Kevin’s ability to transform himself sonically time and time again only speaks to his talent and strength as a creative mind. Protect him at all costs.
I really really hope you guys listen to Innerspeaker in full. But about Lonerism, what an album. Album that I have consistently went back to, It really has a world of it's own and I have so many memories attached to it since I discovered it in high school back in 2013 or so. It's quite emotional to hear now. I love how your dad recognizes drum sounds and production techniques, Kevin did indeed record those drums in an untreated room with a lot of muffling. He also doesn't mic up the toms, he just uses two overhead microphones so that's why the drums sound so open and boomy on this album. And he is a great drummer, you can tell his technique is really solid and he's playing so loose and relaxed. Drums were his first instrument and it really shows on this record. They're the main stars of this album. Also I love how you guys really recognized the vibe and the feeling of this album. It is indeed quite uplifting while also being very melancholic. While the album is always associated with 60s psychedelic rock, I think there's also an element of shoegaze and dream pop to it as well, It really does remind me of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, where you have these beautiful, uplifting melodies drenched in buzz and reverb and all sorts of other effects, creating this colorful, emotional and melancholic feeling. If you guys want to listen to a similar album to this, check out Melody's Echo Chamber's self titled album. She was Kevin's girlfriend at the time (She's the one speaking on Nothing that has....) and they made that album together at the same time as Lonerism, and I always considered it to be the sister album to Lonerism and it's produced and mixed by Kevin and I think he plays some drums and guitar on it as well. It probably leans even more to the dream pop side and it's absolutely amazing.
Melody’s Echo Chamber, the self titled album, is lowkey a masterpiece. It helps being a tame Impala fan when listening, and knowing that Lonerism, Currents, and Melody’s Echo Chamber all revolve around eachother. You can listen to both sides of the relationship and listen to how both of them feel, and being fans of both you can feel for both of them and just feel all the emotions. I’m having a hard time explaining, but when you find out Currents is about Melody and Melody’s Echo Chamber is sometimes about Kevin just make the experiences of listening to both albums so much better
@@leo_wentzel You touched on something really cool here i know exactly what you're talking about. It's a bit weird to talk about their relationship as fans so I'm not going to get into it, but listening to these albums (And also some of Melody's later songs) you definitely feel this relationship was something significant in both of their lives and gave birth to some amazing pieces of art. They are indeed all kind of related to eachother and tell a story of sorts.
this album was supposed to be named Loner Pop, some of the first copies have that name and it really just goes perfect with the vibe created here, also, Kevin (Parker) sounds so much like John Lennon here
Lonerism is my favorite album of all time. I started digging into Tame Impala back in 2020 and I remeber the exact moment I heard the instrumentally switch up on Apocolypse Dreams for the first time. My mind was blown, and since then, this album has been in constant rotation and is my most streamed album of all time. This album inspired me to mix my songs and albums like it cuz it sucks you in and doesnt let up which I something I hope to recreate in my own music.
the first time i heard apocalypse daydream and actually listened was on an eighth of shrooms laying on a trampoline watching the stars. i don’t think any music will ever replicate that feeling.
@@masonhoover165 I just recently started get into weed. The first thing I did when I realized I was fried was put Apocalypse Dreams and get how you feel. The bass felt like it was spinning horizontally in my ears and the switch up sent me to a new universe. It genuinely felt like heaven
Fun fact: the girl telling Kevin to come back inside on Nothing That Has Happened So Far is actually Melody Prochet who is actually the girl he’s talking about breaking up with off the first half of Currents. She has her own music project called Melody’s Echo Chamber, she’s awesome!!!
This album means so much to me. A introspective deep dive into an introverted loner who feels separated from the world around him. It’s perfect from start to finish, I’m so glad you guys reacted to it.
