  • TLC's Sister Wives cast member Kody Brown has hinted a few times that he is a consumer of manosphere content. From his assertion that he wants to run his relationships as a patriarch, to his concern about his wives taking "his money," every point has been riddled with manosphere catch phrases and talking points.

    I was married to a man who became violent across time. It started with yelling, then breaking things, and eventually violence. My biggest challenge was mentally accepting that the person I thought was my husband was also an abuser, so I agree, that reassessing a partner across time and holding out the mental idea that people do change will help accept the reality of the situation. Kody has mentioned on camera a couple of times wanting to hit someone or break things. He's also screamed at the women, flailed his arms and towered over them. Many of us who have survived abuse, see the signs of abuse in Kody's behavior.
    Kody's big problem is Robyn. She has $1.6M in real estate in her name and she's entitled to half his assets. If she leaves, he is SOL. I've heard he is out there looking for another wife. I would not be surprised if Kody courts someone, marries, and somewhere along the way, up and moves to force a sale of the assets in AZ to get them out of Robyn's name. Frankly, he's going to have to repay Janelle and Meri for their money in the love nest and Coyote Pass, in any event. I think Kody is going to end up with a young, goofy wife and poor.

    • @truthhurts3709
      @truthhurts3709 Год назад +21

      Yes, abuse doesn't start as a beating that lands you in the hospital. They slowly take it farther and farther until you don't recognize your partner or self anymore. James is right, evaluate and re-evaluate your partner , keep your eyes open. Some people become better but some become worse.

      @@truthhurts3709 exactly. They wear you down until abuse is normalized and they convince you you're the reason they're abusive. If you just did this or act that way, they wouldn't have to "correct" you. Then comes the apologies and promises to change until the next time you do something to trigger them. It's a suffocating cycle that is far more difficult to break free of than many can understand.

      This is a real thing that happens in abusive polyamory. About 5 years ago I was in a poly relationship with a man with NPD and another woman. He convinced me all the problems were her and everything was her fault. I used my own finances to help her move away because I thought it would help save my relationship with that person, and that me and the guy could just easily find another girlfriend who was more compatible with us. Nope. Once I was the only woman left, the abuse all got turned on me. I missed the other girlfriend immediately because it is literally like a switch flips and a guy who has never abused you for years can suddenly make you his punching bag when you’re the only woman around.

He said on one of his videos (when Kody was having the tantrum while building a fire and Janell got up to leave) that he doesn't like Kody's behavior but he doesn't agree wiyh people calling it abusive. I was slightly fuming because if damn near every person especially women felt anxious and triggered watching it, how in the world can you possibly justify that as nonabusive? He yelling, banging on stuff, leaning into their personal space and just down right being a butthead and he's been getting worse. I didn't like how they all just sat there like they were used to it behind the scenes. You never hear about abuser just started being violent out of the blue...there is always an earlier, disruptive behavior that progresses to beating arse. People are frustrated for the ladies not leaving sooner. It's easy to judge from a third party seat. I've never been in an abusive relationship but he made me super uncomfortable just watching him. This is what Kody and Robyn are doing instinctively, neglecting that the truth is out there in this case - filmed with their consent over more than a decade. Ex (mainstream) Mormon here! You are BANG on. Fundamentalist and mainstream mormons both believe and are taught that the man is the head of the family, has special "powers" that are inherent to men called the Priesthood Power where they are even healers, and women do not hold that power. We also find out when getting married (in the temple) that the husband/man has a direct line to God, and the wife/woman does not except through her husband only. So we are LITERALLY not connected to God without a man. Women are second class to men in Kodys world.

    I love to hear your point of view on this show. Your breakdowns are very insightful. I didn't know about the whole 'Manoshere' thing, but that makes perfect sense now that I've heard your explanation. It also bugs me SO much when he calls the host "baby". It makes me crazy! I'm so glad you called that out.

    Excellent explanation of the manosphere. It’s a toxic hellhole, from what I understand. Women need to be aware of the community, in order to protect themselves.
    There should be mandatory courses in high school, or something, to educate & reach females prior to their coming in contact with these fools, so they might avoid them!

