G’day Josh, Sounded like the def pump was running dry. Check the breather on your def tank. I bought a TYM 494 based on your recommendation. Its a good machine but......I also have to go 2hrs for service. The closest dealer is rinky dink with about 3 new tractors on his lot and wont service my tractor because I didn't buy it from him.
20:00 That temperature light can be a big issue as well. If when it comes, it goes away without doing regeneration cycle, make sure to STOP the vehicle as soon as it comes again and KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING! Sometimes it starts the regeneration cycle and completes it. Run the manual regeneration cycle multiple times one after another. It can take over an hour to get to temperature and complete the cycle.
You'll probably hear another RUclipsr had the same issue. The seeds are getting in your radiator. The back radiator that you can't see you can see your front radiator completely packed with seeds that you were mowing. Watch country view acres last video upload. I see the same material. He was removing off radiator that's on yours of course I imagine you fixed it. I saw you blow it, but there's another radiator that is behind the first one.
Diesel engines are pretty much a no go nowadays with all the emission regs. Overly complicated and prone to problems... I think you will start seeing more and more gasoline powered heavy duty trucks and maybe even tractors.
You said you were getting an exhaust temp warning, I would think it is running Lean ( not enough air) Check all the dirt in the front and a dirty air filter.
I bought a New Holland Workmaster 60 in 2016. That was the first year they had a computer. I had some problems with one of which was going into limp mode. I could turn it off and when restarted it would be fine for awhile. I also had some other problems with warning lights. The dealer ended up having to do a software update twice. Since then I have had no issues.
I'm a 3rd generation farmer. My dad still hates having any equipment run by electronics. If it doesn't have a rod or physical linkage, he doesn't trust it. He sure does like the new tractor with A/C and heat, though!
I worked for my town few years ago, we bought a new Case 580 backhoe. That thing was down in the shop almost 1 a month. Almost always DEF issue. This was central Maine so we had to contend with freezing. It was brutal. Imagine the total loss of working hours across the nation because of the exhaust systems?
Either your DPF filter is clogged up and needs to be cleaned or your DEF pump went out and needs to be cleaned ,my truck did the same thing and the pump had to be changed
Sorry to hear about you woes with the TYM tractor Josh. Hope you get it figured out on another note, I noticed your dog and the cat were buddies in the background in the beginning of the video when they were out on the rocks take care.
Hey Josh thank you for the video and I'm sorry to hear about your tractor and now that makes me think to myself because I'm in the market to get a electric bike now I have to do a little more research on it before I buy it to find out what happens if this happens to it to woo
10:00 The smell is, because the tractor is cleaning the filter. This is also most likely how FULL your FILTER is, not how full your ADBLUE tank is. 11:00 It have all the correct lights for running the DPF regen cycle. Attempt at least another REGEN CYCLE if the first one fails. 12:44 because your filter is completely clogged, one cycle may not be able to even start regeneration let alone complete it properly Here is the kicker. As I posted in my other posts the DPF regen cycle running have conditions. one of them is speed higher than 30 KPH which you will never do on the farm. It should be disabled on tractors, but the manufacturer not always have complete control over the software. Here in the UK, if you go into the DEEP SETTINGS of London Buses the software of some of them is Chinese. You can be sure the engineers don't know Chinese
Wish I caught this when it happened. Never waste your time trying to fix a D rate. Can't be done. Happens all the time in trucking. I've waited hours for tow trucks lol
My experience with those tractors with the government crap on them when lights came on had to take it to the dealer cost money. I just sold them tractors just got sick of them. So frustrating. And my tractors was John Deere’s. Hate that government crap they have no place on a tractor.
deutz tractor is what I'm getting next year with out def or regen. Can try and plow out all your air filters. Had a tractor go down with filter a dirty air filter
Agree... "Sick of New"!!! Three years back I traded off the 2016 RAM 6.7 Cummins for a little bit older 2009 Chevy 2500 6.0 Gasser, not the same pulling power but less headaches and my wallet is happier too. Then when I bought my first diesel tractor in 2021, I only went up to a JD 3039R so I didn't have to deal with DEF. Still have a DPF and and some sensors, but not near as bad. I learned the hard way with the RAM, being my first diesel and living in the northern climate that the new emissions systems weren't designed for those of us anywhere it freezes in the winter! Had well over $10k in repairs on the RAM before I 'tapped out'. "Live and Learn" they say... so I went back to as simple as I could and still maintain something 'semi nice'.