"this album sounds like 5 guys jamming out on acid" is the best comparison to Tame Impala i've ever heard, it's so goddamn accurate, it's literally what Tame Impala's first 2 albums sound like, and i find it absolutely extraordinary how one man can have so much musical talent it's crazy. Kevin Parker has really become my favorite artists, for me he is a musical genius who knows how to perfectly make a song that transports you into beautiful psychedelic world. When I saw you guys upload this video i knew it was going to be amazing, as I always love the way you two talk about music and the songs and albums you reviews. As a music lover but not a musician myself, hearing super precise comments on certain sounds, effects and instruments etc (Kevin sticking in the "intro" part of the song on Mind Mischief) is amazing to hear and really makes me love Kevins work (in this particular case), hearing and realising things only musicians would notice and appreciate. Anyways was an absolutely pleasure seeing Kevin (not Parker lol) discover and love this album!!!! I'd LOVE to see you guys review his first album next (Innerspeaker), its fucking incredible too!!!! Peaceeee!!!!!!!!
Saw Tame Impala at the Hollywood Bowl on 11/02/2021 and they played ‘Keep On Lying’ and then transitioned to seamlessly play Light My Fire by The Doors. It was INCREDIBLE. When they ended the song, Kevin mentioned how The Doors performance at the Bowl in 1968 was one of his favorite live performances.
This album means the absolute world to me. I found it during Covid and now Tame Impala is my favorite artist. I saw the slow rush show in LA like DAYS before the world shut down. That was the last group event I was at for 2 years. Tame impala was basically all I listened to during Covid. Got me through so much stuff, breakups everything. For my birthday last year my dad got me desert daze tickets to see Lonerisms 10 year anniversary and although I took wayyyyy too many mushrooms, the experience was nothing short of heavenly. They played be above it all the way down to suns coming up, no b sides or anything. No other songs or solos. I was upset at the time that I didn’t get to hear Beverly laurel but it was very bittersweet. Tame impala has saved me in so many ways.
I first listened to this album in 2014 after graduating high school and before starting university. This entire album marked a huge period of transition for me and my friends and is the album of that entire summer. Every time I listen to it it brings me back to those summer days hanging out with my friends and just living life, knowing that we were all going to move away from each other at the end of the summer. My favorite album of all time by a mile
I was first exposed to Tame Impala when they were one of two bands that opened for the Flaming Lips back in 2012. The other band was Sean Lennon's band, Ghost of a Sabertooth Tiger. My friends and I couldn't get over the fact that Kevin Parker's voice sounded more like John Lennon's than his own son's. Anyway, a very nostalgic record for myself and my group of friends. It became the soundtrack of our twenties
I love this album so much, thank you for doing this. When i discovered Tame Impala back in 2012, they had just put this out and it honestly changed my life. Truly an experience. Over 10 years later, ive heard this an infinite amount of times and it still sounds as refreshing as ever!!
Best way I could ever put it! I’m only 20, didn’t get introduced to them until much later in my life, but their music makes me feel like I know them personally. I have never and will never get tired of his music. It’s refreshing every single time.
This album proved to me that music can capture your life in a pocket of your mind. A personal place formed by a glue merging the audible with physical. When I listen to anything from this album, it takes me back to a place like nothing else can. They say that scent is the strongest memory trigger, but I don't know a single scent that hits me harder than these sounds. Masterpiece.
Innerspeaker and Lonerism are my favorite Tame Impala albums. Discovered them after Lonerism, and together these two albums were an absolute trip. I always said that these albums made my me melt. It is such an audio journey that you also kinda take inwards. Kevin Parker took us across dimensions, and a way back in time
saw him perform this whole album at Desert Daze here in California. I even went to the gate in Paris where the album cover was taken it felt so surreal. while all his albums are masterpieces Lonerisms is something else. I never get tired of it.
I already know these fellas would absolutely enjoy "live versions" from tame impala. the extended beautiful tracks would be a complete eargasm for them.
imho one of the best albums from 2010s. Never get tired of it. Every time you listen to it, it's like to start again a trip you've really enjoyed in the past. Kevin Parker is such a music genius.
I remember the first time I heard this album so vividly. I was a sophomore in high school and was at a friends house with several other friends. It was the first time I'd been to their house, and they had a modest vinyl collection in the living room where we were hanging out. I started looking at the spines, and my friend offered to play some, pulling this album off the shelf. The moment the first big chord hits in "Be Above It", I was hooked. I listened to it when I got home that night, and then the next day, and the next....I resonated so much with the lyrical themes throughout, and fell in love with the atmosphere. Currents had also just dropped around that time, so the same friend and I saw Tame Impala live for my first concert.
