The ability to install linux and potentiall Steam OS makes it a candidate for a portable gaming PC, given you have a thermoelectric cooler or the phone has an active cooling option like the Redmagic phones. Can't wait to play games on it (RDR1 reached an average of 130FPS on an 8 Elite phone, imagine the native performance)

Great video. I wonder why no one talks about it. This video deserves more attention..... Like cmon devs... Make this happen Why no... Why I imagine using my s24u with my 85 inch tv with apps that are optimized for desktop mode
Yea, I totally agree with all your points. I have a Mi11Ultra and am seriously considering upgrading to Xi15Ultra next year. But like you mentioned, while the SD Elite and its GPU (4.6 teraflops) is super impressive, the desktop mode in phones most of the time is such an after thought, and so limited. At least Samsung has this DeX thing, most phones have got nearly nothing in that direction. Xiaomi has finally started adding Display-Alt output from their USB-C port since their 14 series, but I don't think there are any real features apart from screen mirroring (that too I am not sure I have options to set it at 16:9 4k 60hz at least). This power could be leveraged not only using external monitors/TVs but also VR headsets, where maybe we could just buy the shell and connect it with the phone's hardware directly. Also, I'm not sure how future proof it might be too, because the new AI stuff may require new architectures or dedicated hardware units or something. Another issue is, while the camera improvements keep coming, they all cater to general consumer preferences with the over saturated bright processed waxy look, While my only primary interest is to have the camera be exactly like a DSLR or simply exceed it even. I spent so much time perfecting the mi11ultra camera look through GCAM mods and some tweaking, I'd have to do the same for any new phone too if I want the organic look.
Mi11 Ultra was a true Ultra phone. I can only imagine the images it could produce using Gcam. ISOCELL GN2 right? Big 1/1.12 inch sensor.. with a screen at the back for the best selfies ever haha! Xiaomi has been providing DP1.4 for sometime now, I don't know why they don't work on a desktop mode, or at least allow us to trigger the experimental desktop mode from dev options but even that doesn't work in HyperOS.
Also, Samsung just didn't even give Ultra HDR photos capture support to older devices despite having capable hardware. HDR video editing sadly don't even exist but we can edit HDR photos though using Lightroom and Google Photos.
LF on iPad OS lets you switch to HLG or PQ color space but on Android it can't. LF devs say it's some kind of Android limitation (even though LR atleast let's you trigger HDR mode). God knows who is speaking the truth.

Reason devs are not utilizing these chips is because pf the broad number of chips on the android side.a note 8 samsung can run an app that runs on a s24 ultra
Wow, interesting.. even my 10 year old laptop can run RDR2 while my 2024 RTX 4060 runs it a lot better. The combination of actual config + OS choices on PC is an order of magnitude more varied than Android, and yet we don't talk about this issue for PCs, do we? You understand performance scaling exists right? Does your Note 8 run PUBG or Genshin Impact as well as your 24 Ultra?
8Gen3 and above have 10Gbps bandwidth but manufacturers are still stuck with 5Gbps. Bandwidth is the main limitation for dex. Like we need at least 20Gbps. Cause when you connect to external display tab display switches to 60 Hz. Also, 20Gbps will allow 1440p at 120Hz with 10 bit color depth for external display.
Actually let me correct you, it's not about the usb bandwidth but the display port protocol implemented via dp-alt. Infact non-pro iPhones can output video even though they are on USB 2.0. From what I know, Samsung tablets can output upto 4K60Hz using goodlock mods which basically suggests it's DP1.4 and so does Xiaomi which supports 4K60Hz output by default (and that's age old SD870). DP1.4 can easily handle 1440p144Hz, in fact it can do 3440x1440 240Hz. So it some kind of other limitation, God knows what it is.
The reason game devs dont make AAA games for mobile is because of the fact that if they did people would see less point in buying consoles or pcs and the games on them. Its all about money which is a shame because i 100% agree and the raw power mobile devices have now could easily run these higher quality games
I believe they can certainly co-exist. If age old Nintendo Switch with much much much less powerful hardware than even upper mid-range android phones can have AAA ports like Doom Eternal and Hogwarts Legacy, then they can definitely exist on Android as well. The port should also not be expensive, as Nintendo Switch port already exists and Switch is really old now. The devs just need to implement a reasonable DRM to prevent piracy, that's it.
thermals are also a big factor. no matter how powerful smartphone soc are the thermals will be always limiting when you push these chips to its limits. they give you a performance burst just for 2 minutes and then they thermal throttle to oblivion. nowadays peoples want slim and waterproof phones so i don't blame the companies too for not implementing proper cooling like the Nintendo switch and other handheld consoles have