    You nailed it James. I’ve read that some polygamist call us non-polygamists “swine” and believe they are superior (we swine will never understand the spiritual superiority they possess) and that makes it easy for them to take resources they’re not entitled to (welfare, food stamps, bankruptcy fraud). If he did dehumanize non-polygamist, an easy stepping stone to dehumanizing his wives (and most.sadly his children too).

    I would have loved to be in the room while you did research on the manosphere n how many times did you yell at the screen! On a serious note thank you for going into detail on why this group mentality is dangerous. History has proven over and over again when we start to group people as lesser than the outcome is always horrendous. I also believe Kody's changes in behavior has tell tale signs of steroid or growth hormone abuse. The combination of B.P.D, inflated ego, his church, not being held accountable,etc.. is rapidly becoming a very dangerous situation.

      Yes I have been saying he has changed very much in the last few seasons. Look at his eyes, mouth, facial expressions, his tensing arms flying temper tantrums with idiotic screaming. When you see scenes from earlier seasons, he is milder a little more fun. Now, would not want to be anywhere alone, when he might hit the trigger.

Mr. James is the Dad/ Big Brother/ guy friend every person needs in their life. His discernment is priceless, and when he speaks, shares a video I like that when it’s over I walk away thinking about something he’s said and how it applies to my reality, love you Mr. James 😊❤

    Along with this theory, it makes sense that Cody would be more oppressive to Janelle and Christine as THOSE women have the majority of his biological kids and might have more legal claim to his money. Or at least he might see it that way. Most of those kids are grown, but I know how terrified these guys can be about child support. Maybe he fears they will get him on back support 👀🫠

    • @catseye1009
      @catseye1009 Год назад +1

      Back child support would be some awesome karma. Money for the many years these women have basically raised the children alone. They have carried the burden IMO.
      These people should have never put their lives on for national consumption. I guess their notoriety has shown how flawed this way of life is. Even one who has an open marriage has a better chance at a strong marriage than polygamous families IMO.

    It seems like kody just doesn't understand feelings. It seems like his relationships are about what he can get out of them. It seems he is not capable of seeing that the women in his lives have emotional needs. When christine expressed her needs, he labeled it as "game playing", or "bad". The way he speaks i wonder if he is capable of a love. A relationship to him seems purely transactional.

    Wow! Best explanation ever. You put it together perfectly. What I've noticed about his changing personality and when I feel it started and escalated was before covid, but covid definitely perpetrated it. I don't want to get political, but you can tell he doesn't like laws or those who make laws because they don't allow him to do as he pleases. But, it was when he was presenting his one big house idea to everyone. He had a PowerPoint presentation with the plans on them, and then, off to the side almost out of camera range, he had a motto written out, and he read it. He only read it once on that episode, and it never came up again. It said, "Where we go one, we go all." That told me everything I needed to know to explain his changed behavior and his cynical attitude. You hit the nail on the head that it is going to escalate. He's in a very dark place and he likes it. He keeps making comments about wanting to take his anger further. He's enjoying it. That's scary. I really will stop watching this show if the producers don't start curbing his abuse and disrespect to his kids. His wives are taking steps necessary to break away, but I would like to see those kids get counciling. Their hearts have been broken, especially the boys. It's incredible to see him do or say things in an almost subliminal way meant to hurt his kids. Even Robyn knew that when the girls were at their house for Xmas, he wanted her to come and sit by him to show them that if your mother showed me respect like Robyn, I would be loving to her and we could all be together. She even said, "I didn't want to throw it in their face." Yeah, she knew exactly what he was doing. Just like her telling her kids constantly that the other kids and mothers don't want to have a relationship with them. Grooming their perception. Really makes me angry to see selfish people do things to their kids that you can forsee it messing them up, maybe forever. I hate cruel behavior.

    The husband is supposed to guide the family to God and faith. Kody lost his connection with God and faith, so the family fell away. Earlier seasons, they would have church services in their home. We haven't seen that in years from him. Kody needs to fix his connection with God before he seeks out a new partner.

    Kevin Logan has a playlist profiling the characters of the manosphere. He´s fantastic at exposing all of them. Brilliant work! Also, when Kody said ¨Where we go one we go all¨ bothered me alot. That is the Q-Anon catchphrase/slogan. He 100% has bought into that. No one would say that exact phrase unless they were into that conspiracy. And, if he´s into it, there´s no way he´s vaxxed or believed anything the CDC or government said about Covid.