I was in Spanish class, my friend and just recently shown me Tame Impala, but he said he never really liked Lonerism. So, I finished my assignment in Spanish class, and cus I was cool with the teacher she'd let me go on my phone, I loaded up Lonerism onto my cracked iphone se and as soon as the first chord of Be Above It hit I was hooked. I maybe got to the end of mind mischief when class ended, I walked to my next class zoned out listening to Music To Walk Home By, which is now my favorite song of all time, and didn't pay attention to my next class at all while I just let the rest of lonerism play. Thank God for this album and Kevin Parker
This channel continues to bring me so much joy. Feel like I had a super similar adolescent experience to Connor and found peace in the same genres. Keep doing what you guys are doing love to see the growth!!
This album, and a few of Kevin's others truly changed my life for the better. It helped me through the hard times and shaped my music taste from there. Thank you for covering this! Looking forward to more
This makes me so happy, Lonerism is an album that genuinely means a lot to me and seeing this just puts a smile on my face. Lonerism is my #1 favorite album of all time. Thanks for doing this
I have been waiting for this one since I first discovered you guys and I was not disappointed. Gives me goosebumps to vicariously listen for the first time all over again!
@@F1amisismatt1 you say that like Jesus Christ can do those things. At least Kevin Parker is here and now making beautiful music, transporting us all to momentary heaven.
Been waiting for this one.. I saw tame Impala play Lonerism in its entirety September of 2022 at the Desert Daze music festival. This album has always been different to me. It changed my life and altered the way I listen to music forever. I can’t listen to the album anymore without getting chills, getting flashbacks of the festival. Surrounded by hundreds of people just like you. The best experience of my life, it brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.
man seeing these compared to your earlier videos you guys really found the right wavelength and are comfortable doing these and more fleshed out thoughts. cool to see, thanks for the vid
Thnks! Heard Tame Impala live 2 months ago, after being a huge fan for almost 5 years and I feel his music is a big part of who I was and what I became. What a Nostalgic track.
i have been falling in love with kevin and his music more and more for a while now, every album is always such a full experience while listening. but lonerism... man that album stands out. the instruments, the lyrics, the emotions it creates.. also, your analysis after music to walk home by is one of the most fitting descriptions for this album as well as this era of kevins life
I saw him perform this whole album at Desert Daze here in California. It's a great album. It definitely was a grower for me having heard Currents and The Slow Rush first. Why Wont They Talk to Me is my favorite song.
So happy y'all went through this one. On the mention of "Led Zeppelin" - - that track as well as "Beverly Laurel" weren't included on the album but rather the deluxe edition of Lonerism as B-Sides. Also, I always think of "She Just Won't Believe Me" as a sort of warm-up or opener to "Nothing That Has Happened..." as it's the last real banger off of Lonerism. Maybe not intended, but whenever I want to listen to that one, I always start with "She Just Won't Believe Me" to give it some extra context :-)
this album is so amazing. Like you said there are so many people that keep it close to their hearts and I am one of those people. The way it connects to me is something else and honestly it’s one of those albums i’ll put on and sing and cry to the lyrics as it’s so powerful to me. This will always me the most meaningful album to me and in my opinion is one of the best albums of all time.
the way i would give anything to hear this record for the first time!!! watching your dad's reactions to this gives me so much seratonin you have no idea.
This is my favourite album of all time. I found it after the later Tame Impala albums and immediately connected with the theme. Every track is amazing, although Keep on Lying is probably my favourite. So many things to find in that track.
Lonerism was actually my first Impala record and man it's easily their best imo. The rawness in its lyrics and energy are just so immersive and outstanding.
@@eall5630 Innerspeaker is an amazing record but I think some of the ideas aren't too fleshed out. Great tracks like Lucidity, It Is Not Meant to Be, etc.