With the Chevron rule overturned, Im surprised some shops haven't gotten together and filed a suit for emission systems destroying Diesel Engines. Theres tons of proof.
Usually if the system goes in to limp mode you have to get a laptop to clear it out. I was a diesel mechanic had a friend that worked at a dealership loaded all the engine system so I could do work on the road
Been there buddy with my little truck had issues with the def pump and then an injector for the def. I'd look for a good ol allis chalmers 7000 or bigger those old tractors are tanks. We've got two a 7010 and a 7045 great running machines.
My bet would be the Def sensor. A mechanic told me that there is pretty much only one company that makes the sensors, and they're all junk. Our Vermeer plow at work has had the Def sensor replaced 3 times in the last 5 years. All 3 of our International bucket trucks had the sensors replaced at least once since new, and they're only a couple years old. Def is just not reliable, plain, and simple.
Hello Josh , here is some tip that may help you out in the future with emissions on these new machines and how to avoid issues 1 Only use high quality DEF fluid PEAK BLUE or PEAK BLUE PLATINUM DEF fluid, Walmart and other branded fluids do not have the quality control standards that peak has 2 when you put DEF in your machine use up the entire jug of DEF do not keep partial jugs to use later , once the seal is broken on the jug the DEF will begin to crystallize and that will cause codes on your machine 3 keep DEF out of direct sunlight and keep it a air conditioning environment when storing extra jugs of DEF , the sunlight will effect the quality of the DEF and cause codes for poor DEF quality on your machine 4 as you stated in the video these emissions systems are not designed to idle , what I do with my machine is if I am going to have it idling for more than 5 mins I will set the throttle to around 1500 rpm to keep the scr system hot enough to work 5 DEF only has a shelf life of around 12 months so if you don’t use up much DEF in a years time I would drain the tank and refill with fresh DEF just to avoid any potential DEF quality codes I hope you read this and it helps anyone that comes across this comment
Was going to buy a new Kubota M6 but didn’t want to deal with the def system. I have a Kubota m9540 that is pre- emissions but want another tractor. Going to buy a Kubota M110 that is pre-emissions.
Maybe try blowing the dust off the air breather and check your filters, maybe disconnecting the battery let set for couple minutes. my newest car 22 years old.
It's not just t y m. Many tractor manufacturers are having the same issues. It's almost impossible to find a good quality piece of equipment no matter what brand you get. Your tractor is too new to be having any type of problems
Def need to go hot as hell, it gunks up the filter and injector otherwise, the regen burns of the captured particles, runing hard prolongs the time between regens
Equipment with def and dpf like to be ran all the time and constantly burn off the exhaust. Sitting is the one thing that will kill them. A guy near me had 7 brand new bobcat skid steers parked in a barn all with less than 5 hours. After sitting for 2 years the def crystalized and all 7 have to go to dealer to have the def system redone. Emissions equipment is a absolute headache
I had an opportunity to work with my dad for almost a decade and I treasure that time now that he's gone. suck the marrow of life out of this time with him.
You also had another light come on with the red scr light after you got it to go into regen, it was the light in the book above the scr light telling you to take it to the dealer. It said it was a low urea level below 25%.
The dpf filter requires heat to burn the soot that it traps. The cat needs to burn hot to work correctly. The DEF fluid turns the nitrogen dioxide into water, oxygen and N2. Diesel vehicles that spend all their time in the city get the same problem! Yes emissions systems are complex and problematic but clean air even in the countryside is necessary. Problem is that the complexity means home fixes are out of the question…. Best of luck Josh, hope they fix it quickly…
Hey Josh! You should look up Lovol, their 1104 or 1204 could very easily replace the TYM T1104. Should be as cheap or cheaper, but all mechanical and from what I know, no DEF. Comes with A/C and everything else thats nice to have on warm summer days or cold winder nights.
Given the codes and symptoms, they know what to do. Most dealerships have a mobile service and that might be a wash with transporting it and it might turn it around so you don't lose it for a month.
It's all about what you want to have to troubleshoot. Even the older tractors have issues that can be a pain to deal with. I'm surprised the dealer tech won't come out to you for that.
We have tons of def issues with our Volvo construction equipment. Most of what we have been told by Volvo is the machines aren’t running hard enough to burn off what needs to be. Have to limit idle and low rpm hrs and run the machine and regens are a pain in the rear but necessary.
