Thank you for this helped a lot. I’ll definitely get the 50mm lense now but I might need another lense that’s wider and has stabilisation. Should I pair this 50mm lense with the kit lense 24-50mm ?
That’s definitely an option, just note that it won’t be as bright as the 50mm prime. If those are the only two lenses, you’re planning on getting for a while, that would be a good choice for the price. I don’t have the kit lens so I can’t vouch on how it performs.
@@johnmorrisproductions that’s ok. So the only downside is that it won’t be as bright? Because I’ll use the 50mm prime for photos then the kit lense for videos.
Could you please explain why RAW from the BM looks better in a controlled environment? I always thought that if you shoot in the studio without a need of high dynamic range, where you control the light and then youtube compression kills everything, then shooting in RAW doesn't have any sense. Thank you
Sure! The reasons for shooting are: B-Raw gives me 12 bit color, it gives me more flexibility for editing, it allows me to record 6K, and B-Raw is much more efficient that ProRes 422 HQ. It still is overkill, 6K Raw is not necessary for RUclips. But it looks so good! Especially before I upload. I know RUclips compression destroys it, and at the end of the day I’m only uploading H.264. I should probably look at switching to another codec, each video is around 100GB. That is taking up immense amount of space, because I never delete footage. Probably worth exploring in a video at some point. Thanks for the comment!
Hi! Thank you for the video, it was a nice insight. I currently have a 2000D and I'm thinking of making the jump to the R8+RF50mm 1.8 once I've saved enough money. As you said, AF isn't the fastest with that lens, but is still pretty fast, isn't it? It's one of the main reasons why I'm interested in switching bodies, finally having a really good AF. Also, you can use the battery grip for the RP (if I remember correctly) to get more use time out of it (uses the same battery as the 2000D, so in my case I could use it easily from the get go!). You can't charge it while using the camera? So you can't use an external charger while recording or taking pictures? That's gonna be rough... Thank you for the videos man, keep up the great content, here we are to support you!
Thank you! I don’t know about the grip situation. AF is very good especially on Canon’s L glass. As far as the 50mm lens goes it’s been a great experience.
HELP! I'm going for a new system (no lenses kept from previous systems). Im looking at the R8, the X-T4 (or X-T5) and the Sony a7 III, and maye the A7R IIIa. I just dont know whats the best system-bang-for-the-buck, inkcluding the market of used lenses, how the cameras is to work with etc. Ive never owned a Canon, but i have had the a7 II which felt really, relly old and slow (and from, what ive understood, the a7 III's screen is from). Ive also had the X-20 from Fujifilm with a cpl of lenses. Since then Ive been in m43-land, with quite bad dynamics (i have had a cpl of m43 cameras), I just miss that "feeling" that larger sensors give. So - what would you get, and which "first lens" to these system?
Can you kindly check out if the canon rp battery grip would suit the canon r8 based on the comments here and if it does could you leave your affiliate link. Thanks in advance.

@@johnmorrisproductions yes, you have A4 , normal paper Equivalent A2 paper dimensions in pixels at 300 DPI and 72 DPI respectively are: 4961 pixels x 7016 pixels (print resolution)

Yes there is, I have the R7 and it warps at the edges. This only is a problem with wide lenses, up to 35/50mm. If you have any further questions, let me know!
@@johnmorrisproductions damn that is pretty much the focal length i stay in, up to 50mm. Hmm..is there any workaround for this or this is just accepted in the canon eos r community with it being normal
Just to be clear, it’s worse at wider angles, but it’s not terrible at around 35 and it’s gone at 50. As far as the solution, either you can buy a body without it, or disable it, or not worry about it. Personally, I don’t care about it as much so I just leave it on and deal with it. And remember this only applies to video, with photos it isn’t an issue at all.

My immediate reaction will probably be the the Sony or R8, but I will do some more research and get back to you.

I haven’t tested that yet, but you should be able to use an external recorder. It can output a 4K clean feed through the HDMI port.
