterparts, while in fact, they can make cost effective midrange chips with flagship level of power efficiency and low heat, while providing modest performance at midrange price over snapdragon 7 series is also annoying.
    And whats more, most western reviewers champion samsung as their flagship android phone with the best specs, while chinese phones offer similar or less performance while costing much less. Also there is the software aspect, but i think samsung is way behind in hardware department, and in markets such as India, software really doesnt help much in sales as people rather prefer even last gen flagship hardware at cheaper price over current midrange hardware.
    Sorry for the rant, but these were my thoughts. Hope samsung does better

    • @techstation365
      @techstation365  10 месяцев назад

      I completely understand your feelings!
      Several of these Chinese competitors have far surpassed Samsung in several departments... especially camera performance.
      The biggest feature that these brands are missing is display out through Type-C else almost everything else is just as good (may be Samsung has an edge with One UI) or better.
      I could've made a way longer video tearing into Samsung.
      And yes techtubers have hyped up Samsung update policy so much that many have gotten brainwashed that updates are everything completely ignoring the fact that their hardware is dog turd. People have commented on my video that they would purchase Tab S7 FE 4G over Tab S7+ just because of updates (these two were really close in price a year back)!! Ridiculous! Same logic they apply on scam like Tab S9 FE vs excellent tablet like Mi Pad 6.
      There is so much frustration and a lot to talk about!! God Samsung why you do this!??!!

      @aasishwarsaravana5748 10 месяцев назад

      @@techstation365 yeah I agree with the usb c and software update problem. Faster Type c standard can not only help with display output but also faster transfer speeds. And occasionally connecting the phone to a bigger display for better file management and projects that can be done on phone like a powerpoint, but can achieve better productivity with an external display support.
      And im sick of the bullshit marketing of software updates. Iam using my mom’s old s8 plus as secondary android phone, and even though it runs oneui 1 and has only 4 gigs of ram, it rums perfectly fine and dare i say, even close to a 10,000rs phone. The software has been great even now. However, ios 17.2 has been a buggy mess with my ipad and iphone - safari is too slow to organise and manage tabs and apps take longer to load. Software updates literally slow down even flagship products, and i learnt my lesson of never updating software unless bugs are fixed
      Iam also sick of the fact that big tech and most techtubers want to push us to buy more hardware in order to be more productive, yet even a midrange flagship can perform 90% of the tasks you want even without external screen support. Rather than going all in on a perfect mobile device, they would rather screw us over with giving us good enough specs and charging us more for said crap with promises of longer software updates, that actually slow down your phone and force you to buy a new device much more sooner than the guaranteed software life of the devices, and also make you buy their other hardware with similar woes mentioned above.
      And now with AI buzzword coming to their devices, I guess devices may become much more intelligent to brick themselves faster at the perfect time so me might buy new phones much faster…

    I second this.... "Upgrading" from my old Galaxy 9 to the S20 felt like a major downgrade. Important features are now missing, weird & annoying bugs & phone behavior, etc. It's just way less pleasing to use!
    There are some seriously headscratching issues, like not being able to keep just the Ringer on while Muting notifications, the cursor & screen keeps jumping around & scrolling when trying to edit text, many missing options, etc.
    I just don't get it... Why is it like this?? This will absolutely be the last Samsung Galaxy phone I ever buy. I will be switching to another brand after this.

  • @RobertDunn310
    @RobertDunn310 10 месяцев назад +2

    I agree with most of the video. Samsung's latest phone models do have certain features downgraded that make it more attractive to purchase an older model from one or two years ago instead. For instance, I remember I was at a store looking at the Samsung Galaxy S22+ and comparing it to my current S20+ and, besides maybe a better camera and variable refresh-rate screen and 5G, my S20+ was better since it has more RAM, the SD card slot, and the screen was also bigger as well.
    This is why I got my mom and her friend used S20+ since it was the best value for the money and there is no 5G yet in my country anyway (Panama), so no use in getting a 5G device.
    As for the Android upgrade, your opinion does not coincide with my experience. My S20+ is stuck on One UI 5.1 but honestly it has made the phone faster than ever with very, very decent battery life because the Snapdragon 865 is still great in 2024 and the 12GB of RAM has also made it very future-proof. I think this is why Samsung is nerfing their later models, because they realize that they "give too much away" to not entice enough upgrades.