I do not work in a tractor shop, I work in a truck shop, there are multiple temperature sensors in the DPF scr system one of those could be bad. The def doser injector could be bad, the pump sounds like it's working on a truck when you turn the key off it sucks the DEF fluid back into the tank. I do not know on tractors how long before you have to have the DPF filter cleaned on a truck it is around 300,000 miles. And yes they probably only make it for dealers to see the codes that are shown!
You most likely have a clogged Catalytic filter and sometimes they have to replace or have yours rebuilt. On my class 8 truck they have to repair them after about 500K miles, if you drive mostly city driving it happens sooner. Some like your small tractor use a regen by pumping a butt load of fuel downstream of the turbo, the big guy uses DEF to to regen. You should let everything cool down after a regen. One truck I had would respond after a regen because everything was so hot , the comp, the starter, the wiring harness. so hot you couldn't touch it. Wait 30-45 mins with the hood open and it would start up and be fine. Maybe you can get into the habit of blowing out the rad. and screen after mowing just to clean things up, it couldn't hurt. A small leaf blower works well.
That's why I bought an older Mahindra 4025 mechanical tractor. Not to say they don't have their own problems but they are usually repairable by the average home mechanic.
I'm no mechanic and I've only had a tractor with a DPF for 9 months but my guess is the DPF is clogged. I'm not sure if it's ok to run multiple manual back-to-back regens and/or if that would unclog a DPF. I'm curious to hear what the dealer finds and what the fix is. Good luck! PS...I was hesitant to buy a tier 4 tractor. So far, so good with around 105 hrs. (regened at 40 and 80 hrs so far). I hope i dont regret buying a tractor with the emmisions crap on it!
It's been quite a few years since my son quit being a tractor mechanic at a local dealership. But here in the central valley of California it's dairy country. And dairymen need their tractors to feed their cattle multiple times a day. They get extremely mad when their tractors won't run due to the Def system. My son said there was talk to get rid of the Def systems years ago.
Josh one of the better things about RUclips Someone had or is having the same problem. You probably transported your tractor but maybe the next problem this can help. Put them cows in there let them mow it down. You have that portable electric fence, just MOOOOOOOOOve them!🤣
Traded in my newer tier 4 tractor for a 2012 jd 5075m for this exact reason. Didn’t want to deal with this garbage when I have stuff to plant. And I like being able to roal coal whenever the hell I want.
DPF Filter is metal box filled with exotic metals sponge that have large surface area designed to catch diesel exhaust particles. Once it have enough particles trapped it saturates with ADBLUE and heats up to 600-700 degrees CELSIUS and burns all the sooth. The sooth can burn, because the exotic metals and ADBLUE make unique chemistry bond (magic) permitting the burning of the trapped particles. Doing manual regen like you did is what the filter is designed to do. Sometimes sensors fail, but in general is a reliable system. When it's doing DPF regen (Diesel Particle Filter) just let it run it and don't shut down the engine. This way you can ensure it completes a complete cycle and eliminate the chance of malfunction. I personally like the system, but I understand that it can cause major problems to anyone's work plans.
This is my concern. Haven't bought a tractor yet, but leaning towards an older 2014 MX5100 instead of a newer MX6000. It doesn't have DEF, but has DPF and I still don't want that for the simple reason it's another thing to go wrong. EDIT: I forgot to mention I heard that DEF breaks down after a while. With the fact you haven't used a lot I wonder if that maybe your case. I read it could cause deposits in the SCR system.
Jh Diesel & PFI speed was doing stuff like that and got fined huge by EPA. JH was around 50k. Need to restrict or do away with EPA BS rules. Chevron Deferance ruling said they can't t make rules anymore.
@@keithfrazier2558 JH Diesel was working on vehicles that were street legal. Diesel Brothers was one of the first to get smacked. I believe they paid in excess of a $1M in fines. Now that Chevron was over turned by the Supreme Court, unless Congress addresses the law, the EPA will have no say, as un-elected bureaucrats will have no say. If I heard Josh correctly, he's only filled the DEF tank twice. I'd expect that a 3 year old tractor with 260+ hours to have consumed more than 2 tanks of DEF.
@@gungadinn I know Chevron Deference has been overturned, but in the decision if you read the whole thing, says it would exclude "The Clean Air Act". Now to what extent, idk. Don't see it being worth the risk of deleting the emission system to get fined & fight in court. Much cheaper to buy an older tractor without it. As far as the amount of DEF he uses depends how much he uses the tractor. I know he cuts grass and drags manure. It would depend on hours and what work being done. Plowing fields and mowing takes up more RPM then a fence drag.
