When greasing your machine, take off your attachment, that way you dont have to work around it while finding the grease zircs, makes it much easier.
That rock picker is a game changer for sure.
Hey Josh at least you have a shop and tools nearby to fix most of it. We fix problems on our equipment and usually find new problems and we laugh and put it on the list. We bring down tools for what we need that day. I really need to set up a tool box in our container

Everything takes some time to learn, Im sure there is a sweet spot for the arm to swing the rocks in but you wont find it without work.....That thing looks awesome. Nice video.

Excellent attachment will save your back no end... On the sticky grease point.. if you have a hydraulic hand pump with pressure guage make up an adapter to fit the grease point and pump some hydraulic oil through it.. it will move the hard grease no problem.. iv been using it for many a year to deal with that exact problem and works at lease 80% of the time and saves a load of time to.. Excellent advice!! We do the same if we have a clogged zerk. We have a small 110V portable hydraulic pump that we use for our Porta-Power cylinders and we made a fitting to deal with any clogged grease point. Works great and saves a lot of time.
It also helps to use a fire wrench and heat up the zerk/joint along with the grease gun pumping at the same time. Don't use this method if there are any type of seals or internal wipers though.
All of our grease guns now have the quick connects on the end. They are a major time saver and we waste a LOT less grease, especially the grease points that have a zerk but your vision is blocked or hard to see while pumping.
We bought the brand name quick connect for the first one or two. After that I bought some generic units off of Ebay and so far they work just as well. Josh needs one for sure, Lol.
Now that’s a back saver! Great addition to the farm.

Josh I'd say you have a real winner there. Harvesting rocks is one of those thankless jobs but is one crop that you will likely never run out of. This is going to save a LOT of labor on the farm. It's not called the "Stoney Ridge Farm" for nothing. Stay safe brother and God Bless.
One day you'll be filling a hopper to feed a crusher/screen. For dirt, base and gravel. Also gabion fences to permanetly use the stone as retaining walls, fence lines, great purchase. Hugh labor and back saver.

I grease the bucket pivots at least every 8 hrs of work. The dirt starts to get in the pins and bushings otherwise. I got smart later on and reassembled the bucket pivots with large o-rings which has done a great job of keeping the dirt out and the grease in
I used to work for a landscaper who had what's known as a Rock Hound.
Lock N Lube will change your grease game. Great video.
And to think of all the tons of sandstone Dad and I dug and picked up where the shelves came out in the fields. This machine would make a lot of sand out of that stuff. Nice tool!

Get yourself the lock n lube coupler. Best $30 ever spent. Also a extention hose. You can be in the loader and run the gun.

The rock picker is really intended to be used on tilled fields. It will pick up tons of rocks, leaving the soil behind.
well...it's dong a great job here too....they make some rock pickers that are specifically designed for crop fields...I'd say this one is pretty universal

Great attachment. Watching it operate it seems like something that would be used after the rocks are pushed up in a pile with dirt already. Learning curve for sure. Happy Memorial Day Josh. Stay safe !

you think buying a $3500 implement makes me rich? Look at the money spent on large farms ...$500k combines and a $100k fertilizer bill. I'm most certainly not rich, I just live below my means and it's helped me accomplish what I want in life
Save up for things and buy them doesn't make one a rich person.
I feel your pain, my farm is on bedrock so there is a never ending supply of machine breakers

I think the energy and ambition for all the projects and thinking for himself is inspiring .. Yes Josh has his opinions and he does research and comes up with plans... and as the years come and go he will be wiser and wiser and have more fun doing what he loves... We should celebrate this experience and enjoy his sharing of it... I was raised on an 8 section ranch in Wyoming ... thats 8 square miles... and not for one minute would I disparage Josh for what he has and what he has done... wonderful to follow... such a guy
A simple suggestion… try raking with the teeth pointed down to gather up small piles, then sweep them into the bucket with that rotating arm. Might save some time.

I feel your pain with random oops and breaking tools. Sometimes it's bad luck and timing but most times it's usually my fault.
Use a York rake to get most of the rocks into a line and then use the picker?
Still find it much simpler and way more fun than city life. Least there you fix your problems and not others. You know? The good life!

That Dewalt grease gun is the best power tool I've ever bought. The amount of time I have saved using that thing has been incredible.

Ha ha - that's a lotta "Ringing the Bell" raking in the rocks....I wonder if the flow to the raker is a little high/fast and jams it that quickly. like you don't have time to adjust the deck to prevent it from jamming. Just a thought. ----Grease fitting project...YUP same stuff happens to me frequently doing stump grinding and land clearing....only way to keep things from breaking is don't use them and even then sometimes stuff breaks just sitting there..s🤣😆🤣😆 the other day my PTO shaft rusted and wouldn't slide...Had to go to "Tractor time with Mike" and get ideas on how to un-stick it..and wa la - he had a video that saved me buncha time wrestling it!

You should look into the lock n lube Grease gun fitting. You can get them at napa or online of course. It makes greasing a little less of a chore in my opinion

Did you think about using it more like a screed/screener? Scoop everything up, at ground elevation, like a regular bucket, and shake it out. Use the rock flipper more as a clearing device in assisting the shaking out. I may be wrong but good or bad I would try this.

Lock n Lube makes a pressure relief valve for the grease gun to solve that problem.

If you will pressure up the grease gun on that grease zerk, leave the grease gun attached and work the implement at that point it will loosenup and accept grease eventually. You might have to pressurize the grease gun several times
that's kinda what I was trying to do, I've bought a tool from Lock-n-lube that's supposed to bust loose grease fittings like this...we'll see how it works!

We have rock walls in Kansas. To clear the fields. The walls were a certain height and width. The gov. paid money per foot. WAY TO EARN MONEY. HARD TIMES.
Probably a grease fitting clogged up unclog your fit and so it'll take Grease
Do you have a dump trailer? It would save a great deal of time if used in conjunction with unloading that bucket. Best wishes.

way back in the day that's the real reason farmers had lots of kids they where called rock pickers that there and a stone boat pulled behind a horse or tractor. Or they ran a orphanage summer camps for wayward kids. Sometime it,s great to remember the past no not really

Not to get political, but reminds me of a comment our Governor said about Ranchers in our area, 'It's mostly cows and Rocks that are in that Red area!" My coworker told me about it ways back I looked it up, sure he did. Be careful hanging out under the raised arm of a skid steer Josh. Woooo!!!!!!!

I do not have no skid steer that you can crawl out under a up un locked boom arms that is why I use safer Deer or New Holland machines where you can lock the boom up from inside the cab way better tech
I am 72 now and I remember back in the day when Milwaukee was the king of the tool pile. They also had NO plastic on them. Now all of the tools are so mass produced in China and damn near ALL plastic, take you pick who makes the best. I will say one thing, when it comes too circular saws, You can't run fast enough to give me a Milwaukee. My choice of power tools, Makita.

Gunk in the grease hole in the pin. The bushing should still be fine. They make a tool that you put penetrating oil into hook up to the grease fitting and hit the end with a hammer and it shoots the gunk out of the grease passage.
This looks like a faster version of a rock bucket geared towards a compact track loader. Honest question though, would this be more efficient compared to the version for a compact/subcompact tractor loader?