    • @techstation365
      @techstation365  10 месяцев назад +2

      My stance on Android updates is that I wouldn't sacrifice good hardware over poor hardware with good software. Samsung has streamlined their software development process so much so that it has become really cost effective and so they are mainly using it as a "feature" while gimping on hardware and techtubers and casuals are eating this up!! They don't realize that poor hardware will never give a good user experience and software updates will only make the experience worse.
      Your S20+ has plenty good hardware but compare to scams like Tab S9 FE or A53 or A54 etc.. I have seen people saying that they would buy a Tab S9 FE over a Mi Pad 6 mainly because of Samsung's software. Same with people preferring to buy Tab S7 FE 4GB over Tab S7+ when the two were close in price, just because of the promise of more software updates. Hell people would pick a Tab S9 FE over the Tab S7+
      On personal note even I'm on Android 5.1.1 on my Galaxy S20 FE 5G SD865 and it's perfect. I don't need to upgrade to a new phone for One UI 6 and then lose the microSD slot.

Can you tell your view which one to go ? Vivo im not considering as of now, but i checked the cameras they are awesome.

    The hardware specs are the least of my concerns.... I was expecting this video to be about what actually matters - Usability!
    The newer Galaxy phones have less options & more usability issues than any of my older Galaxy phones had. I just want a phone that's user friendly & behaves like I would expect!
    The newer Galaxy phones have some headscratching omissions for tweaks & options & have strange behavioral issues. Even something as simple as muting Notifications while keeping the Ringer on is now impossible... Ridiculous! & that is just the start of the issues, there are MANY more!
    I had both the S4 and S9 and they both worked significantly better than my S20+. This S20+ will be the last Samsung phone that I buy. They are going downhill.

      iOS isn't my cup of tea, but in terms of brute camera performance there are several Androids that have surpassed Samsung(and even iPhones) by a long shot.... only because Samsung themselves are cutting cost by using gimmicky sensors.
      You should try out phones like the X90 Pro or Mi 12S Ultra/13 Pro. The images and videos from these phones with 1inch sensors will blow you away!

      Bro you need eye surgery if you believe this.
      I am an actual mirrorless camera user with real lenses and I have experienced the S23 Ultra and the X90 Pro. The 1 inch sensor packs so much micro details compared to the oversharpened look of the S23 Ultra, it's not even funny. The biggest difference is in 60 fps mode(1080p/4K) which looks horrible on the 22U and 23U.
      For Mi 12S Ultra, this is what it can do -> ruclips.net/video/L3PBuQKpJyo/видео.html I have NEVER seen micro detail like this on a 22U or 23U, in fact ever on any other phone.

    I’m not sure if Samsung was trying to save money and increase profits, but the hardware specs and pricing seem all over the place. Let’s take a look at the RAM and storage configurations across various Samsung models:
    Note 10 Plus: 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, and an SD card slot.
    Note 20 Ultra (Note 20U): 12GB RAM, 128GB storage, and an SD card slot.
    S21 Ultra (S21U): 12GB RAM, 128GB storage.
    S22 Ultra (S22U): 8GB RAM, 128GB storage.
    S23 Ultra (S23U): 8GB RAM, 256GB storage.
    S24 Ultra (S24U): 12GB RAM, 256GB storage.
    As you’ve rightly pointed out, the RAM and storage configurations have been fluctuating over the years. I wonder if the S Ultra series decreased in price to compensate for these variations. For instance, the Note 20 Ultra was priced at $1,299 when it was released. Now, with the S24 Ultra, Samsung might need to do something different to keep users like me interested.
    In the US, the trade-in and preorder deal for the S24 Ultra was so tempting that I couldn’t resist. I’m trading in my Note 20 Ultra, and after factoring in some freebies, I paid either $717 or $599 before taxes. If the price had been higher, I might not have opted for the S24 Ultra.

      @@techstation365 From reading the forums it seems USA has the best deals. From my experience of traveling through Europe and Asia, it seems like other parts of the worlds has more affordable options. Chinese smartphones are not known or sold in major stores. If you Americans want some of the Chinese phones then they have to order them. Then the import taxes and shipping end up costing the same without warranty.

      However Samsung caters to Android users who have plenty of choices and are generally more of a power user. Many people call Samsung - "The Apple of Android" as a praise but to me that's the negative part. Samsung used to uphold the spirit of Android with good hardware and plenty of features but we are losing that now... in fact Samsung has already lost that touch.

    Samsung has been happily stripping away essential features ever since Note 9 came out. Fanboys are too blind to see the reality. Value for money has been plummeting ever since note 9 came out. Consumers are happy with paying 1200 or 1300 dollars for what's a massive downgrade to older flagships, too stupid and blind to see the reality ... it's unfortunate how big corporations blinded by greed and profit have been getting away with fooling us consumers. No charger in the box sealed the fate for me. The thing is, every other company has been following the footsteps of Samsung in the android space, likes of google, Sony etc. Stick with older flagships.