Not easily done with engines that are controlled by a computer (ECU). Some TYM models are "old-school", and don't need an ECU. They don't have a DEF system, only EGR. And that can be removed, but would void your warranty.
I am with you on the garbage! All of the new stuff is designed to fail! It is designed to last along as the warranty if it makes it that long! Please keep us posted on your tractor and let us know what they find.
Regen Regen Regen run it hot or it won’t run at all. what I’ve experienced is sometimes the particular filter might be not getting hot enough to burn off the particles due the particles clogging up. Trying to rest the computer by disconnecting the battery might not clear. The dealer would have to rest EPA regulate codes.
You absolutely should be running the ac while doing a regen if you suspect it's too clogged. Maybe even put cardboard over the radiator. Get it super hot so it can burn out the soot more effectively.
Collecting the caps is a good idea, not just for reuse. Once you have too many of one type, do NOT throw them away! They are made of HDPE, one of the more valuable and easy to recycle plastics. Here in Germany some NGOs run collections like in "100 caps pay for 1 polio vaccination in africa!"
DEF crystalizes in heat and cold temperatures. If you look at the fuel and DEF delivery systems at truck stops, the DEF is delivered from a temperature controlled pump on the island. They sell hundreds of gallons of DEF a day. Remove the pump from the tank and inspect for slime and crystals. Clean or replace the filter and re-install. If I heard you correctly, you've only consumed 2 tanks of DEF in the 3 years you've operated the tractor? I'd expect the tractor to do a regeneration at a minimum of once every 25 hours of operation.
Armed forces are exempt from Adblue for a reason and so is Australia and New Zealand. I would say if it’s taking 3 years for 300 hours it’s gone out of date Adblue has a short shelf life and the containers should not be stored in sunlight like you often see in fuel stations.
It sounds like the same problem I had with my Honda crv . The DPF wouldn't clear. After a lot of wrenching and swearing, I was told my head gasket was failing. And the engine wasn't getting hot enough for a regen. I didn't have the ad blue liquid either. Get your engine tested for the head gasket. Hope you sort it out.
Try being 300 miles from the nearest dealer service and you get the dreaded 145 miles until limp mode. I don't ble the government so much as the manufacturers who could have not made it so you can’t service your own equipment. They're making a bundle off this "government mandate".
yep...the reason Al has a TYM is me my friend...they are great friends of mine! I suggested to TYM that they get up with Lumnah Acres...such good people!
Try using Amsoil diesel fuel additive. I've seen some guys use it in their tractors and trucks and it helps a lot. It raises the cetane of the fuel which burns better with less soot and cleans injector tips for a proper spray pattern. True story I bought a bottle of Amsoil diesel additive gave a few drops to my cousins 1980's Massey Furgeson tractor and HOLY did it work wonders. Before the tractor was spewing black smoke and was straining to move bucket full of dirt. After ten minutes of a few drops in the fuel tank smoke went away and the tractor carried a full bucket of dirt of a steep hill in third gear which my cousin claimed it had never done it before. My cousin ordered a bottle for himself and uses it in all his diesel equipment.

( not enough air) Check all the dirt in the front and a dirty air filter.
You going to have to put it on the deere if you still have it.
12:44 because your filter is completely clogged, one cycle may not be able to even start regeneration let alone complete it properly
Here is the kicker.
Get some fuel additives that help burn out the DPF. Also remove and clean the def injector they gum up all the time
From my experience with adblue its either the injector or a clogged filter in bottom of the tank that give most issues.
Hello Josh , here is some tip that may help you out in the future with emissions on these new machines and how to avoid issues
1 Only use high quality DEF fluid PEAK BLUE or PEAK BLUE PLATINUM DEF fluid, Walmart and other branded fluids do not have the quality control standards that peak has
2 when you put DEF in your machine use up the entire jug of DEF do not keep partial jugs to use later , once the seal is broken on the jug the DEF will begin to crystallize and that will cause codes on your machine
3 keep DEF out of direct sunlight and keep it a air conditioning environment when storing extra jugs of DEF , the sunlight will effect the quality of the DEF and cause codes for poor DEF quality on your machine
4 as you stated in the video these emissions systems are not designed to idle , what I do with my machine is if I am going to have it idling for more than 5 mins I will set the throttle to around 1500 rpm to keep the scr system hot enough to work
5 DEF only has a shelf life of around 12 months so if you don’t use up much DEF in a years time I would drain the tank and refill with fresh DEF just to avoid any potential DEF quality codes
I hope you read this and it helps anyone that comes across this comment
I see where people crap on Mahindra a lot, but 75 hp and under are no def/no regine. I haven't had any issues with mine so far.