I moved to Vancouver from Australia in 2019 and struggled a bit with being lonely. I got into this album and innerspeaker for months and would just go out and explore with my headphones with this cranked! Now i have a daughter here and so much has changed in these 4 years but i will always love tame impala and his first 2 albums will always hold a special place for me. I was quite pleased to see this thumbnail this afternoon! love all your content too btw! You guys are both awesome!
the order in which you guys discussed discovering tame impala through currents and then slow rush came out and so then I went to their older albums is EXACTLY how it went for me and it was wonderful!!! Love ur reactions always
Definitely an album I can truly never get tired of, I pick up on something new every time I listen to it whole, let alone the songs by themselves, Lonerism introduced a whole new genre to me. Don’t know if it’s my favorite album from him, but definitely the most impressive in my opinion.
absolutely love this album, everything about it is incredible and I simply can't get enough of it. I got the record for my birthday a couple of years ago. Keep on Lying, Apocalypse Dreams, Music to Walk Home By are timeless to me. The B-side mixes are great too with Beverly Laurel and the Retina Show from the 10 year anniversary has been on repeat ever since it came out. The entire Tame Impala discography has become my late night runs/walks playlist.
i started listening to tame impala 6 years ago. living in a small town in canada i never had the opportunity to see many big artists. Last year i travelled to Australia and my main goal was to see Tame Impala live. I listened to his albums everyday on repeat while there. I visited at the perfect time where he preformed in Brisbane while i was there. It was life changing. Seeing an aussie artists with a bunch of australians was incredible. The song that hits so deeply is elephant. the vibes during the light show was amazing. he changed my entire trip and has had such an impact on my life. This album hits deeply being an introvert travelling a new country alone.
I love listening to music in albums. I always try to get my friends to listen to music like this together but they never do. Thankfully, I have this channel. Thank you Connor and Kevin.
So, I saw his dad listen to LDR'newest album and now I'm subscribed and here. Tame Impala is soooo freaking amazing and has been a fave of mine for a while now. I had to see his reaction. Love this! Keep making videos like this, please!
There was a day back in 2018 when I went for a walk with my earphones and Lonerism playing. I walked for about two and a half hours. The funny thing is, I was quite lonely at the time and I was trying to get some space from all the people around me. I find it so beautiful that you guys describe the album as a perfect companion for a walk. That's exactly what it turned out to be that fine day. I love Lonerism so much. This album will never leave my heart. ♥️
Remember watching them in 08 at Leeds festival in a small tent and was hooked. They just released their Ep at the time. It was like kasabain and John Lennon had a child, will never forget it, was like 30 people and he had no shoes on lol. Now look at how far they’ve come.
I’ve been listening to Tame Impala since I was in middle school and now that I’m in college, I can safely say that Kevin’s music changed the way I look at my life. Every song he’s done has such an infectious and joyous palette but they communicate these incredibly complex and sometimes painful feelings. But the remarkable thing is that the music feels like the joy of realizing these things and overcoming them is baked into the sound of the music. And the crazy bit is, it felt like Kevin made a song for every complicated and painful emotion I was experiencing but couldn’t articulate. And ironically, the music is so all encompassing to the point where every other artist felt tame by comparison. Lonerism and Currents helped me come to terms with so much, from the immense social anxiety I felt in high school to the complicated feelings I had surrounding romance. And he did it in a way that was creatively inspiring, able to make you dance, and that has the power to heal. Super glad you guys did this one 🫡
Yes! Been waiting for Lonerism. This one took me awhile to get into back in the day buts definitely of the greatest from the past decade. Can't wait for Innerspeaker.
I LOOOOVE seeing you enjoy and interact with your dad with this album. It’s truly a special thing - this coming from one of Tame Impala’s biggest fans from Perth ❤️😄
You guys are great! Lonerism is as you said an album that’s very close to my heart. For me Innerspeaker takes the cake as my favorite, it’s what got me interested in (at the time) current psychedelic music and I still come back to it pretty often. It would be awesome to see you both react to it in real time together!
I remember writing about this album when it came out for my little high school newspaper that no one read 😂 but I hope they look back at my music reviews from our little newspaper being like “damn, that girl was on to something” lol. 🙌🏽

This album's great, so many tracks from here have been my personal favorites since the very first time I listened to it, music to walk home by and mind mischief are my all-time jams.
