Man, on his debut album, the song "?" makes me tear up near the end. I've read a lot about Dumile. Having his brother die, label dropping their group, becoming homeless and all to return to get revenge as MF DOOM. What a creative and proactive way to go about it. But sadly he dealt with depression and alcoholism.
What's fucked up is nobody seems to know the real reason his brother died. Many claimed he was actually running away at the time then got hit by a car when crossing. But some say that's bs. That they got to him. And whatever it was, it was best left alone.
Also no snitching was a bigger deal back then. So it would've never been made public even if dealt with afterwards. But I have a feeling he had to move on and leave that shit behind, which killed him inside.
Dumile was then not allowed back into the US a few years ago which made him stay in his home country, the UK. He lived in London until he passed, iirc.
Definitely read about him and watch the different videos fans have put together. Little documentaries and such. Gives you an idea as to what was happening. You'll have to dig through the internet to find more details and possible things that happened to Sub Roc.

I think a major reason DOOM never really feels like he's gone unlike someone like Mac is that in Mac's songs you can feel it's him Mac the person so upon relistening it really hits you. Unlike DOOM who is not a person but more like an idea someone who exist only in the music, thus making it feel as if he's never felt because he exist only though the music. But sometimes in the music we meet Daniel Dumile, in songs like ?, Op Doomsday, and kan carne. Those songs all have a focus on Daniels brother, it's now Daniel rapping not the character of DOOM and in those moments we realize that he's gone similar to how you feel with Mac. Or at least that's how I think I works

But going back to my first love, Hip-Hop, it makes me appreciate the song in a whole other way. Yes we all hear a beat. But listen to an instrumental on its own. MF DOOM was beyond a generational talent. Dude fueled so many underground artists' careers it's not even funny at this point. The Special Herbs comps, Operation Doomsday, MM Food, and all the collabs he did hold up forever.

I come back to DOOM’s stuff all the time. This is probably the 4th or 5th time I’ve seen this video of yall covering MM FOOD. You’re right, it really doesn’t seem like he’s gone. And I really think it’s because he’s created this entire world with DOOM, geedorah, VV, and other countless characters. Every time you listen to his stuff, you get teleported back to this world full of creativity.
It’s cheesy, but it feels like he’s still alive in his music because it’s a different reality where he’s still a supervillain prowling the streets in comic books.
    RIP THE ILLEST 🗿

Most of the "skits" you can find in this album are part of a video you can find on youtube called " spiderman vs dr doom 1981 canon of doom " .
DOOM mixed and matched clips and sounds to make it sound like his own story but he got so much out of this 20 minutes video its insanely impressive. I think i watched it like 10 times already 😂

Hey Connor and Kevin… just had a to say about Kevin not being able to connect with One Beer… “ there’s only one beer left” and “ how there only one beer left the pack come in six”… idk if you missed those lines or misinterpreted them… also Connor, I do feel like MF DOOM has a special level of immortality that other artists will never really get to. Mac Miller is still a devastating loss to me, I get sad when I listen to Swimming or Circles, and while I enjoy both records, i feel like we will forever miss the music he never got to make. With Doom, I never feel that pain. It’s just straight enjoyment. Maybe it’s because DOOMS life had more fulfillment that come across is his music, his story is certainly one filled with tragic events from the deaths of his brother and son, to music industry excommunication in the origins of the alter ego’s, he seemed to operate without bitterness even though he was hip hops supervillain, expressing distaste for the industry with jest. Also, we will never know what is going to come out, I believe MadLib has some MF DOOM stuff to be released in his vault. Also MadLib said on hot 97 with Sway, I believe it’s that show, with Talib Kweli and his son, that he has been in touch with Mac Millers family and has permission to release a new Mac Miller album that he is producing. You should look out for that. I usually don’t comment but I really like you guys, this podcast is great, but I do feel Kevin missed the mark on the one beer comment and maybe Connor missed that he missed it, and it bothered me a bit. Peace fellas, keep up the good work!