Josh, look at the TYM 754/RK74. Neither of these have Re-Gen or DEF fluid on them and are 75 hp.
Def can go bad try to buy at a busy truck stop pump when possible. I would take that container and refill as needed
You also had another light come on with the red scr light after you got it to go into regen, it was the light in the book above the scr light telling you to take it to the dealer. It said it was a low urea level below 25%.
keep watching...it was full
as a truck driver with the same BS.. it sounds as if your DEF pump has quit on you.. i have had this happen on my semi..
I only use DEF from truck stops. Hardly have any issues.
Hey Josh!
You should look up Lovol, their 1104 or 1204 could very easily replace the TYM T1104.
Should be as cheap or cheaper, but all mechanical and from what I know, no DEF. Comes with A/C and everything else thats nice to have on warm summer days or cold winder nights.
Remap the ECU and get all the DEF parts deleted.
Given the codes and symptoms, they know what to do. Most dealerships have a mobile service and that might be a wash with transporting it and it might turn it around so you don't lose it for a month.
oh believe me I asked about mobile service
Sadly, you have to buy two tractors .
“Two is one, and one is none.”
Try taking the def pump out and clean the sensor
It's been quite a few years since my son quit being a tractor mechanic at a local dealership. But here in the central valley of California it's dairy country. And dairymen need their tractors to feed their cattle multiple times a day. They get extremely mad when their tractors won't run due to the Def system. My son said there was talk to get rid of the Def systems years ago.
Looks like your DEF went bad. I have a Kubota M5-111 and the book says to change the DEF fluid every 4 months if not used. DEF will crystalize
The dealer should be able to test the def fluid I have seen poor quality def fluid cause the same problem with class 8 trucks
Might be time to delete the DEF.
Shhhhh!!!!
Jh Diesel & PFI speed was doing stuff like that and got fined huge by EPA. JH was around 50k. Need to restrict or do away with EPA BS rules. Chevron Deferance ruling said they can't t make rules anymore.
@@keithfrazier2558
JH Diesel was working on vehicles that were street legal.
Probably the def header. I’ve had this problem with my tractors.
I am with you on the garbage! All of the new stuff is designed to fail! It is designed to last along as the warranty if it makes it that long! Please keep us posted on your tractor and let us know what they find.
I had a combine go into limp mode because of DEF. Dealership had to come out and replace a filter in DEF system.
I remember that DEF. solo trucker 9mo. I had to have dispatch talk me through and exhaust burn out or something. Cascadia tractor.
SCR is Selective Catalyst Reactor. Where DEF does its thing.
My guess could be a faulty sensor. I had problems with sensors on the exhaust sensor. It was a ongoing problem on my 1965 Pontiac.
Diesel engines need to be driven a lot just to keep the build up burnt off. Filter gets clogged up. Drive it like you stole it
Hell yeah ganster
I would say if it’s taking 3 years for 300 hours it’s gone out of date Adblue has a short shelf life and the containers should not be stored in sunlight like you often see in fuel stations.
yeah...isn't that something!! Because they are unreliable!!!
If you find out what took to fix it please let us know please. It’s a pain what DEF has done to service diesels now days.
Take the DPF filter out and power wash it put it back in
The tractor should still be under warranty!! Just have the dealer come out to fix it on site
Honda CRV diesel?
Try being 300 miles from the nearest dealer service and you get the dreaded 145 miles until limp mode. I don't ble the government so much as the manufacturers who could have not made it so you can’t service your own equipment. They're making a bundle off this "government mandate".
Lumna Acres has a TYM like yours & has never had this issue! We excrete Urea in our urine too.
yep...the reason Al has a TYM is me my friend...they are great friends of mine! I suggested to TYM that they get up with Lumnah Acres...such good people!
Call your dealership and they should be able to take your thoughts right to the problem.
Josh, check any fuses on board. I have a good hunch it's that. Call the Service Center before you take it to them.
I got the same crap with my 2023 new holland and 24 Chevy cab and chassis stays at the dealership… I’m gonna build somethin a man can work on again and get away from this new junk.. I gotta ford 5000 that’ll be around for my grandkids to farm on, when the new plastic one is at the landfill.