Finally! Please don't take several months to do Innerspeaker lol I love all the albums honestly. I like to listen to Innerspeaker wave house live version mostly. Innerspeaker really is an album and not an assortment of songs. I wouldn't even pause at the end of the songs tbh, so that you continue with the flow. I suggest maybe watching the live version on youtube first, and then listening together the recorded album. It's a bit weird to talk about their relationship as fans so I'm not going to get into it, but listening to these albums (And also some of Melody's later songs) you definitely feel this relationship was something significant in both of their lives and gave birth to some amazing pieces of art. They are indeed all kind of related to eachother and tell a story of sorts.
this album was supposed to be named Loner Pop, some of the first copies have that name and it really just goes perfect with the vibe created here, also, Kevin (Parker) sounds so much like John Lennon here
He sounds a lot like Lennon on Innerspeaker as well imo.
I still remember when and where I first heard FLWOGB. That does not happen often.
Kevin Parker produced her first album, indeed. Both Lonerism and Melody's Echo Chamber selft-titled debut came out in 2012.
WHAT??? I didn't know he dated the singer from Melody Echo Chamber. I love them.
This album means so much to me. A introspective deep dive into an introverted loner who feels separated from the world around him. It’s perfect from start to finish, I’m so glad you guys reacted to it.
Best tame Impala album imo
Lonerism is the best album of this decade.
Agreed
valid
Top 3
Hearing this live in it's entirety at Desert Daze last year was truly life-altering.
I was actually there live, watching them and it was amaaazing show!!
It was nice I just wish he had done an encore and played more songs
@@blakvenum7687he didn’t play Led Zeppelin !
im so jealous lol
Truly was. I was peaking on acid and I will never experience that again.
Same here man , Best record ever ! It s just perfect
He* had just put it out just one guy not a band
Would recommend checking out Melody's Echo Chamber. Kevin Parker produced her early works.
Yessss, Bon Voyage is one of my all time favorite albums. That opening track alone hits so perfect.
they were dating at that point
6:46 "I love going backwards"
Kevin, you kinda went into the future with that statement
I almost spent 4 grand spontaneously to go…. I didn’t, probably going to regret it for the rest of my life….
I already know these fellas would absolutely enjoy "live versions" from tame impala. the extended beautiful tracks would be a complete eargasm for them.
kevin said he is mainly a drummer. And it shows on this album! always go back for it.
imho one of the best albums from 2010s. Never get tired of it. Every time you listen to it, it's like to start again a trip you've really enjoyed in the past. Kevin Parker is such a music genius.
INNERSPEAKER NEXT!
I absolutely love you guys reacting to Tame Impala! this couldn't have dropped in a better moment, just thank you.
Thanks for doing this
Tame impala is my favorite artist. This album was huge for me sophomore year of high school. So much nostalgia ❤️
I have been waiting for this one since I first discovered you guys and I was not disappointed. Gives me goosebumps to vicariously listen for the first time all over again!
personal favorite and would listen to lonerism from start to end everyday and i still feel like i can’t get enough of it
telling my kids Kevin Parker was Jesus Christ 🙏🏼
Wtf
Lol don’t do that cause even tho kevin is the best musician, he can’t save you from your sins and take you to heaven 😂🙏🏼
@@F1amisismatt1 you say that like Jesus Christ can do those things. At least Kevin Parker is here and now making beautiful music, transporting us all to momentary heaven.
You mean he isn’t?
@@F1amisismatt1 Idk he might be able to you don't know
Been waiting for this one..
I was there too man! Best experience of my life
So happy y'all went through this one.
FINNAAAALLLLYY THE ONE IVE BEEN WAITING FOR HIS BEST ALBUM (in my humble opinion) 😭
this album is so amazing.
"Music to walk home by" + "why wont they talk to me" in a row. Pure magic, i can go in an endless loop there.
the way i would give anything to hear this record for the first time!!! watching your dad's reactions to this gives me so much seratonin you have no idea.
This is my favourite album of all time. I found it after the later Tame Impala albums and immediately connected with the theme. Every track is amazing, although Keep on Lying is probably my favourite. So many things to find in that track.
Keep on lying is my favorite too!
Lonerism was actually my first Impala record and man it's easily their best imo. The rawness in its lyrics and energy are just so immersive and outstanding.
Gotta say innerspeaker is better to me
@@eall5630 Innerspeaker is an amazing record but I think some of the ideas aren't too fleshed out. Great tracks like Lucidity, It Is Not Meant to Be, etc.
@@BincentFifthhis best* not a band just one person it’s not they it’s he all good tho
So stoked you did this one, all time favourite album ❤
I moved to Vancouver from Australia in 2019 and struggled a bit with being lonely. I got into this album and innerspeaker for months and would just go out and explore with my headphones with this cranked! Now i have a daughter here and so much has changed in these 4 years but i will always love tame impala and his first 2 albums will always hold a special place for me. I was quite pleased to see this thumbnail this afternoon! love all your content too btw! You guys are both awesome!
Best album of all time
Nah Fr 😦💅💯
currents still better but it is quite good....
100% agree
Definitely
yes.
So happy when I saw this, one more album to go ! Innerspeaker their live performance reaction would be amazing!
the order in which you guys discussed discovering tame impala through currents and then slow rush came out and so then I went to their older albums is EXACTLY how it went for me and it was wonderful!!! Love ur reactions always
Good to listen through with you guys! I owe a lot to this album - it has influenced me so much as a musician. His best imo
truly one of the greatest albums ever for me
Facts
Definitely an album I can truly never get tired of, I pick up on something new every time I listen to it whole, let alone the songs by themselves, Lonerism introduced a whole new genre to me. Don’t know if it’s my favorite album from him, but definitely the most impressive in my opinion.
My favourite Tame project - it’s transcendent, timeless and exciting.
absolutely love this album, everything about it is incredible and I simply can't get enough of it.
My favourite Tame Impala album 🙏
Finally I’ve been waiting for this reaction for ever!!! Tame Impala is the greatest
My personal favorite album. Been waiting so long for you guys to cover this one
Without a doubt the best thing Kevin Parker has ever, and most likely will ever, create.
I love listening to music in albums. I always try to get my friends to listen to music like this together but they never do. Thankfully, I have this channel. Thank you Connor and Kevin.
I've been waiting for this for months!!!! Lonerism is best Tame Impala album for sure
So, I saw his dad listen to LDR'newest album and now I'm subscribed and here. Tame Impala is soooo freaking amazing and has been a fave of mine for a while now. I had to see his reaction. Love this! Keep making videos like this, please!
Your dad is the dad I aspire to be someday. Keep on the good work!
This is such a beautiful album. So glad to see another tame impala reaction!
One of my fav albums of all time
I have so many great memories associated with this album. Really connected with it when I tried psychedelics for the first time haha
this album has been my fav Tame Impala album since forever
never gets bad

Yesssss My favorite allbum ever , i ve bien waiting for it so loong ! Thank You guys!
The baseline in feels like we only go backwards will never get old
Remember watching them in 08 at Leeds festival in a small tent and was hooked. They just released their Ep at the time. It was like kasabain and John Lennon had a child, will never forget it, was like 30 people and he had no shoes on lol. Now look at how far they’ve come.
so jealous
yeah he always had the dogs out back then
Yeah there a lot of instances when he sounds like Lennon, kinda trippy to be honest lol
Yessssss you gotta do InnerSpeaker now
This is one of my favorite albums, just an amazing work.
was waiting for this project!!!
Super glad you guys did this one 🫡
well put
True shit
Yes! Been waiting for Lonerism. This one took me awhile to get into back in the day buts definitely of the greatest from the past decade. Can't wait for Innerspeaker.
I LOOOOVE seeing you enjoy and interact with your dad with this album. It’s truly a special thing - this coming from one of Tame Impala’s biggest fans from Perth ❤️😄
one of my favorite albums, ever. EASILY!
Seeing Apocalypse Dreams performed live was one of the most ecstatic experiences of my life. And I had never heard the song before that moment
I saw it live and I agree. One of my favorite songs of all time.

lovely vid! such a killer album. yall should give Melody’s Echo Chamber a go. made her self titled album alongside kevin parker, around the same time as lonerism, sounds magic
Yeah man and I think that's Melody's voice you can hear on Nothing that has happened... If I remember right?
@@mattsea2459 that’s right
This album's great, so many tracks from here have been my personal favorites since the very first time I listened to it, music to walk home by and mind mischief are my all-time jams.
Elephant was especially incredible to see live. So much energy
Finally! Please don't take several months to do Innerspeaker lol
I love all the albums honestly.
Also, please do listen to Tame Impala 2008 album, also a gem
Thanks a lot from TI fans for these videos
